I cant get into [Home+Power] stays at G1 screen. Other then that it does power up and go into phone. and [Power+Camera] works. Any help how to fix this ?
you probably need to reflash your recovery image. the thing that sucks is that the recovery image links are down so if you don't have a copy of it, well you can imagine....
Can you give me a link to one ? And tell me how to reflash ?
And BTW , you seem to always be there , big thanks man.
yeah, seems like you'll need to reflash the recovery.
I actually have a saved copy of the 1.4 recovery, if you give me your email i can send to you. the instructions to install it are on the original thread, here.

For the past 1hrs ive been trying to get my phone to work. I installed cynogens recovery image 1.4 and after that tryed installing a theme and got a black screen i then notice it was because i didnt remove the icons b4 this. I was stuck cause i didnt have an sdcard reader so ive been using my cousin LG phone to transfer my data to the sdcard. So i tryed re-flashing the rom (Cynogen 4.0.4) with wip. Still got the black screen. Tryed a new rom (JACxHEROSki-v2.1) with wip , goes pass the G1 screen to the aqua blue cynogen android scate board screen to the black screen. Help ?

you might want to avoid constantly opening new threads, especially one that just has "?" in the subject; this one might get closed.
if your sdcard is partitioned correctly for cyanogenmod (ext2/ext3 - fat32) then you'll probably need to wipe the ext2/ext3 partition and wipe then reflash the rom. I haven't gone to a HERO rom yes myself, so i'm not sure if there is another step involved for that.

Ive never partitioned for Cynogen i have a clean 1g no partitions. Its always worked for me.
Im assuming that you didnt create a nandroid backup when you installed the recovery image? and let's both assume since you had Cyan running before that you have the correct Radio and SPL images.
ok, if you have no partitions we can skip a couple of steps.. try this, connect your phone to youe PC, boot into recovery with Home & Power and type the following commands.
alt&X to enter console
push enter
ums_enable
this will mount your sd and open it on your PC so you can verify that you have the correct update.zip on the root of your SD.
ums_disable
reboot recovery
alt&W
alt&S
If you are going to start flashing roms you really want to consider getting a bigger SD card, my nandroid backup is like, 900mb and without that it's kinda like playing russian roulette with your phone. I hope this helps.

FYI Start stating a short clip of your issue in the title of the thread.
Most likely if you don't, either:
A: your thread will be locked, or
B: you will not have as many fellow members trying to help you out.
TRhink of it this way, people here are busy.....they would like to know what they are gonna head into prior too opening a thread

You can go in the nandroid folder and delete old backups, folder names have dates. You can also store all of the folders and put them on your sdcard as needed, Nandroid only uses the one with the newest date anyways.

Hey no problem, I'm glad things worked out for you.
Hello all,
can someone please help me?
i have done the guide of rooting here "How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero" including backing up and save the nandroid file to pc.
i want to run the Fresh Rom and started to follow this thread from android forums.
androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/38911-guide-root-rom-faq-tutorial.html
i ran the diagnostics fresh pre-kitchen 0.2 and got an error. all checked mark except java and sendkeys which i received a ? mark.
any help on why i get this?
thanks
Have you tried just flashing the rom? I spoke with someone who ran the diagnostic test and had question marks but he was still able to flash a rom. If you turn your phone off and hold the home button + the power button, you should get a black screen with green writing. If so, you are fine.
yes i do get that green screen.
so what should i do now? like how do i use the Fresh Rom
thanks
*edit..
not in the wiki clearly..
Pull the battery out... While holding your home key, Press power... Continue to hold home... Phone boots into recovery...
Scroll down to wipe... Wipe factory data, dalvik cache, wipe ext... Press back on phone..
Scroll to mount usb... And mount the sd to the computer..
On your computer... Navigate to where you downloaded the rom... Drag and Drop the entire folder onto the sd card...
Press home on your phone to get out of usb mode,
Scroll to flash zip from sd.. and select the rom zip..
It installs.. then reboot the phone..
Download the rom of your choice. Move the .zip onto the root (meaning dont put in any folders) of your SD Card. Turn phone off, hold home key + power button, select flash from sd, select the rom, hit the home key. Wait til it is finished and then reboot.
ok so i am downloading fresh 2.0b now.
no need to extract the file correct or should i extract it first before putting it on the sd card.

Nope it install from the zip.
Now that you are looking into roms be very very very careful.
You can only install roms for the CDMA. There are roms for gsm phones and people screw up and brick their phone that way.
If you stay in this forum then you should be OK unless some asshole comes around.

don't worry about it, since you wiped, the black HTC screen will show up... let it do it's thing, it's a one time deal.
You are going to have to go through the setup process once it finishes loading

that is too long... hmm... try rewiping and reflashing... if it doesn't work, I would suggest downloading a different rom... damage 2.1 and darch's 2.1 are pretty stable roms... but first try the fresh rom... rewipe and reflash... pm me so I can give you my messenger sn this way takes too long to try to figure out your prob
I bricked my hero trying to flash gingerbread. Either because i didn't flash a kernel or i might have overlooked something i should've read. But my phone bricked. Long story but i ended up having to put my sdcard in a friends phone and formatting it, then downloaded something i found on G1 forum and dropped it on my sdcard (not smart i know). Then i took my sdcard out of his phone with that file on it and put it back in mine. Whatever that file was allowed me to now be able to boot into my recovery again/HBOOT&Fastboot. But i CANNOT boot past recovery. I didn't have a nandroid backup anymore since i formatted so i grabbed a 2.1 ROM off of here, something stable, and figured i could drop it on the sdcard and flash it. but nothing. Either it's not completely flashing the ROM, or sometimes it aborts it. So i tried a cm6 ROM. Same thing. It won't flash ANYTHING. Could my recovery have gotten damaged when i formatted my sdcard? i'm using clockworkmods 2.5. I'm on a mac that i recently had to factory reset. i downloaded sdk last night to try to manually install a different recovery. but i can't use htc sync since it's for pc. so i found a another program that will replace htc sync, but i still can't sync because i have to enable usb debugging for it to sync to my phone. and i don't know how to enable usb debugging from recovery. It has blown my mind. i have no idea what to try anynore. If anyone can help out at ALL. please do.
Try going into recovery and going into the partitions menu.
Inside that menu, format the system before you flash another ROM.
Factory reset skips over the /system file.
Try that and let me know what happens.
(I'm assuming you dont have data or anything since you factory resetted)
I guess. Disclaimer: this deletes data
hmm.
Okay so i booted into recovery.
Did a full wipe even though there isn't anything to wipe.
Then formatted the system.
Then installed zip.
Then Reboot system now.
I gave it 15 minutes just to be sure, and it never left the boot logo.
Again like i said it isn't completely flashing the ROM.
It unzips it and gets to where it says "installing package"
and just stops.
From the time i select the zip file that i want to flash, till the time that it says it's done, takes maybe 5 seconds.
That's why i thinking it's my recovery. It might be damaged or something.
If there was a way to enable usb debugging from clockworks recovery then i could manually install a different recovery. butt... i'm getting no where.
Get to a PC 1st and foremost. Go to the HTC website and download the RUU stock. Nevermind about adk and USB yet. You need to be back to stock to have a clean backup again. Once you have downloaded the stock rom be patient and charge the phone beforehand. Hopefully this gets you to stock again. Google Z4root, download and place in the root of the SD. In the market get an apk installer an install Z4. After run Z4 for root. Download and install clockwork after that and make sure you flash the recovery at the top before backing up. Then after that try installing 2.3 but let me know which rom you are trying to use. The one I have needed an different version of clockwork so read carefully. Hope this helps.
mmm a Gingerbread SuperHero....
Also redownload the rom. Could be a bad download.
mmm a Gingerbread SuperHero....
okay i'm going to try that. it's been so long since i've downloaded an RUU or Rooted. Can i flash the RUU like any other? will it be a zip file? Because back when i rooted and had to download the RUU before i could root, i think i installed it using htc sync. But my phone can only be recognized as a storage device. Since i cant enable debugging. I'll see what happens cause the only way i can think to get the stock ROM on there is to flash it. But seeings as how nothing else in the world is completely flashing i might stumble.
It's definitely not the ROMs i've tried like 5 or 6. Three of them being one's i've recently had on there. Oh and I didn't think there was but one Gingerbread ROM out for the hero. And was it the 3.0 clockworkmod? Cause that's what i skipped over thinking it was just extra, Since i had just updated my clockworkmod in ROM manager to 2.5
Wait if i go back to stock. isn't there a chance of loosing root forever?

I "Had" a Similar Problem...
What worked for me was 1 of the 2?
Because I did Both Steps, I'm not really sure what actually fixed it, but all I cared about was it being fixed! With that said, try this!!
1st thing I did was Reflash the Radio, 2.42.02.10.29.zip
2nd thing I did was Wipe Everything, then Flash a New Kernel "I Used Deca's #43" If that Doesn't Work Try DecaFuct #589!
Hope this Helps!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Okay i'll try that! Because i can't even go back to stock since i can't sync with any computer. Because i can't enable usb debugging. Unless there is a way to flash a stock RUU.. i even tried different things in fastboot but it didn't work apparently because of usb debugging. (that's what someone else said). But I will try that and I'll let you know how it goes!
That didn't work either.
Are you using Windows XP to get all this done? I would try finding a PC that has Vista. Or try another PC all together. IDK, just a thought, give it shot, you don't have anything to lose. I wish you luck my friend.
You definitely need the 3.whatever clockwork flash that goes with the gingerbread that's posted here. Clockwork turns orange once its done right. Also don't use setcpu. Adw fc's a lot with it. But that's for later info. For now..
If your able to get into recovery you can save yourself. Rooting again is very one click simple with Z4 in my first post. You need a stock rom to save yourself now though. GET TO A WINDOWS COMPUTER at least with Vista but works great with 7.

LOL I still tell my 18 yo boy that everyday.
lmao! Damn kids
Best bet is to get to a Windows computer, preferably Windows 7. Plug it by USB and you need to get the drivers working for Sync to work at all and get USB debugging back on your phone. Leave the phone off before plugging it in. Plug it in and if the amber light comes on, if so turn on the phone and windows should give a USB notification and try to install drivers. This needs to happen if you want to get back to stock. And you do want back to stock to backup to in case you ever need to take it back to Sprint. They will flag your phone/account so you can't take it anywhere if you show them it's been rooted or custom rom anything. Z4 will also let you unroot the phone to do this.
If all else, I'd try flashing a different rom all together REMEMBER TO WIPE 1ST! then flash the rom. Maybe this will get it to fully install and enable usb, which the 1st thing I'd do when you get going again is get back to stock, root, and backup right away. Hopefully something works for you but let us know please. I'm pretty intrested in how this turns out for you and maybe can help others in this type of case.
Guys please read what all i've said before posting. I'm not completely stupid. i've tried flashing more than just one rom. i tried flashing about 6 roms, a radio, an two different kernels. Nothing flashes. no yellow progress bar... i have a bad recovery. And i can't go back to stock or manually install a new recovery or anything that includes htc sync because i can't enable usb debugging.. i've tried on a windows 7 computer, and have htc sync on it.
If you cant flash anything in recovery, nor can you enable usb debugging. (to convert to stock, or fastboot intalling, or manual intalling, adb, ect... ) then what am i supposed to do?
I think i'm the first person in the world to have this problem on a hero.

haha if you turn it on while it's plugged in, it goes into fastboot usb. Which i tried running commands but like i said.. there's no way to enable debugging so i get "device not found" in return on cmd.
Hey Karrma, go to this post and try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8551240&highlight=hercimg.zip#post8551240
It worked for me after I borked my hero and couldn't do anything but fastboot.
Hope it works for you.
Lets get this out of the way first. I am not responsible if you screw up your phone, but you are probably here because you already screwed up your phone. I have now been through this several times over the last few days. Some will say this process is overkill, but there is no denying that it always works, so please refrain from stating the obvious.
If you have installed or updated CM7/MIUI and lost your baseband, IMEI, or both, this should help you. Due to the amount of people currently having this problem, I would recommend this be stickied at least temporarily until things are straightened out, so people can find it easily.
For Windows only, I do not have a Mac.
Step 1 - Read the entire post and understand everything involved before you attempt this. This is a long ride, probably 30-40 minutes from start to end. This is not for new people, and will assume you have a certain amount of knowledge because you attempted to flash CM7/MIUI.
DO NOT SKIP OR SHORTCUT ANY STEP IN THIS PROCESS, UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY STATED YOU MET THE CRITERIA TO DO SO. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING THIS UNLESS YOU CAN REACH DOWNLOAD MODE AND RECOVERY USING BUTTONS WITH THE PHONE OFF!
Step 2 - Gather what you need...
1 - The AIO Vibrant Toolbox : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Install according to directions in the post. Donate to this guy. He spent alot of time making this easy for you to do.
2 - The old CM7 install files : http://www.mediafire.com/?gn4qoonoe3cjyp6
Unzip to a location that is easy to get to.
3 - The new version of CM7/MIUI you want to install, from the thread of your choice. Donate to the developer you are using, they spend alot of their free time making your phone better. They don't get paid for it, and they dont charge you for it.
4 - Your phone, with a full battery.
Step 3 - Odin to JFD and install Clockwork 2.x
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but power it down and pull your battery. See that sticker under it that says IMEI? Write it down! You will be referencing it a few times throughout the process. Start Odin and select your pit and pda files, they should automatically come up if you are using the toolbox. Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should go to download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it reboots, unplug your phone. Go to settings/about phone and you should have a JFD baseband. Hit status, and check your IMEI. See how it matches the one you wrote down? Yay! Move on to the next item. If it does not, you have some reading to do because you really screwed something up, and it is beyond my power to help you...
2 - Mount phone and put the following files on the root of the sd card:
vibrant-efsbackup.zip (if you already have a backup/efs folder on your sd card you do not need this)
cm7-vibrant-initial-20110224.zip
The zip file of the new CM7/MIUI rom you want to flash.
3 - Download ROM Manager and install clockwork recovery 2.x (if you already have the update.zip on your sd card, which you should, you can also skip this) and power down your phone.
4 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button method (holding volume up and down and power, releasing power when the word VIbrant appears on your screen), hit reinstall packages, you may have to hit it twice to get to clockwork recovery. Choose to install zip from sd card, and select vibrant-efsbackup.zip. Let it do its thing. Then select reboot, and when it does, check your sd card for a backup/efs folder. Got it? Good. Power down the phone. (Obviously, if you already have the efs backup completed, you could have skipped this step.)
Step 4 - Install Clockwork 3.x and Old CM7
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but pull your battery. Start Odin and hit the pda button, select the file cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar from the CM7 package you unzipped (Remember, in a place that is easy to find). THIS IS IMPORTANT - UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT!!! Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should enter download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it is finished, pull the usb cable. With the download mode screen still on your phone, boot into recovery using the 3 button method. You should now be in clockwork recovery 3.x. Move on to the next item! If you did not get in, you can try to pull your battery, replace it and boot into recovery from there. If you still can't get there, you get to go where the people who do not properly follow instructions go... back to Step 1.
2 - In clockwork 3.x, choose factory reset, and let it do it's thing. Then go to mounts and storage, and format system, data, and cache. Choose install zip from sd card and choose cm7-vibrant-initial -20110224.zip. As it is installing, one of the last things you see should be "restoring efs". Hit reboot when finished, and boot into CM7. When it boots, make sure you toggle the lockscreen a couple times so it connects to service. Check baseband and IMEI again. Baseband should have changed to KB1. IMEI still the same right? Awesome! Power down the phone, move to the next step! It's not? You my friend, get to meet all your other friends back at Step 1.
Step 5 - Installing what you really want...
1 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button combo. Do a factory reset, wipe cache partition, go to advanced and wipe Dalvik cache. Choose install zip from sd card, and pick that shiny new version of CM7/MIUI you picked out. You are almost there. Flash it! Reboot, and when it comes back up, take note of what time it is and DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE FOR 15 MINUTES. You have no idea the amount of bugs this squashes. After that, check the baseband, it will be KB1 unless the rom you just flashed changed it. Check the IMEI, even though you already know it is right anyway. If it is not, do i have to say it again? You know where you are going...
2 - Destroy the paper you wrote your IMEI on, you would not want that info in the wrong hands...
3 - Enjoy your new rom
FAQ:
Q: I did everything you said, and it did not work!
A: You either skipped a step, or did not stop at the point I told you you were screwed.
Q: No, seriously, I did everything you said!
A: Seriously, I have done this 5 times in the past 3 days, and it worked every time.
Q: I installed CM7 nightly #9,10,or 11 with this method, and I have no sound on calls. What gives?
A: These builds have known issues with in call audio. Flash CM7.1
Q: Once I am on CM7/MIUI, do I have to do this every time or can I update normally?
A: Once you are on CM7 or MIUI with the proper IMEI and a good baseband, you should be able to update via the rom posting instructions. If you decided to switch from CM7 to MIUI or vice versa, I would go back to this process to get your initial installation.
Q: I installed CM7.1 and then tried to go to MIUI, and lost everything again, what happened?
A: There are changes betweeen CM7 to 7.1 that have made this difficult due to compatability issues, which is why I recommend doing this process again if you want to switch between the two.
Q: I thought there was an easier way to do this, why so many steps?
Read the first paragraph of the post, but I guess that is also asking too much...
Great post. Thanks for the info...
Pretty sure you can install the latest CM7 just via clockwork2.
i thought the baseband loss was due to kernel compatibility with the newer versions of CM7/Miui? Good post nonetheless hope it helps people out.

Exactly why I went back to doing this. My last couple quick flash installs have been a disaster.

Good info... subscribed for future reference. Any idea what is calling baseband/imei corruption; and why it is sporadic?

I've done this twice now, and yet again I end up in a situation where my phone will only boot to Clockwork Recovery.
If it helps, Clockword always says E:no misc partition at the bottom. Never seen that before with all of my flashing endeavors.

The e: thing means nothing, it is a old CM7 thing. At exactly what point are you getting stuck booting into recovery?
Is this your first time flashing CM7/MIUI?

Great tut
I also posted something on this topic here:

May help people that have already screwed up their EFS.

Nope, I was previously running CM7.1. I said **** it and installed 7.1 from CWM2 and it worked perfectly. IMEI is correct and everything.
It seemed to **** up when ODINing the initial kernel.

Glad it worked out for you anyway, may have been a bad download. Those are the exact files I use to do it... and I am on CM7.1 using this method after losing my IMEI trying to go from clockwork 2...
Was it when you tried to boot into clockwork 3 for the first time, or after you wiped and flashed the initial rom?

Completely clueless, but that is why I put this up, so after I had a definite way to fix mine, others could fix theirs. The problem itself seems to be more with MIUI than CM7, but it is happening with both. I would not be surprised if it happened to more people who have simply not checked their IMEI, and are working off a generic one because they have service.
Curious what happens if the imei is in the wrong hands and stolen
- excuse my grammar im using swype-
My external sd card is not recognized after successfully booting MIUI. This has been bother me for days now... I see sd card icon in the status bar and it says "sd card safe to remove" I tried mounting/unmounting/formating - I only see the main partition when i plug usb cable to windows. EMMC folder is empty as well.
Does anyone else experience this?!
what i dont understand is Rom manager premium made it so easy a baby could install it! download rom off rom manager premium CM7 nightlies make sure u flash clockwork recovery vibrant mtd and 3x and not 2x! install download and wait......way too easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure u wipe data, wipe dalvik and backup rom when it asks its pretty simple.
I've got a better way, install Rom manager, select rom, click flash. TADA!!!!
I have a question on the clockworkmod recovery using the ADB..obviously when you try and install it through Rom Manager you only have an option for the Optimus V...so I followed the thread that designgears posted..enabled all the permissions and it seemed to all work...however, after the phone rebooted and I checked my sd card, nothing new was there...there is however a file on my internal memory "mmcblk0p6.backup"..its 10mb...is this the backup file it was supposed to create...also, when I go to Rom Manager and click on CWM it still says its not installed..am I doing something wrong or mising a step..any help is appreciated! I really wanna have this so I can flash a custom ROM...thank you!

You cannot use ROM Manager with the Thrill at this point. It sounds like you mistype a command when you were doing this. I would go back and redo the steps.

I think he may be misunderstanding CWM. In order to see if you have it installed, you need to do the 3 button combo when restarting. If you redo the steps that DG posted, you are probably going to overwrite the stock recovery that you just copied to your SD card.
Try restarting your phone while pressing and holding the 3D button, Volume Down, and then the power button until the LG comes up. Release the Power button only (keep holding 3D and Vol. Down) and it should boot into CWM.
Thanks for your reply! I tried the 3 button combo and it booted to CWM..so thats great...could you maybe elaborate on what you meant by overwriting the stock recovery...did I mess anything up by using the ADB method to install CWM...it says I'm supposed to have a recovery file on my SD card, but as I said, theres a file thats labeled ".backup" but its not on my external card..its under my drive for the actual phone memory...thanks again! I'm really new to the whole Android scene..I had an iphone for the past couple years and fairly good with jailbreaking..dont miss it at all tho..this is a bit more complicated but love the challenge! thanks for your help!

The concern would be if you did the procedure that DG described to put CWM on more than once. Since you did a backup of the stock recovery once, and installed CWM in place of it, if you did another backup of it, you would essentially be replacing your original backup with a backup of CWM instead. None the less, it's not really anything to worry about, because there is a backup of the stock recovery posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270832 as well as the stock ROM. I just didn't want you to be surprised if you wanted to go back to stock and tried to restore your original recovery only to find that it is CWM that got backed up.
Make sense?
Yes, makes perfect sense..I actually did try that for the second time before I posted here...however, I moved the .backup file from the first try to my external SD card before I tried the second time...so I have a .backup file on my external card and the one from the second try on my phone memory...could i just delete the file from my phone memory and move the external file back? lol...just a thought...in any case, you have a good point with the stock recovery and rom available..thanks again for your help!

No problem. As long as you have a copy of it somewhere, you're golden.
where are the guides for installing clockworksmod, cwm onn the thrill?
People talk about it but i cant find any thing other than people asking about it when searching clockworksmod, cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257588
In the first post is how you go about installing CWM on your Thrill. Best thing to do is read through the posts and understand what you are doing before you start.
Great! Thanks again!
great that did the trick
for everybody who has trouble with where it says the rest will b done on the phones shell in cmd type:
all commands are done on the computer NOT the phone
kinda confused me
i've went through the steps that dg posted at least 5 or 6 times, and as far as i can tell, everything works in adb, but when i try to reboot, it just starts with the lg screen, then att screen and boots like normal, no cwm

Are you using the 3 button combo to get into recovery?
Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk
yep, power off, hold all 4, release power once LG come up and keep holding the rest, still get att and boot up
You're only supposed to hold the 3D, Vol Down, and Power Button.
ah, i thought it was vol +/-...
that works !! thanks, lol
