Wow. Punctuation is your friend, trust me.
Be sure your phone is in 'debug' mode. (settings/applications/development).

plug the phone into usb
the goto CMD
type:
adb devices
and see what it reports back at you.
You may have to reinstall drivers...
Plus 1 on punctuation.

[Q] Half bricked my Htc Hero.

Has anyone not been able to boot into recovery mode on their phone. When I go into ROM manager and try to change ROMS or something it just turns off?
Probably the obvious answer, but have you tried reflashing a recovery?
Yeah If that's when you press the home button, down on the volume and on button at the same time.

no, reflashing, throught Rom Manager or ADB.
I personally think RM is the devil, it does all the stuff for you so when you run into this problem you crap your pants. Do you have adb and sdk goodies?
I am downloading them right now.

cool, then once you get it all set up and made sure, it recognizes it, place the recovery.img of your choice to the root of your sd card,
then type in a command prompt
adb shell
# <--- (should get that)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/(file name).img
Ok I have downloaded and Installed Android SDK , Java RE, Java RE JDK. Is there anything else I would need to access the device through SDK?

lol well you only needed the sdk, those other javas are for developing and other such things. but no problem with being overly prepared. but thats all you need.
just follow these steps, http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK
Hey coffehandle Thanks for the tips.
I read up on that link you posted, and entered some commands that were posted to and it said, that there's not enough space on the phone. Then after doing som3 research I found out that somehow I had deleted the recovery image binary . Installed that fixed all the issues.
Flashed RockSteady ROM its pretty good. Over clocked to 700mhz. ADW launcher. Right now I'm playing Angry Birds Rio. Thanks to all the people at Xda.

[Q] Help with rom installation?

Hey everyone!
I am new to everything about android and just rooted my phone a couple weeks ago. I want to install the decrapified rom burin not 100% sure how to do it. I need CWM to do this right? Can I get back to my original rom if I don't like it or something goes wrong? I also hear some users talking about backing up the device. How do we do this? I know that there are lots of questions and I know some person (maybe two lol) could point me in the right direction. Thank you!

1 yes, you need cwm to put decrapified

Awesome thanks. Now I cant get the adb shell to work. ive done it on my dads phone before so im kinda familiar with it but the sdk still seems to be updating or whatever. Should it work when its finished?
Like when I type "adb devices" it says nothing can be found.
What operating system is ur computer on? Make sure you have installed the LG drivers if Windows.. also, doesn't hurt to be up to date w the sdk...

Running windows 7 sdk updated drivers installed.
Im typing
cd C:\android-sdk\tools\
adb devices
nothing pops up. It says it isnt recognized?
1. install and update adb sdk.
2. Plug your phone in and install the drivers so it is recognized by windows as the revolution.
3. once 1 and 2 are done set your phone to internet only and turn on debugging.
4. now try adb

If you are copying it in Windows, copy it to the drive marked "internal." If not, then this is telling you that file isn't on your sdcard. You need to move it there.
Its in the internal. Should it go in a folder? What about the fact that it says no space left on device?
I have plenty of space?

It shouldn't need to go in a folder. The error message about space is normal (expected).

How do I transfer apps from my pc to my rooted nook touch?

Hello everybody! I have a lot of android apps on my pc and I want to transfer them to my nook, but I don't know if it is possible. If it is, which folder do I drop them off in? I tried to find where the other apps are installed in my nook that I directly download from the android market, but I can't find their location. Please help me out, I really need some of the apps I have and I can't even find them or can't download them directly. Thank you for your time!

Thanks for taking your time to help me I really appreciate it. I've run into a problem though. when I try to set up adb it wont find my device in the cmd prompt. I am following these instructions to set up adb: search in youtube "ANDROID SDK Tools (How-To Install)" first video. I get stuck at the part at 6:23 it just says "list of devices attached" and doesn't list anything. I don't know what am doing wrong .
psbear532,
You can use a file explorer program (astro, es explorer, etc), and choose the apk on sd and install it. Just remember to use nookcolortools and de-select and re-select the non-market app box.
I guess it would be easier - I haven't had luck with adb so far...

Assuming you've successfully rooted your NST:
1: Enable wifi on your NST and make a note of the IP address assigned to it.
2: Tell adb to connect to that IP
Code:
adb connect 10.0.0.2
That's it, if adb was able to connect you can now adb push or adb install all you want

Why?, apart from having to download and install the Android SDK, using adb should be straightforward unless you're trying to get it to connect to the NST trough usb.
Ros87,
Maybe that was my mistake. I've always tried using USB :S

Getting adb to work over USB on the NST is a pain in the a**
Some people have reported getting it to work with the Google drivers, but none of them worked for me in W7. Also I'm unable to try it in Ubuntu as I'm running that trough VMware Player and I cannot redirect the USB port properly.
Thank you both so much! Ros87 I got it to work over wifi which I think is even better since now I don't even have to deal with the wire. apeine I didn't try your method since adb worked, but thanks for your time anyway.

So why don't you install linux on a separate partition?
How does one do this without an SD card? I will be getting one soon, but for now, can I just create a temporary folder on the home directory and install it from there? Does it automatically install to the apps directory?
Thanks!
EDIT: I just figured out how much you can browse with the computer. So...
The simplest method is to just copy the apps to an SD card, insert the card, browse to the .apk location, tap on the .apk file, you will be prompted with an screen asking if you want to proceed to install or just use the adb over wifi method as explained above
I use and app names Airdroid. It allows you to install apps remotely from your computer via wifi.
I have an "apk" folder in my UbuntuOne account, Dropbox should work too.
then i have the app for the service installed.
it works fine for me

[Q] [Help] Stuck at the HTC Bootloader with the sdcard, system formatted through CWM

Hello there,
Right now I'm stuck with an HTC one with its complete system wiped out i.e format cache/system/sdcard/media etc via CWM recovery throught the option in mounts and storage (I did that by mistake on CWM, forgetting about how the phone does not have an external sd card which I'm used to...) I don't think its USB debugging option was enabled either because I had fresh unlocked the bootloader so the phone was reset to factory settings, so I don't know if adb sideload is an option. (I don't know how this works either, at least not entirely... only what I learnt over the past 4-5 hours through the web) I feel like i have the adb path set up right, all I need to do is be able to access the device through my computer so I can somehow transfer the ROM zip onto the sdcard so I can install it. Can I just flash the ROM zip through fastboot? I already read around that prolly not but someone mentioned that I can flash the factory stock update... Where can I get that. Help pls! 2 months salary down the drain... replacement is not an option here... there is no customer service where I come from..

Thank you for the quick response! This is the message I get after typing "adb devices" in the command prompt from the platform tools folder

* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
I'd already tried this before but this time I extracted the sdk in C:\ just to see if it made any difference... I even used the command "adb remount" it still says "error device not found". Could this be because of the USB debugging option from the developers menu in settings? I can't make that change right now because i can't boot into the phone! What can i do to correct this?
"C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20130522\sdk\platform-tools>adb devices

C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20130522\sdk\platform-tools>adb remount

My laptop that i connect to the phone is on a 64 bit operating system does it matter if the sdk i downloaded is for 32 bit?

I use the same fastboot folder I used to unlock the bootloader for all adb stuff it contains a working copy of adb
and makes sure the path is easy and correct. (no spaces)
2. I see he mentions using a laptop ..be sure your using a usb 2 port .. not the blue usb 3.0 ports their know to cause issues with adb.

HTC One (M7) Problem

I'm not to sure what to call this problem exactly but i'll explain it to the best of my ability. Recently on my HTC One (m7), which I bought from HTC website. I've been having problems moving files from my phone to PC. I used to transfer all my music files easily but now I get this error message saying " A device attached to the system is not functioning ". Also when I try to paste music files or folders my computer tab freezes up. My phone works perfectly fine, there seems to be nothing wrong with it. There is a system update that won't complete on my phone. I'm pretty sure the update has nothing to do with this problem but then again I don't completely know. My phone is rooted. I have clockworkmod touch & SuperSU. I am unsure what to do as I need to copy my music files so if something happens to go wrong with my phone, I have backups. If anyone has a solution to this problem it would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you need to update your drivers ~ read thru nkk71's post #2
The reason the OTA will not complete is it is looking for the stock recovery and you have a custom recovery installed.

This definitely sounds like a driver problem, they may be up to date but that doesn't mean they are installed correctly.
Check your Device manger on your pc while the phone is connected to your usb, in device manger your phone should be listed as "MY HTC" if it's not see the post linked by @majmoz
It's not uncommon for this to happen especially if you frequently connect your phone to different usb ports on your pc.

I uninstalled the drivers & re-installed them, which also didn't help me much. I checked the majmoz gave me, and I tried to download an earlier version of drivers but it said they were already installed and blocked me from installing. I'm not quite sure what to do now.

Maybe there is an issue with the internal storage.
If you can install the terminal emulator app, you could try to rewrite /data/media/0
In Terminal Emulator type:
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
Than reboot and see if it was helpfull.
I have had issues like this before. While the phone is booted as normal and plugged into pc, go into developer options and disable and then re-enable usb debugging.

Ok, I did some problem solving and eliminated some possible problems. It's definitely not the security on my phone, and all my drivers work properly. But I found that on my phone there is not a file called /data/media/0. I think it might have somehow got deleted but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how to get an extra copy of this file?
