well, i am no dev, but i would like to say thank you in advance, haha. can't wait to get this phone and then root it. i am glad to hear that there is good interest in this phone. i pre ordered mine as well and can not wait! been without a smartphone for a couple months. sold my tp2 in prep for something better coming out. it was a long wait but i am sure it will be worth it.
i wish you and all who work on this project the best, and most speedy, of luck. thanks again

Will definetly check this thread out when the Incredible drops. I will go and test it out on the 29th, and most likely buy it, got an update on one of my lines.
would like to see nexus one 3d photo gallery in your rom which would be nice. I also can't wait for free wifi tethering.
Hoping you folks smarter than me are able to find root quick
I have created a custom recovery.img from Ama_ra's source, so if fastboot is unlocked then we can just flash the recovery.img via fastboot and flash a custom ROM.
I used the xmoo shipped ROM for the images.
but if its not unlocked then we can try fastboot oem unlock and see if it unlocks the bootloader, but this will 100% void your warranty.
I have also created an update.zip but the shipped ROM might be newer than the leaked images from (xmoo)
Should be rooted allready...... so there may not be a need for this thread.

I've already tried fastboot oem unlock on the Incredible and it doesn't work. Hardware similarities aside, rooting the device won't be as easy as the Nexus One.

The root for the desire and legend has not been released yet, sooooo as soon as Paul releases it, the same way should work for the inc. Just hold on tight, it should not be too much longer.

But even if Paul does get it.....I will still be hosting a Kitchen I have working on here as well as ROMs down the road....
Hope to see your stuff to Binny1007

I'm not a developer by any means, but I'm always willing to test pretty much anything. I've been keeping a close eye on this phone for a few months now and pre-ordered on the 19th, just checked the order status page on VZW and it says "Your order has been processed. You should receive your order within 2 - 3 business days." Man, I cannot wait to get my hands on this bad boy!

Which is why I'm getting the best buy maintenance program. They have no deductible and you can change your phone out as often as you like. . Walk in get another one and leave. I do believe that they will start using refurbs when they become available if they have them at the store you visit.

Hi. I'd like to announce you that I'll try to port CM7 to Arc.
I need some people to test it too as I don't have Arc.
It'll be system.img flashable via fastboot. So, ANYONE?
Of course that you need unlocked bootloader because there's no other way of flashing system.img file except fastboot!
Note: be prepared to most probably lose all data to ensure that CM7 will run on clean system (to avoid any additional bugs).
Brick recovery:
If CM7 system.img ever bricks your phone, simply connect it to the fastboot and flash Bin4ry's rooted system.img (easiest way), or reflash with FlashTool.
Some kind of global EULA. Breaking these terms will reflect as stopping releasing progress to the public on some time.
*Do not remind me about posting my progress. I know that I have to post progress when there will be any, I'm not stupid.
*Do NOT ask me to switch to 2.3.4 CM7 because there are only nightly builds for a few devices.
*Do NOT mirror my files once they appear. Reasons:
1) With no mirrors I can keep track of download counter.
2) With no mirrors I ensure that all people download latest release, not some outdated file from mirror.
3) Mediafire is FREE and it has NO DOWNLOAD WAITING.
Everything I publish will be in this Mediafire folder. Again, don't mirror.
Update - 16th May: I have plans to make a custom kernel too. Wait for further info
Update - June 2011: Jerpelea has taken over CM7 development for Arc. FreeXperia project expanded to Xperia Arc and Play. Play will be maintained by me. Arc project closed - thread closed.

I've already unlocked the bootloader.
And rooted via Bin4ry's method.
I'm working 12.00-16.00 (BST) tomorrow, then off 'til 12.00 (BST) on Wednesday, so I should be around quite a bit over the next few days.

Sounds fine to me.
I'll spend this evening getting my Defy ready to use again, just in case...
I'll be happy to test - I can also help with debugging and possibly porting too (no actual dev experience, but do have the ability to read and understand things, and have plenty of linux experience). I'll be able to test over the next 3 weeks, but I do have university exams, and they take priority obviously. Once those 3 weeks are over I'll have lots of spare time for a couple of months, so can help properly then! My phone is sim and bootloader unlocked, but not rooted at the moment.
Obviously, this is my main phone, so just for clarity, not doing anything that ca affect the ability of the phone to go into fastboot mode, correct?

Worst thing that can happen is that you'll have to reflash rooted system.img by Bin4ry. But better safe than sorry

I know there shouldn't be any risk, it'd just be simpler for me to have a fully functional phone to use while the Arc is being tinkered with.

Yes, if that's acceptable for you to have Arc for testing only, then cool!
It's always better to have backup phone so you have time to fix another one.
In that case, I think I'll buy myself a cheap £10 payg phone from the local supermarket, just in case - I can stick my current SIM in it while developing/testing.
I hope you both are ready for the data loss. It's necessary, to ensure that ROM will run on clean phone and avoid any bugs possible due to installed application and user settings.
I have Titanium Backup, I'll be fine
edit: to be honest, so long as I don't lose my text messages, which I back up regularly anyway, I don't really care about the rest.
I don't use my Arc for music, I have a proper Walkman for that. I basically haven't used the Arc's camera because it's a long time since I last had a phone with a good camera, so I'm unused to it now and I can always re-download apps...
Good luck guys nice to see a bit of community co-operation, hope all goes well
I shall follow the goings on with anticipation

Scoured all the D4 forums for a forum like this but could not find anything. I have come to find that since Motorola was taken over or purchased by Google that the bootloaders of Motorola devices are beginning to get unlock codes to unlock the bootloaders. Has anybody had any success using fastboot on their D4 to get the device ID from it? I personally have tried this with my D4 and it was unsucessful. I have posted the site for the info as to how to unlock bootloaders, unfortunately not all devices will be able to be unlocked though. I also was wondering if any devs are looking into Jellybean for our D4's or CyanogenMod 10 releases for it? I know there are unofficial CyanogenMod 10 releases for the Droid Razr already but havent seen much else yet. Any help towards these future developments would be greatly appreciated and I figured that this thread should probably be put into the Droid 4 Android Development Section as it is a Dev subject. If anybody thinks this thread should be posted elsewhere please let me know. Thanks!
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
Here was an example of how to find your device ID:
DEVICE ID AND UNLOCK KEY
To unlock your device, you need to retrieve your device ID and obtain an unlock code.
I. Retrieving your device ID
Put your device in fastboot mode (Power+Vol Down) and connect over USB
Open a command prompt or Terminal session
Go to the Directory where you installed the Android SDK tools, and type: $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data This fastboot command will return a character string. This is the Device ID which you will be using to generate your unique unlock key. $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
(bootloader) 0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230
(bootloader) 30373731363031303332323239#BD00
(bootloader) 8A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F95
(bootloader) 1A3E5#1F53280002000000000000000
(bootloader) 0000000
OKAY
[0.297s]
To generate your unlock code, you’ll need to paste together the 5 lines of output into one contnuous string without "(bootloader)" or white spaces.. Using the example above, the line you’d send us would be:0A40040192024205#4C4D355631323030373731363031303332323239#BD008A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F951A3E5#1F532800020000000000000000000000

So you want to unlock the bootloader to have CM10? You don't need to unlock the bootloader... Root it, install Safestrap, select "Install Recovery" inside Safestrap, reboot, open Safestrap, switch to safe mode and then flash your CM10.. Download of CM10:
http://dl.hash-of-codes.com/ROMs/maserati/
After that don't forget to flash the Google Apps (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip)
But please note - this is an early alpha preview. It may have huge bugs. At the moment the keys for menu/back/home/search are not working.
Any Jellybean for our D4's?
Negative,I was simply wondering if we would be able to unlock the bootloaders of our D4's. I dont want to try CM10 yet because I've only seen copies of it for the Razr. I know about safestrap and all that and how to flash ROM's,I was just wondering if and when we can expect to see some work being done on CM10 and or Jellybean for our D4's.

Nor can I. Horrible experience to go back to once you've become used to the tactile keys.
While my GB experience is fine on D4, I'm hoping that ICS or JB will clear up a few issues with my phone. Hopefully a sound method for moving to the next version while remaining rooted will come along. I'm so sick of switching to 3G from 4G only to have to dial out to a number in order to get internet connectivity.
My only concern would be the loss of tethering, which I've gotten into the habit of using as my home internet.

Doubt it will do any good but I've been going to the page every few days and clicking "no" on the link at the bottom of the page asking if the info was helpful. Then I leave feedback comments like "unlock the DROID 4" or "Unlock all your phones, quit disrespecting your customers like this"
Won't likely do any good but can't hurt either. Maybe if they get enough feedback like that the program will expand, show them there is a serious demand for the program.

I just left a message as well. Anything is better than nothing at this point. In my opinion, phones like the DROID4 are flagship devices that deserve the same treatment as the RAZR line.

Question
only other phone I had was the D1..can't stand not having hard keys...anyways I am currently running the ics OTA update after using the gb tool to flash back the original files so I could receive it. I updated by going to settings and it updated automaticly then I rooted. I am hesitant to try different roms because I have to install safestrap, then install a second system. will unlocking the bootloader make it so we just install clockwork recovery and be able to simply back up our system with nandroid then flash our roms via update.zip like the good-old days? I would like that very much!

Hey Guys.. I Created this thread for discussing S-OFF for our Desire C (obviously) ... Recently I contacted HTC Devs and here what they say ...
Dear Reinel Caluag,
Thanks for contacting HTC Philippines
we appreciate your continuous attentions with our products and services. We understand that you wanted to have an S off for your HTC Desire C.
For us to easily solve the issue, we would like to get the exact make and model of the handset. And it would be best if you could provide to us the IMEI or the serial number of your phone for proper documentation of your account with us. You may usually get the IMEI on the sticker at the back of the handset or by dialing *#06# on your phone’s dialer.
Regarding the concern, as we gathered some information, S-on or security on is a feature on our device where the system software of the handset is protected. For this, since you mentioned that you've already unlocked the bootloader of the handset and you still have S-On, we will raise this concern to our management for us to know how you can get S-off. For the meantime, please do expect another email response about updates and resolution for the said concern.
Please let us know if this information was able to help you. If not, kindly inform us the issues you have encountered. Should you need further assistance, you may give us a call at 1800-14410789 for PLDT or 1800-89086588 for Globe. You may provide your customer ID number “ for us to easily pull up your account. And our business hours are from Mondays to Sundays, 8:00AM to 8:00PM.
On the other hand, if we have successfully answered all of your concerns, you may close the ticket by accessing the links provided as well as for proper documentation of your account with us.
Once the ticket is closed, you will be receiving an invite for a survey. We would greatly appreciate if you can participate on a quick survey regarding how we were able to assist you with your concern.
Thank you for making business with us. Have a nice day!
If this answers your comment or question, please click here to complete the process.

Excuse my noobishness, but I don't really see the point behind getting s-off for our phone. I understand it will enable us to flash kernels from recovery mode itself and we can flash radio images to our phone (which I think is risky and i would never try that). And we can flash a different bootloader. But with it comes great security risks, and the possibility to actually hard brick our phones. So given a choice, I would still opt for S-on. Flashing kernels through fastboot is not that much of a problem, it hardly takes any time. Is there something I'm missing regarding S-off?

yeah ... !!
My turn to state an opinion. IMHO dual booting is a bad idea. It takes up more space than it should. The only benefit i see from it is as a test enviorment.
Like have your main rom setup, and then flash test builds of other roms alongside it. But that is the only benefit.
Isn't different bootloaders device specific? If so who will be the advanced dev guy that will port/build them for us?
Im supporting s-off, but highly hesitant whether it will be of much use on a such low end device.

its like when we send a huge amount of emails with no answer
They leave their old phones and take care of new ones

I just want S-OFF the change the ugly splash screen to something nicer and ofcourse for flashing kernels from recovery!

I am not sure about Dual boot.
becuse pico doesn't have S-off but a dual boot
I think they have s-off .. coz dual boot needs s-off because dual boot flash kernels through recovery... while us on fastboot

I agree with noahvt about changing splash screen and its so annoying having to turn on my PC to change kernel and we need to get a full touch cwm not twrp like 6.0.3.5

YAH! I KNOW!! Just do What we want -_-
Dear Reinel Caluag,
Thanks for contacting HTC Philippines
Thank you for the information that you have provided. Regarding the concern, as we've checked our resources, we found out that we don't need to turn the security off to accomplish the basic installation of custom ROM. Security on by default is good for some reasons, it protects the system software configuration such as radio, boot, recovery and system. However, once you've unlocked the bootloader of the handset, you will have lifted the restrictions of the handset and you have the means to customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. For this, we are sorry to say that our management did not give the exact information on how to turn the security off. But as for coordination, normally, once you've unlocked the bootloader of the handset it will automatically have S-Off and developers would easily access or toggle the options on the phone specifically with Security off and on.
If this answers your comment or question, please click here to complete the process.

EDIT: for my asus transformer it was so easy just unlock the bootloader and i was flashing a new bootloader immediately after that why does HTC have to make it this hard :\

I'm wondering what the process for the Pixel devices is, and if anyone has had any success with existing tools/SuperSU.
It's running 7.1 if that's relevant.

You'll first need to unlock the bootloader and then wait for chainfire's magic. It is possible to root through fastboot also so there is a good chance that you'll get root before a custom recovery.
Due to seamless updates, things have changed a bit so it'll take some time to be figured out

This is the first device with Android's new partition layout. Having looked at the firmwares and at running devices (remotely), I have some ideas on how to do it.
However, it will be a while before I have SuperSU fixed up. The changes will be quite a bit of work and testing, and doing so remotely will make that take significantly longer. So I'm just going to wait for my own device, but as they aren't available in my country, it has to be shipped from another country and go through customs. I don't expect my device to arrive for another week or two.
In the meantime, it's always possible someone else releases root for it.
I saw @jcase and @Dees_Troy have been playing with TWRP, to me it seems wholly possible to fix that up (mostly) as well. But even if TWRP is released tomorrow, using the existing SuperSU ZIP will not work on it, due to all the breaking changes in Android 7.1.
Will be interesting if you can do it CF... Looking forward to release - Ill send a donation your way when done

If your intent was truly altruistic, you wouldn't feel the "burden" of stating it publicly. So no, it doesn't matter.

Appreciate all you do Chainfire, seriously. Can't wait for you to work your magic
Ah its so funny to what people write after all these years of people spending their own time to work out back doors and exploits to enable root / Xposed / Custom bootloaders / Kernels / Recoveries.
People can't just wait and see and if the devs ask for help or testers just be part of it, throwing a few dollars at them is not going to push things forward . . . let them do what they want to do its their project / baby and it will happen when it does.
Support the devs after the fact dont try and attempt to influence them into it with beer money.
Some of y'all are ridiculous! The guy made a harmless statement and didn't mean anything negative by it. And what do all of the analytical geekers do? Just that... Analyze his comment to the bone and find all sorts of self-serving intent within it. Blows my mind...

Oh shut up. What a stupid thing to say. People are excited about dev work, and if they suggest a donation, what do you care? Why is it any of your business? If the dev has a problem with people providing positive feedback and offering donations, they will make it known.

Hey I've unlocked my bootloader, but with the different partition layout and file based encryption (assuming this device uses that), is there any chance I'll have to erase my data and start over for root?
Because I got the 128GB model and I'm ready to start filling up with apps and keep a big portion of my Google Play music library to save on data and everything but I don't want to do it if there's a real possibility I'll have to erase everything if to achieve root.
I guess it is possible to use a custom recovery (once they come out) to backup, but that'll be a huge backup if I start keeping all my music to the device.

What ever but tour the same guys who's going to be asking for OTAs and asking devs to do this that and the other as fast as humanly possible.
If you want it that bad do it your self or sit and wait like a good little child.
No dev is going to rush something because of some people in a forum get a grip, like I said it's their time and it will be ready when it's ready.
You might think I'm going off on one but read the rules page for Christ's sakes.

The chance you'll have to erase is always present when rooting. Even when your device is fully prepared something may go wrong. At least you have already unlocked your bootloader, which reduces that chance.
File-based encryption will probably not be a reason to for wiping, though. It works fine in the dev version of SuperSU with Android 7.0 on a 5X.

twrp exploit found waiting on official release. this is a ls991 sprint varient. exploit may and should work on all devices.
i am one of orig alpha testers and great thanks to the man it should hopefully be fully working and ready for mass production soon
if u want to check progress look and thank here but please guys for the love of it no spamming the man he and his time are a great addition to the lg community and myself and everyone here can and should respect that remeber no eta or will u's politly ask and have a great day xda
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/locked-twrpinfish-locked-g4-devices-t3573048 new link
prequisites so far
must be rooted means zv6 or lower zva or zv9 can be downgraded to zv6 one of the 2 not sure
and kernel must be set to permissive
on a lighter note i hate to rub it in but i got the first sprint g4 with twrp on it
no flashing yet but did make backups
come one every one wake up lol this is what weve been waitin for
so ive been up since like 2 or 3 am and steadfasterx was kind enough to take the time do a good team viewer made a few mods
and technicly released a second alpha or first beta whichever twrp now persists through reboots and is permantly on my device
viper 4 android offic flashed with twrp beta for locked bls
You know im not one to complain very much. But i am quite upset with the sprint g4 community. I risk my device for the sake of the fun. And not even one thanks. 76 views and nothing. Did any of you ever think that now that this has happen mm will be next mm roms prerooted for twrp.
I make post after post to keep theis device alive and keep people updated. But nothing from the community. Im not asking for money or a place to stay. Just a simple thanks.
3 days after purchasing my device. I tear it apart to do a thermal paste mod which has clearly worked so far. Somethin like 2400 views. And i think 1 thanks
Just proves how demanding the world is this day in age but dont expect to help in return.
Again a thanks goes a long way
And so every one knows the beta 3 has been released went from a alpha to beta 3 in one day. Thats fricking amazing
This is great news, hope it leads to more.

This is great news especially after the past...What was it? Three developers claiming to have unlocked the bootloader? If only I was a Dev then I could rack my brain and try to figure out how to beat anti-rollback to get back to lollipop.

The bootloader is still locked. This method hijacks the ramdisk and installs twrp somwhere else. Still have stock recovery too. Which i guess is cool never had 2 recovs at same time before
Like i said earlier no go on flashing anything modified on boot and recov partitions. Still secure boot errors. I wish i had a mm stock kernel zvd id see if i could flash and then restore zv6 twrp.
Has worked in past.
Either way man gets a prize. Hes is working on booting efidroid to multi boot which leaves to install anything ontop of orig kernal unmodified. So still wip but opens the door for rr cm anything through efidroid and dual boot.
Just want to say thanks to the community for there hard work it's very much appreciated. Also I had a question, I have a lg g4 sprint version I'm on zvb mellow mallow, can it be downgraded for me to install the hack?

Unfort no. Zva and lower. Untill we find a way to beat qfusing. Which 1 day ofcoarse. No avail yet.
I might try this hex edit software and see if i can modify the antirollback qfuse. Either get all firms to say same as zvb c d or e. Dont get hhopes up yet.
But hopfully got a few theories. Ima start with zv5. Cause im not getting stuck if fail on zvb or higher
Wow this is really great news for ZV6 users! Hopefully the qfuse on the LS991 isn't un-exploitable like KNOX or something... It would be amazing if Octoplus box could actually do something about the horrible anti-rollback. Thanks for the great news!

Well i ordered one a week ago. Ima find out. Some claims say it can with jtag. Ive been reading loads of hex edits seeing if i can edit a zv5 boot image to think its got a zv6 qfuse. But no luck yet. Ive been sick all week so far and runnin on about 7 or 8 hours of sleep since monday. So im pretty out of it. Lol.
Aint no smoke or no drink compare to sleep deprivation i thought i was seeing stuff last night. Which i know is possible. Ive been catchin a hour here and there. Everyones been passin around the flu and of coarse im always the last to catch it.
With twrp. Just downgrading boot image to zv5 isnt enough. Im not attempting a higher boot image yet. Im not getting stuck on a unrootable firmware.
4th test release released today with updated twrp version rc1 op thinks 1 more test realease before going public

Yeah, for those on ZVB+, hopefully this work will lead to a better understanding of LGs anti-rollback feature and allow it to be circumvented.
