Major problems, Browser "Web Page Not Available" - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm updating this thread because I have even more problems.
I was able to grab a different Micro SDHC card this morning and I re-flashed the SuperD 1.11 ROM on the phone. It went fine and I tested the browser first thing. It hung for about 30 seconds, then loaded my home page. I thought I'd solved the problem finally, but I'm back to a non-functioning browser. The browser app opens, the progress bar starts, and then nothing. Web pages simply won't load. I have data up and down with the apps, text messaging works, phone calls work fine, just a dead browser.
One more new problem, maybe related. When I reboot, the widgets on my home screen sometimes fail to load. It's intermittent, not on every boot. I get the "Problem loading widget" error in each one's place. I can drag them to the trash and re-add them and they work fine.
I re-added all my apps directly from the market this time, re-downloading and reinstalling them on the clean install with the new SD card. I did a Nandroid backup after first running each app once to make sure everything was working. When the browser failed again, I did a Nandroid restore from recovery. It took about 20 minutes (don't think that's normal) and then when I rebooted I still have the browser failure. If I've uploaded correctly there's a pic of a very slow restore in progress.
At this point, I have to consider giving up. I would really like to have this phone working well again, and maybe donate it to someone locally. I have ordered another phone (HTC Desire) since it was about time for an upgrade, but I really want to solve this and fix the problem Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Below is my original post, with what I had tried so far.
Thanks - Tom
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm having major problems with the stock browser the last couple of days. I can't get any web pages to load.
I have data up and down no problem, over 2G, 3G and WiFi. My APN settings are correct, I've checked them repeatedly. Market, widgets, apps all connect great. In the search widget I even get the search suggestions as I type.
I had been using the stable Cyanogen builds for months now, with little trouble. This is a new problem for me.
I've cleared the browser cookies, cache, etc from within the browser settings. I also cleared the data from Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Browser.
I'm experiencing this problem on more than one ROM. I tried the Cyanogen 5.0.7 test3 and gave up trying to make it work. (browser + USB mounting wouldn't work for me with Cyanogen) I am now on my second install of SuperD 1.11, same problem with the browser. I even went all the way back and re-rooted and re-flashed everything from the DREAIMG.nbh through to the Haykuro SPL, Radios, Amon-RA recovery v1.6.2 and SuperD again. I did that twice the last two days.
I've wiped the SD card and re-partitioned it correctly repeatedly while troubleshooting each ROM install. I'm using GParted w/Ubuntu 9.10 if that's important.
I've tried leaving the apps on the phone's memory, and with appstoSD, same thing.
I've tried both recommended radios (2_22_19_26I & 2_22_23_02), each radio tried on each ROM.
Tried fix_permissions from both terminal emulator and recovery console, I get "Permission denied" on each line, looping endlessly with the same error when it gets to com.google.android.server.checkin, and I cancel out of it.
Honestly, I'm a bit of a noob and I can't believe I haven't bricked this thing yet. There is a ton of good info on the wikis and many how-tos I have read and searched. At this point I am out of ideas and don't have a clue what to do next. I may be missing something basic here, but I can't find it. I have great backups of everything and so I don't mind all the flashing and reinstalling. I just want to have a functioning browser. Any suggestions?
tl;dr Ahhhhhhhhh! Browser no good?! Why?
On the bright side, I'm learning so much now with all this troubleshooting...

I installed Opera and Dolphin browser just to see what would happen. Dolphin failed exactly the same way, but Opera is working fine. I'll make it the default browser and just go from there. Too bad about the stock browser, huh?
Anyone.....Bueller......Bueller?

I'm also having problems with the stock browser on Cyanogen 5.0.7 based roms (tried test 1/2 and Superbad1.2.1). Browsing works sometimes on 3G but almost never on wifi. Other programs and widgets can connect just fine on both 3G and wifi. So I went back to a nandroid backup of Vegas Legend and 3G and wifi browsing works just fine. So I thought what about other Eclair roms and flashed Kings Eclair 1.9. Here it also works as it suppose to.So now I'll try test 4 or a rom based of it, wish me luck! I'll let you know if I manage to get it to work...

Good luck Enberg,
My problem spans multiple re-formats of the card and different ROMs. Cyanogen's 5.0.7 and SuperD 1.11 both. The problem can't be with their ROMs, since they are working for others. There is something wrong with this phone, or I am doing something wrong, I don't know. I fail to understand how a problem like this could persist between installs, re-rooting, changing SD cards, etc. I'm totally baffled. Everything but the browser works. The Opera Mini browser is my only option for browsing, and I just figured that out yesterday while troubleshooting.
I try the browser on 3G, WiFi, even tried a neighbor's open WiFi to see if my router was somehow the root of the problem. No luck.
My new HTC Desire is shipping today so I will just let this go and trash the G1 in a few days. It's too bad because I really like it still and ran different ROMs/themes, etc with no issues like this. Time to move on.

Solved it! After numerous reboots and reflashing I remebered that old Hero ports usually required that you on first boot skipped all accounts setup etc and once you got to the start screen immediately start market. Then setup a google account and accept EULA for market. If this was not done market would not function. So by old habit this is what I always do after flashing something new. Since my last post Ive tried at least many different rooms (eclair without sense like CM5, ZXK Eclair and Superbad...) this way with the same result, none working stock browser (also Dolphin and Skyfire none working) on wifi but market, email, Opera etc working. On 3G everything works including stock browser.
This time I wiped everything (as usual) and flashed SuperBadCM5 V1.2.4, skipped accounts setup at first boot and once I got to the start screen I started Wifi and then started the browser and it worked! Then I started market, setup google account and accepted EULA. Then I tested turning off wifi and starting it again and browser still works!
Dont know if this procedure was what fixed it or if I was just lucky. Anyhow, I'm going to leave my phone as it is now for a while not trying to push my luck! Hope this helps.

Force close and network errors

Hello,
I have recently begun to experience a major problem with my G1 running the latest builds of Cyanogenmod (currently 4.2.11 but I have had the problem with the last few versions). What happens is that for some reason some apps force close right when I attempt to start them (Google Voice, or any app that has a camera running when it opens) and other apps can not connect to the internet. When I open apps like Pandora or Wapedia it says "A network error occured" or "Could not connect to the servers."
The weirdest part is that not all apps are affected. I can still access the internet through the default browser, and the gmail app. Also the default camera and camcorder apps do not force close and work perfectly. In addition these problems do not arrise for some time after a reinstall.
I have wiped and reinstalled different versions and even started over flashing an HTC update and then returning to a cyanogenmod version. I have wiped all the partitions on my SD card for apps2SD and recreated them. However due to the nature of the problem I have guessed it is some problem with Apps2SD but I cant figure out what it is. I have run the fix_permissions script, and attempted to remove/rebuild the market/app cache.
If anyone knows anything about how to fix this or has experience this before themselves any help would be really awesome. If any more information is needed to help diagnose this problem I will gladly post it.
Thanks again and sorry for the wall of text.
Sorry for self-bumping my post but I would really like some help because I have done everything I know of to fix the problem and looked around the internet for help but I haven't found anything similar to my problem.
Thanks
Im having this problem too and i have no idea what to do about it lol

Hard Reset after Froyo Upgrade (FRF83 & FRF91)

After upgrading to the official OTA of Froyo (non-rooted) on my AT&T N1, I noticed some of my apps either not working at all or just slooooow. Pandora for example got stuck on welcome screen. Google Nav would search endlessly for directions. Voice search fails 90% of the time (connection error). So, I deleted my online back up (unchecked it under Privacy), formated my SD card, and started from scratch. After reinstalling everything, all apps are working perfectly and flying.
Not sure if this was just my experience, but thought I'd share it in case anyone is having issues with apps after Froyo.
It's the standard computer fix all that, it's the equivalent of formatting your PC when you get fed up with Windows mucking about heh
Also, it's apparently worth clearing the cache via recovery if you're having problems as well.

Original browser and dolphin browser don't load page

Hi
i've this kind of problem:
Original browser and dolphin browser don't load any page, in wifi and in 3g, any other app that use data connection work fine.
I've this problem for 2 last day, no new app installed...
in attach logcat, any ideas?
THANKS!!
Idk
I also just started having problems with all the browsers. Running Superfly 1.3 Froyo and none of the browsers will connect. Tried Opera, Steel, Dolphin/Dolphin HD, stock and a couple of others. And no, I don't have them all installed at the same time. Starts loading then kicks back to the home screen. Cleared caches and problem still remains. Any suggestions other than a full wipe. All other apps seem to run fine.
I know that will probably be what happens but I can hope. Hate the thought of setting up the phone again with over a hundred apps.
idkidk, hope you don't mind me tacking on to your post, was searching & ran across it. Hopefully we both get fixed.

[Q] Multiple FCs with Nookie Froyo SD, CM7 SD, wifi flakey, help!

We have had our NookColor since November and haven't had any issues with it.
My experience with Android is rooting and playing around with multiple ROMs on my Moto Droid.
I recently decided to try one of the uSD ROMs on the NookColor. I first tried Nookie Froyo but I found that it was very very unstable. I thought that was odd, since there are so many people using it (albeit maybe not the uSD version) and just pressed on. I flashed gapps and the Google Services Framework process kept crashing on me. Then I reset the uSD card and tried to install some non-market apks that I had on my Moto Droid. I got android comic viewer installed and then I finally got the market to work, but the thing kept losing permission for softkeys and nothing I did (manual permissions reset with adb, the "clear data" method in settings, etc) worked.
Then I decided to try the CM7 uSD version and the first time it booted up I got several FCs to the point that I had to hard-reset the device (i.e. hold the power button until it turned off). The second boot was much better, but I noticed the wifi would not connect to my home router. I did not have this problem with Nookie Froyo, nor did I have the problem with stock NC firmware. The other problem I had was that I could not install non-market apps because the "Allow unknown sources" will not stay checked.
Any one have any idea why I'm having so much trouble? I don't think there is anything wrong with the NC since the stock system is running perfectly.
Ok so I retried CM7 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989637
The install went smooth, rebooted and the Cm7 splash screen (the looping arrow around the Android) stuck forever. I reset and tried again and it booted up. Everything seemed fine so I added my wifi hotspot. It won't connect and it just constantly tries to get an IP, disconnects, scans, rinse, repeat.
If I turn the wifi off then back on it says "Error!" and won't turn the wifi radio back on. I suspect this could be the kernel CM7 uses versus the Nookie Froyor 2.2 kernel which didn't seem to have any problems.
My question is: why do I search the forums and not really see all of these FC complaints? I have seen a few people complain about wifi cycling, but not many. Any ideas?
If you have a dlink router you have to set adhoc wifi to zero i think. Check the first cm7 sd card thread that was posted its in there somewhere
edit: also i get lots of force closes from both hc, froyo and cm7 once it starts i have to reboot usually it goes away till the next time it acts up. Tried 3 different brands and class sd cards. Hope i won't have that on gtab
Thanks for the tip. I have a Linksys running dd-wrt. I don't have any problems with stock, nor did I with Nookie Froyo, but I suppose the kernel/driver in CM7 could be working against me.
I'll look for that thread. Do you recall if there is any problem using WPA2? That's what I currently use.
Yes i was having issues and was wpa2 which nightly you running mine went away on 1 nightly or so ago

[Q] Having an issue with data speed with HTC One (M7) and Straightalk

For many months now I have had an issue with the data speed or lack of on my phone, it is there but the only thing that really works are programs that do not have timeout settings setup it seems such as syncing etc.... but things like a web browser will simply not load a page nor can I use speedtest to test the speed as it cannot even locate a site to test with.
Let me step back a bit, I got a HTC One(M7) after having a htc one X and used the same sim card. I found out that I could get LTE data if I updated my sim card, so I did that and at the time I had about a 18mb connection speed and was quite happy. A few months later I started getting the symptoms I explained above and have not disappeared. I have called many times to the customer support and they would reset something on their end and it would work temporarily but would go back quickly and by work I mean I would get like 3mb down instead of like .1.
On my latest call, the rep said, it seems to be down to 2 things, your phone or sim card so they sent me a new sim card, it is now installed and well, the same thing is happening, yeah!
In the past I have tried a different rom to see if that was it and that did not seem to resolve it either.
I am currently running
Viper 7.0.2, everything stock
has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on what to try? I am close to throwing the phone in the ocean
A couple of weird things to note that seems to point this to the phones problem is that some things work ok like pandora could stream, it may take a while to buffer up, but it plays and things like the facebook will load the text, most times it takes some considerable time to load images but it is still working for the most part. Google maps works just fine and is able to pinpoint my location and many other things but Web browsing on the other hand simply doesn't load pages.
So it weird how it is selective in what will work and what won't for example, the FB chat works in loading text, images are slow to load and searching for images is really hit or miss, mainly miss.
Anyways ideas out there, maybe clear cache of something or what?
Mines works perfectly, make sure your apn settings are right

APN settings are correct and I would think if my APN settings were not correct, nothing would work.
Basically my symptoms are that a lot of programs that require a good amount of data do not work, ie Pandora takes minutes to maybe load a song, sometimes it can't connect and moves to another song and that one works. Netflix definitely will not work, hulu etc.... these apps simple try forever to connect and never do.
I tested the standard browser, tried to load a page.... nothing, cleared cache and history and immediately tried again and boom the page came up. Within seconds it was back to not loading.
