You have to download the ROM from the ROM dev. section...unzip the file and then save the file on the uSD card...if needed change the name of the file to Kovsimg.nbh and then use the down vol key/power button to flash the ROM you desire...
Tk cr

thankyou for your input, however i have been doing this but im still getting 'no image file' with the Kovsimg.nbh loaded on my memory stick. its puzzling me as its never happened to me before and ive flashed around 15-20 roms

hi
I expect your sd (and it's content, incl. the Kovsimg.nbh in root dir) is correctly displayed in your file explorer?
did you experiment a little: like shutdown phone, extract sd, restart phone, reinsert sd, retry flash; something on that line?
I read a few times that this might happen out of the blue, if you can't get it working for someone having the same problem and offering a workaround
cheers and gl

*** Flash X1 without PC - Micro SD Method ***

This is useful if you load a bad image and cannot make an activesync connection for RUU flashing method.
This method works for any 6.1 and 6.5, and even radio rom.
*** Some Kingston brand may have problem to use SD method, no solution other than use RUU method ***
0. Make sure x1 is hard-spl first
1. Make sure yr micro-sd is formatted w/ fat-32
2. rename the image file (normally "ruu_signed.nbh") to Kovsimg.nbh, copy that to the micro-sd, and put that it yr X1
3. Make sure X1 is disconnect to your PC to avoid goes to serial mode (AC power source is OK)
4. Bring x1 to boot-loader mode by turning off the x1 completely. Hold the "volume down" button on the right, and hold the power on button until you see the tri-color screen.
5. Then follow the on-screen instruction
Thx, always using this system.

This could be a problem with you're ROM language.
My xperia was english, so had no problem. 2 Dutch xperia's had this problem.
Just flashed SPL first, then flashed the english rom. And now the sd card method works on the 2 dutch xperia's.

I also got the same problem when using the rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2392404&postcount=1 but the flash of microSD method ran pretty well with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218&page=6
Does the device automatically reboot after it's installed? I just used this method and the device currently says:
'KOVSIMG.nbh - OK
OS - OK
Update Complete
UPDATE SUCESS'
It hasn't done anything since.
spr33 you take the battery out, put it back in and switch on
I'm having a few problems, I have the HardSPL installed but when i load the rom image on the sd card and reboot the bootloader shows a message of "no image found". Is there something im doing wrong? The sd card is formatted to fat32 and it only has the images on it

It works, I'm free and thank you
After weeks and weeks aof reading, reading, reading, making copious notes so that I had the process sorted from start to finish, I decided to bite the bullet tonight, yes, New Years Eve (well it is my new X1 after all ).
OliNex Hard SPL worked a charm, then during the micro SD method, the dreaded "no image file" message appears. RATS!
Numerous FAT32 processes, different ROMS and still the same message.
Tried the cable version using RUU and viola, I now sport the fantastic Touch IT v2.2 and NO VODAFONE
I would like to thank the more senior members for their cutting comments to witless noobs that made me read, search and read again.
Also to itje for his great ROM - have only just had a cursory scan so far as only just finihsed synch, and running like a dream. Donation certainly coming your way!
HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL at XDA Developers from a very happy revitalised X1 owner!

Has anyone more of an idea why the SD card method is causing so many to come up with the "No image file" message" ?
The USB version works for me, just would like to know the reason for error message - in case need to use it one day
BIG QUESTION:
Why some people can't flash from microSD card ??
I had the same issue
After a lot of trial and error, testing and testing, I arrived to this conclusion:
IMPOSSIBLE TO FLASH WITH microSD METHOD
(Nothing happens, "serial" message or "No image found" message popped up)
a) When I used an incorrect format (other than FAT32) on any brand card
b) With two Kingston cards properly formatted
I have successfuly flashed my X1 with unbranded cards and sandisk cards,
but after many attempts and format variants I NEVER achieved a successful flashing with kingston cards
Interesting...
Hi guys! i tried 2 flash my x1 ending in f***d up device.
I did the following:
1) running the hard_spl. The flashing started and at about 50% it stopped went back to the stripes screen telling me file not found...serial....all the things you guys described in the forum.
2) I created a card with a Kovsimg.nbh and restarted the device. Result was the same: File not found!!! but i did all like in the tutorial.
3) I tried again with hard_spl: First I got an Error 282 then 262. The device changes from stripes to grey screen the bar shows 0% ......thats all.
any suggestions??????????????????

Hello you're not alone in the dark
My Xperia do it in the same way. So i hope we will get an answer.
Additional i have problems to use the Internet yet. After receiving a config SMS the applications which are using internetdata didn't get some. The connecting to provider or wifi seem OK but no data for the application.
Provided the card is read, make sure you formatted your card properly with FAT32 and placed renamed ROM file into the ROOT.
It's possible to read the card (after booting the phone). The card is Fat32 fomatted and the imagename is set. But it's not only the problem to flash using the CD-card. Also trying by using the sync-methode will fail. I get the splashscreen with the bar showing the percentage. In the state of 0% i get an error message. No recovery is needed, but i never get the phone flashed.
My problems is exackly the same
If it doesn't work use the USB method, it always works.
Hi VingZTV,
You're wrong please read my post #7 in this thread.
I called it sync method, cause you are using active sync.

I encountered this problem too. My present X1 (3rd already) refused to hardSPL or do anything with both PC (stucked at 0%, connection errors etc) and SD method ("no image file" later stuck at "loading"). Previous ones worked with either SD or PC method
This time I tried different cables and PCs and couldn't hardSPL
nor was the SD card method working, tried different cards and formatted one to fat32 before putting image file
it seems the problem might be on X1's where SPL is stock 0.78 ?
Anyways for me it worked finally when I tried hardSPL with RUU to 0.52olinex ("X1_HardSPL.exe" file) on a different PC and cable with a formatted card inserted where 0.78olinex was renamed to kovsimg.nbh (so ready to flash hardSPL with SD method which didn't work befere). The phone was set to bootloader by the program and then started flashing the image on the SD! (the program reported error as usual)
phone flashed it once, restarted, did it again and was ready!
Then I had no problem to flash a ROM with SD method normally
So I don't know what could be the reason it worked or it was a coincidence maybe try to:
WARNING: AS ALWAYS YOU DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK!
- insert a freshly formatted card with hardSPL file (0.78olinex perhaps) renamed to kovsimg.nbh
- sync with PC and try to hardspl PC way like above and maybe the phone will finally flash the SPL from the SD
- let us know if it worked
It still doesn't work
I used 128m microSD and formated to FAT32, only copy 0.78RUU_Signed.nbh to SD card, renamed to kovsimg.nbh. After I used VOL- and power bottom. It only showed me loading.....
I also tried 0.72, looks same. DID I do some thing wrong?
Thank you very for any response!

I cannot flash my Xperia X1 with Custom ROM

I cannot flash my phone with custom rom. I was taking all the steps from BioVolt tutorial but all i get when loaded in bootloader is tricolor bootloader that tells me KOVS110 SPL-0.72.OliNex MicroP1-787 MicroP2-707 and Serial. I have changed the name of custom_RUU and it did not help me. What shoul I do to flash it?
Where have you stored the rom image you want to flash? Don't place it in a subfolder of your storage card. And what is the name of your image file after you renamed it?
Your new ROM must be in root of card and it must have name Kovsimg.nbh
i'm also a novice; have done all as per tutorial by "Milancex" but same way after showing three color screen and info about my SPL and Radio...a white screen comes and says "Loading" and after that nothing.
this file "kovsimg.nbh" is on root of my memory card; but it does have other files and folders of my data

I never needed to do the Task29 stuff BTW....
Have you read the thread about the "Micro SD method"?
Once you have your X1 hardSPL'd it is sufficient to
power off (remove battery for 2 seconds, reinsert)
insert µSD with KOVSIMG.nbh in root (regardless of other stuff on card, doublecheck in cardreader on PC that the file is there and has correct name)
press and hold "volume down" button, press and hold power button until tri-color screen appears
If this doesn't work you might have copied/renamed the wrong file....
thanx louis; just reformatted my SD card and copied the file again and here i go; i'm happy wid the new rom ; thanx to all...

same as above, plus: You need Windows and ActiveSync (for XP) - I just don't recall the exact name of the Device Management in Windows > XP.
Once you got your PC connected to the phone start thinking about the rest.....

[Solved] tar: can't open 'sdcard/andboot/androidinstall.tar

Hello,
I have an problem about installing / applying the update for the kernel.
Im trying now for almost 1 week. Maybe when u read this u think again an newbie that tries android on his kaiser.
I searched the forum an couple of times and didn't find an solution thats why i make an new thread. My problem is the following.
whatever i try to install android or the kernel update i see this message before it dissappear to the install menu.
Installing:
tar: can't open 'sdcard/andboot/androidinstall.tar' : no such file or directory exist
My setup:
Phone: HTC Kais130
Bootloader: 3.34 HardSPL
Radio: 1.71.09.01
Kernel: 2.6.32 (also tried with the 2.6.25)
Mutiple micro sd cards (from 2 - 8 gb) formatted in Fat32 or Fat
Roms: i tried: Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 Froyo[2.2.2]: My Modified Fresh Froyo
Flashing the kernel doens't give any problems. i created the KAISIMG.NBH with atools.
Does anyone know what to do? cuz im out of options. I got 4 Kaisers here with all at the same problem.

Hello Daedric thanks for responding.
Uhm these are the files i on the sd card at the moment.
/KAISIMG.nbh
/andboot/androidinstall.tar ( i tried also several times with .tgz)
/andboot/androidupdate.tar
with the option 1 install system i get that error and the same with option 4 install update.
I format my micro sd every time i try or change the files. What is following u the best way of format and which one?
edit:
I just saw the link of Kaiser android wiki and followed exactly the staps about the kernel with cache en scoot rs3. Still the same error. Sd card formatted in fat32 with 4k cluster.
Is there not an way i can flash it directly to the nand trough usb? This because i got 3 non working devices, and 1 turned back to 6.5.3
Hello again,
Solved the problem.
somehow the 3 micro sd's i used were corrupt, i bought one new one and tried the one on the kaiser wiki. And there it is it worked.
So for anyone else that have this problem and u find this with google.
Get other sd's
