I have a HTC hero with mobi pcs, a hawaiian regional carrier that runs off they own towers and no big parent company (verizon, att, etc). My question is that if I flash to a new rom does the rom get rid of the prl and all the information to connect to the certain network I'm on. The hero is laggy and since the updates go thru the carrier with android I doubt my lil company will update us.
I have checked google n whatnot but when someone asks a question like this the thread always goes into another topic and the original answer is not fully answered. Thanks ya'll!
PS. Cdma network so I thought this would be the right catagorie to post lol

cant answer for sure...i BELIEVE a sprint based rom would mess with your service somehow. definatly dont flash fresh2.0d, which DOES affect your pri
sorry i cant be more of a help.
are you rooted? and if so, what recovery?
after my last response, i vaugly remember reading another thread similiar to this. ill link you tomaro
It shouldnt mess with connection. Since im pretty sure a rom doesnt mess with the radio on your phone.
If you do root your phone and get amon-RA-v1.6.2 you can make a nandroid backup. Which is a backup of your entire rom. You can have that to always go back to.
Use DamageControl 2.07.2.. If your connection doesnt go threw right away, then go to setting>about phone>Update Profile and Update PRL.. Both would fix your connections with your carrier.
If that fails to connect, then just nandroid back to your defualt rom.
But im 95% sure it would work.
MAKE sure you do Backup/Restore>Nandroid backup

Now I see the ways to root a non Sprint hero with the sprint ruu then choose don't change Pri, flash to sprint ruu and root it that way. I don't like the idea of flashing it to sprint.LOL. what would be the best way to root it?
There is a way to Root non sprint heros.
I think you have to ruin an SD card, but IMO it's worth it.
ALSO
There is a 1 special ROM for NON Sprint Hero's. I really can't for the life of me remember what its called....maybe "Unsung Hero" or something like that.
But it does not mod PRIs or PRLs like some of the Sprint Roms do.
You can search on "Root Non Sprint Hero" to come up with the how to root with a "Gold Card"
Then you can search for
"Non Sprint ROM"
and get that rom for NON Sprint HEROs.
OK OK. Mahalo for everyone speedy reply! VERY HELPFUL!
Now I wonder how to get sprevovery or clockwork on it to do a full backup Oh the stock/unrooted rom. Like as how for I dump this rom so I can recover it later, maybe even with the pri /prl within it in case anything goes wrong. You guys are effing great, so much knowledge here!!!!

like the title says ive tried all the roms in the development forum and i keep getting stuck at start up the only one that work is the sprint shipped rom
i think it all started when i tried updating roms to MaxSense UI Style found in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649841
i tried to update by the internal memory method, then it got stuck in the touch logo start up screen and since then the only rom that gets pass that screen is the stock sprint rom
any help will be greatly appreciated
Make sure you have a HardSPL version for CDMA or you will not be able to use custom roms on your device.(Assuming you are on CDMA since you posted this in the CDMA forum) Also make sure you have the correct Radio for your CDMA device, each carrier has their own radios for you to flash.
yea ive flashed my phone with custom roms before so everything should be good in that department atleast, i have no clue whats the issue tho, phones unclocked
o WOW....so i just flashed an old custom rom i was using, and it worked.....
anyone know if now its like a requirement to use MTTY to install the new roms that are out? and if it is would the task 29 command that re formats your phone delete whats on your internal memory too? that would be horrible might just keep this rom if thats the case
I never used MTTY to flash. And I flashed about.... 5 different roms to my phone last night(New roms). Maybe thats why I can't get a data connection? I called up sprint to get my PCS Vision username/password but he wouldnt give it to me and made me press dialer codes to try junk. but the unlock code had changed so we couldnt unlock that part. Anyways the phone is about... 2 years old and I have TEP on it, so they are sending me a BRAND NEW Sprint CDMA Diamond Touch. Will it have the same data issues if I flash custom roms on to that one as well? Do I need the PCS Vision info for Sprint?(Only connection is #777 for Sprint but no idea if I need the login settings)
did you tried installing the original shipped Rom for your phone? or maybe a custom rom made for sprint?
would be good to find the login settings just in case idk
I installed a custom rom MADE for sprint. when the phone starts up it does some sort of..... "Hands Free Activation" but always fails on the data part. saying the PCS Vision username/password is wrong when dialing #777.
I still cannot find out what my username and password would be without calling up sprint AGAIN. They are sending me a new phone and everything, but they have some sort of procedure to get it activated and make your data work I am guessing when I receive the new phone monday/tuesday.
Flash back to the stock ROM for sprint. 2.00* and activate, after that is done, you can flash to whatever ROM you want. I had to do this for my Diam500 and once it activated, I installed Moonscape's ROM and everything works perfect.
I've also never used MTTY nor have I had to do many of the suggested methods of what others' have said. I simply installed WMDC for Win 7 x64 Enterprise, updated all the drivers for my phone, unchecked "fast USB sync" on the phone and voila, I can flash anything.
Just my $0.02
try keeping the dial number #777
all other settings with everything blank
no password
My friend got this phone off Ebay and I have it flashed with CM7 rom. He's trying to be it working on Page Plus and they say he needs to get it working on Sprint first with a stock rom?
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this working on Page Plus instead of Sprint?

Actually is not a Stock ROM but any ROM which you can get in to EPST or DIAG Mode so PagePlus can program your phone manually.
That's what I did to hero to works with my carrier.
if its sprint branded, it needs to be flashed back to stock with an ruu. if you dig through the hero cdma forums, you will be able to find it. if not message me, i just dont have the link handy. im pretty sure if you click on my name and look through my posts, somewhere in there i posted a link to it.
from there you can use epst to program it, did pageplus accept the phone's esn? if so then once its flashed back to stock sprint rom just take it to their store and they should be able to very easily get it set up with data, calling etc.
Hey everyone i have had massive problems with the IMEI on my i9000 finally managed to flash back to stock ROM but im still getting no signal. The IMEI is fine and i have a backup of the efs folder saved. What files do i need in this folder as i will delete all of the contents then start again.
Thanks
If your still getting no signal but are not getting "No Service" then either the modem you flashed in the stock ROM is utter pants for specific handset so trying flashing a different modem or a different ROM altogether :/
But if a different modem or ROM doesn't fix it then you have a antenna problem... sorry bud
Hey mate,
Cheers for the reply. I will try a new ROM can you recommend any small ROM's that will work on my device? I don't know a great deal abour ROM's and flashing in general tbh.
I need to finish my guides badly! Then I'd just be able to point you towards them :/
But since their not... cause I've been lazy, please head over to SamMobile/ and create an account if you haven't already done and download the correct firmware for you i9000.
Getting the right firmware is difficult, it's even more difficult since I'm guessing you don't know the PDA build from what the phone was running originally... for example by phone when I got it was running I9000BVJV7 which is actually Android 2.3.3 for the UK and sim locked to Orange.
When you take into account that the Android version, the country and the carrier have an effect on the specific firmwares for two (on the face) identical phones you can begin to see how many millions of different firmwares there are out there just for one phone...
So just try your best and read all the helpful info on SamMobile. If you get really really stuck or if something nasty happens to the phone while flashing either come back to this thread or PM me and I will talk you through a recovery kit that will hopefully restore the phone to a stock ROM (but not official stock ROM).
Since you're new to flashing please be reminded flashing can completely kill a phone to the point of no return, having said that I must have flashed a million times in both ClockworkMod and Odin but that doesn't mean death can't happen at any time.
Thanks mate i really am grateful for the help. I will give that a go and see what i can find.
Downloaded all of the vodaphone rom's and all of the orange roms. The device was used on vodaphone and im still getting the same error :/ any more ideas?
Sorry on the noob question but, I just bought a HTC vivid from a guy and he said the phone was rooted. How can I unroot it or how can I fix it so my att sim card works. The guy said it was unlocked and on t mobile so maybe the setting are messed up. It's on Android version 2.3.4 and htc sense version 3.0.
Same here
in the same boat except I am the one that unlocked the SIM. I used it with T-Mobile and am now trying to sell it. I met a customer at an AT&T store & tried multiple SIM's, but none of them worked. We reset factory reset acouple of times, but that didn't change anything. The weird thing is that when you put an AT&T SIM in the Mobile Network settings are grayed out. Take the card out and the settings are able to be selected.
Sorry to piggyback off this, but Idid want to add that I don't think it has much to do with the current version of Android you're running.
Under mobile data settings, APNs, push menu, restore defaults.

Resetting to default APN settings doesn't change anything in my case. After a factory reset there are no APN settings anyway. The issue I have is when an AT&T SIM card is installed, everything under Mobile Settings is grayed out. You can't select a network to register with and you can't add AT&T's APN or even reset for that matter.
Should I look into doing a hard reboot? Or does anyone know the codes to dial to get access to the radio (ex. ##12345##)? I read through the first couple of posts in the threads linked, but they don't really address the SIM issue. Sure, I saw the notes on APN's, but I don't think this is what is the base of my issue.
Thanks a lot for the links. I actually got it working last night, I changed the apn setting to say phone and it started to work. But I still want to return it to stock to install ICS. On the second link I use step six right to unroot it? And which ruu do I need, because I see like three for Cingular. Thanks.

In the SUPERGUIDE start at the very top, first paragraph. You need the RUU that came on your device If yours came with Gingerbread I would guess this one,but it is only a guess. .Download RUU_Holiday_Cingular_US_1.63.502.4_Radio_1.11.1020.03_30.77.551061.02L_release_221238_signed.exe from FileFactory.com
Thanks. But how do I know what software my came with.
Edit: yup it should be that one.
Is their any other link for the RUU download, it keeps failing for me.

My bad , sorry
Just a thought, what would happen if I update my phone using the update option on the phone? Would it brick it or would it work?
Not sure on that but if it where stock it may ask you to upgrade to ics but I don't know.for sure .
Because I want to return it to stock to then install ics.
No matter what you do to it as gb if you run the stock ics ruu its still gonna be stock ics any thing you done as gb will not apply any more , only thing that don't change is s off
Thanks for the help. I finally was able to do it.
Hi All ,
My apologies if there is a solution to my problem in another thread. I have spent countless hours looking for a way to unroot my Sprint HTC One because the Sprint network can't seem to activate it until I do. Or I need to figure out a way to force the Sprint network to accept my MDN and MSID which can "sometimes" be problematic with rooted devices. It might be easier to just unroot and see if that helps getting the phone to properly activate.
Other than the network connectivity issues, the phone is fully functional. Just cant make calls or send texts.
I am running this ROM based on benny's system dump: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467607 so my device information is:
Android version - 4.3
Sense version - 5.0
Software version - benny's 4.3
Kernel version - [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband version - 1.00.20.0913_3
Build number - 3.04.651.2 CL251863 release-keys
I've tried everything I can think of to get my device unrooted, but none of the RUUs work due to being on hboot 1.55 s-on or having an older firmware version (1.29.xx or 1.39.xx.)
Is there any method I can use to get completely back to un-rooted stock rom with, relocked boot loader (know how to do that part), stock recovery, etc?
I've looked at so many different threads and google searches and all say you need to be s-off and run RUUs of versions that will either cause my touch screen to not work or worse. If anyone can help me it would be amazing and I would be much obliged.

Ah yes! The 3.04 version wasn't available the last time I read that post! I can confirm that the other that using the 1.29 and 1.31 versions caused serious issues for me and my phone. This post is actually what led me to learn about the issues due to different firmware and file structure between new and older versions.
I'm downloading now. Let me know how it goes!

It's a bit dated, but I am going to try this method if I can find a 3.04 RUU. Note, he is doing this to an S-On phone, which is what we have. So it SHOULD work:good:
Nothing against the first method I posted, but I'd much rather do a RUU and get a clean slate...
There is no RUU for 3.04 yet ( that I know of)...
this is your best (and pretty much only) option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46565593&postcount=27
Did you ever find a way to resolve this issue? Also did this start after flashing Cyanogenmod? I have the exact same issue and it seems I have exhausted all available resources. Currently have the following setup:
Android version - 4.3
Sense version - 5.0
Software version - 3.04.651.2
Kernel version - [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband version - 1.00.20.0913_3
Build number - 3.04.651.2 CL251863 release-keys
Noticed that the phone is unable to update PRL correctly. Version will switch from 00000 to 1 to 55016. I am also unable to commit changes to any EPST settings (which is the first thing sprint tried to do). MDN and MSID both currently say 'no' and I can't update.
I'm having the exact same issue with everything working fine but no calls/texts.
I flashed the Guru reset for 3.04 but still no calls/text.
Any other solutions?

Try the following:
Full wipe. Flash the newest stable CM.
Go into Settings > More... (under Wireless & Networks) > Mobile networks > CDMA subscription:
Confirm the following settings:
Network mode = LTE/CDMA/EvDo
CDMA subscription = NV
After you confirm these settings, switch the network mode to CDMA/EvDo only and then back to LTE/CDMA/EvDO.and give it a minute or so, you should see 3G/Phone availability come back. You can test this by dialing a number. You should be able to make a call, or at least get the default Sprint "device is not activated" recording. After confirming this, you can do another wipe and flash back to a stock ROM. You should now have mobile network connectivity back. You may need to Activate the phone again and update the profile/PRL to get back to 100%.

Hmm. That's pretty much the issue that I had except 4G/Wifi was working and 3G/Call/Text didnt seem to be. You might try switching the CDMA mode to SIM and then back to NV to make sure the setting takes. I know CM can be really finicky with network changes.

You may need to flash a stock rom and manually enter you MDN and MSID using the epst menu
no luck
At this point I have not had any luck solving this issue. I used Guru's reset tool as well and believe the problem is the radio firmware. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with Sprint support and with a surprisingly competent technician in the store. He tried to work with multiple different systems they have available to get the phone to recognize the Sprint towers with no success.
He said that the phone just isn't recognizing them in any way and commented that a phone that isn't activated will still show bars of service because the phone gets the signals from nearby towers, but just doesn't know what to do with the signal until activated. In my case, all I see is the "X" above the signal bar graphic.
If you're experiencing the same issue as me, there is nothing Sprint can do to make the phone recognize their towers based on the conversations I've had. I saw my options as:
1. Wait for an RUU to come out or something like that
2. Try out different ROMs - jjmckaskie suggested the newest CM, but I would think others might be worth trying as well. Basically anything that uses different radio firmware
3. Get a new phone - This is the option I've gone with. Since my phone is running a stock ROM and the guy at Best Buy where my insurance is from, didn't check the bootloader (would have said "tampered" and "unlocked"), he assumed I never voided my warranty and sent out for a refurb. This may not work if your insurance is through Sprint though. I'm not sure how thorough they are.

As a last resort you could also try the hard reset code from your dialer by entering ##72786# . You will need to be on a stock rom. You will also need your MSL code (you can usually get this from Sprint support). This will reset EVERYTHING so be mindful. It will also force a hands free activation/Profile/PRL update after the phone reboots which is sometimes useful.

I still took it to Sprint just to see and they fixed it. Downside is my GPS and LTE is messed up again (Me trying to fix those things is the reason all this happened in the first place) but I'd rather not have GPS than not have phone capabilities on my phone (And LTE in Los Angeles is garbage anyway). I think I'm gonna leave my phone alone for a while tho, lol.

Looks like I am going to go this route. I hit ##72786# and it takes me to SCRTN screen. I'm guessing I just hit menu in the top right, then reset? Then it will prompt me for my MSL code?

Yup. I actually dont remember if it does a full wipe, or just forces an activation/profile/PRL update. But either way it's worth a shot.

Sounds like you solved your issue, but for anyone else having trouble....
I re-tried GURU's reset and it worked. The first time I downloaded it over the 4G network. I also downloaded the OTA over the 4G network. My radio has been giving me fits ever since. Finally, I downloaded GURU's reset over WIFI, then made sure the OTA downloaded over WIFI, and my phone is like new again! No radio issues, everything is perfect. Hope this helps some people...
