Blackberry connect - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Hi dude's,
My questions is quit simple.
I have gsm from my work. Thats great, no cost in mobile calling...
But, i dont have acces to a datanetwork (it is not supported by my abbo.)
Now some employees have a blackberry. I can try to get a BB to. But then i want to put that abbo/simcard into my Fuze...
But does that work?
1 Do i have dataconnection on my HTC then? So can i then use opera/google maps/ youtube then?
2 Does BBC works on my HTC, like synchronise mail and calendar.
3 if 2 is yes, where can i get the right BBC version for my energy rom 1.6.x
All this because i cant get away with it (on my workt) just to say that i only needed the datanetwork...

If you're going to ge taking the SIM out of the BB and replacing it in your Fuze, then you will have no problems at all with a data connection. Assuming you have AT&T, then this is the only difference (I picked a customer service rep's brain):
AT&T needs to know that your phone is a BB so that it can get e-mail.
AT&T only needs to know your Fuze is a smartphone so they can charge you a huge amount of money...
BB connect & Data plans are the same $$$
To sum it up: When you place the SIM in you Fuze, AT&T will still think you are using a BB, but don't worry. You won't be limiting your features. You would only limit features on a BB by not having BB connect. It doesn't work the other way around
Hope this helps

Oke, thx for the quick reply.
But i wonder, i do have the dataconnection then. But can i also recive emails from my work then? And sync my work-agenda over the air? Or is that one of the BB features you mentioned?
And is that where BBC comes in?

Blackberry ROM upgrade and problems with Activesync

I've upgraded to the latest ROM version and tried to get set up with blackberry, but I can't as I'm on a o2 online tariff unless I change to a normal o2 tariff. I'm in discussions about this at the moment, but that is not the problem as such.
The problem is that because I've installed the BB ROM version but not activated it, when I sync to my PC I get all the options (email, contacts, etc, etc) but NOT the CALENDAR! The option is now greyed out as it expects you to use BB to sync the calendar! I only noticed the problem of not syncing the calendar last night when I created a new appointment on my PC but it didn't copy to my PDA. Everything else works fine.
I've tried both 3.8 and 3.7.1 activesync and soft reset the PDA loads of times to no avail. If you also have the problem there isn't much more you can do without reverting the ROM.
I've spoken to o2 the support and they were only made aware of the bug this morning and expect to have a new ROM in the next few weeks and are advising people in the same boat to wait rather than trying to downgrade to the previous ROM version
The old Online Thing
Well I took the online thing to the top and they are now moving me to a normal Tarriff adn giving me 3 months free blackberry, and they are now looking into why the Online Billing system wasn't updated to allow blackberry as an add on.
My trick was to look at mmO2.com take a list of the top names, then [email protected] and CC them / web care / data team / [email protected] Within in 3 hours I had a call from the Customer Care Exec and things where rolling.
Should be sorted by tomorrrow morning I hope, I wonder if they will be putting blackberry on the XDA EXEC? If they do I had a look in the O2 shop today and it does look shhwwwweeeettttt.

Cool - can you email me the details and I'll have a go at them as well. I'm a bit annoyed to say the least as I bought this instead of a blackberry as they said it would be enabled for blackberry shortly, they forgot to mention there would be a restriction on they tariff!
Once the upgrade is complete I will give you the Customer Exec Number and they will be able to help you.
Its taken best part of a day for the transfer waiting for the GPRS TO come online now so I'd rather wait till I ahve BB working fully
Also I noticed they took off the Inernet Mail PDF from the MY-XDA Website as well because of all of this.

Blackberry costs
Hi
Does anyone who was on a normal voice plan and has added blackberry know how much it costs to do so?
thanks
Dan
ps. the calendar synchronizes fine with exhange server (without blackberry)... so must be an issue with the local pc...
Ok I think I may have made a mistake by registering for www.o2email.co.uk and now I can't get my BES to work with the handset?
Any Ideas?
Cheers

Now had BB authorised after having to switch to a 'High St' tariff from an 'online tariff'.
The cost is a standing charge of £15 per month on top of my normal monthly tariff for a limited amount of data per month. If you go over you data amount, additional charges are made per Mb. Have to see what my monthly charges are going to be like when the bill arrives.
When you get BB authorised, you set up your email details via a web page - you can also put in filters to stop spam from being forwarded to your XDA although they will still go to your normal email client on your PC.
Now have the calendar sync'ing to my PC with BB enabled. There is a bug with the o2 ROM version which disables the calendar when you install the BB software (not when you flash this ROM version).
I was sent a work around while a new ROM is being written. The only problem is if you soft reset the XDA, you have to follow the work around to re-enable the calendar sync again.

AT&T 8925/Tilt will have Blackberry Connect

Credit Paul at Mocaco for finding this on the HTC America web site.

I've never used a Blackberry before. Is there an advantage to using this instead of the usual Windows Mobile methods for email? Would this allow me to have push email if my company doesn't have an exchange server?

At least the name, AT&T Tilt, is now 100% confirmed!!!
Gr8 to see that my next phone also supports Blackberry Connect. I am using it on my Wizard for some months and id rather not live without it.
Basically BBC has similar functionality as WM Push-email. BBC is of most use when your company has chosen for Blackberry instead of MS Exchange push technology.
Im wondering what the advantages of BBC 4 are as compared to the old version 2 (afaik there is no BBC version 3)
I'd be interested in hearing if people have an opinion of a BB server vs. Goodlink on this device. My company has both. Thanks

I am using GoodLink on my kaiser and it is HORRIBLE!! For the past few ROMs, GoodLink has all but crippled my device when i am composing or replying-to a message. It is real jerky when typing and sometimes the device briefly locks up.
I have been told that Version 5 of GoodLink works better on WM6 & this device but I can't get my hands on it because it has not been certified in our production environment. (The lab guys use Exchange Push and i am trying to get my mailbox moved there.)
I am about to pull down BB Connect and give it a go until I can get on the Exchange Push servers. The drawback to BB Connect is that only Mail & Calendar are sync'd wirelessly. Notes, Contacts, Tasks have to be sync'd manually though the BB Desktop Mgr.
im waititng for my kaiser. I have been a longtime user of Goodlink on Palm treos- i think Goodlink is significantly better than any other mail app out there. I contacted Good regarding support for WM6 and Kaiser. they said that Good 5 supports WM6 but the kaiser is not listed as a supported device (yet?).
After my experiences of Good on a WM Treo750 (disasterous) i will stick with the WM mail / contacts apps for now.
Q for the person who put good on his / her kaiser: did contacts searching etc still work properly?
BB4 syncs contacts tasks 7 notes
Hello I would be interesyed in hearing if the BB connect version from for the tilt works on the HTC branded kaiser.
I have headr that with blackberry connect 4 you can now sync email, calendar, contacts, and tasks wirelessly AND use the MDS service even for the pocket explorer, google maps, etc.
Since I couldn't get bbc to work on my universal, if this works on the kaiser I will give it a go... I certainly would drop my 8800 blackberry for the kaiser.
thanks
Vinny
I have now installed Good on the Kaiser and it worked perfectly. Exactly like on the Hermes. We are running v4.9.3.21_EN

One of the nices things about BB 4 is that now you can connect to the internet through the MDS service, without having to disconnect from the blackberry connection to go to your ISP connection. It also supports wireless activation as well as better security policies among other things.
Ha one of the lucky kaiser owners actually tested this? I would like to know if this will also work on the HTC branded Kaiser or just on the AT&T Tilt.
thanks!!

Can someone educate me on the difference between Blackberry Enterprise Service and Activesync? Why would one choose the BES over Activesync. I believe they both are push email services with syncing of calendar, contacts, and notes as well. What are the benefits or are they exactly the same except for personal preferences?
I have just installed it on the HTC TyTN II. I am using FIDO in Canada which uses BB Connect and it works very well.
Thanks,
my company uses Good and a BB server. I got BBC to install on the Tytn II but I switched back to Good within a few days. BBC on a Pocket PC is not great. It slows the device down terribly. Also Good synched much faster. The attachment handling is bad and very limiting. I think Good 5.0 due out this month should be even better. Just my 2 cents.
Thx a lot it works fine in T-Mob Hungary with Tytn II. saved my new tool you did!
Hello I've installed the BB Connect software and got a pin, I also get connection to the network and a IP Address, but whenever I try to activate i get errors, if I do it via USB I get a success message but my BBC destop says PIN unknown, the I tried to do a wireless activation ang got a an error saying that I should contact my administrator.
Can this have something to do with the Enterprise server? supposedly my company doesn't support BBC devices, is there a way they can know this is not a BB?
I'm in MExico using Telcel carrier.
Thanks!!
Works for me too
Tytn 2 (from orange uk - on orange uk) running bbconnect 4.0.84 against my works bes
used the desktop config tool once installed (unconnected to pc - see below) and all fine
*note
If you install bbconnect when attached to your pc it hangs and doesn't install properly so you have to remove / reinstall
Installed BB Connect yesterday on an AT&T Tilt. Account is on the company BES server. Working well so far.

This sounds like the problem I had. It's related to the policies on your company's BES. I found the solution in the RIM knowledgebase:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/sear...Public&dialogID=31123659&stateId=0 0 31125133
Unfortunately, it requires action by a BES admin. I hope you can sweet talk an admin into doing it.
Wifi?
Can any of you using this confirm if it works or not via wifi?? Can you sync with the bes or bis with out a data connection only using wifi???
Thanks.
Jeff
so bb connect includes bb messenger? i cant find it, maybe im not seeing it correctly..
There is no blackberry messenger client in blackberry connect at this time.

Academic Question: Work Email & Tilt

Here is my situation: I have a Tilt & a Work Blackberry.
My company won't allow me to push my work email the Tilt so I'm forced to carry both... I want to get rid of the Blackberry.
What, in the community's opinion is the best way to do that? I'd be making an end run around security, so this is academic in nature. XPressMail? Just auto-forward my mail? Something else?
Just looking for inputs, thank you!
Do you have Exchange at work?
Is webmail enabled?
If so, just try to point the tilt to the same URL, and it will probably work.

The tilt is capable running BlackBerry Connect so that you can connect to BES servers and get your push email on. You should check into that and chuck that BB to the side.
BlackBerry Connect
Use BlackBerry Connect on the Tilt and change your BlackBerry PIN to the the Tilt BlackBerry PIN. I think there are threads on xda addressing this.
yes, there are threads showing you that BBC will work on the Tilt.
I am in the exact same situation. I tried BBC, but it burns thru battery on my Kaiser, way too quickly, even if throttled only to Edge. It also made my Kaiser much slower
So, I use Seven push email software's beta version. I have a long post on one of the BBC threads explaining Seven's benefits. I love it. It does require me to have my work PC connected to the network at all times though. But it works quite well. Its much more stable than Cingular's XpressMail is (Xpress Mail is using the old Seven software). And it doesn't use SMS triggers. It's true push.
Search for "Blackberry Connect" and "Seven" on this forum for the threads in question.
Can you forward your email from your outlook on your desk to a pop mail account your tilt checks every 15 minutes?

That's a guaranteed smackdown from IT if discovered at most companies. Many of us are stuck with Blackberry for this reason.
(Or in my case, None since my company will not permit personally owned Blackberry devices.)

I guess I can't just add the BB part just for the email to my att tilt. The only thing that stinks witht he Blackberry connect is, you can't use some of the cingular video when using it. It is nice thou. Is there any special settings or anything when you installed it? With Duttys release? By the way, where did you get the 16GB SDHC card!! I want one :-D Brand?

I'm not sure how the plan works from AT&T as I use the BB connect with Tmobile.
About the SDHC card, it's not micro but regular SD(HC) and for my Universal and I believe I got it from newegg.
Has this version fixed the annoying problem 4.0.0.92 has of waking a sleeping device upon receiving an email?
To use the software on AT&T you have to switch to the blackberry data plan or else the traffic will be dropped.
Note: They'll drop your SMS plan off when they sign you up for the blackberry data plan (for some stupid reason, they think if you have blackberry you don't text anymore?). You'll have to make sure to add some type of messaging back onto your line or you won't even receive any messages. (at least i never got them until i put messaging back on mine)

That's not a default setting there...
but some reps will screw it up...
I just added MediaNet Unlimited and 1500 messages/month to my plan.. Checked the next day, I had... No data plan, 1500 messages.... i called them up.. they removed my messaging package, but still didnt give me data
Luckily I'm a dealer, so just went in and added the crap myself, but kinda funny how I asked for 2 things and they didn't give me either after 2 phone calls...
Then again, Maybe they hate me for having a Tilt on MediaNet... Though that IS all the internet i use on the tilt anyway, so they can suck it up ;-)

I am on 4.0.0.97 and I have this issue. I get a lot of emails and when the device wakes up with the screen on full ... I know my battery wears down a lot because of bb traffic. I'd really like the device's screen to say asleep when I get email, my device's battery life would double or triple.

I haven't touched any settings and when the emails come in, if the device is on sleep mode, it doesn't wake the device up. Have you played around with your settings to see if that helps?
I was using the 4.0.0.97 until Shogunmark posted this one.
maybe it's a ROM issue, which setting? I have mine set to make sound ...
Dumb question do i need to change the aku for this version if im using WM 6.1 like i did for the .97 version?

I haven't had to change the AKU on the latest ROMs, including the Diamond hybrids, when using this .100 build.
For a while, the .97 didn't have to change the AKUs either, so I believe they add support for higher revisions in each release.
Yep,

bb connect not working

hi,
i downloaded bb connect from sony ericssons xperia page (usa). it installs fine but cant get it to stay connect through gprs (says suspended by user) and when i press the register button, nothing happens.
does anyone know why this is?
is it because gprs is not a good enough connection?

you have to be set up on a blackberry tarrif to get it to work......also check your not supports this programme as i got changed 2 weeks ago for it only to be told by their tech support that the network doesn't support it. thanks, im with o2 uk. thats why its not working because they must be blocking it as i dont have a blackberry contract. about he unlimited web, they can exclude it as if u link your phone to a pc and use it as a modem they can recognize that so probably the same with bb connect, as the blackberry contracts are a lot more expensive (even though u get the same or less).
