One quick question… if i root and install the 2.1 ROM will i still be able to update the firmware regularly through the phone’s update firmware feature under settings/about phone/system updates/firmware update?
Nope.
If you want to go to official 2.1 when its released, you'll have to go back to your stock 1.5, and then update in the settings>about>...etc. menu..
FYI. When the official update is released, the exploit used to gain root will most likely be patched, and you'll be stuck on that firmware until somebody finds another exploit.
Keyboard lags?
I'm an idiot and can't tell the difference between reply to post and new topic.

okay, TOTALLY the wrong thread radxcoresteven. if you need help, post that in the pancake 2.1 thread, please.
and secondly, please please STOP posting these threads that are titled "please help!", "i need help", "HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!", "OMG WHAT HAPPENED". they provide no information at all. for your issue, why not make the thread title "does using 'update firmware' work on rooted 2.1 roms?". it makes much more sense.
and no, the update firmware option won't work on the rooted roms. like it was said before, you'll probably have to go back to 1.5. or use an official RUU.

If you go with official releases you can forget using any root apps.. I use adfree, autokiller, drocap, etc. Upgrade now and then you can upgrade to a pre-rooted version of 2.1 from XDA Devs when the final release 2.1 comes out...that is if Sprint ever wraps up their final release.
I feel like an idiot..I thought it hit new topic..lol
Sorry.

this is why ill wait until the final comes out and we get a rooted / custom rom made of it.
Your answer...
Type
2.1 official upgrade into the search bar in the top right corner of this page, under the search tab...
Read a little bit, and there you have it...
You people answering these questions are just feeding an endless chain, look at how many "IF I CAN UPDATE TO 2.1" threads there are....
Ignore them, and force people to stop being lazy.. And then the threads die away...
Well thank you all for your help. i have rooted and installed 2.1 but plan on going back to 1.5 when the actual update comes out.

Hey I figured this is a new topic now that it seems like we solved the rooting problem per se.
If I root 2.1 using the directions in the 2.1 root guide successfully; can I then install the 1.56 RUU official, root that using 1.5 root methods, then install one of these badass custom 2.1 roms by our fellow devs here? Or can I still only sit on top of 2.1? I won't to go back LOL

You can install ANY rom you like after you are rooted. Doesn't matter really.
Also, this type of stuff should be posted in Q&A for future reference.

Hey i am asking these questions on beahalf of fellow rooters
1)By rooting the phone, we are still using Stock rom except that we have SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS already, is that true?
2)To unroot our phone, run RUU roms:
RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.exe
or...
RUU_Legend_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.31.707.2_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_121965_signed.exe
depending on ur location, asia or other countries.
3)Before i rooted my phone, my firmware is 1.31.707.3
but the RUU rom as stated above is "..WWE_1.31.707.2_Ra.."
is it the same? if not, how do i get my default rom back?
4)After i have rooted my HTC legend, there would be a Stock OTA update by HTC to Android 2.2 froyo. Will the OTA update still take place, or do i have to unroot the phone first?
5)Is there a way to backup my current stock rom: 1.31.707.3 ? if yes, how?
Thank You
Knnhzx

well on those i can answer now:
No1: if u use the stock ruu rom u will NOT have superuser permissions, however there is an "Almost stock" Rom based on this RUU that i currently run and it's really smooth and fast and i have alot more RAM free however i have a problem with facebook contacts so my contact pictures wont sync and i can't link fb contacts to my google contacts. (But i can't really say it is because of the rom or if it is fb that has made some changes)
No4: when u use the "almost stock" Rom the OTA updates are disabled, if they are disabled on the non-root RUU i can't really say, but i don't think they are disabled on that one
Ok thank you for answers
If I understand well, If I want use app2sd I must use a rooted stock ROM, I can not use the HTC stock ROM.
I will search more informations about future OTA update from HTC (in particulary Froyo update) and may be I will try root for my legend.
Regards
BTW, any new information on the release date for Froyo from HTC w/Sense?

not any official news, HTC said "in the beginning of Q3"
many speculations have been posted regarding what they mean but many people say that it will come in september or october.. we can't do anything but wait for info from HTC or for the update itself.
Ok thanks. I'm very happy with the Legend, so no rush updating it to Froyo.
Sorry, noob here. I googled how to root my Captivate. I found the wiki, which points to the thread in the dev forum here. However, the download link gives 404 and the thread is closed. Help!
Also, would appreciate pointers to info on:
- the best way to back up my phone before installing SRE,
- how to tell which firmware I have.

The thread was closed by OP request. Keep an eye out for his new thread and updated rom. as far as the info goes I would read the stickies in the Development forum. I can answer the firmware info. Go into settings...about phone and it will tell you at the bottom.

Best way to backup is titanium backup- pay the $4 donation to obtain a license! You can perform a "batch" (one button) backup/re-installation with the full version.
I try to keep my phone pretty basic as I'm tinkering with it.. makes it so much quicker to get back up and running!
I still have and am currently using the 1.3.1c update if you'd like me to send it to you

Thanks for the info everyone. I have had my Captivate for two months now and decided it is time to root it. SRE looks like it has most of what I want to do with it bundled in. Bad timing I guess, but I can wait a few more days.

*#1234# from the phone will show you the firmware versions.
I updated the Wiki to reflect all this info as well.
If you still have this version i would love a copy. Tried Cognition and had bugs - 1.2.2 was perfect and from what i understand 1.3.1 was very good too.
I have 1.3.1c on my harddrive (along with 8GB of Android related stuff), if you really want it.
If you still have SRE 1.3.1 on your HD I would love to have it. I still have use of Eclair and this rooter sounds the best.

wow! this is an old thread. if you are gonna root and mod the phone why not upgrade to 2.2? i understand wanting to stay stock but why 2.1 stock with an antiquated mod that is not likely available because noone has requested it in 6 months or more. there are kernels with color fix and voodoo sound and roms galore? if you want a good stock style rom i would root and backup the apps and install andromeda. it still has a few samsung apps and a stock look but has all the features you could want.

Yeah, I hear ya. I wish I could be in a 2.2 ROM. I've gone through most of the popular ones, Darkys, Cognition, Serendipity, Dragon, Paragon, Andromedia.... My issue is that all 2.2 ROMs seem to cause tons of FCs and after a lot of troubleshooting and debugging have come to the conclusion that its due to something in the RAM that is being triggered by 2.2. That there is some sort of memory leak (which I figured I would have read about by know) or faulty hardware.
I originally thought it was the VooDoo lag-fix, but removed that and still have the FCs. I am fighting with AT&T/Samsung to get a replacement but since I got the Cappy the first week it was offered by AT&T (and therefore had months and months of usage before being able to get 2.2 on it, and the related FCs) there is an issue of warranty. I am pretty much refusing to pay any fees.
Soooo, until this is ironed out I still want my phone to partially make me happy so I was using UTC 0.2 and was wondering how SRE would work.
So basically I have a couple questions before flashing my phone to Serendipity 4.3
1. If I flash can I ever go back to "real stock"?
2. Since froyo is not out for the captivate. I was wondering if the 2.2 roms were real froyo roms? (Like the Serendipity 4.3)
3. Since froyo is coming out soon, should I just wait for the ATT version of froyo?
4. If I do flash, can I get the ATT version of froyo? (when it comes out)
Thanks for reading

As the rest have said, FLASH AWAY! Once you start, you'll see how addictive it really is. Try them all. They all have thier own pro's and con's
I sucessfully flashed my phone! I love my phone now, geezes I dont know why i waited sooooo long.
Thanks every1!
Probably going to flash a custom ROM (phoenix 4.1) for the first time this weekend. I currently have the AT&T 2.2 beta flashed from a one-click, but have never gone through the whole process. I have a couple questions.
1. Is the phoenix install instructions on the first page of the discussion in the development section complete? I was browsing through the discussion and some folks said there were some apps missing, like the music player (not that I used the stock one).
2. there are patches listed and it doesn't really say how to apply them. any guidance? rather than page through 700+ pages, is there a summary on how?
3. is there a lagfix in the Phoenix ROM or is it needed for 2.2.1 ROMs at all?

Each rom is done to the Dev's way so yes some remove some apps that they deem junk. Like all the att crapware that is installed. All the fixes are clockwork flashable that I know of. Most were for older versions of the rom. IF you follow the directions in the FAQ you will be fine, Just make sure then after you flash back to stock that you can get into recovery and DL mode with the 3 button combos just in case something goes wrong
cool thanks. looking forward to it.

There is a thread for the international version but what you need to do is get an apk that changes your "custom" status to "official" then you will be able check for updates. I do believe this thread will get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484
If you have deleted any apks then it may mess up any updates you take. Or go to sammobile and look for 4.4 firmware for your phone and use Kies to install.
The 9005 can receive it's latest update thru kies, or by going into the settings menu, tap general tab, and scroll down to about device, then system update.
I have only change the md5 file with kies not the rom....I wanted to make the phone rooted not to change the official rom...can I correct this problem with my updates without change the official rom from my phone??? Or is there any app to do that???

I see.
The other reply that I made with the link in it. Follow that link and install what it tells you to install.
After you install it you can make you phone show an "official" status which will allow you to check for updates.
I do not know where the guy in the YouTube video got his firmware.
There is firmware available for the SM-9005 at www.sammobile.com but they seem to be country and carrier specific, I do not know as I do not have that phone.
You may be better off getting instructions in this section of XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3?nocache=1&z=7992070960968063
Good luck and be careful not to brick your phone.

Sir I think you're looking for opinions on what to do and that's not what xda is here for. You're not even in the right sub forum for your device. We can talk forever about the pros and cons of custom roms over official releases. If you're worried one bit about knox counter, then do the official release. If you're comfortable with modifying your device and you can follow directions, I recommend you focus all your attention to this sub forum for your device here! The omegadroid link you attached can be found here on xda! I highly suggest you read through the 3000+ posts that users like you made. That might make up your mind for you.
