want to create Live wallpaper but cannot programme - Android Themes

Can anyone help?
I want to create some animated wallpapers for myself, friends & family. No interaction, just a looped video.
I can create video's easily, been doing it for years, but I have no idea how to programme in any language
Is it possible for someone to create a template that I (and others) can just add a small video to and (somehow) convert to an apk?
I can promise I will not sell anything and will only be for people I know
is it even possible to use videos or are the current live wallpapers rendered on the fly?
any help/advise appreciated

I know the nexus boot animation uses the actual bootanimation.zip from the system folder. I'm sure you could create another animation.zip and redirected to that without much trouble. I hope that's a good starting point for you or whoever decides to help you.
BTW, the boot animation is basically just a short video clip with each frame saved as an individual png.

Like I said, you only have to convert your video clip into a boot animation, which is just an animated GIF with each frame broken out into a separate PNG image file.

Email the guy that made the Earth Live wallpaper. He can point you in the right direction.

Problems with modifed Startup-GIF´s

Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this forum and my english is very bad, because i am an bavarian noob I take my german text to the google-translator an this is the result:
I have tried to change my startup screens what has failed miserably. I have the original files with the trail version of Ulead Gif Animator processed and pushed to the Hero. The results you can see here. I have the orig. and modifed attached files. Can anyone of you tell what went wrong?
Thx,
the bavarian opallabtb
I noticed whilst browsing the Hero file system (in root somewhere) that there are a number of config files for boot and on my Orange Hero, an Orange startup animation.
No idea how you do it (rooted & text editor maybe), but you will probably have to edit these
thank you joemax for your quick answer.
There is only one xml file in the folder /system/media. It calls boot_animation.xml
I didnt touch this file. The names of the modifed files are the same as the original ones. Is it possible that the Ulead gif animator change anything in the gif file (transparent background, etc)?
greets
Sorry, I have no idea then. My depth of knowledge at this point is very poor
Can the Hero actually play the gig animation you copied across ?
I use ASTRO to browse my Hero, it plays and views images, video and gif files. Try to see if its actually playable 1st.
Sorry but thats all I can think could be causing it.
I bet you crapped yourself when you first saw that messed up boot screen
I've had a look at the gif files you're using and they differ from the originals. The ones you made, each frame has different background properties. If you look at each frame in the original, they're all 320*480 with a background colour index of 199; they all have a black (transparent) background of 320*480.
But the modified gifs have frames which don't have the same sized and colour index backgrounds, and this is the only thing I can see that would cause the problem. When you view them in windows picture viewer, they show up fine; I think it's something to do with the transparency and the fact that the first frame IS the right size and colour but the rest are not.
In fact now that I look at your video again I'm certain this is the case. I know how to fix this, what program did you use to modify the frames?
Edit: Okay maybe I should read posts better, you used Ulead Gif Animator. If you can send me the individual images of each frame I could put this together for you in a way I'm sure will work
Hi,
thank you for your support!

Can you take the Frames/Pics or whatever you want from the "modifed.zip" package?
Thank you!

kendons bootscreen v0.1

ok, born from the verbose bootscreen idea there was the fake verbose bootscreen idea, credit goes here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4912469
this is what i came up with in a quick session, i think there is much room for improvement. if anybody likes to contribute, i would be glad for creative support
apply the zip as update.zip, make a nandroid backup before just in case. to make it easier to revert i attached a zipfile with the original files in them to revert to original, one with the sounds activated, one silent.
please tell me what you think
Hello,
do you have any screenshot of the boot or video?
Just extract the gif files and open them in IE or firefox. They'll play the anim. Very funny
thats quite funny
Lol
You are completely cool!
Thank you for this Bootscreens.
Now, Hero Booting isn't pain anymore!
glad you liked it. stay tuned for next version, already working on a progress bar... won't be out before weekend i guess.
still looking for a fingerprint scanner animation.
Nice one Thou i kinda miss my androids popping up everywhere. Would it be cool if you had a Android face popping down from the top of the screen?

for now i found a way to edit the files in inkscape, one layer per frame, exporting them to .xcf keeping the layers, and then use gimp to convert to animated gif. works, but is a lot of footwork... but i guess as i am trying to make a rather "complex" (at least for a gif) animation it just is a lot of footwork...

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me out. I dig your boot animation, and it's inspired me to make my own (OK, I'm just stealing the old "Cylon Eye" animation from the pre-release days.) Anyway, I've got the animation zip installed and working, however it seems like the phone is ignoring the frame delay. The animation seems to be going as fast as the phone can handle. So maybe there's a setting on the animated GIF that I'm not applying. Are there any specific settings you applied to your gifs?
Here's what I've got right now:
Code:
Interlace: No
GIF Comment: No
Loop Forever: Yes
Delay between frames where unspecified: 10ms
Frame disposal where unspecified: "I don't care" (other options are Combine and Replace)
Use Delay entered for all frames: Yes
Use Disposal entered for all frames: Yes
These settings are in GIMP. If you could help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

set that value to a higher number, try 100ms. this specifies the general frame delay, you can set per-frame delays in the name of the frame. for example:
"Frame#1" is the layer name, make it
"Frame#1(500ms)" to make the delay half a second long.
(if that doesn't work try to google it, i am not 100% sure about the syntax)
would you mind sharing that animation you are talking about?
btw: work is still ongoing here, nuclear power now has a colored progress bar, but it is getting complicated handling 150+ layers in inkscape...

Yeah, I realized that my math was off with the delay, after noticing yours was 500ms. I'm going to try a couple other things to get it smoother as well. The stock boot animation has a small animated gif in the middle of the screen with a black background, so I imagine the phone can handle that easier than a full 480x320 animation, so that's my next step. I was actually just about to post my animation in a separate thread, so I'll link that post here when I've done that.
EDIT: My initial attempt is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583094
There's still work to be done, so don't judge me to hard!

[Q] How to upload the home screen pictures ?

I saved the home screen pictures. How to upload these pictures, same with these?
Thanks~~
Anyone help ????
Click manage attachments on the additional info section.
Same as you attached the other two images
I mean ... I saved the screenshot pictures. I want to display the Picture (included home screen and phone ), not only home screen picture.
I hope you can get my meaning, my english is poor...
I think what the OP is asking is how would somebody go about creating an image that includes the physical phone; not just a screen grab of what is displayed on the phone. In the images he attached as examples you are seeing the whole device, not just a screen grab.
I've often wondered how people go about this myself. I guess you just find a decent hi-res shot of the phone and Photoshop a screen cap onto it, then 'shop the outcome onto a nice background?

Yes!!! you get my meaning!
However, I am disappointed. I think some website will help me to create the image if I provided the screenshot and select my phone model.

If it were me i would just find a nice picture of the phone, resize the screen capture to fit the screen area on that picture and paste it on, and then paste the resulting image onto a background. Using a drop shadow around the phone image would give a sense of depth to the whole thing, making it look like the phone was above the background.
There's probably better ways of doing it but i'm just a n00b in these matters.
Ah i see. Yeah these are all achieved in photoshop and to be honest are simple to create.
If you are feeling a bit daring you could also create the phone though with the below a base guide for creating the whole image (i know the tutorial is on the ipoop but it'll serve its purpose as an example i suppose );

[Q] resizing boot animations

I've foudn a fantastic LCARS boot animation that id like to use on my Note but it is a little two small. Does anyone know how to resize it please.
I have tried to edit the desc file to 1280 x 800 and also 800 x 1280 but it wont work. It is either distorted or all I get is a black screen while the boot sound is played....im using a seperate boot ogg file.
Here is the link to the boot animation file

Thanks in advance and a large cookie to whoever does it :silly:
theres an app called Absolute System that can do it, Unfortunately it is a paid app

EDIT: found this, I think its what you need

thanks il give it a try.
Would i just copy the bootanimation.zip to my phone then run it through this programme?
yes, once the program has created it, move it to your phone and replace the original one with the one you made
What about ones someone else has made but just need resizing?
I should imagine it would be the same as creating your own, Just edit the resolution and let the program generate it ??
Ive never actually used the program i just remember seeing it one time, and when you asked about it i remembered

if the animation comes in typical zip file, you should be able to unpack it and just resize all the pics,
or am I missing something? (sorry, now unable to check the file by myself)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
ITs ok bud i managed to sort it out
can someone resize this

Just a couple of questions (Insane project inside)

Hello everybody! Being an idiot myself, i've always admired what everyone of you might've already seen, i'm talking about this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFHshctPO9E
Since i've been sleeping not so much lately, i came up with an average insane idea and i hope anybody could help me to create something AWESOME.
I'm talking about the vid, exactly at 1:54. That's where the elevator scene is, and ends at 2:02.
Now, about my idea:
How cool would a live wallpaper be? But not a looped one, is it possible to create a live wallpaper that activates everytime you slide through the home tabs? To put it simple, i'd like to create a live wallpaper that opens the elevator doors when you slide through tabs. I don't want anyone to make this job for me, i just want to know if it's possible and how should i begin to make it. And i will of course share it once is finished.
Thank you for your attention.
Gangnam style yes, it is possible i think, but i am not an LW developer, so, let any other person talk.

Thanks for the reply, i was starting to lose any hope
I had a random look at how to create live wallpapers, and it doesn't seem that hard, but what i want to do is no ordinary wallpaper. I want it to start its animation when touched, or swiped. That's the tricky part i'm trying to understand.
Making a looped one
1.DL the full video in 720p quality
2.Use an video editing program to cut the part you want
3.DL & install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ccpcreations.android.VLW&hl=en and use it to set your video as a live wallpaper
4.Enjoy

Thanks alot! But what extensions do this program read?
Edit: That's not what i was looking for. I need the animation to run when i swipe through the tabs, not a simply looping video. But thanks for your help.
