2.2 froyo update Questions? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody knows or have any clues what are the specs on the new 2.2 froyo updates ,i was just talking to a tech from Google and told me that (he even stutter)that he can't give that info cause he wasn't allow to.But i have a feeling its going to be and i hope they fix the multi touch screen issue....

the version number will be > 2.1

i don't think the ota update to froyo will physically replace our screens lol. as the issues with the screens are hardware related.

htc confirms froyo for legend in 2 weeks

I just read this over on phandroid here's a link just take out the space after the .
phandroid. com/2010/06/22/htc-delivering-froyo-to-the-htc-desire-and-legend-within-the-next-two-weeks/
Already got froyo on my n1 and it's sweet. I wonder how much of a speed boost the legend will gain?
let's just hope you are right about this i'm dying to see froyo on my legend and starting to regret for picking legend over desire

same here.. but still looks cooler than Desire
except the "antenna" at the bottom, it's quite loose, the only thing that I don't like hardware-wise
hope that Froyo will improve it software-wise
by the way, just checked the original source (a german site) and they have update from today - we are not getting Froyo in two weeks.. everything is indefinite....
Here is the original source.
Translated by google:
HTC has denied through his PR agency, that there will be two weeks in an operating system update for the Desire and the Legend. The statement was based on a misunderstanding. It is certain that the HTC Hero will receive in the next two weeks, his update to Android 2.1. In the update for the HTC Desire remains vague and will deliver an update to the third quarter. Whether and when to upgrade to the Legend Android 2.2 get, you do not know yet.

To me this more and more sounds like the Legend is definitely not getting FroYo. They would confirm it by now otherwise (like they did for the Desire).

what? you're totally wrong, htc and desire will have froyo in the same time as they had the other updates together in the past.

Uh, the article actually directly says this won't happen. Google translate failed.
Well I've heard multiple times before this that customer service reps from htc have also confirmed the update to froyo for the legend. The most recent being an email from a customer service rep stating that the user fear not about his flash playing troubles because android 2.2 and incidentally flash 10.1 would be released for the htc legend within the next 2 weeks.
Follow this up by the recent release of flash 10.1 for android 2.2 and the release of the android 2.2 source code being released today the statement of "within the next 2 weeks" seem to be exactly what is happening. Not only is android 2.2 pretty much here but will be available sooner rather then later. To add further flame to the fire htc repeatedly said android 2.2 will be supported by almost all 2010 devices and with the desire being more widely available and more powerful it is more likely to be put in with definite android 2.2 compatible even though the desire and legend get almost always get updates at the same time.
The most likely reason the statement was pulled? Well it must simply be due to google not publishing the source code yet, thus letting people essentially know froyo is ready.
Htc most certainly can't pull the plug on 2.2 before google itself does. But! Now that it has published final froyo source code it is 99.9% done and is most likely waiting to be uploaded to the server.
My uneducated guess is that we'll see froyo on the legend by mid july at the latest.
Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Go read about the HTC Hero. HTC's all about wasting time.
Good news, i am waiting it. BTW, does anyone have link to stock ROM froyo for any device? Pls give me the link, i'll try to port it for legend.

Well, HTC may be about "wasting time" but I assure you a phone carrier isn't about wasting money on a device that will essentially be obsolete within the month they release it. Case in point no north american phone carrier's are introducing any android devices that aren't running android 2.2 or able to upgrade to it, why should bell/virgin mobile be any different?

The legitimate release hasn't been release, although litterally 5 minutes ago I saw reports on endgadget that small ota's of frf83 we're infact being pushed out via ota right now.
Also in this forum section someone is currently developing froyo and hopes to release it by the weekend, maybe send that person a pm?

Gingerbread, New widgets?

Hey guys I've never seen why sense or motoblur or other types of overlays of android get the more interactive widgets. I mean froyo gave us some tips And considering that the Gingerbread update expected later this year is supposed to be aimed toward the users interaction with the software (as in google music) do you think we will also be seeing new widgets, that at least scroll , aimed at the user or something to that effect?
As in a contact or bookmark type thing like sense ui or especially some sort of messaging widget or do you think google would just do this through the market like an app for a widget? considering their new idea of ota updates is supposedly coming through the market instead (or even leave it up to the market and developers?)
Just wondering if anyone else is thinking about this as well...I think it would be nifty.
I think gingerbread is going to completely change Android. Probably a combo of the Palm cards.
I'm seriously anticipating Gingerbread and hoping that it is a complete revamping however keeping the Android we know and love...I'm afraid to get too hype though, as I don't want to be let down at all.
Do you think the nexus will receive gingerbread 3.0?

Why wouldn't Google update their developer phone to the latest version? If you are worried over a N2 or something, Gingerbread is supposed to be out late this year, IF they release an N2 it will be in January at the earliest, and even then they will still support the N1 since it's nowhere close to being obsolete

[Q] Where is Samsung Official Froyo 2.2 Rom

Someone needs to put all these posts in order! and first of all establish a filing system! tags(well who puts tags?? maybe forced tick boxes) or brackets or something that will make it easier to find stuff!
That being said, can someone please point me to the official froyo for galaxy s? I cannot make kies work for some reason and I need to do it manually.
I have froyo but is either ****ed up, or beta, or something, cause it crashes like hell! Baseband version is I9000xxJP2
While you are at it, a guide on what is JPM, JP2, JP♥, etc is would be nice!
Thanks!
EDIT: I found one guide for installing 2.2 on the galaxy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also try this website: http://www.samfirmware.com which has all the "official" firmware for Galaxy.
Still it would be nice to know about all the JP*versions...
There is no official froyo as yet. JPM and JP6 were briefly released earlier this month but they are by no means complete and still seem to have a number of issues. Samsung said that a new super fast official froyo release will be with us sometime in November. If you're brave enough you can try one of the releases available, I did recently, but I've gone back to JM1 that was supplied on my phone.
I know its an annoying and long wait but with any luck this will give Samsung the chance to get it right

Oh well, I thought the stuff they put up on their site was the official thing, and everyone is saying that they are rolling out froyo for the past couple of weeks...
it is VERY annoying, especially with all the good modders and coders that are around in xdadevs, and to be honest they prolly can build a froyo version much faster and cleaner than the "official" one....

Umm.. You do realise the modders here mostly take the Samsung code and enhance it right? Modding ROM's is a lot more difficult then writing/maintaining them (remember, the modders don't touch the drivers).
The situation does suck, but I actually respect many companies which delay releases more than those that don't. Because those that consistently deliver on schedule, often deliver their software with MAJOR issues (issues which may even require hardware to be returned for repair)
You can find here, on my PC:
c:\Users\Developer_007\.android\Froyo
FroYo for unbranded phones should be here early November. For carrier models Samsung have stated by the end of November. All we can do is play the waiting game. It gets delayed, delayed and delayed. Will probably get delayed till November, who knows?
Where you get information about november? Prooflink please!

From Samsung UK on facebook 2 minutes ago
"We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed."

So, another month of waiting. Fantastic.
I'm curious if this will be also the case for the rest of Europe?
They just replied to a customer asking when in November and they said
We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November. The key benefits of Froyo will include Google maps with navigation, as well as improved browser performance.
In Singapore too. Samsung Singapore has said that they are almost done with the froyo 2.2 and it should be release on schedule! =)

Att will they update froyo to 2.3

Im on a kb2 froyo bought from att are they going to release a GB update or did the S II release kill the initiative
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No one really knows. But Samsung has 2 version of GB that they have been working with. Nothing to do but wait. FYI ATT doesn't have to release it, samsung could release on their site (its a possibility)
In case you guys didn't see this, it's the official announcement from ATT that GB is indeed coming to Captivate. We just don't know exactly when...

Yea but took how long for froyo? And with new devices like Galaxy S2 Galaxy Note, so on and forth captivate isnt high on their list.
Is it possible to go into the att store and get the update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well, to my understanding, the thread was about IF they were releasing GB. We know that they are. And, yes, I too agree that they GSII is a priority for the company. But I am sure there is some group of people at Samsung and ATT that have the design and release of GB for Captivate a priority. The reason we won't get it for a while (I believe) is because they want us to go buy the new phones instead of getting free updates now.
Froyo took a long time, indeed. But again, I believe that OS upgrades are released at strategic times, not necessarily when they are ready.
I believe I read that Samsung said it will deliver the newest android os for 18 months after devices are sold. So yes they (samsung) will be giving us gingerbread. I would THINK it will be AFTER other phones like the SGS2 are available for a bit. So that also should mean that the SGS2 at least will also see IceCream Sandwich soon enough. Whether the Captivate gets icecream sandwich officially should be the bigger question. I know I read this somewhere on the net that Samsung said this is how they would be doing it from now on, they are trying to keep people happier in the future rather than the bad Rep they got over the froyo fiasco with our devices. I am sure if you did a search on the net you should be able to find those articles somewhere.

7' Galaxy Tab Question.......

This guy may give me a 7' Samsung Galaxy Tab White today. Just wanted to know...can that one get Honeycomb 3.0 on it it without ROOTING? Will it OTA update to Honeycomb????
60 something looks...and no one knows. Guess the answer is no since i don't see it anywhere on google that it says yes. Even tho i saw some kind of Honeycomb Port its suppose to have. Think its for the bigger 8.9 and above tho.
I do not think anyone but Samsung knows the answer. From hardware there should not be any problem to get honeycomb or ics. But it up to Samsung to give an official update or not.

WOW...so if its not updated yet....it prolly wont be. Should be past 2.2 by now. It had Navigation tho right?
most of the 7" tabs on the market have a 2.3.x update available (think the Wifi only p1010 is the exception so far) so Gingerbread is there. Now will we see an "official" ICS update? who knows.. but at this point i doubt it. HC, nope..

Im on hold talking to a LIVE agent now in chat. Asking a bunch of questions.
Well..they said the Galaxy has 3.0....but only the 10.1 inch one. He said as far as the 7 inch Tabs..1st he said yes. Then i go " Are you sure...because most still has 2.2"
Then he goes "They cant say right now..because they may say one thing..and it may not happen". Not far to us they said. But if the 7 inch dont have 2.3 now..i doubt they will get any higher. Im not getting the 7inch from the dude after all. He doesnt want to trade.

Samsung Kies is a software used to manage your device.
It handles the firmwares updates, backups and stuff like that.
You can download it from Samsung website.
As for the official honeycomb for the 7", if I were you, I wouldn't expect it...
Anyway, it's actually pretty easy to flash a rom, do some reading and you'll see it's really really easy...
I have the same issue. I dont mind rooting it. There are several confusing directions to upgrade to Honeycomb from Froyo. Can anyone point at the right link?
