Hey, I'm on a plan with 100 free minutes and sms , all minutes/sms exceeding this inclusive ones are rather expensive..
Is there an app out who counts outgoing sms/minutes ? Or even better keeps track of them and alarm if more than xy/day/week/month are used? Maybe even a littel widget^^ (Something like netcounter but for sms+minutes would be perfekt + widget =P)
Else I'll have my little brother to do one.
if you're on TMO, the MyAccount app counts minutes and text messages. however, it doesnt have all the extra bells and whistles you're looking for (like the widget, alarms, etc).
not sure how you get by with only 100 minutes anyway. i'd use that up in less than a day. I highly recommend using GV or setting up sip.
The Counter alone would be nice to have for the moment.
I'm from Germany, so no GV and sip not allowed either I'm more than fine with 100Minutes+SMS , most of the time I just use Meebo or receive the long calls
The app should be provider independed. And at least do the following:
count number of upgoing sms/calls.
//EDIT
http://code.google.com/p/callmeter/ ! n1 =) Let's go for the widget ;>
Try an app called DroidStats, works like a charm for minutes and sms. Notifies you after set limits and you can set day of month to start counting from, in case you're not being billed from 1st of the month til 1st of next month (which is perfect as my monthly bill runs from 14th - 13th).

Hi everyone,
I want to give out an alert to whomever thinks of buying subscriptions out of the upgrade section of the HTC Locations app.
The subscription "Traffic information" is NOT working. At least you expect traffic information to light up on the map, like Google Navigation does. But it doesn't the only thing that mentions something about traffic is the "Car Panel" settings. But thats only about when it should update the traffic info. Thus making traffic information totally useless.
Yet another expectation is that it should reroute your route to avoid traffic jams with this. It fails to do this either.
So my conclusion is you're buying vaporware here.
Support on this product is unbelievably bad. There is NO manual in the HTC Desire HD, Nor does Route 66 deliver instructions on how to use this crap piece of software that they call premium navigation.
HTC Support POV:
"Sorry, the locations app is build by a third party than HTC, namely Route 66. Please contact them for support on this.".
I can confirm this because whatever you buy from the locations app is processed and credited from Route 66.
So I went and call Route 66:
"Sorry, but the application is provided by HTC on your phone. We have nothing to do with this. The order you say is processed by us isn't ours. Please contact HTC for support on your purchase. *Hangs up phone*"
So Route 66 doesn't want to refund my purchase, in which they obviously got paid by me.
So my advice:
Don't buy anything from this scam!
Good to know... but isn't there some kind of trial option?
Nope, there isn't anything.
You just hand over your money, and they not even thank you for that....

I believe that there is a trial-period of 30 days.
Which country are you from, maybe they just don't have traffic coverage in your country? Haven't checked if it states for which countries it should work.
The trial only is for the navigation itself, but not for the extra services like traffic info and speed cameras.
Any of you tested that?

Trial period of voice guided turn by turn navigation, not the speed cams (this one works unlike the traffic one) nor traffic information
Im from The Netherlands.

Why would you need to know info on the speed cams anyways? Wouldn't it be much easier to just follow the traffic rules like you're supposed to?

You don't want to get punished when you are in a traffic jam and are driving too slow. So when there's a speed cam, you take the emergency lane and pass the trafic jam with full speed.
Just a different interpretation of rules

Nah, I just wanted to test speed cams.
Anyone know if when the trial period expires does standard navigation kick in?

When the month worldwide trial period is over, the only thing that changes is that you don't have spoken directions anymore. The maps and soundless navigation stays free.
OK confusing situation here...
I got my first DHD on the 18th October and activated the trial for navigation on that day.
I returned that phone to the store 1 week later (25th Oct) and had it replaced with a new handset.
Last Wednesday (10th Nov) I actually needed to use the premium navigation, so assuming I was still in my 30 days trial (which I was) I went to use it. It had to search for my license and it took a few seconds, but it activated fine.
I decided that I'd try out the speed cameras and traffic to see if it was any good. I couldn't buy the traffic as I just got a blank page, but I went and bought 30 days of speed cameras. However, nothing appeared to download to the phone. I carried on anyway.
However, the cameras were not displayed. When I went through some average speed areas, it would bring up a red bar indicating I was in a speed controlled area, but it gave no indication to speed, distance, or anything!
I figured it had just not downloaded it, but when I went to check, it said my licence for both the Navigation and Cameras was due to expire on October 12th (before I even got my first handset!)
The Navigation was still working, but I didn't think the cameras were.
It's totally bizarre.
Indeed today, if I look at the "Upgrade" menu in the Locations app, at the very top it says:
Navigation
Worldwide
Expires 12/10/2010
Safety Cameras
United Kingdom and Ireland
Expires 12/10/2010
What's going on?!
Are you sure it's not US dates, they put the month before the day, so that date would be December 12th.

Just checked mine, it says 12/9, so I'm sure it's month then day
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Ok that might make some kind of sense, and would seem to suggest that the 30 day trial is linked to IMEI rather than a particular account.
Can anyone confirm how safety cameras are working for them? Can you see them on the map? Do you get alerted before going through them?

Registering 30 day trial?
Anyone else having problems with the 30 day trial than me and few other finns?
When starting to use the Premium Navigation its checking for licence and the shows installed maps, voices etc.
But when returning to navigation software gives a menu where are options to Buy, use a coupon or syncing licence.
Ive tried many times to sync the licence but there is no change to the navigation and it asks to buy etc. all the time.
I think the problem is same with Desire HD and Z here in Finland?
Other finns to comment this?

My brother is going to be upgrading to an android smartphone in february/march. I'm planning on moving him entirely to Google Voice to save on sms costs. For those of you with the same setup, have you found the 250mb plan to be adequate for GV plus email, some web browsing and app usage? He won't be doing any music or video streaming (except the occasional youtube video). Or have you found it necessary to upgrade to the 2gb plan? Thanks.

Been using for like 5 months before moving to 2GB. It works flawless, and well under 150MB a month with about 200 texts a day and some emails. But, strictly, no streaming audio or video, and no downloading big pics in mails.
And I think its a 200 MB plan, not 250, unless u r out of US.
And its best NOT to watch videos when on data network. Y'day 6.5 hours of streaming audio with 1 video got me like 375 MB data usage. So beware. A simple video might not be as simple when it comes to its size.
Thanks for the info. I've had unlimited data plans going on 4 years now so its not really something I've ever had to worry about or pay attention to. I'll leave it up to him on how he wants to use his phone, but it's good to know that it can be done.

I don't have Text messaging either, as my parents have disabled it because of the 200MB Data Plan, But with my experience, I use google voice to text and it works GREAT!!! Make sure you download the 3G Watchdog App to monitor your data usage and personally I use DroidWall (Only if you are rooted) To disable certain apps from accessing your data network when you are on the go!. I only let my phone access Google Voice, Market, And The Internet browser when im somewhere else other than at home with Wi-Fi.
P.S From my experience, each time google voice syncs with your account it uses about 15KB and when you send a message it ranges from Bytes to my biggest which was 1KB.

Yes. Since I don't stream audio video never had a need for more data. Never crossed 120 mb, except twice when I used google maps n used like 167 at peak.
This month I changed to 2 gigs cos I download data from this site when at work too. Too tempting to wait till I got home.

Thank you all. I think I'll stick him on the 200mb plan and see how he handles it. He's headed to college in the fall, which means wifi everywhere, so I think he'll be alright.

Bought the App, works great functionally, but I m having an issue with it on my SGS2, its always awake. No Sleep I m on villain rom, and tried uninstalling, rebooting, etc.. removed all widgets, see if it was interfering... same thing, seems like it keeps a persistent data connection open, to accept commands cuts my battery time in half though, or more. Wondering if anyone else experienced that issue? *haven't thrown it on the xoom yet ^^*
Would you guys say it's better than Theft aware? If you all ever heard of TA? seem promising as Avast just bought the company
Google Play Description:
Have you ever been driving and got a text, and needed to tell the person you can't reply?
Have you ever gotten into a text loop, where you are texting someone and the person wont stop replying?
Ever wanted to have a rest from texting, and tell the person texting you this?
Well, this app can do that for you!
No SMS, when enabled, will send a pre-defined SMS to the person who send you an SMS. It even comes with a system to stop it going in a loop if you feel like texting yourself
(This has been snipped a bit).
It costs £3, and you get my continued support throughout the lifetime of the app

sending pre defined sms is available in many free aps i suppose

Yeah dude, pretty expensive given the functionality. That's almost 5 USD.
I'm with these guys.. I've been using the free one for about 4 months and there's really no difference... I mean, I'm not dogging on your work or anything, but that does seem steep.

Hello, I'm having problems with the amount of data used on the one. For me normal is around 20mb a day on 3g use. Now I have this..
How is this possible? Is there something wrong? I only have 1gb data and from the first of June to the fifth I have used 250mb..

Only thing I can think of is blinkfeed. Do you have autosync on?
Youtube and streaming music takes up a lot as well.
Only on wifi..
Is it possible to have so much data use just by checking software update? I did that a couple times..

Have you got any auto photo backup services switched on system, dropbox, googke+ etc? If you take Zoes on this device you get all the jpegs and the videoclip uploaded which can be a huge amount of data

No, I haven't.

Just today it used 87 mb.. Could it be weather related? My htc clock refreshes every 6 hours, but for the blinkfeed weather you have to turn on sonrthing in location settings. Turned that of now. But it seems very strange to me. Is it not possible that I did it myself because I checked the software updates a couple times? Then I at least now where the problem's coming from.

Get 3G watchdog so you can see what each individual app uses.
check with your provider to see if it matches. the phone could be reporting inaccurately.
Watchdog can't help me on this one.

I am having a heavy data usage problem as well. I use my phone to listen to music on my motorcycle, streaming GMusic.
My buddy has a Note II, I have the one. We both streamed music from Gmusic all day, same amount of time. Both of us have "high quality" turned off (unchecked).
At the end of the day he had used 100MB, I had used 873MB!! (reported as being used just by Gmusic). Both phones are on the same account so I login to AT&T to check data usage thinking it had to be a flaw. Nope I've used .9gb his phone says .1gb. WTF?
I still haven't figured it out and have used most of my 3GB in one weekend. Suckage.

Why don't you take a look at Settings>Usage to see which apps are actually using your data?
As I said, Android OS is using this. No further details in there

I've had similar things happen with a couple of HTC's, not Ones. I only worked out how to stop through trail and error and I still don't understand why it happened. What I discovered was that the Mail accounts were constantly eating into my data (140Mb + one day but only 3 short emails actually received into the mailbox). The way I resolved it was to delete the Mail accounts (POP or IMAP, whatever) and then add it as new. This seemed to solve the problem. Never worked out why it was doing it in the first place mind.
The OP says its Android OS, which it could be. But there would be no harm in trying to disable/change apps and accounts to see if makes a difference. And if not methodically you should be any to ID the problem. Fingers crossed.
