MMS question - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I am hoping to find a quick and easy answer here, as im sure im just a fool and can't figure this out...
How do I send a MMS Message with Audio and Picture attached? With my 9700 I could send a picture and attach audio to it. If I could do it with that DingleBerry, then their has to be a way on N1?
Thanks,
Blaine

Hmmm I even just tried with handcent to attach a pic AND some audio, and it wouldn't work. Guess its not possible. Though I never tried this on any of my Nokia phones so I DON'T know the difference. Pretty cool that blackberry could do it.

Ok, I figured a little something out..If anyone gives a rats patooey. You can go to attach when you are composing a message and click "slideshow" It lets you attach a picture, and a ringtone. However I can not attach certain ringtones and I can not figure out why. I thought maybe file size/type might have had something to do with it, but apparently it does not?
Can anyone mess with the "slideshow" option and maybe enlighten me on why it will let me attach some ringtones, and not others? On Handcent I have max mms size set to 600kb, but the pic and ringtones I am trying to combine are not larger than that. Any help guys?
Thanks as always,
Blaine

Problems with MMS messages

Ok all the MMS settings are correct, I put them in myself and know them (work for AT&T) When I get a picture I don't see the picture it just shows like a little GIF image of a camera but no picture. I haven't tested to see if I could send but I'm sure I can. I don't know why it's happening. Could anyone help. No one at my job seems to know either.

Are you having this problem from one particular person, or with everyone who sends you an MMS?
Are they all coming from the same device type? It could be the settings from the person you're receiving from.
Everyone. i even sent myself an mms message and it couldnt open the picture just shows a GIF image of a little camera. It used to work before and i don't know what happen. The pictures are like 13k in size so it isn't a size factor. When I receive an MMS i get that little GIF instead of the picture and at the bottom theres a player that plays nothing.
double tap on the camera gif
bro i've tried to double tap and tap and hold i knew it wouldnt work but I said what the hell I had nothing to lose. I have girls sending me really exclusive pictures and I cant see them!! ahhh!! mind f***!
I'm trying to figure this out, i'm going to post a screen shot of what I see as soon as i find my sync cable.
i dunno about AT&T but i work at T-mobile and you cant recive a MMS until you have sent 1 first. we always get people to send an MMS to their own number and see if it comes through.
hope that helps
Odd things have happened to my messaging system twice. The first time my phone wouldn't even allow me to send an sms at all. I would click the text icon onscreen or try to set up one of the soft keys as a short cut to get to it all to no avail. Fix: Hard reset. The second time my MMS system was messed up. When a MMS message was sent to me rather than get the message my phone would get a notification that there was a message to be downloaded. I would try to download it and the message never came. The techs at Att kept telling me that the message download prompt was normal (which it wasnt, also showed me how much they knew of their own products). I tried for days to figure out what was going on and the only fix was to hard reset the device again and install all my apps on one by one and ensure that my MMS system was working. Once i got everything set back up and ensured that everything was working properly I ray Sprite Backup and made a backup of the working rom. This may not be the same case for you but if you google it you'll find that when this happened to others a hard reset was the only fix. Good luck.
I fixed the problem by doing a master reset, what I was trying to avoid. It was a pain my rear end because I had so much custom things done in the registry and having to do all that again was so annoying. I am able to s/r mms messages again. Weird.
Just an update, shortly after master reset it happened again. I uninstalled programs one by one and found that one of poorlyducks vista skins was causing the issue. It was the audio manager skin or the vista dialer can't remember which one. After I uninstalled them I was able to see picture messages again. I even installed it again to confirm and it was the culprit. Heads up guys

MMS picture in full size?

When I receive a mms picture message, the picture always comes out extra small then it should be. Is there anyway to fix the dimension size and get the MMS picture view in full size?

I think it must depend on the size of the picture you've been sent - as mine have always been full screen. Bear in mind that the Diamond has a VGA (640x480) screen and most phones send MMS pics at a lesser resolution.
The way to view full screen is to open the MMS pic, click 'Contents' which will then let you see text01.txt and Image001.jpg (or similar) which are the parts of the message. If you hold your finger / stylus on Image001.jpg then you get an option to Save. If you save the file then it gets saved in My Pictures and is viewable in the TouchFlo Photos and Videos... which means you can zoom in using the scrollwheel.
Your operator can also cut down the size to save traffic. It's done on the mmsc server, I believe.
I am also experiencing this problem, The Pics are only coming in at 4k, and when saved as suggested by p3eps It won't let me zoom in. Pics are about the size of a finger nail on the screen which just isn't good enough!
I am going to phone o2 to see if they are restricting something but I am on a unlimited data package so I don't see why they would.
If anyone else has any thoughts would appreciat it!

I've experienced the same problem with my original Orange ROM.
Since I've flashed my Diamond with the original HTC ROM I am able again to receive MMS picture in their original size and not in thumbnail mode !!!
But I've experienced this problem with other HTC models. I think it's a problem with the ROM install. A hard reset could fix the problem. Perhaps.
O2 in the UK do this, if the network doesn't recognise your phone it automatically downsizes the picture. I had this problem with my htc s710. I had to edit some registry setting to make the o2 network think my phone was an xda and it worked.
I cant find the post i found it in, but in sure if was under the networking folder on this forum.

Enlarging pics in email (zoom capable at all?)

Hey guys, I get a few different emails that have pictures with surrounding text. And since i've upgraded from WM 6.0 to 6.1 for some reason the pics are so small that i can't read the text that is on them. Is there anyway to enlarge the pics at all or zoom into them? I searched and saw someone refer to scrolling, that didn't work. And as far as changing the text size, well that changes the text size AROUND the pics, but not the pic itself.
anyone got any insight? i've started to notice that with lots of my emails when i download the pics they are all scaled down in size which is making them blurry and illegible
ok, i tried changing roms, changing from imap4 to pop and nothing is working. and its not just the dilbert daily email i receive, its all emails with pics in them. all images are blurry, and im' not sure whats up with it. does ANYONE have any idea how to fix blurry images. tried looking under gmail support for pop/imap4 and didn't find a thing.
Emails with embedded images will have them resized whatever you do, short of switching to using another mail application. If the images are attachments then clicking on them will bring up the image viewer and it will be fine.

the reason I've been concerned about it is I used to have the emails open up just fine when I first got my phone and set up email with the q-mobile 1.2 ROM. I dunno if the ROM somehow effected it, but I was always able to read the images in the emails. as soon as I went to 6.1 I lost it. tried 6.1 w/out the bloaatware, duttya 6.1, and not a treo fans manilla 2d now. but if email is always "supposed" to be like this I guessi have to settle then

I also faced this issue with the daily dilbert mails. no i do the below and it works fine.
First click on download internet pictures. Dont click on tab to scroll right now. Let it download the pictues, and then click the tab to scroll right link and you can see the comic is a bigger size. hope this helps

ok ill give that a shot tomorrow when I get their next email, hopefully it works
i dont know the hell is going on with my phone, but after a while it went back to display the images properly, now its back to showing them improperly. And i just figured out whats wrong with it. Its not that its not downloading the pictures appropriately, its that when i click the "tap to scroll" it doesn't "unwrap" the images all the way. for example, at the top of the email there is actually a long picture selction bar that says "home-->most popular-->strips-->animation->mashups->blog" in my desktop email these are all in line with one another. but for some reason why i click tap to scroll, blog appears on a second line.
anyone know whhat could be stopping the images from fully "unwrapping"?

App to allow writting of texts/SMS messages on PC?

One of the great things about the Nokia and PC Suite wass the ability to read and write text messages form my pc when hooked up via bluetooth.
Is this possible with android/Magic?
I guess not then....
I know the Magic has its own keyboard but it is still much easier to type on a real one. It also has the benefit of making me look busy at work
I have written a app that let's you telnet to the android device over wifi to send sms. It's pretty basic and has no other features but sending a SMS to the number you specify with the message you want.
Leave your mail if you want me to send it to you.
Cheers

Thanks mockillo, yes please, I've PM'ed you. By the looks of the response I'm thinking you should get this on the Market!
Never got anything through. Just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this? A bluetooth (if it can work!) version would be really great.
Sorry for the delay guys, there's a gamebreaking bug in it now, which I cant figure out. And my son is taking up too much time now. I'll send it to you all as soon as I've figured it out.
Cheers,
mockillo
Pardon the delay. Here it is. A really simple way of sending SMS from your PC via your phone.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O8E6X51V
Just telnet to the IP listed in the app on port 7777, and send:
sendsms¤¤phonenumber¤¤message
It logs to logcat if something doesnt work right.
Cheers,
Mockillo
if u do a little resarch on google (or on Droid Explorer)
you will find this

That certainly looks a better alternative

How do you recieve bigger MMS pictures?

When I recieve a MMS picture and go to view it, it is very small is only like 3-5kbs. Is there a way to set it to download the picture full quality?
It's a curse of having a WVGA screen. There needs to be a way to resize/enlarge MMS pictures within the messaging app.
If there is a way to do this, I'd like to know too...
It's fixable - do as this message says and the pics will be full size and not compressed to the 5kb you stated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2926070&postcount=14
Possible fix ...
I had a similar problem on my xperia with the mms pictures showing up very small.
The attached cab fixed mine along with a friends x1 with the same issue.
(Tried to find the original thread I found this but couldn't so I've just reuploaded the cab)
I will give the cab a try since the rededit seems harder. thanks guys!
Ok, so i gave the cab a try and it made it so i couldnt even send or receive mms!
I wanted to to the other suggestion but as i have an X1, the lines are different

I had same issues initially but via regedits upped the send limit to 600kb. I also insert pictures from within the drafted mms. If I select a pic to send via mms directly from say picture viewer, I still get crappy small pic. From within mms it is fine.

Do you mean you didn't try the regedit because it says NokiaN97? It's fine, just put it in, it's just for your network's servers to have an idea of what MMS your phone can handle - NokiaN97 settings are good for the X1.
Hmm ... strange, it fixed the small mms images recieved on my x1.
(I will remove the cab from the previous post.)
Where has the cab gone?
try this cab i made and let me know if it works.
