Samsung Kies Error Message when contacts are being backed up
Hi,
I too had faced an identical problem after upgrading the O.S. to Froyo on my Galaxy S.
I was able to solve this problem, after I deleted all my Contacts on my Galaxy S and then reloaded all my Contacts from the Contacts Backup file that I had fortunately created before upgrading to Froyo.
I am now able to backup, once again, all my Contacts on my PC and also synch effortlessly with Outlook.
Hopefully, you too have a backup for your Contacts. If so, do try this out. It should work. Good luck.
Best way İs:
Go to kies
open contacts
save as your contacts as vcf files
take this file to your phone
in contacts, choose take from sd
Thanks for the tips I will try that later today...Has anyone been able to update their outlook calender to the phone? I used to be able to now it does not work after upgrading to Froyo.
I do have the same problem, I updated to Foyo 2.2 and since then I just can't back up my contacts....Kies just sucks.
I have the same problem with Froyo Samsung GT-I5800 too using Kies. Can't load contacts from phone. It means can't backup, manage. It was easy to add pictures and etc. Interesting where is problem: Kies or Froyo? It would be nice to get fix for that.
Fail!
Whenever i try to do anything with my contacts ... on the read from the phone itself it says "Failed to load, due to error"
Similar is the case with the sms read by KIES
I can read all contacts on my sim card though
Samsung support just sucks, they can't resolve the problem.
Any alternative to Kies? I need to save my contacts or backup the whole phone.
Any idea how to resolve this??!!!
put a SD card . .and export contacts to SD card,
this is the way i have managed it

thnx mate, problem solved
First of all tnx for taking the trouble to reply. Unfortunatly my problem is not solved yet.
The dbdata directory you mentioned is empty (or ASTRO doesn't show them).
Would this procedure. remove all my calender entries?
one step closer?
Ok I managed to enter de dbdata directory after getting Root Explorer.
I followed the procedure Adevem described.
Didn't dare to do this with my calender though. Is it safe or will I loose all my entries as well?

Just backup your calendar with Titanium Backup or sync it with your google account before deleting the folder.
Great. That worked.
Can I use Titanium to backup my panel settings? Can,t find the file I need to backup

[Q] can't restore contact from titanium backup

HI there
i recently restored my phone after flashing a different rom. everything went well and i restored almost everything using titanium backup. i clicked for "install missing apps and data" but unfortunately i could not restore my phone contacts. my contacts are also not synced with gmail. please help?
Did you click on the button in the top middle to bring up the list of programs, and restore contacts then reboot?(assuming you backed it up of course). Cause all it sounds like you did was that batch restore of MISSING apps. The contacts.apk was included so it didn't get restored.
i'm curious about this too. I dont need to restore my contacts but I've installed custom roms for a few friends who didnt have their contacts sync'd with gmail and after restoring what I thought was the contacts, it didnt actually restore.
so I've had this problem before, too. I'm curious to hear from someone who successfully restored phone contacts from TiBu.
Always sync your contacts with Google
I never used TiBu for contacts or calendar entries.

this is what I tell my friends before I install a custom rom lol
Not sure if this thread is dead or not but I just flashed my brother's phone and used TiBu to restore missing apps + data. For contacts I tried restoring [Contacts/Calls] Storage 2.2, rebooted and still nothing. I dont know what else can I do now. Is there any way I can pull the information out manually from TiBu backup files? I opened com.android.providers.contacts-20110625-144656.tar.gz and noticed the raw data is in the files. Any ideas would be helpful....
Thanks!

Did he sync contacts with his Google account? If so sign into Gmail from the phone and sync. I use the Backup with Gmail from the market to backup calls and texts too. All of my call history, contacts, and texts are synching with my Gmail, works great.

Restart the phone after restoring apps and system data.
When it comes to backing up my contact list I'm Old School. I still do it the same way I did on my Palm OS device. Export to a vCard file (*.vcf). Since android still has that feature I occasionally make a backup of my contacts as a *.vcf and copy it to my SD card, PC or dropbox. However, after reading this post I gave it a try and successfully restored my contacts, txt messages, call logs etc with TiBu. After a restore (I was able to confirm that the 'Restore missing apps + all system data' batch restore will restore your contacts etc. However they don't show in your contact list after a restore. You can try to force close the Contacts and Contact storage from the 'Manage Applications' -> 'Running' screen, and when you restart your contacts after that they should appear. However tried and true method is the simplest.
=> Do a Re-boot.
I tried it successfully four times and doing a restart of the phone worked the best, smoothest and easiest. Then all my contacts were successfully restored.
I performed this on a I897 running FireFly 3.0.2.2 (Froyo based ROM) I used the latest version of TiBu 3.9.0.1 free version and made sure that busybox was updated to 1.18.4
If you're worried about TiBu not working, exporting your contacts to a *.vcf file does give you a nice file that you can then import natively into Android and most other mobile OS. (I've personally verified that *.vcf works on Pantech and Lg messaging phones, Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Thunderbird, Outlook)

Yea, don't use TiBU to restore any system apps like contacts or messaging ESPECIALLY when changing roms/android os versions.
I would recommend backing up ur contacts to your google account. Also, see if u can find a .vcf file in your TiBU backup

Where are the MEMOS stored on the phone?

I need to reflash a rom because my phone is constantly saying android.process acore has stopped and I cant use the phone properly, But I can access the storage.
I have been looking for what to backup to keep my memos but I cant seem to find anything.
There is no data/data or databases etc as suggested.
/data/data/PACKAGE_NAME/databases/.
/data/data/net.wzdworks.android.wzdmemo
These two suggested locations do not exist on my phone, but I can still access the memo and see all the notes just fine there.
I am running darkys 9.5 rom
code.
cp /dbdata/databases/com.sec.android.app.memo/Memo.db /mnt/sdcard/tmp/Memo.db
I don't see any of that.
I made a backup of everything on the phone.
Here are all the files on the phone.
://i40.tinypic.com/erztyq.jpg (put http on the front before the : to see the pic)
://i39.tinypic.com/2n7f28.jpg.
The files have to be there somewhere, Its incredible every place tells me to look in a different place.
I tried samsung kies to backup memos before I formatted and that kept crashing too, SO I just backed up the whole phone in the hopes someone can tell me how to access my memos from stores files, Or what to copy paste into my new install to get then back.
Oh and if someone could tell me where the contacts saves to phone are stored that would also help
Hi
It's easier than that!
Just sync your memo an contacts with Kies, install new ROM then sync again.
You'll have your memos back.
P.S. at lest worked for me

I managed to get GMS running (10.1.0.136) (no USB-Pendrive)

So after hours and hours of following loads of different Guides on YouTube I finally managed to get GMS to fully work again.
I followed his Guide, for the most part, but did some things different.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqEZMX6Kl8&t=37s
[EDIT: Set your system language to english after resetting your phone, until you (hopefully) got GMS running]
(1) As soon as i reset my device I opened AppGallery, went to settings and froze automatic App-Updates.
(2) After that I uninstalled the Backup App by going into Settings > Apps > Apps > (search for Backup and show system apps) > uninstall
(3) Instead of getting the Purple G App via a USB Pendrive I got it by restoring a (different) backup with hisuite.
(4) Instead of grabbing the files from a pendrive I had them on my internal storage
(5) After getting the PlayStore to work for the very first time (video timestamp 04:59) I installed alot of apps (important!)
Other than that I followed his guide exactly.
*(3) Get the latest version of HiSuite on your computer.
Unpack Backup file for Hisuite.rar. Put the folder inside of it into documents / HiSuite / backup.
Connect your device to your computer via USB Cable. Choose "transfer files" on your phone.
Go into your phones' settings, search for "HDB" and allow HiSuite to use HDB. (HiSuite will now be installed on your phone)
Open it and give it all the permissions that it needs.
On your computer, enter the Code that the Hisuite App shows on your phone.
Hit restore.
HiSuite will try to install the Backup App that we uninstalled before. It's gonna tell you that the installation failed, just ignore it and try to restore the Backup again.
(Backup File for Hisuite.rar): http://www.mediafire.com/file/a7wbsq1hjkz7vnr/Backup_file_for_Hisuite.rar/file
*(5) List of apps that I installed at that point:
Chrome
Google
Google One
Assistant
Drive
Keep Notes
Home
Street View
YouTube
Maps
Gmail
Whatsapp
Play Games
Facebook
Let me know if this worked for you ^^

Do you get gmail notifications? I don't get it and I have got everything else working fine.
Did you get any notifications in general?

They *did* work for a little while after installing GMS, now they don't show up anymore.
I will try to find a workaround ^^

Whatsapp seems to work fine as of now.
Im trying to find a solution for other apps, wish me luck
The only way to have push service notification working is to icebox google framework. In that way u'll have notifications and you can even add how many gmail accounts you want. At the price of Google Play Store, you have to use Aurora Store or defroze google framework when you need it
