can some one point me in the right direction for this been look thru multiple thread trying to find it but no luck.
this is for a cingular 8125
The main drive for what? If you mean the IE cache, then the Registry Wizard found on this forum can do that. If you mean for individual apps, the CAB files will allow you to choose whether to install on the device or on the memory card when you install them. Beyond that, I guess I'm not sure what you'd mean...
I guess he wants the entire OS to run from storage card instead. Its like you want Windows XP running off a DVD-RW disk instead of HDD for your PC.
no i think he probably means when you install some apps to the storage card .. when you go to run them it is looking for the ".EXE" on the device and throws an error... probably how to fix that ..
i just want all apps to run from storage using 2 gig sd card, seem slike everythin i install and choose storage card seems to be on main memory instead of storage even tho i choose storage card i still see in main memory
A lot of apps will still copy some stuff to main memory regardless where you want to install them. Some apps like Today plug ins will even have problem running off storage card especially on old ROMs. Keep this in mind, storage card is slow and not immediately available after wake up from sleep mode. It is best left to be used as storage (as the name implies) rather than program memory.
I have a new 8925 (Tilt) and have the following problem when I reset the device, either by the reset button or Powering down, The icons for the programs I have checked to appear in the start menu are blank until I go to start->settings->menus and uncheck then re-check one of the affected icons. Then all the icons are back to normal.
It is only the icons that are affected. The links work correctly and do launch the programs.
The icons in the recently used area are unaffected and remain correct. I am not switching out SD cards and I have tried uninstalling all today plugins that may be affecting it.
Is anyone else having this problem? I am suspecting that my Tilt is initializing before the SD card and creating this problem. Any suggestions?
Any of the effected programs run from the SD card?
Yes. It is all the the programs that are installed on the SD card.
Same issue with Start Menu icons disapearring for programs stored on microSD card. Could it have something to do with the Kaiser moving the shortcut files from the Programs, folder when you assign it to Start Menu???

I tried creating my own shortcuts under windows with the same results. So you are saying you are having the same problem?
I am just curious what type of SD card are you using?
I am using a Sandisk 1GB Ultra II microSD.
Hi, guys,
Here's one from Kaiser newbie (sorry if there's an answer to this somewhere, tried, but couldn't find it):
Have a (un)brand(ed) new Kaiser and this 2GB Micro SD Card. The thing is, no matter what I do, I can't force that bundled TT6 Navigator (or any other version, for that matter!) to install on my SD!!!
Before you ask, I need it because I am frequently commuting throughout Balkans, and (as if that alone wasn't enough ) the ONLY map TomTom released covering that area so far was v6.08 East Europe BETA which has around 170MB. There's a lot of local forums stating that it is quite operational, but needs a bit of tweaking to get it there, which includes puting both TT6 app and the Eastern_Europe-Map folder to the root of SD.
Piece-a-cake, I thought, but then I hit the wall... I do get to a point of being asked for an install location, but even if I select my SD card ("Storage card"), I end up with TT6 installed in default Program Files folder! Tried with ActiveSync, manual install, CabInst and some other reg-tweakers (promising to solve things but failing miserably), etc., to no avail.
Not just that app, to be specific, some other behave likewise, but then, there are also those that play along, so...
What gives?!?
Try making a "My Documents" folder in the Root of the SD card, then install there or if you already have the maps there, just copy the map folder into My Documents on your SD card.
Are you sure the actual app is installed in the devices main memory. When you install to the SD it still has to install some files on the device - such as the shortcut to the actualy program.

Well, tried that one up, as well as making SD card "Program Files", but doesn't work that way. I'm sure it's because after I move the "Navigator" folder from MyDevice Program Files to SD card, there's a plenty of registry keys still pointing out to the default location... The problem is I can't make ActiveSync to actually install the damn thing anywhere on SD card.

Yes, because I located several folders on MyDevice with TomTom related files, and NONE on my SD card...
Thanks anyway, guys, any help is appreciated.
Quick update:
I did the hard reset. I'll try out "fresh" install, maybe something got messed up in my registry, then I'm back with results - usefull if someone else out there have the same problem (and I've found quite a few of those unfortunate souls ).

Yeah, this isn't going to work. The installation needs to go to the SD card in the first place.
Uninstall whatever it is you want on the card.
When you do the installation, make sure the card is in the phone. Connect your phone to your PC and don't immediately launch the installation. In WMDC or Active Sync, go to "Add/Remove Programs." There's a check box on the screen that will open that says "Install applications to default location" or something along those lines. If you can uncheck it, do so (it's not available sometimes).
When you actually do the install, check the mobile phone - it should be prompting you for where you want to install the app. Select the radio button for the Storage card, and you should be good to go.
Ok, now this is ridiculous!
After a hard reset, tried to install TTN 6, and, when asked for an install location, selected "Storage card"... Nevertheless, the damn thing installed to the Mobile device instead (again, so I give up trying to put it on SD for good!), but, to my surprise, I have managed to start it up and it even recognized my map ("Eastern_Europe-Map" folder on SD card)! Boy, was I happy as a pig in the s... Simpsons Movie ! Quited and started the app several times to ensure it's lock and loaded for good - yep, it was working all right...
But, guess what? After a later soft reset, TomTom hit me back with "No map found" again, seems like it has lost the "show-me-the-map-location-key-thingy" from the registry!!!
So, who da f#$% do I have to kill for this?
Try installing it from the sd card - ie put the cab files on the sd card and load it from there.
Thanx, tried that one already (described in my previous post), it got me closest to the goal, ie. that's how I got TT6 recognizing my map from SD card and working as a peach 'til next soft reset...
What could change in execution of an app after just reseting a device? The only thing coming to my mind is some Windows-style-run-once-regkey that screws things up, which makes no sense since the app should be legit, coming bundled with the Kaiser an all that...
Any idea?
I would guess it more to some registry settings remaining from the flawed installations.
Is there a setting in TT that tells it where to find the maps?
I don't know how, but, hey - it's working now!
Right.
First of all - it's working. I don't know the apparent reason, but what i did was:
1) A hard reset.
2) None of that Spring Backup restore stuff. Although I used to restore just emails and personal database, left it out completely this time around.
3) Installed manually all of the usual tweaks, apps and stuff first, then put the TT6 cab down to my SD card again.
4) Synchronized my emails, contacts and the likes using ActiveSync.
4) Installed TT6 from SD card again, but before starting it for a first time, made a full Spring backup - the idea was, if the thing tends to work just for the first time it's started, I could easily restore it should it start loosing it again after a soft reset.
And that was it. Then started TT6, played around with it for a couple of minutes, and did a soft reset.... TA-DAAAAAH, it's up and running again and again, so no problem with it anymore.
Is it just me, or this makes no sense whatsoever, but, hey, it's working so why bother with it any longer.
Thanks a lot for your help, see you again in next week's episode of "I don't know how, but, hey - it's working now!"
Cheers.
Perhaps a stupid question but ...
If you swap from one SD to another it usually shows the first one ever used as StorageCard and the second one as StorageCard2 (guess something like a digital signature like other OS's do) and so on.
So far so good but the registry has links only to installed programs to "StorageCard". Is there a way to either CHANGE the name of additional storage cards that it remains "StorageCard" or an easy way to change ALL setting in the reg at once.
Sure, premises are that all programs exist on each SD card in the right directory structure.
try to use pocket mechanic to flag properties of old and new card
i have no experience just a suggestion

I recently had a problem that may help you out... For some unknown reason, my one and only "StorageCard" suddenly became "StorageCard2". So, I had a "StorageCard" directory that was empty and all my stuff in "StorageCard2".
Long story short, I removed the card, did a soft reset, deleted the "StorageCard" directory with File Explorer, powered off the Tilt, inserted the card and powered it back up. After all that, I had my "StorageCard" back.
Unless there's a script or utility floating around here, you may have to go thru a similar procedure when you want to swap cards.
Note that the "Phantom Storage Card" problem often comes from saving mail attachments to the storage card or having other applications write data to the card while running. The phone cannot release the card when it's removed (no "safely remove" option a la desktop windows), so you end up with a directory in main memory.
If you're encountering this problem frequently and have room in main memory, disabling those options and storing things in main memory often avoids the problem altogether.

Thanks... I thought my problem was related to mail. When it happened to me, the only thing in my "StorageCard" directory was mail. I suspect that I had done a soft reset and my Tilt processed some incoming mail (Exchange) before the storage card was ready to go.
Hi
Just a quick question. Running WM7 on HTC HD2 but I can't see my SD card or any settings to get to it.
Is there any obvious setting I've missed.
You won't see it as such as it's effectively incorporated into the WP7 file system. You can tweak your PC's registry to make the device appear in Windows Explorer, which gives you limited access to folders, but you really need to use Zune or email to put files onto the device - the card doesn't work quite like it used to in terms of portable storage.
I understand schapps is working on a WP7 'Device Centre' that may help with some aspects of this - should be released following the forthcoming WP7 update.
Thanks for info.
After install I only have 64MB of data storage left. Therefore I can't install aps or take pic's etc so looks like Android for me then.
Hi,
I had the same problem few days agot...
I tried two of my sd cards, and it didn't work, so I bought a new one, and re install my hd2, then it worked...
You can try to reformat the card with SDFormatter, maybe it could help!
But you have to hard reset your phone when you change your sd card.
