Does the Nexus One/Android have alternative User Interfaces - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there are any alternative User Interfaces for the Nexus One...I have searched for User Interface/User Interfaces/ Launcher etc... and I have found nothing but themes nothing which changes the user interface such as windows mobile has SPB shell, titanium and others which I do not remember the name of...
Edit/Update:
These have been mentioned throughout this thread or found through other methods:
home++
gde
panda home
dxTop
Open Home
Sweeter Home

search for home++ or gde.

I also heard about 'panda home' ? someone mentioned it on youtube...
Others I recently heard about: dxTop, aHome, Open Home, Sweeter Home
I think I will incorporate them into the OP for people with the same question to be able to see them without scrolling through the whole discussion.... I will do that later though...

SPB Mobile Shell 5 is coming to android later this year if I remember correctly, so there you will have another alternative as well

All Home Replacement apps!

I think its time we come up with a comprehensive list of all home replacement apps. I will do my best here but if I miss something please add it as well.
Zeam,
DXtop,
Helix Launcher,
Helix Launcher 2,
Pro Launcher
Ahome,
Ahome Mini
Open Home,
Home++
Crazy Home
Sweeter Home
Better Home
Tag Home
PandaHero
NexusHome
Live! Home

A nice app to manage all of these home replacements is Home Switcher.
I don't have a time to write a summary of each app but I may in the near future.

I personally like Zeam the best.
Slidescreen is nice eye candy, but it's bloated and slow as molasses, even with the speediest roms out there.
Home++ is nice and efficient.
I personally like LauncherPro or Anderweb's Launcher.
By request I've added a poll.

Isn't that just a ripoff of GDE with none of the cool features? That's how it looked when I downloaded it.
Since the last update, GDE is miles ahead of anything else imo.
What is Pro Launcher? I have only heard of LauncherPro
Let's get some screen shots up!
I was predominantly using Launcher Pro, but after trying GDE I cannot see myself using anything else. Just brilliant!

GDE
GDE has the best themes its fast and dose not consume to much cpu it also has awesome transitions
Really like Zeam for it's simplicity right now. Double tap anywhere to preview all homescreens makes navigation from app to app pretty damn quick as well using widgets. It's pretty much the biggest reason I've moved up to Froyo again after all the slowdowns and instabilities I was having.
Running Biffmod 2.1 with 2708+. No swap and CC at 18%, CPU at 245/528 and JIT on. Linpack report 3.6MFlops. With messaging and home locked in memory the phone feels snappy enough that I'm not obscenely jealous of all my friends with Snapdragon and Hummingbird procs.
You guys missed Zune home or what it became Faded home. Its kinda like a windows phone 7 zune type interface.
Go Launcher
Please add Go Launcher to the list!
Also, Pro Launcher is actually Launcher Pro in the Android Market.
ADW EX
EX meaning EX-lax for your home screen. It really greases up the works. Fast, fancy, freakin-sexy!!!

Can we get market links in the OP for these? Or maybe QR codes? If you are willing to add them, after work, I'll get the QR codes for the ones listed. :-D

Home replacement

I use SPB Shell as my home replacement. My problem is I cant set the stock home app as default. When I hit the home button it always goes to SPB Shell even when I have the stock home app set to default and have cleared SPB Shell as the default. I use the Home switcher app from the market and set the stock app as the default. When I clear the default on SPB Shell and hit the home button the stock home app doesnt even show up as an option. Is anyone else having this issue and does any one know of a fix?
The same thing happened for me with launcherpro to go back to stock i had to uninstall LP. I actually like the stock launcher better for the first time ever than LP.
It may be just me, but my screen looks much more vibrant when using SPB Shell. The colors actually look sharper. I have shown it to others and they think the same also.

First off for what SPB Shell 3D costs of course I'm going to install it, for principal if nothing else. I do however really like it. Secondly I want the option and ability to switch between home replacements if I want to.
has anyone using other launchers like launcher pro go launcher or adw, tried to freeze the stock launcher. i know that most roms come with a market launcher already loaded and therefore there is no stock launcher.
So any ideas if running a market launcher, that freezing the stock launcher would be ok or not
any ideas

[REQUEST] App Drawer as Desktop?

does anyone know a way of setting my 4x5 App drawer from ADW or LauncherPro as my desktop screen, doing away with the home-screens entirely, but not horizontally like in MIUI?
Not entirely sure but possibly you could look for an app drawer app in the market, rename it to Launcher2.apk, and replace it in /system/app/ directory.
Of course, nandroid first!

LOL! So true. If you want something like that just get an iPhone. Or even an iPhone Launcher on the market.
The best thing on Android is, that you can customize almost everything. So why he should buy iPhone where he can customize nothing?
I guess it is not bad idea to have home launcher like this. Though I won't probably not used it, because I am satisfied with stock ICS launcher for now.

We're kind of teasing him lol. Having the app drawer as the launcher would look just like an iPhone (just rows of apps icons). So we were saying if he wanted that he should just get an iPhone. If you really desperately want your homescreen like that drag all of your apps out of the drawer and put them on a homescreen. Problem solved?

Because he obviously doesn't want to customize the phone different from an iPhone. And if he was to try and put an iOS theme on there. Then why not just get what your trying so hard to resemble.

He wants to have launcher to scroll verticaly while iPhone launcher scroll horizontaly so I don't see your point at all. And the difference in Android vs. iPhone is just launcher? Nothing else?

[Q] Anyone using Themer?

I just saw this newly developed app, Themer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycolorscreen.themer&hl=en
Is anyone using it? How does it work? I guess the easiest solution is just to install it. But the waiting list is so long. I want to know if this app can install a homescreen theme without purchasing the apps that the original designers used. Thanks.
Looks like you can do the same stuff with exposed framework
Sent on my Moto X
yeah. I am using it. waiting for more themes. I check it every couple of days to see if I like any of them.
I'm not 100% sure what will happen if you get a theme that used widgets you don't have. The themes that come preinstalled use Themer widgets that come with the launcher so they work out of the box on any phone. One of the widgets is very powerful like uccw.
Sent from my Moto X.
Well, the waiting period was shortened. With this code "MSTRCD" I was able to use Themer...after five minutes, I decided to uninstall it for such reasons as: 1, not really customizable after I applied a theme. For instance, I cannot resize a widget. 2, There is no simple way to switch a default app if I change my mind later.
Themer indeed can do multiple homescreens. But again, it is hard to Create anything new.
So far, the major downside of Buzz is it consumes more rams than Themer.
If you are interested in using it now, I got the code from here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/10/10/grab-this-themer-beta-invite-code-good-for-40000-uses-and-help-mycolorscreen-test-its-beefed-up-servers/

I guess I am just trying to see the main difference between Themer and Buzz launcher. With Buzz, for the widgets to work, which I do not already have, I need to download them. Some recent screens on mycolorscreen require Zooper Widget that costs $2...and Buzz cannot yet do the overlapping widgets. I wonder Themer can actually solve all of them together and remain to be free.
Oh, forgot to ask one more question: the biggest thing with Buzz, for me at least, is to be able to have multiple wallpapers. Can Themer do various homescreens in case I like three or four screens?
Thanks guys for the input.

I bet most people that build themes will use the included widgets and other built-in features. You can have as many pages you want and can have different wallpapers for each of them. Have a look at this video about how to theme with Themer...

I've had it for about a week and I like it. Like said above , it needs more themes but that will most likely not be a problem when it is out of beta. And to the post above it is actually still very customizable. More that the stock launcher but not as much as something like nova. I am impressed by it and can't wait to see what they bring in the future.

Got a free code for Themer: TJMUH7. Enjoy
I tried it, but concluded that Themer is basically for the less experienced and the lazy users. The biggest problem with it is that it requires you to set it as your default launcher, which means that you lose all the useful features of nova launcher or whatever custom launcher you had before. No matter how simple it is to switch themes, the launcher is too important to the overall android experience to replace it.
With that said, if you take the time, you can port whatever full theme you like from mycolorscreen.com using the appropriate apps and get proper theming without replacing your launcher. Personally, themes are not a big deal because I feel like I will get bored of it very quickly. So I just stick with changing the wallpaper once a week and call it day.
Its a pretty cool app that makes theming your phone really easy by just selecting the theme, downloading it, then apply. It's kind of like the MIUI theme app but I think that was for just lock screens. There was a couple really neat themes I liked, I just couldnt sacrifice all of my nova launcher settings for this launcher. Plus having quick access to my most frequently used apps on the desktop was a must.

I agree. Why not make your own? There are some really nice features. The themer everything widget just like uccw but imo better implemented. You can easily, without another app, set different wallpapers for each page. I'm pretty optimistic that it will turn into a great launcher, possibly better than the competition.

They just removed this from the voting yesterday, maybe they are adding this in soon?
I ultimately stopped using themer for the time being due to lack of functionality with G+ and Hangouts. I really like the unread SMS and Email counter that you can add (like I did with my modified "Now" theme), but something similar should/could be added for G+, Hangouts and surely other things that people use (voice, skype, IRC...)
BTW, I have nothing to do with this app. I'm fighting my hardest to stay stock/unrooted with my Moto X and themer is pretty nice helper when I start to get bored.

Changing icons individually or as a pack, multiple docks, transition effects, size of icons can be changed, swipe action for individual icons, folders can be changed, several add ons suchs as unread counts, now comes the final question - did you use the pay or the free version. A lot of the really cool stuff is only available in a paid version and trust me it is lightning fast compared to touchwiz.
I'm using nova prime. I'm still learning, this is the first time I've ever used anything other than what was baked into whatever Rom I was using. My last phone was the s3 and Darth stalker had the Xperia launcher I think... I've been using touchwiz was the last month, I just didn't like the menu (app draw) key on the right side.

OP you may want to try "Go Launcher EX" its more user friendly in my opinion. I love it because the them options and whatnot with it are endless.
I seriously love Nova launcher it's always been my go to and I've tried quite a few. I wish it was possible to pin action memos as a widget though. It's not enough to get me to stop using Nova, but damn that would be perfect if it was possible.
