Check your proxy settings. I had the same problem after flashing 5.06. Could not get the browser to work when connected to wifi. I had some strange 10.0.0.* address under proxy settings. No idea where it came from.

try disable and enable wifi twice or 3 times

I had the same problem described above. Then I disabled the proxy and it worked. In my case the proxy IP and port automatically came from my data APN profile which I was using at that time.

i can confirm that disabling proxy works.thank you for the info!

How can I get vpn working?

Any ideas on how I can get vpn working? I am trying to connect to VyprVpn. The Note says it has connected but nothing works. I.e. I try to go to a web site but it won't load.
My laptop and my Acer Iconia all work fine with the same settings.
I think it's a problem with Android as my S II had the same issue. However if any one has any suggestions...
I am having the same problem. I connect to the VPN and it has the key and says connected. no data will work while it is connect. My IT guy says it is connected buy no data is going in or out. I try to connect to my RDT and it times out. Settings work fine on the iPhone and iPad.
+1 I have the same problem on both S1 and note.
Any ideas?????
Success, use l2tp
Following another post, I got it working using these instructions for l2tp:

Still not working for me - did you connect over wifi?
l2tp works for me over wifi and mobile
Same problem here when trying to connect to my firm's VPN.
Works smooth over wifi but nothing on 3G (it says connected but I can't do anything). Just once it loaded half page.
Vodafone says is not their problem.
try this http://www.purevpn.com/tutorials.php
I'm facing the same issue connected to my OverPlay VPN, anyone managed to find a solution?
Use l2tp or upgrade to ICS.

Wi-Fi Hotspot 2.1.2116262123.83950 not working?

I have a custom ROM based on the official 2.3.5 ROM (3.12.405.1) and the HTC WiFi Hotspot application doesn't work. The app starts and wireless devices can associate with it and lease IP addresses via DHCP but they can't access the Internet. I think its a NAT problem in the application because I can resolve names from my PC as the phone is proxying the DNS lookups - i.e. open a command prompt on my PC and type 'nslookup www.google.com' and I get valid answers. If I try to access the Internet with the browser it fails.
I have downloaded android-wifi-tether and this works as long as the 'Routing Fix' is checked in the settings. I was hoping not to have to have this alternate WiFi Tether application and use the integrated one.
Just tested USB Tethering and the results are the same - i.e. PC gets an IP address and can resolve names but can't access the Internet. I assume this is something fundamental in the NAT/Routing being done by the phone?
Andy
Really weird... Sounds like your mobile data connection is down. (I'm sure you already checked that)
Flash some other ROM with same base and try.

I can access the Internet on the phone when its running so I know there is connectivity. As I say I think its something fundamental with the NAT/routing on the phone - I am not sure how to debug it further?
Andy
I am not sure why but this fixed it for me:
http://androidforums.com/1734672-post32.html
I assume with Orange the WiFi Hotspot App uses this 'Consumer Broadband' connection and not the default 'Orange Internet' connection. I was tempted to delete the 'Consumer Broadband' APN and see what happens, a job for another day though as I need to use it at the moment.

[Q] wifi / hotspot not working

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out. the wifi and portable hotspot are not working. The wifi has not been detecting open or locked wifi networks. When I try to create a portable hotspot, the phone displays the word, Error. I have Tmobile and use T-zones for my internet. Currently I am still using the internet but it is being used via USB. I still have and use internet so its not that Tmobile cancelled my internet but its more like something is wrong with the actual phone parts or the software. I have tired flashing other roms but no luck. I am currently using Android 2.3.4 on cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC1-IncS and also has S-off. The phone is unlocked and rooted. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

APN settings
No idea if this will work for you but it did for me. I am on t-mobile(UK). Wifi and tethering were both working fine for me until I rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. After going through loads of different options, I noticed that the APN had somehow changed when I rooted. (Settings>Wireless&networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)
For me the correct APN (general.t-mobile.co.uk) became general.t-mobile.uk after I rooted for no known reason. Adding the 'co' resolved the issue and everything started working again.
I would suggest searching the internet for your network's APN settings and having a look at the settings on your IS.
Good luck.
I tried both and none worked. Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas anyone?
Any one know if there is a new wifi software update? That or a hotspots update but I think they might be the same.

[Q] Browser problem

Hey, I've actually refered to xda for a lot of my phone problems. But this is the first time i'm posting. If i break any rules I apologize before hand. If my question has been answered before please direct me to the page cause i've been searching for the answer for days and have yet to find it.
I'm using GT-1000T. My wifi had the problem of being stuck at Obtaining IP address.. So i used the static IP fix which works great. But the problem now that i have, is that my browser will only work when i'm connected to my home wifi. Every other program whether whatsapp or google play or anything that require network can work when i use public wifi or use 3G.. only my browser wont..
For example when I'm on the move, and i'm connect to 3G, everything work except for browser. I can download thing from google play but when open browser to use, it'll say unable to load. Please check whether phone connect to internet and stuff like that. But i am actually connected because everything else runs! I thought maybe it was just stock browser problem. So i downloaded dolphin browser, and it wont load either! So i thought maybe my 3G wasn't good enough. Went to a public wifi spot. and everything works except the browser again. Only when i went home and connect to my home wifi can my browser actually work..
Can anyone help please?
No one can help with this?

No one had the same problem.
Be methodical. Since this happened after you out static IP,
can you change the wifi setting back to auto.
Will the browser and whatsapp and other work in 3G again?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Try Boat Browser or any other browser from play
I tried putting back to auto IP.. my wifi can't connect and my browsers won't work with 3g still.. I tried using boat browser as well as several other browsers but all had the same effect.. Everything else like whatsapp viber and stuff like that works fine whether wireless or 3G..
Any other suggestions?
I guess my problem is a weird one..

Have you ever installed anything that will hijack http connection or doing some proxying.
To me you are better off backing up everything and reset to factory default, then slowly put back what is needed.
But then you may be not rooted yet, so you can't use Titanium Backup?
Edit, actually I have questions, just for curiosity, please confirms each points
1) at first everything works fine, including browser, via 3G and wifi
2) one day your wifi just don't give you dynamic IP
3) you change the wifi setting to static IP
4) from then on, everything works ok at home. But outside home, browser (public wifi or 3g, same)
5) you revert back to dynamic IP, it didn't go back to like before you change it. Now browser doesn't work on 3G, and at home you cannot get dynamic IP.
does sounds like somehow corrupted TCP/IP stack.
I dun think I have any programs which hijacks http or does proxy.. what kind of app would do that? My device is rooted..
Points 1 - 3 is corrrect.. but after I switched to static, everything still works fine using home wifi. But outside, whether using other wifi or 3G, everything works fine except browsers..
When I switch off static IP, wifi is out the window. Can't connect to any wifi at all.. everything works fine using 3G except browser.. in other word, my browser will work only if I'm connected to my wifi and nothing else..
I thought of hard resetting.. but was trying to find other solution before I resort to that..
By the way, thanks for all the responses so far.. I really appreciate it..
Cheers!

hi
I think the answer for your problem isn't in the ip adresse, you need a custom DNS, use Google dns
dns 1 :8.8.8.8
dns 2 :8.8.4.4
or open dns
dns 1:208.67.222.222
dns 2:208.67.220.220
how to use dns? its easy, just put those numbers in the right place when configuring a static ip adresse.

But when I use static IP my DNS is set to Google's DNS already.. I'll try the second set of DNS and see how it goes.. thanks!
Sent from my GT-P1000T using xda premium
Hmm.. the second set of IP does not work for me.. sigh.. it's beginning to look as if hard reset is the only thing I can do..
Sent from my GT-P1000T using xda premium
am sorry mate, for this kind of problems, custom dns is the answer, at least in my experience (had the same thing on my computer where msn and Skype works but the browser doesn't)
i hope you'll find a solution before the hard reset
best regards
Sifou

Damn it.. I hard reset and it didn't fix anything!!! What can I do??
Sent from my GT-P1000T using xda premium
Since you are rooted, there is an off chance that something has made modification to the operating system.
Hard reset only reset the data part.
You may need to reflash stock firmware with repartition using Odin.
The best way may be using overcome method, link is at my signature.
I am sure you have heard of it.
You will need your Telstra baseband again.
Can you note down your current baseband?

Wi-Fi problem after 4.4.2 update. [solved]

Hi guys, this morning I received the notification that an update was ready (4.4.2 update, I live in Italy but my One is from Norway). Well, just ended the update, and since that moment, I' m not able to connect to any Wi-Fi network, even if from favorites. It founds networks, says connection in progress, and then nothing. Has anyone founded this kind of problem?

Just solved, the problem was the Wi-Fi protection. It seems to not connect on router with Wep, in Wpa everything works like a charm.

Yep, alot of firmware versions do have issues with WEP encrypted WiFi networks.
WPA is the way to go.

Good to know. I never knew about this problem...
Tried again with my router (Netgear DG834G v3), and my One won't connect in Wep neither in wpa. This morning i have tried with another router (an HTC One used like hotspot) and it was ok.
Now I've tried with that other router in wep, and it connects too. Before the update everything was ok with the netgear...someone can help me?

I am also having problems connecting to a Netgear router with WPA security after the update to 4.4.2 (ARHD 51), anybody have an idea what could be causing it? I could connect fine before upgrading to 4.4.2
You try this:
Change the device name under Bluetooth, restart device and connect to WiFi router again.
Sorry guys, I found solution 3 days ago, but didn't post it thinking I was the only with this problem. To solve it, go in settings, Wi-Fi, click on three dots up on the right, advanced and then mark the last voice in the menu (in italian I nave "IP automatico DLNA", and I think in english is " IP automatic DLNA"). It turn works in Wep, wpa, wpa2...everything)

Hey there,
I seem to having the same problem. After updating my HTC one to android 4.4.2 I cannot connect to my WIFI anymore. The wifi is connecting and then nothing happens anymore. Can anybody help me with this
Thank you!
1. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> disable the password required.
2. connect to your home WiFi from your device, see if connected (hope it does)
3. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> enable password required (WPA/2)
4. connect to your home WiFi from your device with the new password.
It works for me, hope i helped.
To fix wi-fi problem on 4.4.2 android you have to rename Wi-fi Direct device name.
To do that you have to go:
WiFi - then 3 dots - WiFi Direct - 3 dots - Rename Device - HTC One.

IT WORKS FOR ME!! I just had to register here to say thanks, but this really works for me. Was using my room wifi running WEP, after a 300+mb 4.4.2 update to my HTC One, it just kept hopping between scanning and connecting and scanning.....was frustrated with it. I tried with another router, running WEP too and going out the same internet pipeline and it worked, just not my room router.
tried manually inputting mac address at my room router but didn't work, turn off/on multiple times but nope, was wondering if router problem or phone problem.
but then i change the displayed device name from Android_524b to HTC One case sensitive and voilah, it immediately worked, pick up the nice beloved wireless signal on the notice bar, and everything back to normal.....
no hard reset, no router re programming, no tearing the whole house to reprogram every darn piece of equipment. thank you so much
(btw, my router is a super old netgear g connection 2.4ghz adsl modem router. tried the frequency band changing to 2.4ghz but had no effect earlier)
