cant flash ROM to X1 - can someone help? - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

I am trying to different ROMS to my X1.
The first one i tried was S4_v1.6_WM6.5.5-full-23549_XPERIA_X1_13.04.2010
The first time i connected my X1 via USB to my PC.
- I started the included CustomRUU.exe file and went through all the dialogues.
- The X1 restarted by itself an showed
KOVS110
SPL-0.78.0000
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
- Then a process bar appeard that freezed at 0%
- after some seconds the software on the PC told me abput a connection error 262 although it was able to read the software Version of the X1 before.
- The next step i tried was to copy the file onto the SD Card. I formated it in the SD card slot of my notebook with FAT32 (no fast formating).
- Then i copied the image file onto the card and renamed id to kovsimg.nbh
- I made a hard reset
- The X1 said "no image file" an showed again the colour screen.
- The next step i tried was to format the SD directly in the X1.
- So i configured the X1 for accessing the sd card as a harddisk. It appeard in the Windows explorer and i was able to format it.
- I copied again the kovsimg.nbh file
- after the hard reset the X1 shows "Loading..."
- i waited for half an hour but nothing changed.
What i am doing wrong?
What is the difference between CustomRUU.exe and X1_HardSPL.exe?
Do i need an other version of SPL (for example 0.72) and where can i get it?
I wanted to test WM 6.5 in order to get again a bluetooth connection to my Opel Vectra CD70. I other threads some people said that this would be the only way to get this pair running.
I would be very happy if someone could give me an useful tip without all the abbreviations that an newbie will never understand.
Thanks for your help
matthias

I think you didn't h-spl (from sticky olinex thread) your phone, which is absolutely mandatory
otherwise it would show
...
SPL-0.72.OliNex
...
in your bootloader
pls confirm

Hi DrakenKorin, many thanks for your fast reply.
I dowloaded X1_HardSPL_v1.zip from the thread Olinex Hard Spl.
I unzipped the file and got one file called X1_HardSPL.exe
By clicking this file the aplications comes up an some other files will be uncompressed in the same directory.
The appilcation is reading my current Image Version 1.05.207.13 and would like to update it to 1.00.X1
When i start the update the X1 will reboot an now shows 0.52.OliNex
Waht should i do next?
Thanks for your help

Hab's geschafft.
It is running with WM 6.5
I thing my fault was that i did not see the difference between the OliNex Hard-SPL and the the customRUU.exe
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Matthias

congratz, was busy and just wanted to start answering your previous post when I saw your update
enjoy your wm6.5.X experience

What you can try.
if you have the seral message on your screen then just replace it in cradel and rerun the no_id application.
Are you SURE that you are using a valid ship.exe file and that you have extracted all the files and are following the upgrade instructions for 1.42 as per wilki.

We have had a few (very few) that were not able to do an upgrade form thier pc. Not sure if this is a USB issue or software but after all the suggestions that we gave these people and none of them worked all they had to do was move over to a different pc and it worked.
So we know that the wiki 1.42 upgrade page works, that the file works and that the instructions are correct. Best for you is to try a different pc.

Did you do a hardSPL that worked then the tricolor should say xxxxx OLINEX
cant you see the name Olinex then hardSPL agian. if that is not the problem check your memory card so it is FAT32 and original sectors (windows format standard)?

The same thing happened to me when I tried to update the Spanish ROM. That is because you are missing ONE step
You need to use NBH Utils to do several things before you get the file you need to rename to "Kovsimg.nbh":
- Download the file you want to use and rename it from *****.image to ****.image.nbh
- Run NBHUtil
- Go to "Extract NBH" tab
- Choose *****.image.nbh
- Now you should see something like this:
Model ID: KOVS*****
Target CID: 11111111
Version: 1.02.932.3
Language: DEU Remember what it says here. Could be something else for you, depending on the language of the file you want to use!
Chunk Size: 64
- Click the "Extract" button next to OS:
- Save it as OS.nb
- Go to "Build NBH" tab
- Select the X1 as model
- Set language to the value you should remember ;-)
- Click on "..." next to OS:
- Select the previously extracted OS.nb file
- Click "Build NBH"
- Save it as "Kovsimg.nbh"

thanks for taking time and making it clear
it worked for
I had the same problem when i installed my latest rom.
All i had to do was to Hard-SPL and format the micro-sd card as fat32.
Then you copy the kovsimg.nbh file into your memory card.
Easy peasy
By the way...
With all the step above you are only upgrading the OS not the splash images, and the radio...
To update all no need to do thats steps...
All the step no needed just have to rename the file to KOVSIMG.nbh and copy to the root...Not problem to me at all...
But you must remember to have the MicroSD in FAT32 format and use the MicroSd that comes with your xperia...
In some cases the fault is the MicroSD brand...
I have read somewhere the Kingston MicroSd present problems to flash Xperia..But i havent test that either....Dont have a Kingston one...
Only Sandisk...
Please try to use SDHC micro-sd memory card.
FAT32
Yes, MicroSD card has to be in FAT32 format.
Hy
First of all we need to know exactly what org. Xperia (language, brand) you have and the name of Rom you like to flash to your Phone.
Cause you need to know that a phone without hard SPL will not accept other rom than org generic or org. Brand (t-mob, O2, Voda) in org. Language to flash.
If you like to flash WWE rom on a German T-mob Xperia you have to Hard SPL the Phone first! Hard SPL is easy make sure no sd card with a rom on it is in the phone!!!
make sure you flash newest org rom first before flashing a custom rom, to have last Radio on your Xperia.
I had the same problem when I use the 4GB "Hancock-card" (formatted to fat32 off course). So I use the old skool pc->active sync -> usb cable method. That works perfect

2- put the renamed file onto your memory card.
3- remove and insert the battery
4- press the volume down button and while pressing press the power button (keep both button pressed)
5- the mobile should start and give your three colored bars, keep on pressing.
6- a screen will come up showing it is starting to update. now release the two button.
7- wait till all update/intallation has finished.
8- remove and insert battery.
9- power on your mobile and do the initializations and wait for it to install some other programs and files.
10- phone will restart now for the final time.

and i did that too
0a) make sure you have .NET framework installed on your PC! if not, get it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
0b) if you have vista, WMDC update is recommended: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ce-center.mspx
1) download Hard-SPL package from attachment, extract to an empty folder.
2) it is recommended you download only the X1_HardSPL_v1.zip unless you want to tinker with MFG SPL (MFG SPL 0.52 is a separate attachment).
3) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!
4) run X1_HardSPL.exe. (if you want to flash MFG SPL: at this point replace the extracted RUU_Signed.nbh with the MFG version of RUU_Signed.nbh)
5) follow steps in the RUU, and check on the device for prompts after PC shows loading bar.
but i got eurrer 202 what sgould i do now plz
Two problems here (at least)
1. You did not Hard-SPL (the three coloured screen should say something like OliNex 0.72. )
2. To load ROM from memory card, call the file KOVSimg.nbh, not ruu_signed.nbh, that's for loading from windows ROM update utility)

Image file not found, help please!

Hello people.
I have minor problem over here, I have flased my rom before but in a different way Through the xperia x1 phone with the usb cable in, all I had to do was to install a file through the pc.
But there is another way Id like to do it now, I have a .image file and have renamed it to "kovsimg.image" and I did also install HARD_SPL before.
To make it easier for u to help me.
1. Install hard spl
2. put the kovsimg.image into the memory card
5. Remoed the USB cable
3. turned of the phone
4. Pressed down lower sound and on/off button together (I got to the correct place where there are different colors.
5. Image file not found!
At nr 5., that is where the problem is. Why does it say Image file not found?
I have also tried with .nbh file 2, occuring the same problem though.
Thanks!
The filename should be "kovsimg.nbh"

But in another thread that is sticky, said that it can both me .nbh and .image
So the fact that was said is wrong I guess?
Well that will not either fix the problem, before the .image I tried with a kovsimg.nbh file and had the same problem.
Thanks
Make sure the filesize is the same so you have copied the all of the file "kovsimg.nbh"
happens to me sometimes that there is missing a few megabytes and the phone dont find a image..

You only hard_spl ones, you can make so many flashings you want but remember to do a hardreset after flashing..
did u try to search the forum?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469300
boy, you really haven't read the stickys or haven't understand them fully...
just be glad that this flash-process is pretty stable and it's almost impossible to brick one's phone beyond revival.
read them again!
but to summarize it:
- you only have to do hard-spl once. until you flash stock-spl (that's not stock-rom!) it remains there forever.
- regardless if flashing via usb or microsd, the filetype has to be .nbh
- looks to me as if you didn't change the filetype of the image, but just the filename. so it actually is "kovsimg.nbh.image" right now, which will not be accepted by bootloader (the tricolor-screen-thingy).
check these two things before flashing again:
1. check if hard-spl was successfull:
take your sd-card out, and enter bootloader. it will now stay on tricolor screen. there it should read "SPL-0.72.OliNex". (among other stuff)
if it reads "SPL-0.72.0000" or "78" you haven't succeeded in hard-spl -> read the sticky again.
2. check the filetype of your image-file:
get your windows to show filetypes (how depends on which version, google it) and make sure the file's name is really just "kovsimg.nbh", nothing more.
(via usb-cabel it has to be "ruu_signed.nbh", btw)
put the kovsimg back on your sd-card (directly to root, meaning not into a folder), put it back in and enter bootloader again. follow the instructions on screen.
if you followed these instructions correctly, it will work now.
to flash any other roms in the future you just have to name the file right and put it on your sd-card -> bootloader. (again, hard-spl will not be needed.)
after flashing finished do a hard-reset! when flashing via sd you have to take the battery out and back in to do a restart. that's the perfect moment:
- take battery out
- put it back in
- press and hold (!) the two silver-buttons under the screen
- press the power-button shortly (while still holding the two silver ones!)
- phone will vibrate and enter a white screen
- release the two buttons and follow instructions on screen
When you downloaded the ROM did you make sure to extract it first with either WinZIP or WinRAR before you renamed the file? ALL ROMs are compressed usually with WinRAR to save time uploading. Then you download and extract the file. Then you rename the image file to the respective name on how you wish to flash your phone.
Thanks for the replies but the problem is still here :/
I checked the bootloader and it said "SPL-0.72.OliNex", which means I have installed the HARD_SPL correctly.
Atm I have Energys rom installed, but I didnt install it the same way as this way I am trying to do now. I just had to have the cable checked in and follow an installation and it was done.
Right now I have tried with several roms but none has worked, for the moment I am trying to get this rom to work "Valkyrie_v3.8 FireStorm" without success ofcourse..
I did everything correct, I know that I have. I also followed a video guide to check I made it correct.
The file name is kovsimg.nbh (Ive checked it and it is a .nbh file, my brother also confirmed it).
When I try to flash it, the USB cable is out, the phone is shut (tried to pull out the battery 2), but still the same problem "No image file!".
And yes, I did first extract the file. The size has the same amount as in the winrar file so nothing is missin. After that I changed the file name and copied it into the root of Memory card.
PS. Is this the only way to flash it, I mean is it not possible to do the same way as I did with energy's? (Its the same way as installin HARD_SPL)

Befor this make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 using a PC. If not, it will not work.
or you could just do it the same way as the energyrom
i.e. customRUU.exe
well, sounds like it's your sd-card. probably formating it again with fat32 will help. there are also reports of some sd-models/brands not working at all. there's a thread for this by gtrab, i think. although there it says "kingston" cards don't work at all - i'm flashing with a kingston 8gb for almost a year now... ^^)
if you choose to get customruu.exe for usb-flash DON'T use the one from hard-spl, that's a special one.
try remove SD card and flash without PC
The SD-cards format is Fat32, but I used a different way this time by doing as Jonny~ mentioned and it worked all fine!
Thanks for the help, great service.
Take care and wish me luck in the future with my xperia

[TUT] Task 29 from HD2 now confirmed to work for Blackstone

What does Task 29 (hex edited) do = It formats the partition drive of your device where the ROM resides.
Why use this = it is observed and several ROM cooks even advice to do this prior to flashing in the HD2 thread that it gives
a thorough cleaning of the partition, removing any leftover junks thereby giving a fresh partition for the ROM to operate
to give you an idea of what Task 29 is look at this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtTDuc4V4cU
DONT USE AN SPL .nbh file
Task 29 from Leo thread:
Positively confirmed TO WORK for the Blackstone
using HSPL Olinex - now confirmed to work with USPL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6024181&postcount=30
Using Windows Vista 32bit
Video Guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE2oFcNmn7I
step1 - make sure you have HSPL Olinex in your device
step2 - create folder and place here the Task 29 .exe file and the Radio .nbh file
(the nbh file could be anything related to the Blackstone ie., splash screen)
step3 - create another folder and place here your chosen custom ROM.
step4 - enter bootloader, connect via usb, then from the first folder double click task 29 .exe follow prompts.
step5 - phone will reboot but will get stuck in "smart mobility" screen, it CANT pass beyond this
as the phone has NO ROM on it, the drive partition where the ROM resides has been formatted
by Task 29.
Step6 - remove battery to reset, enter bootloader, then from the second folder, flash your custom ROM
Using Windows XP
1. make a folder and put together task 29 and the .nbh file of Dutty
3.9xt (could be any ROM nbh or any Radio nbh or a splash screen nbh)
2. connect phone (using XP) then run task 29 exe file
3. when it finished (a long time) it booted but without the red numbers and
words on the lower right hand side - this is a confirmation that the device
has been formatted
4. make another folder with two files (ex., DUtty 3.9XT .nbh file and the RUU)
5. enter bootloader, connect via usb then run RUU (HSPL Olinex already installed previously) your chosen custom ROM will now be flashed[/B][/SIZE]
for anyone experiencing "invalid device ID", use an official .nbh ROM file
(extract the .nbh file from an official stock ROM) and use this together
in the same folder with Task 29 .exe file (process will take longer. . .)
Using Windows 7 by tin 2404
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6052296&postcount=60
Using Windows 7 64bit by corwin_de_amber
1. Reboot PC and press F8 when reboot starts
2. Choose in boot menu ""Disable digital signature enforcement"
3. After reboot connect HD to PC via usb and wait for Sync Center to connect
4. Run task29.exe from here for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ghlight=task29
5. Perform all the steps of task29 (next>next>...)
6. When HD get stuck on HTC screen remove and insert the battery.
7. Flash your ROM as usual. If you want to flash from the card copy blacimg.nbh of ROM to the card before you start task29.

2. connected phone (using XP) then run task 29 exe file
3. when it finished (a long time) it booted but without the red numbers and
words on the lower right hand side - this is a confirmation that the device
has been formatted
4. made another folder with two files (DUtty 3.9XT .nbh file and the RUU)
5. run RUU (HSPL Olinex already installed previously) and the whole thing
worked
here is the Task 29 .exe file (use the first one, NOT ShaDrac's)

after running task29, do we have to reinstall the Hardspl or can we flash the rom we want straight away?

The download link appears to be invalid. Please re-post the link.

i did not say this, tbh am not familiar with mtty, but my guess is Task 29 is less complicated than mtty

jigners, have you tried this using a splash screen.nbh file in place of the radio or rom file. That should speed up the process without having to install a rom only to remove it again with Task29 and then have to re-install the rom.

Great, let me know how it goes.
I'm sure this will be a hit here if it works as it certainly cuts down on the time taken to reflash to stock and then cooked. I run the Task29 now before every flash and on the HD2, the whole process Task29 and rom flash takes only 5 minutes.

Can't argue there, sorry bro
A question:
If I use the ShaDrac RePack version (as for I understand), when I launch the exe (without any .NBH in the same folder) it only perform a format of the memory and the PPC restart in white screen (no more ROM in...).
At this point, can I simply restart the HD in bootloader mode and flash my favorite ROM via microSD ?
I definetly prefer this way to flash ROMs
Thanks, Marco.
