kaiser microSD card read/write speed - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

The company I'm working for gave me an HTC Kaiser as work phone. I had a 2gb microSD card as spare, so Im using it for now. What I'm wondering is the phone's read/write speed.
I am considering to buy a 16gb class 6 microSDHC card, would that be an overkill? (not the size of course, Im going to put a lot music etc, but would class 2 or 4 be enough for it? Also, I liked this phone, but just loved HD2(some use LEO, too. I wonder why HTC uses just too many aliases, anyways). I may buy it, so even a class6 card would be overkill for tytnII, would it be an overkill for hd2, too?
Thanks in advance,

A class 6 is overkill for the Kaiser, but bigger/faster is always better. It is not overkill for the Leo.
Rule of thumb is always buy the biggest/fastest you can afford because you never know what you will be doing with it.
However, remember, if you try to drain a bathtub through a 5 cm hole or you try and drain a lake through a 5 cm hole, the same amount of water will still come out the other side.

What Memory should I use on Kaiser?

Hi guys, I am trying to buy a "SanDisk Mobile Premier 2GB Micro SD high speed", I believe it is fit for Kaiser, right?
Yep that'll work fine; be wary of buying on eBay as many tend to be fakes. Buy from a trusted reseller. I have got a 6GB for less than £40 delivered.
If your in the US, you can get great deals @ newegg.com
I purchased my 2gb microsd for 19.99, and 3 day ups is standard shipping.(costs like 3-5 dollars, on some cases its free shipping)
it supports cards over 2GB (Micro SDHC); i have a 2GB Micro SD for now, waiting for a 10-15GB model of the SDHC's to come out so i can dump all my music on it and ditch my iPod
dunno where ive got this from but i think/heard/got the vibe that the kaiser can only support up to 8gb sdhc?
that's great, I was think about a 2GB one but seems like it is not enough? Does Kaiser a good music/video player?

i get maybe 45 minutes out of a charge on the iPod anymore; it will permanently reside in my car soon enough. Dont get me wrong, the iPod is great and all, but pocket space is at a premium for me, and between wallet, cell/PPC, keys, iPod, ciggs, lighter, and PassCards my pockets are stuffed. If 8GB is the most the Kaiser will support, then so be it.

Yes we all need a slim pocket...
By the way here comes a new question, I found that all micro SDHC are come with CLASS 2, that means 9mb/s on reading and 5mb/s on writing... a little bit slow? It that necessay to buy a MicroSD Ultra II ?

if you have a 1-2GB micro SD card now, i'd wait a while unless your dying for memory space; they are bound to up the read/write speeds and lower the prices. I teach digital photography, a few years back read/write speeds of memory cards mattered a LOT, nowadays most D-SLR's have a huge cache so a superfast memory card isnt such a big deal, and the prices are fairly decent. My bet is in 6 months an 8 gig Ultra II Micro SDHC shouldnt be more than $60.
thats great to hear RacerX10; even 10-15GB should effectively mean i dont need to drag my laptop and iPod everywhere; 32GB means pretty much ALL my media with me.
SDHC spec is up to 32gig, today the max you can actually buy is 6gig. By the time you can actually buy a 32gig, we'll be using different phones like TyTN III

6GB Micro SDHCs are available - Sandisk seems to be th eonly real supplier at this moment. I'm sure others will have theirs out soon too. I just bought one from www.mydigitaldiscount.com in the US. Got it with no issues, and I've filled 4.5GB of it with music and video.
8GB MicroSDHCs are targeted for release probably around the end of the year. Again, Sandisk will be the first supplier.
No one has even announced an official "coming soon" statement for anything bigger than 8GB yet.

Kaiser is a real good video player(Using TCPMP), but it also depends on the format.
My favorite, and In my opinion, the best format is .m4v (You may need a special convertor for that)
Other formats are either 2 big, or has really choppy playback.
Also you should increase your font and glyph cache to 32768 (makes things more responsive/ smoother)
the SDA SD Card Association has never quite said the 'maximum' size of a Micro SD; there is a theoretical maximum of 32 GB, hence the 'limit' at the moment, which IMO means merely a new 'type' of SD card in a year or two. as for hardware that reads them, there likely is a maximum size they can read.
Currently Samsung has an 8GB Micro SD in development, Kingston and Sandisk are sure to be right behind anyways. besides, its just a memory card; i have piles of 128MB Memory Stick Pro Duo's that i bought for my Sony S710a when it first came out, and 128MB was still a fairly sizeable card for a cell phone; now we're talking 6-8+ gigs...

micro SD speed Class 2 and Class 4

I have the latest ROM 2.17 intalled on my Sprint Mogul. I am searching for a larger card. I am considering a 4GB card but wanted to know if the speed is factor to consider. My understanding is that class 2 is 2MB/sec while class 4 is 4MB/sec transfer speed. Can the Mogul take advantage of this? Is the speed increase enough to really be noticeable? I am assuming the 512MB card that came with the Mogul is class 2. I cannot find any markings on the card to distingish the class.
Thank you for any help provided.
I know the answer is late...
Hi, don't know if you got an answer to your question or not. I also spent about a good three days trying to track the answer down. I never found it anywhere, called HTC they sent me to Sprint...anyways...the answer that I got was that the Mogul has an average speed of 2Mb/sec; so it may not be necessary to buy a Class 4 or 6 card if it is more expensive. It looks like price for capacity is the only real factor when looking into buying a MicroSD card for the mogul.
If any one can state different (i.e. Mogul able to read/write at a higher rated speed) that would be good to know.
It might really help to have a spare, non-SDHC card in case you need to do a ROM upgrade directly from the microSD card...

Kaiser Memory Card capacity

Some people say Kaiser can manage up to 8GB and some say it can manage
up to 16GB all I have is 4GB and its more then enough. But a friend wants to send me one and asked me what is would prefer. I would go for 16GB but I don't know if I can use it. I have a AT&T Tilt.
Thank You.
Hi and welcome around,
searching a little bit around may have answered your question .
The Kaiser definitely supports µSDHC up to 16 GB. As soon as 32 GB comes up, it will also support it.
Got a 16Gb in mine. Runs great. Just got to find stuff to fill it now!

I am also using a 16GB sandisk. It works great and have no problems. The only thing I will say, as with any flash memory, is that mine is just below 15GB. I personally think that the labeled amount should be the minimum amount available. Sorry for that... go for the 16GB!
Where are you guys buying these 16GB cards? I can't even find them on any of the major retailers' sites. I'm curious to see how much they run. 16Gb used to be a pipe dream to me. heck, the 4 gig I'm currently using used to be such a pipe dream. I remember when I paid $350 for a 1 gig SD card...
16 gigs would be lovely though. I could load up on music.

What SPEED is the Tilt able to handle for the MicroSDHC cards? There are Class 2, 4, and 6 - Class 6 being the fastest. However, if the Tilt is only able to transfer up to or slightly below the speed of a Class 4 card, then buying a Class 6 rather than a Class 4 would be a total waste of money for the higher speed -

I was going to post something about the ADATA 8GB card I actually have, because I thought it was a great buy at 18.99, but when I checked their web site today, it turns out since I bought mine only about 2 weeks ago, they posted the above Class 6 speed card with 16GB!
I would make a fuss and return my old one, the only thing is, I don't even have any way of filling up the 8GB card - so I may as well wait until the 32Gb cards come out - also anothjer reason is my Tilt is getting to bee a little long in the tooth with scratches, etc. - so by the time the 32GB cards come down in price there may be other models coming onto the market I want to buy instead of the current phone I have now...

There will no doubt be better phones on the market in the near future (HTC's leaked road map has some nice looking phones due out this year, and that Nvidia Tegra system looks awesome). But, the beauty of the situation here is, pretty much any phone worth buying in the future should have a micro SD slot. It kind of sucked buying SD cards with Mini SD on the horizon, and then buying Mini SD cards with Micro SD on the horizon. But Micro SD seems to have settled in as the standard, so your 16 gig card will probably work on your next device.
According to A-Data's website, they don't make a 16gb microsd card
The link above takes you to a 16gb flash card, but it's not a microsd card. The cheapest ones I've seen are 50+ on ebay, probably fakes, but I have an 8gb, probably fake that I go on ebay, and it works perfectly.
I have a 16 gb micro sd card that I bought on ebay, and it works great. I've had no problems whatsoever with it, and I've really loaded it up! I paid $52.00 for it (shipping included).
It Supports up to 32gb
Correction 16GB MicrSDHC not yet available?
My first post tothis thread was wrong, that was a 16GB sd card, not a micro sdhc card. All I can find for highest capacity (class 6) is an 8GB card which I am now using (and itis fast):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341
And it's only $15.49!
It appears that the class 4 and class 6 make little difference in speed tests, maybe the tilt read/write throughput gets maxed out at the class 4 speed??? Any thoughts anyone?

Did anyone tried 32Gb micro sdhc on X1?

May be too high price : )
http://shop.sandisk.com/store/sdisk...=S6s6ZwoHAisAAArzFQ4AAAAB&rests=1269512807325
high price I would buy a x10 or HTC before getting that 32gb card. My x1 was $400 alone and this would be an extra $250 just saying for $650 we could buying something with alittle more power..
I bought another 16GB memory cards with only Rp. 360.000,- or around 35 US$ last week.
So if would like to buy 32GB, how to buy 2 16GB memory cards?
Hi,
I'm thinking about 32GB microSD, too. It's getting cheaper and cheaper day by day on ebay and dhgate...
Can anybody confirm that it works?
I'll order one and try it myself if nobody says that xperia x1 doesn't compatible with it.
lol this is wayyy to much money for me to dabble into!
$18.24 ?
I'll order one from dhgate and will report my experience.
I got one from expansys, working like a charm
Nice to hear that it works. I intend to buy one too but I dont want to waste monney on a card that wont be recognised by my Xperia X1.
Sorry, i just wanted to say that i didn't order it at the end. I wanted it faster, so i bought an 8gb one.
I think I'm going to order one soon since the price has come down a bit. The minute I hold it in my hands I will post my experience.
did 16gb works ok?
Work perfect
no problems in lagging? No hang-ups? I'm using 8gb right now and am afraid of upgrading because I had problems before when I have lots of apps installed and it slowed down my phone. Like reallly slow.
this time i m using 16 gb sandisk microsd card which is work awesome without any problem ya definately xperia support 32 gb card without any problem because xperia Hardware is Much Better than Other device and good Configuration
I had 16 GB in my x1... and despite my best effort i never used more than 5 GB, so i deleted few useless things, inserted back my 4 GB card, and the 16 GB card is now in my PSP, where it's still used by, say, 50% only.
And to stay on topic, yes, it works, i had the pleasure to test it, though i never had one... edit: and regarding lags: it's more like how much files are on the card, not how big they are... you can stock up 512 MB card to lags as simple as you can do so with 32 GB... just you don't use MP3's but text files... to prevent this, create subfolders... example:
\Music\Favorite Singer\Favorite Album\Favorite Song.mp3
this way there is no chance to experience any lags while browsing files...
btw: try to open \windows\ folder, that's how it should not look...

Absolutely right.
I'm using a 16GB one, with around 600 songs (sorted in folders by genre\artist\album), no lagging when browsing card or using phone.
There shouldn't be a reason why a 32gb card won't work.
It works perfectly but if you feel it bit slower just use tnyynt SD TuneUP app which makes the reading realy fast for more energy of course...
I have finally got my hands on a 32 GB card. It's a Sandisk class 4 and it is recognized by the Xperia X1 without any problems at all. And I don't think there is any difference in writing/ reading speed between my old 16 GB Sandisk class 2 and the new one. I'm absolutely satisfied.
NO
I think it‘s impossible, because it can make X1 become slower and slower!

They're all pretty much the same. Never heard of a 'bad SD card' company.
I don't think our phones can take advantages of anything above a class 4, so it'd be a waste of money really to spend it on a higher class aka faster card.
This would be my first choice:

It's actually the card I've been using for a year. Works great, quick and still a lot of room left on it.

I'm not sure I ever actually understood the whole speed thing. Is it how fast stuff is read off the card by our phone, or how fast things transfer from my computer into the card?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
speed ratings are how fast data is WRITTEN to the card.
The Incredible only came with a 2GB card? I'm still using the 8GB card that came with my Eris. Unfortunately nandroid backups take up so much room on this phone, I usually can only store 1. I'm not sure I want to invest in one since most phones seem to be coming with 16GB ones now.
Yeah.
I guess to break it down a little more, our phone only uses
- MicroSD
- Class 4 (classes are just speed ratings for the card and I do not believe our phone supports higher than 4 - not to mention there's nothing practical that you would need to go that quick on a phone anyway)
- Up to 32 (HTC says 32) // Verizon says 16.
I don't know of anyone who has used a 32, again I don't think it's very practical unless maybe you have your entire music library of 20,000 songs on your phone.
I have tried 3 different cards, PNY, Kingston, and San-disk. I have had issues with, PNY and Kingston, but never with any issues with San-disk.

I'm using a 32 GB SanDisk with no problems. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of buying a 16 GB only to replace it with a 32 GB later. I'm only using 12 GB and most of that is nandroid backups that I could probably get rid of.
The sweet spot price wise is probably the $15 16 GB instead of the $60+ 32 GB. But if you want/need 32 GB, it does work.
i have a 32gig scan disk and have had no problems with it.
Be careful when purchasing SD cards on eBay or 3rd party retailers on Amazon because there are a TON of counterfeit cards out there.

I would get the largest size card you can afford...then you can keep as many apps on it, music, pics, etc on it, and save the internal space for cache and not have the phone go crazy if you forget to clear it in awhile.
I personally have an 8GB and I'm considering getting a 16 or above, but 8 is a great size if you have a DECENT music and video collection along with games otherwise I would get a 12GB-32GB if you have tons of media. Click thanks if this helped!

I actually read up on what sd cards perform well as they have benchmark scores on the Toms Hardware site. The Kingston 8gb class 10 is really good. I got around 16 mb/s write speed and 19 mb/s read speed. Not too shaby for $9 on Amazon, and they have the 16gb for $16. Also, if I remember correctly the 16gb performed a little better than the 8gb, but both are perform well.

This right here. While physical stores can also get hit with fake cards, the big dumping ground for cheap chinese knock-offs is ebay and third-party Amazon sellers. Buy one, and you're likely to get a much slower card, the wrong capacity, or just a lump of SD-shaped plastic. you're better off going to wally-world, beastbuys, or a reputable e-tailer like new-egg.
That all said, SD cards are pretty much a commodity item, meaning they're more or less all the same. The Dinc itself I believe can only read around Class 4 speeds, but that's no reason not to go ahead and get a nice fast Class 10 card. Sooner or later you'll probably want to use it in another device or in your PC and it's nice to have the breathing room. I usually buy Sandisk when I buy them, but they're essentially indistinguishable.
And on a tangentially related topic. I see that the Galaxynote 2 is going to be one of the first devices to use SDXC cards... who else is ready to dump 2 terabyte SD cards into their phones to keep their whole lives on? :highfive:

This right here. While physical stores can also get hit with fake cards, the big dumping ground for cheap chinese knock-offs is ebay and third-party Amazon sellers. Buy one, and you're likely to get a much slower card, the wrong capacity, or just a lump of SD-shaped plastic. you're better off going to wally-world, beastbuys, or a reputable e-tailer like new-egg.
