Maximum supported Micro SD Memory on the Wing? - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I'm about to get a Wing, it seems like a really fun phone to play around with, but I want to know what's the maximum sd memory i can put in to this phone if there is a limitation

dronzer,
The wing is a fun phone to play around with. Especially with the continued efforts of Trib here in the Herald development thread, you can really have your pick of the latest builds in most configurations.
As far as MicroSD is concerned, I can tell you that I personally use an 8gb so I know it is capable of that. I have yet to try a 16gb card so if anyone else has had any luck, I would be curious to see the result.

ahh that's great to hear I wanted at least 8gb ^^ also do you or anyone else happen to know if i buy the wing would i have to buy any other kind of services? (I'm on Tmobile and currently on Text msg unlim) I plan on using wifi to get on the internet and i know Wing doesn't have 3G, but i was wondering if i need to purchase additional plans. thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!

If you buy the phone outright (full retail), or find one used, then just swap the sim cards and you are good to go. If you need to sign a contract to get a deal on the handset then you are subject to the terms of whomever is still selling it. I am sure you could find one used or refurbished for a reasonable price no matter where you are. If you haven't already done so, check out the marketplace which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=476
Heck, I am sure if you posted in this Herald section that you would like to buy a wing, someone may surprise you with an offer. Just be cautious and carefull if buying from a stranger online in any format.

65 dollars (shipping included) good deal for the wing? i see one on ebay

16gb works fine.

8525 to 8925

Hey,
I just got my 8525 about two months ago. What is my best plan of action for upgrading to the Kaiser? Does Cingular offer any kind of upgrade discount or anything like that where I can trade in the old phone? Or should I just sell it on EBay?
No help at all for this subject?
at&t/cingular does not offer any type of trade incentives for upgrading. ebay is your best bet to recoup any value from your 8525.
I am not sure how you expect us to answer the question as the Kaiser has not even been released yet. I agree with jamiefielder though that Ebay will likely be one of only a few avenues to trade up with. I am not aware of any of the companies doing anything for high end stuff. Sure they will give you a cheap motorola phone if you lock into a contract, but not for high end stuff.
None of the companies will give you any upgrade after only two months Your only choice is to sell the 8525 and buy the 8925 when it is available.

Im not sure where you are at but if you dont mind waiting you can donate it and get some of teh money back on taxes if you itemize. I have a razor and a verizon push to talk phone that i will be donating
Thanks guys I thought so but I just wanted to make sure.
I will probably be buying the phone just straight out not looking to upgrade or anything, so I will just sell the 8525.
Quick ? though for anyone looking around this thread: Is it ever worth it for me to get data/internet plans? I am simply a college student who does no business but likes the nice phone and all the calendar/phone/roms/word mobile, etc etc. But I'm not sure about the usefulness of getting an internet package. Does anyone know anything specifically that they use the internet for on the phones?
I use it to get my email, and also to check stuff online if I'm just putzing around away from a computer. Plus I use telenav, so need a data plan for that. I went with the Media Max Unlimited plan. Gives you unlimited data and 200 sms, which I need anyway, so basically I have unlimited internet for $15 a month. That's worth it to me.

Hello All,
This is just to inform you all that this phone is now sold since I have just purchased it on ebay.
This will be my second Kaiser, and I have to admit that I am very happy with it. I had a Herald before, and the Kaiser is a distinct improvement.
Thanks to all on this site who provide such good advice!! And thanks for helping me find a new phone for my wife!!

How come no one wants to purchase my phone, although its been advertised for longer?
Sorry, 246810. I didn't see that your phone was for sale, and also, although your phone if probably a cheaper offer (if you look at what you are giving with it), I wanted the HTC model not the MDA version because I already have an HTC model myself and I don't want to have two different versions of the same phone.
Sorry!!!
P.S. I might have a Herald for sale when the Kaiser arrives as my wife currently has a Herald and she might not want it any more. Anyone interested?
P.P.S. I regulary send older models to the Philippines (my wife is from the Philippines) as charity as they cannot afford such phones there. If anyone has any of the older models (so far I have sent Wizards and a couple of Universals) and would be willing to donate them to charity (I don't make any money from this at all), please PM me. THANKS!!!!
Hey 246810.
Maybe you should reduce your price a bit to get more interest. Your Phone is a T-mobile branded TYTN so will not have the look of the original TYTN from HTC Which may put some poeple off a bit.
I recently had the opportunity to purchase a MDA vario 3 for £200 brand-new and never used but my heart was set on an orginal looking one. A week later I managed to get an orange branded one with a HTC replacement battery cover £250.
I'm not saying yours isn't a bad offer. But maybe the price is a bit too much for what it is.
Hope you find luck selling it.

Yep, I have a thread advertising my phone. I'm still waiting for my paypal set up to come through and then I will put in on Ebay. Mine is brand new as well and hasn't even be switched on and comes with all you need.
Good luck with your herald- quite personally I don't see myself purchasing a Windws Mobile phone again in a very long time...
just great...

Lol. Okay, point made. If there is a buyer in London, UK then I am willing to meet face to face as this is the safest method for both the buyer and seller. I really do want to get rid of it however, and when my Paypal is sorted out shortly, you can purchase it by paypal if you're interested?....

May I ask if you can buy it for this price brand new? I do find it hard to believe that you can purchase a new Diamond for around £290. Who are you purchasing them from? Cuboosh?...
Also, keep in mind that it comes with 4 cases, two of which are the boxwave clear active case and Siedo's case, and two leather cases, Sony Bluetooth headphones in good condition, along with a virtually unused very compact Bluetooth keyboard that I purchased off Expansys for £60/$120.
not to hijack the thread or anything, but just to let you know, that most people dont really care about that stuff. i wouldnt pay extra for a bluetooth keyboard. why would i need it??? hah 4 cases??!!! one is more than enough. just letting you know why you're having problems selling it so far. maybe try selling that stuff separately??

Paid Apps in the UK?

Hey,
Is anyone in the UK seeing any paid apps at the moment? I believe we're due to start seeing them again
Tomorrow, accordingly:

Just had a quick look and the paid apps have hit the UK 12:22am
I didnt think the paid apps would be available for rooted phones?

They are, AFAIK you only need to be running RC9, it doesn't matter whether it's OTA RC9 or JesusFreke's version.
I can definitely see them, and I'm on a rooted phone.
Awesome, the paid apps just popped up for me today - I thought I had lost that chance, being rooted and all. I was quite suprised they were all in dollars - thought it may have had something to do with the Latitude activation app.
Just bought a couple of apps, Im a happy guy - I was concerned the only way to get them on my rooted phone would have been to pirate them!?
I checked a couple of minutes after midnight (randomly, didn't realise they were coming) on my rooted phone and they were there! I thought all was good. However, with a Maestro card (a fairly popular card in the UK), I can only buy apps priced in GBP and not USD. Which means my selection is severely limited at the moment. Any one else having such problems or is it just me? It's rather annoying! Either Maestro users will be able to buy apps priced in dollars (the preferrable option) or, more likely I think, people will put prices in GBP but not fairly convert the prices, meaning we'll end up paying more.
spiderbites, they don't allow (some?) paid apps on the ADP firmware because, by default, you can access the files and make copies of them. Rooted RC9/RC33 phones are not affected as they are hacked versions of a locked down firmware.

How did you manage to use Maestro? It did not accept my HSBC Maestro card as technically Google Checkout only works with Visa, Mastercard, American Express and one other (can't remember).
Go to the Google Checkout page on the internet and add your card details through there, rather than adding a new card through the Android Market itself. If you (only) use a Maestro card, though, you'll only be able to buy applications priced in pounds - if you try to buy something priced in dollars, it'll say you don't have a valid credit card and ask you to put one in.
Still, at least I've been able to buy the London tube map app.

Thanks for the tip! I think it is stupid that they don't simply convert the prices into quids.
Yep, Maestro here too, and I can only get the £ apps.

As far as I am aware, it is up to the developers to use their Android Market account to add areas/countries that can buy their app, and set the prices accordingly. (if anyone knows better, feel free to correct me). Unfortunately, many of them seem happy to just leave their apps US-only even though the UK market is now open. Or, it might be that they're unaware that this is possible.
Of course, it would be a lot easier if Google would modify the system to allow purchases of $ apps at current (at the time of purchase) exchange rates. Perhaps it's worth us UK users starting a petition for this.
Your thoughts?

Please help!!

Please help. I am torn between getting the Apple Iphone and the HTC Touch Diamond 2. I think i'm set on the diamond 2 but I've read about a lot of niggly problems with it which is preventing me from making the step. For example, the mp3 player.
Is it really that good?
Any advice is hugely appreciated!
MP3 player? well let me tell you one thing, i had 2 ipods one for the office and one for home.
NOW I am afraid that they have become obsolete to me, since i got my 32GB memory card. TD2 will do it! but bear in mind that you will be putting some pressure on your battery if you are using the device for the gps, phone and mp3.
Anyway i bought myslef xpal xp2000 just in case i run out of power.
Anyway getting back to your question, there is nothing wrong withthe mp3 and if you are not happy with the default player, you can instal many free 3rd party's software, like oxygen or S2P...
WITH THE DIAMOND2,THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!
I RECOMMEND IT
I HAVE HAD THESE PHONES FOR YEARS SINCE THE FIRST XDA GENERATION
i was torn like you before, cause i like apple so much, but who make my mind to have my diamond 2 that i found IPhone every time they will release an OS version you need to wait for the jalibreak to run your application from Cydia etc,,,,,,. which will make me unable to test and play with my phone as i would like. So i Decided to get my Diamond 2 and i am happy with it.
It was the freedom to install what you like on the phone that tempted me...and that it will get Windows Mobile 6.5 later in the year to iron out any niggles you mioght find. I'd also say that although people seem to hate them, the option to use a stylus every now and again does come in handy - you can type far faster with the stylus than the iphone touch keyboard, and you can write or draw notes in something like EverNote (very cool app).
One other point that few people seem to mention...the TD2 is much much (much!) cheaper than the iphone. I got mine through mobiles.co.uk for free at £30 a month for more texts and minutes than I'll ever need plus mobile internet. AND £40 cashback that pays for a nice big SD card to store your music! No brainer if you ask me...

If you don't mind me asking, which network have you signed up to because I was told that O2's contract does not include free wifi and internet usage and on the mobiles.co.uk webiste, it doesn't state whether the orange contracts do either

It was the "Orange Dolphin 40" - afraid you'll need the 24 month contract to get the mobile browsing. If you click on the TD2 from the mobiles.co.uk home page, then select the orange tab it should be listed as including 500mb data - that's your mobile browsing. Not exactly "unlimited" but it is the same in practice as o2's mobile browsing deal and more than enough for me as I use the wi-fi at home and work anyway.
How long did it take for you to receive the cash back offer from mobiles.co.uk?

Cheque arrived yesterday! That's with me placing the order originally on 14 May. They actually wait 14 days after you receive the phone (you can send it back in that period if you're not happy) then it's supposed to be another 14 to 28 days after that. Were pretty prompt with me though.
Of course if you're happy to wait longer, you get a much better deal with the 9 months half price offer - they send a cheque every 3 months I think.

Good choice, and hope you have fun with the phone. I should be charging them commission though...
I realise you already ordered yours, but for others considering the TD2, I am looking at http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n447/p10957.aspx
mobile phones Direct
The contract I'm looking at is the T-Mobile Combi 30 +Web n Walk,
This gives 300mins, 200 Texts + the standard Web n Walk web allowance.
For: £35 a month, with the phone costing £33.
(I know it doesn't mention web on the 'Text & Web' bit, but I emailed them and the confirmed it does include it)
Seems a good deal, I've just got to persuade myself now!

hey dude, friend fo mine got it for me of HONG KONG...it is called SDTECHS...will try to get you some info
I read somewhere on this forum that the TD2 only recognises 16gb memory cards. Does yours recognise the full 32gb of your card?

Kaiser 32GB?

hi, support kaiser 32gb memory card? everywhere writing yes.. (support up to 32gb) but i need some help before i buy it..
Thanks
What kind of help ? Someone else to drop $ 100 and test it out ?
its heavy.. im 15. and i havent money everywhere.. i must need some positive result..
it theory it should
if it does
or if the brand you buy is compatible
is another question
wait until by chance a guy who bought the same
brand you want wander buy and post it works
or take a chance or get a smaller card
choice if yours
I understand you young and money is tight. we have all been there. My suggestion is to buy a couple of 16g ones and you are all good. What are you putting on it to need that much space? I have tomtom and it uses 2gig and 4 gigs of music (lets be honest, I will never listen to it all) and I still have 3 gigs left after apps are loaded on my 8 gig card.
Your choices are this: buy and try and see if it works or buy a couple of smaller ones that will do the job as well. Good luck and what ever you do I hope it works out.
InR
Yes it works
Thought it wouldn't - but can confirm 32Gb works on a Kaiser.
