We need a Clean 2.1 version
literally
Clean, as bug free as possible.... plain old android is sleek and easy to work with... sense is good admittedly but we need plain 2.1 ... fix the problems then look at sense
don't we already have that?

Hello all,
I am new to this site and new to the custom ROM rooting, I not the biggest fan of android 2.1 so I looking for a new ROM, does anyone have any suggestion's on ROM's I could use for my phone and the directions, since I being new I have no idea how to root. I have the Sprint CDMA Hero, Thanks in advance and sorry for being a newbie
My favorite 1.5 rom was Fresh 1.1 accompanied by the gumbo kernel.
You'll have to do a little searching to find it though, pretty much everything has been built on 2.1 for the last few months.
Ya I notice most newer ROM's are based off 2.1 which is fine with me, I just not a fan of the andriod 2.1 update, lots of apps just run randomly, and horrible call and dial lag

Not a fan of Android 2.1? Or Sense 2.1? I'd go try darchdroid before going back to anything 1.5
+1 for DarchDroid.
Check the Stickies or the Wiki. Everything you need to Root and flash ROM's is in those.
Hello guys, new owner of a Tattoo looking for some info:
I have been playing around with Android 2.1 ROMs specially Abyzou and Kiljacken and I have one question:
Can I install the HTC Sense UI that originally came with my 1.6 Tattoo on Android 2.1? Because that's all I really needed to have my phone as I wish. The 2.1 Sense UI doesn't have information about the cities here in Portugal as the one that came with the phone had.
Also, one other thing,
I have done a NAND+Ext backup using Maverick's recovery, but I can't restore it because the phone tells me to type a command in adb in my computer that doesn't do anything... Any clues?
Thanks in advance,
K.
In reply to your Sense UI from 1.6 on 2.1 - the short answer is no, as Android 1.6 uses a totally different framework than 2.1 (1.6 processes commands differently than 2.1).

Thanks Coburn64 I've gone back to the stock 1.6 ROM for now.
ROM 2.1 with Sense UI?
why don't you try Killjacken ROM.. it's based on android 2.1 but with sense UI applied.. i'ts a little bit slow in first install, but try to install autokiller, and restart, you will find that it's a good ROM to try...

HTC Tattoo - ROM Fyodor AOSP - v.0.6.4.2 with ADW Launcher

Would autokiller make it usable? Because the ROM is very slow atm.
can anyone hit me with a link for a stock 2.1 or 2.2 rom for sprint hero or is there a way to run sense with cyanogen
The Hero doesn't have a stock 2.2 with Sense. There are a couple AOSP 2.2 ROMs though. And no, you can't run Sense on Cyanogenmod. It's Android only, no Sense at all, and anything HTC or Sense-related won't work in it.
As for the Stock 2.1 ROMs, there are a couple of them in the Development forum. They aren't hard to find, just read the titles of the threads or use the Search feature (a good thing to keep in mind here). One of the stock ROMs is linked in my signature below.
I have a sony ericsson x8 and I can not download certain applications from the market. I was told it is because of the old version of android 2.1 I have.
Should I upgrade it to version 2.2? If yes, how can I do that?
Are there any disadvantages on doing that?
Thanks.
Some apps need armv7 to run, we can't change that but if you want to upgrade, read the stickies.

There are no disadvantages (well, if you like the X8´s Timescape, you´ll think that the fact, that it doesn´t work on Froyo is a disadvantage, but you can run Arc Timescape on it.), everthing is working with Froyo.
It´s smooth, you can take 3MP photos and VGA videos with it, you can play games with it, zoom with two fingers in the browser.....some people also say that the battery life is better with Froyo than with SE´s Eclair....just read nthe guides to install it, and then read the descriptions of the ROMs, and you´ll know everthinjhg you have to know before you can flash it.
Since I've been on custom software, I've never looked back, go for it Dude!

ow boi, smells good....
First of all thank you guys for the replies.
codfreak, I don't understand the meaning of your reply because I'm a new in this issue.
What is Froyo? Is my 2.1 version (or 2.2) also called like this?
If not, should I upgrade my X8 to Froyo and not to 2.2? and if I want to upgrade to 2.2 (or higher) anyway, can I do that?

Android versions get names by candys alphabettically:
Android 1.5 - Cupcake
Android 1.6 - Donut
Android 2.1 - Eclair
Android 2.2 - Froyo
Android 2.3 - Gingerbread
and so on...
Which means that Froyo is codename of Android 2.2. Also I would recomend you to try GingerDX by Doixanh which is really fast and fully workable Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) ROM.

For Gingerbread, do I need to install Gingerbread + GingerDX or only one of them?
not to cast any disrespect to the authors of those customed ROM but honestly has anyone seriously gone in and check through their codes? Right there could very well be the sneakest trojan you will ever find behind your next banking transaction.
How about a clean, fast, full 2.1 sense rom? It takes less perfomance and memory than sense 3.0/3.5. What do you think about that?? I think that it can be tweaket to be almost as stock 2.1 for example on desire etc.
Several options already available:
MoDaCo Custom Desire Port
eViL's NXSense v.1.26
MicroMod's SuperHybrid
RoDrIgUeZsTyLe's FroyoSense
ABHI RHD [2.3.3 stock/sense hybrid]
Interest in "clean" 2.1 Sense is gone though.
Well, none of them is pure 2.1 sense... some of them are even enclair... ill try to make a sense 2.1 clean.

What do you mean by that? Are you gonna develop a clean Sense 2.1-ROM?
I can just state this: I came to the NEXUS ONE owning a HTC HD2 before and the Stock Sense 2.1 was the most stable and fluently running ROM on that device.
Would be nice to see somthing like that for the N1 - though Modacos ROM is nearly ideal
+1
I also want GB+clean stock 2.1, newer rom was mostly hybrid

Ill give my best
Any progress?
BTW: Should it be android 2.2 or 2.3?
