Using cyanogen 5.0.3-6 and running Desire port before that, my contacts have that <sn>id:697626900/friendof:696095236</sn> thing in the 'notes' which is fine.
But when viewing contact information on the phone, it has many duplicates under the one name, and it seems to list the contact details from my google account twice. e.g.
call mobile:
call home:
email:
nickname: aaron
nickname: aaron
notes: <sn>id:697622960/friendof:696495536</sn>
notes: <sn>id:697622960/friendof:696495536</sn>
facebook profile
then when I tap EDIT
Google Contact - from [email protected]
name, number, details, etc
Google Contact - from [email protected]
name, number, details, etc (again)
facebook contact - from [email protected]
name, phone, email
so I'm curious why it has my gmail contact details twice?
One thing I did was import a backup contact list from SD card when testing cyan test builds without the google apps, and then when I installed google apps and synced maybe it added the backed up ones from SD card to the cloud, but everything looks normal on Gmail contacts page.
to make things worse once I fixed everything in gmail contacts, the phone synced all the bad contact details back and made even more duplicates >.<
The <SN> id in the contact notes are from Facebook contact sync. I wanna say that's the source of your problem.
Do this: delete all synced accounts (Facebook and Google) and contacts, then sign back into just your Google account and sync your contacts. If you have a problem even when there's no Facebook account present, your problem stems from somewhere else. But just try this first to ensure if it is or isn't Facebook.

the app need to look in the contacts and if a contact number appear more than once, pick them and give the option to remove all duplicate at once. thank you to all the dev, and keep up the great work.
and or merge, After using the facebook contact photo sync I had lots of dups, but some of the new duplicates had an email for example that the original didnt have so I would like them to merge
log into your gmail and manage contacts that way, you get the option to merge contacts... thats what i did, sort by alpha check all (2-3) of the same name and hit merge
Gmail contacts does a good job. You can delete or join contacts. Probably quicker than doing it on the phone.
also make it so you can delete all contacts at once cuz g1 isnt capable. i dont use gmail contacts because it always erases my currect contacts that werent added through gmail
u have to add the contacts via gmail.com, right? i could never get it to work, i turn all syncs off and when i check my email i just go into gmail and select refresh now
Why this gmail for all the things and always ???????????????????????
Is your N1 syncing your contact's profile photo with their facebook profile?
Mine don't sync. I have to go to edit contact and do it.
N1 does recognize and pair the contacts with facebook profiles..just doesn't sync pictures.
strange!!! I have no problems with this... sync merges Google contacts & Facebook contacts along with the Facebook profile pics... unless there is a Google contact pic...
I have it syncing on some, but not all.
I have found the ones with problems either
A) Don't have a complete name in my phonebook
B) Have a different number in facebook.
Hmm.. quite wierd.
I am seeing a trend...
I was using HTC Sense 2.5 on WM. And all the contact whose photos were synced with facebook by sense 2.5, do not sync with facebook in android. And for some reason, gmail contacts (web, browser version) shows these pictures in contacts, but android does not.
I just deleted a contact's photo in gmail..and android instantly synced it with facebook.
im having this problem tooo! just noticed it today. i cant figure out why it wont sync tho!!....
You can go for this, worx nice
AddressBooker & exporting my Facebook Phonebook:

I find that Facebook only syncs people with first & last name on your contacts list. It doesn't sync only first names. I wish there was a way around that.
That is annoying, even my old blackberry would sync to partial names, and that thing is primitive in comparison.
Noticed a couple of things:
Address book names and facebook contact names have to be the same.
If you have a photo linked to the contact (i.e you synced from another phone to google and pulled the contacts back down) then you often have to specify that the phone uses the facebook profile pic rather than the pic held directly against the contact.
It's a bit of a faff around, and if you delete the pics from the contacts on your gmail account (as someone mentioned above) it should default to the facebook pic assuming there is one for the contact.
<edit> Also ensure you have facebook setup to sync friends into contacts. Facebook app -> Menu -> Settings -> Sync Contacts </edit>

This helped me. Thanks.
I could not add a facebook account directly in "Accounts", but enabling sync in the FB app automatically added it to "Accounts".
i flashed ICSSGS RC4.2 ROM for facebook contact picture sync. Contacts from exchange synced fine with facebook contacts but are not showing facebook photo and i am not able to edit any of the contact. Keep on getting "not editable from this app" message.
yeah your phone cant edit facebook info.
create the contact on your phone, then join the phone contact with the facebook contact.
same as it has always been, even on stock.
not trying to update facebook info for contact. i was able to update exchange portion of contact information earlier in RC3.1 including display photo, name, etc. and it updated same on exchange server. But now i can't even update exchange portion. And facebook contact is linked but doesn't show the display picture for contact. Trying to avoid going to another app like haxsync.
seems like problem was with contacts synced by enhanced email app. I switched to normal email account and i am able to edit contacts. Still no photos are shown for facebook contacts, separate or joined. Anyone able to get facebook contact photos synced successfully ?
So not too long ago my contact photos for a specific contact has been disappearing for no reason. I link all my contacts with their Facebook profile and any other social networks that the phone picks up. All the contacts I have gets their photo but one.
But the problem isn't just getting that persons Facebook contact photos. It's their Google+ photos too. Their G+ photo doesn't even sync to my phone. So I'm left with the placeholder image for G+. If I manually go to link the contact with their other accounts, the contact image is the placeholder image for the specific account.
In hopes of fixing the problem, here are the list of things I've tried already:
Removed Facebook account and log in again (result is contact photo appears once linked, but any further modifications to the contact cause the problem)
Uninstalled updates to Facebook app and reinstalled the current beta version
Installed the current stable version of the app
Removed Google account and re-added
Removed contact from Google contacts and phone contacts, and created a new contact
Cleared cache and data from Facebook app
Cleared contacts storage cache (haven't cleared contact storage data, not sure if that will cause me to lose all my contacts)
If anyone has had this problem or has any ideas of a way to fix this, please tell me.
anyone ?
guys
I have maybe 10 contacts sync'd from my gmail but most are from exchange. When I go into contacts and try to edit one of the exchange contacts (have mailwise), it still says I can only save it into gmail. When I click on linked contact in the attached screenshot, it clearly says exchange
How do i fix this? I want to maintain all contacts in exchange and also save any edits directly there
When I go into contacts -> settings, under default account for new contacts, it only shows my gmail and it's checked
Have you ever been able to fix this problem? I have the same issue on several Android devices from different brands; none of the native Contacts apps is able to add new exchange contacts.
The only app that can add a new contact is "Contact Editor free" that I have downloaded from the Google Play store.
