I flashed the cannon 2.0 rom, it worked fine for 2-3 days, and then the loud speaker stopped working... I can still hear people during calls but there are no sounds... the phone doesn't ring, no notifications, no music/youtube/etc... I don't really know what to do or how to fix it... I flashed king's 1.9 rom, and still the same... I didn't drop my phone or anything, so I don't think there is any physical/water damage to the phone... I'm gonna try an older rom... but can anyone help me?
Do a nandroid, then wipe everything and reboot. If that doesn't fix it, then its probably a hardware issue. Although flashing a different rom wouldn't hurt.
I would try re-flashing the latest radio. That should sort things out.
ah radio... didn't think about that... will give that a try
flashed to the newest radio... doesn't work...
Try calling HTC and see if they will send you a replacement, or this. If you want I can post a link to a really detailed guide on taking your phone apart/putitng it back together, but I don't feel like searching lol.
Did you try a different rom to see if that works?
Don't forget to wipe.
If a radio reflash and a different ROM didn't fix anything your speaker is probably screwed. They're not hard to replace though (as long as you don't mind voiding your warranty).
Speakers are pretty temperamental though, it could start working again after a few days. It could even just be a loose connection.
thanks guys... I flashed 3 roms, flashed newest radio, reformatted the card, wiped everything, no luck... does anyone know how long the warranty is for the G1? tomorrow I will try to re-root the phone and 'start over'... but I doubt that'll help... anyways might just try to get the new speaker installed...

You can carefully peel off the "void" sticker on one of the screws and then replace it afterwards if you're worried about voiding your warranty (you didn't hear that from me! )
I doubt re-rooting will help as it doesn't seem to be a software issue, especially if your headset/in-call speaker works, but it can't hurt trying!
You could try removing the speaker and cleaning the connectors in case a bit of dirt has found its way in and is blocking the connection.

Had this issue after installing a screen protector (one of the liquid attach ones), All I did to fix was push in and pull out a headphone 10-15 times, and it cleared, think something arced across the detection terminals.
Thanks for the reply no luck will keep trying... next step do it send it back? will they fix it?
can the connection terminal short? how for down is it?
Have you checked to see if it was software prob?
hard reset? flash stock ROM? you would have to do this before sending it back anyway...
Well after 2 weeks of plugging my headphones its still dead.
Last 2 days starting to come alive again. trick is to pull the headphones out when its off, sometimes comes back, but hoping it will corrected itself, or maybe rain sweat got into it and needs to dry.
Just reporting here in case anyone in the future hits this wall and doesnt want to send it bck.
doesnt look like a perminant fault yet...
sounds back for now, back to flashing.... L26 v9.0 coming and kwbr V2 and and Dutty 2.1 ahhh which one ... which one!
I go skiing tomorrw so i need to try and get this problem fixed asap. I recently installed PDAcorner V19 and i adore the rom to bits. The only problem is randomly the sound will cut off. Calls are silent, txt messages/calls dont ring and adjusting the sound has no effect. It takes a soft reset in order to cure it, then after a few hours it goes back to being silent. I originally did a hard reset but it didnt seem to have any effect on it. I am on T-mobile, in the UK using radio 17.09.19.
Does anyone have any idea what could bec causing this? I pm'd the creater of this ROM but havnt heard back yet and i am really hoping to get it fixed before i go abroad. Does anyone have any advice?
thanks guys
(i have searched & googled as much as i can, but didnt find anything of use)
edit; excuse the typo in the subject, if i mod could adjust it id be gratefull!
You can try to flash a different radio to see if that helps or a different rom. I have that rom and do not think that anyone else is have those sorts of problems.
I had the same problem a while back and tried several different roms and radios. Nothing worked. I think it has to do with Voice Command and or bluetooth. Then all of a sudden it went away. Here is the thread discussing it, to see if it sounds like your problem.

thanks for your help Denco, ill have a look through and see if it helps!
Oh dear. After finally deciding to do a wipe and installing Cyanogen's newest version, my earpiece speaker broke.
Eg. when calling I can't hear the other party, unless I put the phone in speaker mode.
I'm by now pretty convinced this must be a hardware issue, since reverting back to an earlier version using Bart won't work nor does wiping.
So I took the whole damn thing apart as per the HTC technicians manual, but when I finally got to the speaker there was nothing to be seen. No water damage (it had been in a snowy bag so I assumed that might be the cause), everything was in place, the little golden springs and the middle thingy were making the connection etc.
So, what to do next? Is there some place I can buy a new speaker and install it? Or am I stuck with using a headset forever. Or are there any other options I can try?
Afaik I can't turn it in for warranty since I bought this phone of someone else who got it with her T-mobile plan. Also the warranty is 'void' now
I wouldn't write it off just yet:
1. Wipe, wipe, wipe, everything, your sd, phone batt stats, rotation settings.
2. Re-flash correct radio.
3. Reflash stable rom
Did it fix it? If not: Ebay is your friend, search for a G1 speacker.
Can't find one for a decent price?
Craig's list is even better: I recently saw someone selling bricked G1 with cracked screen for less then $40. Do you want to bet that the speaker was fine in it and you could've buy for even less?
Good luck.
I have the same problem...
hi xda
my p990 finds only one radio station even when im outside
i tried to hard reset it but the problem is still there.
should i return the phone for repair/warranty? somebody have the same problem or solution?
i have stock 2.2.2 carrier locked from "drei" GB update not yet available
thanks
I think it is a hardware problem, since since using radio is quite straight forward. And you're using stock rom, so nothing is being messed around.
ok thanks will try it
does someone know how long it could take for the repair/warranty?
Is it the local (ie: strongest) radio station that you can pick up? If so, that would indicate a faulty connection between the radio and the earphone jack (which is used as the aerial). It could be a dry solder-joint on the circuit board.
When you say "finds" - Is this the auto-scan? What about manual tuning?

manually its the same. only the one local station which is about 2kilometers away from me.
i emailed lg support about that and they say i should take it back to the store they will send it in, probably a software fault
hope they repair it as there are 2 bumps on the silver plastic but nothing else. can they say its your fault and send it back unrepaired?
edit: strange... phone restartet itself, i input the pin and it restarts again -.-
Stock Froyo (for me, at least) was bit odd - I had several reboots in the first 3 hours of having it, they were cured by putting on other ROMS (CM7, BlazingDragon and my current, KANG).
Definitely sounds like the radio has a problem if it's not hearing anything further away. Hopefully they'll take it back and do a warranty repair - The back cover is easily replaced so I doubt that'll be an issue.
So, fist time post.
Anyway, a friend of mine gave me his Flex the other day. He was upset because he couldn't get the sound/audio to work and no one could hear him on his end, showing his mic wasn't working (first time this has happened). After tinkering around for a bit (cleaning over and over), trying everything I could, even downgrading it from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 to see if it was a software problem. Still nothing. Yet, when a headset or just normal headphones are plugged in everything works fine.
So, after all of that we took it in and they said it wasn't a hardware problem, but they couldn't find a solution and they couldn't replace the handset with his warranty already expired. So, I was hoping there was someone here who could help me. I was thinking maybe if there was a software problem I didn't catch if installing a custom rom on it would help. I was hoping to hopefully get some insight before going to that.
Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section, still new here.
There are no "custom" per say ROMs besides the cm11 one Playfulgod and I have posted in the dev section. If you're on 4.2.2 download Playfulgod's cm11. But it doesn't stay booted and there is no data. Download mine ,which is only Playfulgod's cm that I've modified to boot with 4.4, and the is no sound but it has data and stable boot. I don't suggest either one as your fix though. If you flash the stock 4.2.2 or the stock 4.4.2 software to it and there still is no sound except through the headphone jack then I can't imagine it not being a hardware issue. I mean it pretty much has to be a hardware issue.
And besides the kats at these stores selling you the phones or answering your questions, stereotypically no smarter about the devices than any other 20 year old that has googled and memorized the specs of the phones. They know specs and sales pitches. Other wise they have to revert to the computer and go through a series of elimination questions to diagnose your issue. Ive even had to show one rep how to use lg PC suite to flash his g2 back to stock. And that's the standard issue software that we all have.
My best guess on your issue is the device could have been dropped or damaged in some way that has loosened or broken a connection or part inside rendering the speaker useless. But that's my opinion.
Well I don't think it's been dropped. At least he said he didn't drop it. After pulling it apart I made sure everything was in the right place and nothing was shorted out or disconnected. So I'll probably send it into a repair shop to see if they can do anything with it. Though a headset would probably just be the better way to go, it's just an inconvenience.

Absolutely. I would hate to have to through in my ear buds every time I had to answer a call
Well after installing Master Volume Control, I have been able to test that the speaker does in fact work. But no sounds of any kind aside from voice call, work, the normal beep you get when using the volume rockers. This is starting to drive me crazy.
might have solution
Just received my refurbished flex phone, realized no sound from speaker. Popped the back off a couple times, suddenly I hear sound! The cable over the battery when lifted and remove the crease caused by shape of battery removed, speaker now works! I hope this helps you. Best of luck.
