Older text messages - deleted or archived ?? :/ - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey,
I was backing up my text messages from my Diamond before I wipe it... and notice it hasn't kept all my messages.. I should have a lot more but the history only goes as far back as the 31st of March.
Using Windows Mobile 6.5, can't find anything on it about deleting/archiving older messages... what would have happened to them?
Any help appreciated.

@ above
Are your messages in threaded view or normal ? coz threaded ones causes problems while backing up... change it to normal view and things should work.

Thanks for the response,
I switched it to normal view and the messages still cut off at a certain point (this is on the mobile its self).
Seems they've been deleted? Like a month worth of texts vanished into thin air Would there be any way to retrieve them if so?

FINALLY ... an SMS threading program that works PERFECTLY!!

Description: Were you a Treo 650 user? Miss the old threaded "Chat Style" of the text messages? Well, you don't have to be sad any longer! With the SMS Threader application, you can now send and receive your text messages just like you used to! The program will even automatically open even if it's not running! All threads are automatically backed up as HTML files, for easy viewing on any machine!
PS - If the program does not function correctly after installation, your device may need a soft reset.
Thanks, i'will give it a try.
looks good, fonts is a bit small on the message text and can't see a way of making it larger
I have had a couple of crashes when trying to select the message thread with my stylus (which did not open it) and by then using the action button.
I have been after this app for ages so thanks for the post
Paul
great to see SMSs like IMs, its the application I never knew I needed.
Only prob is the character counter doesn't seem to count the characters, staying at "0/160" even when a message is typed.
Also, annoyingly when in a convo the "X"/"OK" button is not present, forcing you to click Options >> Close to exit the convo. Though there seems to be options to "close after response" etc so this might not be so annoying
PocketCM also does a similar thing and in my opinion has a great interface. A must have application IMHO (http://www.pocketcm.com/)
True, the way this is done in Pocketcm is really good. I used it for a while but the rest of the program isn't what i expected from a good contact manager.
I have been using shogunmark_wm6_threaded and it has been perfect so far.
How do these compare to IMSMS, which I find works very nicely -
@argoldst
palm threaded app working perfectly on kaiser? did u manage to make mms feature to work? which rom are you using? would be great to get this all working
After a nights use of the OP app I found it to be a little annoying, for the following reasons:
1. Constant notification alerts in the top bar, even when I have read the thread. This means your constantly "dismissing" an alert, just to see if the thread has been updated with a new SMS
2. The alerts didn't popup over my full screen app (TomTom) which was annoying as I had to minimise TomTom just to check if I had a SMS or not. Default notifications popup over full screen apps AFAIK.
3. All new message go into the thread, but not into the Default Messaging list, so attempts to bypass it are impossible.
Think I will try some of the other threaded SMS apps listed here.
Am I the only one only looking for a little program that automatically threads all my EXISTING SMS's?? Everybody talks about these SMS Threaders that only thread SMS's sent within that program.
CMContacts is better; it looks at my existing SMS database but I do not need another contacts app (FingerFriendlyFriends is THE BEST contact manager for my purposes...) on my Kaiser!
The best solution would be a sort of a threader-plugin on the existing messaging-application, but as far as I know that does not exist...
Just my 2cts!
Does it transfer the sms's already in your inbox to the threaded program? Or does it not? Does it replace your inbox as the Palm Messaging app, or does it only add a new app? Thx
I cant find "CMContacts" anywhere
Do you have a link to this "CMContacts" software?

the version i downloaded automatically sets your defeault SMS to the palm one, and it replaces my old inbox with the new palm one. Basically i installed it and it became my default SMS application automatically. Only downside to palm threaded app is that you cant use on-screen key boards very effectively, they all cover up the txt input box in a convo. message. Except when you write a new message.
and to Eddythepeddy: i believe it will thread all of your existing SMS...hmm could be wrong about this tho, for me it only threaded my sent messages

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, everything works perfectly including mms.
The only negative to it is that the txt will not thread until you reply. For examlpe, if you get in 4 sms from Jane but never replied, it will show up as 4 different sms. Once you reply, they will all fall into a single chat (threaded sms) and will stay like that. You ONLY have to reply once to get all future (and past) sms's to thread.

anything special you did to get mms to work correctly? I (and most people here) get a memory error when trying to send mms.
You can get all sms to thread regardless under options. There should be a setting to thread all messages.

Outlook ate my messages

Hi
I have a UK orange branded TyTN II, WM6.1. I've tried the wiki and searching for the forums, but can't see anyone else having had the same problem.
I sent a text earlier today and after a short delay it returned me to the threaded view of the conversation with that person, but all the previous messages were gone, no 'older' link to click to get back. I did a backup with PIMBackup, and turned off the threaded view, and the messages are still on the phone, but the threaded view has hidden them. New messages appear fine. They must be cached indexes or something somewhere that have gone screwy, but I have no idea how to force outlook to regenerate the conversation?
Cheers
Endolf

Threaded Messaging History

I keep running into this and wonder if any one else has the issue or knows how to fix it. By default the threaded messaging window only keeps the last twelve messages and then you can tap older for the next twelve older. At some point it will stop letting you go to the older messages, even when you know there are more to see. I would like to have more messages per page and have it go all the way to the beginning of the history or texting. I have looked myself and cant find where this is set. I also searched the forums and have not found any talk on this.
i have this problem too. and for some reason after a while, my threaded messaging just deletes all the history for that contact. even what i was able to see before...without me deleting any of the messages. it's really wierd
for me it doesnt delte older msgs it just wont show them in threaded mode
if you switch to non threaded they are there but i agree its annoying and random too
Is there any way to limit the number of threaded SMS messages that are displayed? For me, it takes a while to load the window when it's a contact with whom I've exchanged many messages.
I'd like the thread to show only the last 5 messages, or so...

WM6.1 SMS deleted automatically, without doing anything

Hi all,
I have Tilt and I am very fond of messaging.
I was having a conversation through SMS with a frnd and when i was replying to one of his SMSs, all of a sudden hung a lil bit and all the SMS of his has gone.
Then later i checked, some people and sites who are regular with their SMS (3-5 SMS in day), those SMS are also gone but not the complete thread is being deleted.
I am not able to understand the pattern.
Is it like that each thread can contain only a specific number of SMSs.
And earlier i thought this might be a problem with my handset or s/w, but today one of my frnd who uses HTC 3400, had the same prob.
Kindly help. I had more than 1000 SMS in it.
Softwares installed:
SPB Pocket mobile shell 3
kaiser tweak
google maps
web cam plus
Regards,
Abhishek
while you are looking for a solution, i suggest you backup all your text messages using "pim backup"...search for it on xda
this way, you will have a backup that you can restore in case the situation gets worse and your device starts "forgetting" even more text messages
Yes, i am encounter the same problem too, where my sms been deleted automatically after soft reset my phone. Why it can be happen? any way to solve this?

thanx buddy for the suggestion, but i believe ,anyones fate would not have fallen pathetically sick as mine. I had all the backups, but my hard disk also crashed.
anyways ..... still looking for a solution ... i believe theres a hidden bug in WM6.0 n 6.1
But it is hard to believe that no one till date has not escalated this issue.
Hope to find a resolution for it.
Cheers !!! (Hope if WM allowed us to)

SMS TXT Multiple Recipients

I have looked around but not had any luck. I am using the threaded txt messaging and last night randomly it was not adding multiple contacts correctly for a new txt message. Most of the time i could just type in everyone's name and it would put a ; between each name and now it is not. So you have to add it in manually. Just wondering if there is something i could do. Never had the problem before.
Thanks
Have you restarted the phone?
yeah i tried that...no luck
Is it a WM6.5 rom ? I didn't like those because they seemed to fall apart.
yeah athine's 6.5 lite
