Exchange Email Help - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to setup a custom sound for my schools exchange email. I can select the sound I want to use, but somehow it keeps switching back to the default one. For my gmail I can select a custom sound and it saves.

Anyone have a solution?

tytn2 imap gmail

I recently flashed my kaiser with the latest duty rom. After that i try to setup a imap gmail account.
The problem is that i can recieve mail, but when i try to send it gives the error :the message(s) could not be sent.Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again
I checked / dubbel checked the imap settings from gmail, but nothing seems to work.
(if i try to setup pop3/smtp everything works fine)
Is there anybody who can help me ?
I think it comes because WM6 wants to automatic set some settings.
Try the following:
Create a new imap account.
By the email adressfield put something like. [email protected]
Fill in all the other fields but remember to select imap4
When finished go back and edit the account with the right settings.
I had to do this with my own phone to get it working
have you enabled imap within your gmail settings at mail.google.com?
have you set the SSL settings to yes?
Tom , yes i enabled imap on the gmail setting, and yes i checked the ssl setting ( i cant change anything, only set the V )
@AAthesource : i tried this already, this is the only way to setup gmail with imap, otherwise the setting are automaticly set tot pop3 etc

I've had this problem with WM6.0 (Dutty's RTM4). The issue seems to be the ssl certificate than GMail sees fit to change every now and again. The SMTP info doesn't seem to change in the registry. Even with account deletion and re-add with the same name doesn't seem to fix this. I usually have to delete the account and then add with a different name.
Does anyone know where the fsck Pocket Outlook et al store the account information and especially cache certificates and passwords?
James
this would be nice if there's a solution !Hope to see it soon
I think you might be using the wrong information. The server isnt mail.google.com, its imap.google.com .
WM6.1 will automatically fill in settings, so you have to start off by making the address [email protected], then after you are done you can go back and correct that address. Here are the details from google's site. (remember to put the wrong address the first time around)
1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail account settings.
2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
3. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field.
4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
10. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
11. Select Next.
12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
17. Select Done and then Next.
18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
20. Select Finish.

My notes on these steps:
1. Ignore
3. Use a made up non @gmail.com adress the first time.
4. There is no check box in 6.1
12. I used imap.gmail.com for my outbound and it works great.
21. Menu > Tools > Options > Gmail Account > Fix Address to correct @gmail.com
@Pops_G it works for me now thanx !
i replaced smtp.gmail.com with imap.gmail.com and it works
is this a long term fix?
@ the cosmic gate & pops_G, is changing from smtp to imap.gmail really a long term fix?
I've found that erasing and re-creating the account will work until they change certificates again.
Going into my options and just switching outgoing to imap.gmail.com didn't fix it for me.
I had to erase my account from the phone and enter it again to work, using imap.gmail as the outgoing. However, I'm not convinced this fixes anything since re-doing it with smtp.gmail also would work until they change the security again.
So, will that not happen if using imap.gmail for outgoing?
Or does any of this really make any difference at all?
@Dishe, I really doen't know if this is a long time fix.But at this moment everything works fine for 1 month.
The only problem is that sometimes its not possible to send a mail.
It's really strange, but for example if you wanna send 4 mails, just 1 e-mail (adress) gives problems
I had it working fine in this 1999 rom but didnt seem to work with the hybrid. I also dont like how imap deletes the mail from the server when u del it off the phone. I just set it back to use pop. Only problem I saw with pop before was everything sent ends up in your inbox.

That's silly. You can set it to move trash to server trash instead of delete off server. Then, the message still exists on the server in "trash" until you empty it.
Also, at least with gmail, "delete" only removes it from the inbox. It still exists on the gmail server, but its not in any folders, they just sort of float around until you move them into the trash folder or assign them to another folder.
You can see this by viewing "All Mail" and filtering out the inbox, etc, to just show you messages without any category.
The only real reason to use POP these days is if your mail server does not support Imap. Imap is superior in every way...
It's not silly I don't want want my phone moving or deleting anything. I just want to view new emails. That's what gmail is about. Archiving mail and not having to delete anything. If it moved it to the archive I would be fine with it. I also don't my message in limbo with the "deleted" status.
it works for me for 3 weeks now, but sometimes there's a problem when i try to reply.
If i made a reply to some adressses, it says that its nog possible to send (something with network coverage).I know for sure that the mail adres is 100% okay .
Someone with the same problem ?Or maybe a solution?
is there nobody with the same problem ?Or somebody who can help me ?
nope, works fine for me. Sounds like you have a totally different problem. Ask google support or perhaps someone on their forums.

Notification/Sound

Hi all,
Little question here. My Kaiser connects to the internet trough wifi (will soon be able to connect through 3G) which works fine. I set up some settings to auto-check for new mail. I get gmail over pop3 and it nicely gives me a notification for new mail, it plays a sound and everything. However when my Windows Live mail (hotmail) synchronizes and it gets new mail it doesn't notify or play a sound in any way. In HTC Home the number does change to 1new mail but I'd like to be notified with a sound or message. I haven't found any settings that work yet in either the Live mail program or the phone itself.
I tried to let my hotmail mail send to my gmail account but hotmail won't do that unless the adress is @msn or @live @hotmail, so that workaround isn't working.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to get this notification running.

Sound Notification with Hotmail

Hi All,
Have tried to search arround but cant seem to find anything (my apologies if I have missed something obvious - so if anyone does have a link to a thread, ill more than happy to read through it rather than someone re-writing the answer!)
Is it possible to have a sound notification if there are any new hotmail messages. I understand this maybe difficult or not possible as its not physically receiving a message, more sync'ing with hotmail and showing the unread items.
Any help or guidance will be much appreciated!
Regards,
Craig
Any answer to this one yet...wondering the same thing.

This should work by simply assigning an audio file under "new mail notification" in the sounds setting. I get my hotmail account pushed instantly as the mail comes and the sound does alert me of it.
I thought it was that easy....but in the "sounds and notifications" settings I have choosen a sound file, display notification, and illumination for new email notifications and still get nothing for Hotmail or Comcast new emails. I do however get sound/display/illumination for new mail from my Outlook account which is why it seemed odd to me. I have only had the phone for a couple weeks and thought that it giving me notifications before I upgraded to the latest R2A rom X1A american version...
Bigfeat - Thanks for your help, like zeffX1A, I have assigned a sound in the options, this works when I receive email via my POP and IMAP accounts but when Hotmail Syncs, I dont get any notifications at all (sound, Illumination, Vibration etc)
I really would like to see a solution for this.
As far as I know, you do get a notification when you select the syncing option as "when they arrive" aka push. But for me push hotmail is not working at all. (Messenger on home computer signed in, but not as online or on the phone) Sometimes it does work, but more often it refuses to do so.
Is there maybe different software that gives notification on new hotmail mail when you check periodically?
hi i seriously need a solution to this too.
i selected sync frequency to As Items Arrive, under the Sound and Notification settings, i also assigned a tone for new email msg, but i still dun get a notification whenever i have a new email, its not notifying mi at all, not even a display of new mails on the Today screen.
i need push setting for my hotmail account. can any1 help how to set it to notify me whenever there is new mail?
appreciate ur help
found any solution for it?
Same problem: No alert notification on new Hotmail message
Hello!
I have the same problem described above (more or less)
I can ear the sound that I've assigned to new emails when I receive a new GMAIL message (I have it configured to query server each 60 minutes for new mail), this works perfectly.
But it is not the same with HOTMAIL messages , I don't understand why is this way! (I have configured HOTMAIL to read mail each 60 minutes too)
Ok, the reading and downloading methods for GMAIL and HOTMAIL are different, as second it's done by the Windows Live Application, but in both cases the messages ends in its inboxes in HD2, so... why the GMAIL alert sounds, and HOTMAIL not?
What can we do? T_T
Regards!
you can get hotmail sound and vibrate notification if you setup your hotmail at Windows Live app. It works for me
Solved for me
Hello everyone,
It's weird but now, suddenly, it works!... without doing anything special
It is possible, too, to work sometimes and sometimes not (sometimes you can hear the sound notification in hotmail and sometimes only receive mail without this sound alert)... but I'm not sure of this.

[Q] Hotmail Contacts

Hi all
My g/f got the HD7 today and it's been fairly plain sailing so far. Couple of things have come up though, she got her contacts imported from her sim card without any problems but as soon as she linked her Hotmail account it imported those Contacts as well. Thing is she doesn't want the Hotmail contacts, so can we get rid of them without deleting the Hotmail connection.
We also couldn't find out how to set the snooze time for the alarm or set the alarm to be full volume as soon as it goes off.
Thanks for your help
you can't set the volume separately so the phone has to be left at full volume, and there aren't any snooze time settings as far as I've been able to see, the phones very beta maybe even alpha state atm
They can't really have released a phone in beta form can they? That would be a sure fire way to upset customers. Going back to the alarm, currently it starts low and raises the volume over time, we want it full volume straight of. Might try a third party alarm.
the software's stable but the feature set is really limited, patches are going to add features such as cut and paste and use your own ring tones, things that people have come to expect as standard, so though the software/hardware isn't really beta, the feature set is so lacking it's as if MS launched early and are waiting to hear the cries about what is missing to add them ala the cut and paste.
Any answer to the hotmail sync of contacts? Can we pick and choose which contacts to use or not use any or delete them after the sync?
I had to delete all of my contacts, didn't really bother me seeing as I don't use MSN nowerdays and my Windows Live ID is a @Gmail addy anyway so I don't and Can't use Hotmail.
@tboy2000
Hey, yes you can remove the hotmail contacts...
Go into "settings", "email & accounts" then select your hotmail account. from here you should have a "content to syncronsise" section. just remove the contacts from the list.

That cant be done if that account is being used as your primary live id though.
Indeed - it's not possible. The solutions are to merge hotmail accounts to normal sim accounts, if they match, or to delete your hotmail contacts completely.
Not ideal, but it's how it is.

[Q] Calendar issues

Anyone having issues with the stock calendar app not showing reminders? I use my calendar often for reminders, yet most of the time it never notifies me. Never had this issue on my original EVO...
I'm also confused with the calendar settings under "reminder settings" and it says "apply to", every time I change it to my @gmail.com account and exit the settings, go back in and it is changed back to "people".
