Wifi Tethering help

I recently bought a used HTC Hero(Sprint) and I can't get the device to be seen as a hotspot. When I turn on WIFI tethering it is ony detected as a peer-to-peer and not a wifi hotspot. What is wrong any help would be appreciated.
What program are you using for tethering? The app that seems to work best for us Hero users is Wireless Tether for Root Users. It isn't available from the market, so you'll need to Google search for it. There are multiple versions available, but the one that seems to work best is 1.60 for the hero.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
That's the only way it works. Ad hoc only. Sucks if youwant to use a wii, but works with computers, iphone, etc.
Sent from my Hero CDMA using XDA App
I am using the 1.60 version of Wireless Tether for root users. My friend has a EVO and it does not pick up the signal at all but my work laptop does but admin rights don't allow peer-to-peer connection
then you might want to try usb tethering with easy tether or pdanet
I found version 2.0.5 pre3 test 3 at the google code site. I was able to get my hero into infrastructure mode with it. My DS still won't work with it but my laptop does connect to it as a wifi connection instead of ad hoc. I am also able to change the SSID with this version but encryption still does not work. Haven't had a chance to look into those issues yet.

[Q] Wifi tether with WPA2

I swear at one point in time I had a version of Android Wifi Tether that allowed me to use WPA2. Can I still find the apk for this or am I just thinking crazy thoughts?
i have such in CM6 on Desire. would like to get in on TAB...
i've installed WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.0-pre11 which is experimental and includes WPA2, but it doesn't have TAB on the list of devices profiles.
so tethering starts with errors and it doesn't show up in the networks list, i think something's wrong or missing for TAB
the link for the tool is

Why is my phone doing AD-HOC?

I'm tring to run WiFi tethering software so I can get internet access on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet. I have an original Motorola Droid phone. I rooted the phone and when I run any WiFi tethering software it's broadcasting in Ad-Hoc mode. For some reason my Tablet can't see any Ad-Hoc networks. So, this is a big problem for me.
My friend has a Droid Incredible and he has a custom ROM installed on his phone and his phone doesn't broadcast in Ad-Hoc mode, his phone broadcasts with a regular WiFi connection. Why does his work that way and mine only works in Ad-Hoc? Do I have to install a custom ROM to get mine to work in regular WiFi mode? If so, which ROM is recommended?
Another solution is to get my Tablet to recognize Ad-Hoc networks. Is there some way to do that also?
Thanks so much for all your help and time!
Which tethering app are you using?
Both Wireless Tether and the 2.2 default 3G Hotspot app are broadcasting in infrastructure mode.
I remember my Wii not being able to connect to a hotspot created via Wireless Tether - did'nt try 3G Hotspot yet...
Well, I've tried different Hot Spot Apps and they are all the same. I used the same app on both my Droid phone and my friends Incredible phone. His phone worked in Infrustructure and mine worked as Ad-Hoc. I don't know what default 3G Hostspot app you are talking about. My phone didn't come with any. From what I was reading it has to do with the hardware of the phone. Since my phone is so old it only supports Ad-Hoc and the newer phones support Infrustructure. I think that's what people are saying.
I've been reading there is a way to make Tablets see Ad-Hoc but I can't find any information on how to do it with the Toshiba Thrive Tablet. I guess there are different patches and you need to find the right version that's compatible with your Tablet.
So, the only solutions I can see is get a newer phone that supports Infrustructure or to find the patch that works with my Tablet and lets it see Ad-Hoc.
Thanks!

I am not great guru on these phones (or any for that matter). I have similar situation. Had an Evo4G that would wifi tether after root. This phone (Desire 510) seems to have additional guards. After installing the 3.0.3 of the wifi-tether apk there is a message that appears in the log indicating the phone takes control of the wireless ethernet interface after tethering has started. This kills the wifi tether.
I haven't identified what process is block the wifi tether but there is one called tetherguard. Mine is a Sprint phone so tether is available at a fee. The phone must be capable.
