Stock contacts + Desire ROM ? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I absolutely hate the Sense UI contacts but love many of the other features. I wanted to try it out for a few days before 2.2 but I would rather not do without the standard contacts w.wysie etc improvements.
Is this possible ?

Pay modoco €10 and you can cook up a desire rom with standard contacts list. IIRC it even lets you have both.

Modaco's kitchen lets you do just this. I highly recommend getting a plus account

Sense browser

I used to use a sense rom and I remember in the browser you could long press on text and you could drag to select and from there use translate and other features... Now using launcher pro on shadowrom 2.1 and would love that feature... Any ideas?

Yeah know how to select text lol... Neeext!

No ideas, because there aren't any. Sense browser requires Sense framework, which requires Sense ROM.

I've asked this before because I want it too. Apparently this IS impossible, and there is no way to port it without having sense entirely. I wish there was.
So your saying its impossible to have that feature because sense has already done that? Theirs no dev that could make that feature possible without sense? Well then sense is starting to have features over stock android.. how disappointing

And I know the deal with sense not being pick and choose.. But I guess what I meant is their anyone who could write an add on to the browser or even an add on to dolphin or something.. Seems like a pretty decent feature to have

The thing is, the text selection method isn't just in the browser, it's across the entire phone in the sense ports. So it's an integral part of the OS.
I don't even mind the select text in stock android.. I just wish their were other plugins for android browser so we could have translate integrated into the browser. I guess just a wish for gingerbread or the next release. Copy and paste and leaving the browser into translate isn't the worst but it is annoying

US LGX2 come with AOSP 2.2.1 froyo or Gingerbread?

Hello, is US version of LGX2 come with AOSP Froyo or Gingerbread or LG own software like TouchWiz or sense etc...?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I believe it will be 2.2.1 stock AOSP. It will look similar to current G2 by HTC. It might have some Tmo apps like WiFi calling, MobiTv and some others. But maily it will be clean and free of bloatware from LG.

They have some specs and possibly all features listed on their website (coming soon..). Notably absent is WiFi calling. Wonder, if not, could the app be "lifted' from another ROM by XDA? Also, will it be compatible with the hardware setup?
That could be a deal killer for me otherwise - I use WiFi calling most of the time from home office, as WiFi is always on thanks to TMo US data cap.
It seems like on most tmo phones, the wifi calling is delivered over an ota update soon after release..
One more question guys, does the phone comes unlock US version?

Comes w/ 2.2.2 stock. Few T-Mobile apps thrown in: AppPAck, My Account, Qik Video Chat, MobiTV, WiFi calling, Zinio
Thanks guys, I have one more questions cause I don't want to create another thread. Is LG easier to port Sense? Since its on froyo? Cause SamSux use different file system and it's a ***** to port Sense. Galaxy S series, 4G, Nexus S only AOSP rom like CM7, Miui etc but not Sense. Is LG the same like Samsux?

Probably 2.2.x judging from all the press shots with the fugly default pre-Gingerbread status bar.
Sense can't be ported to non-Neon GPU's like Tegra2 until HTC or someone else rewrites the whole thing. Get LauncherPro Plus.

Thanks, I just ask in the Evo 4G thread there is no way to port Sense to LG or Samsung due to htc close source.
I guess I'll be waiting on htc so I can have both worlds AOSP cm7, Miui and Sense ui.

FB Calendar sync

I can't seem to find a way to sync my phone with FB.
Calendar sync options doesn't seem to exist at this point of time.
Running modaco stock
Also, is it me, or is there a BIG LACK of custom roms for this phone?
Big lack? That's a bit ungrateful. Anyways, it's rather new, and hasn't even been released in the US yet.
Download FB for Android. There's an option in there to sync.
May seem rather elementary but make sure you have the Facebook app installed and then go to accounts and sync in settings and try adding it there. Again pretty obvious but just giving advice. Hope Facebook sync isn't blocked in this phone like on the nexus line. Any input on this Paul?

Sorry if I'm a bit impatient, but I've been so used to having lots of roms on other android phones.
I do have facebook app on my phone. It's just that I want to sync my facebook calendar to the phone calendar. The option isn't available.

sorry for the mis-com, i meant in quantity!
The Quality from paul is top notch.
I came from legend and a Captivate, so when i was using the modaco rom for legend, i knew how great his roms are...
But i do feel a certain lack as other modders just modify from paul.
YES, i know it's hard work to do the modding, but i really wish i could see something more on the Optimus 2X.
On facebook syncing, i've flashed FR12 stock but don't seem to have this feature. Might try the vanilla one just to find out.
Maybe it was not built it? not sure...

Kernels for GB

What kernels are available for a GB based Rom? Thinking of getting rid of ICS so I can go back to a Rom with sense 3.5. Didn't know what options are available.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I'm honestly not sure what GB kernels are still around. Just out of curiosity, why would you want to go back to GB?

I for one, decided to go back to GB because of voice dial over bluetooth. Its a feature I really need and have not found a working solution on ICS
I want to go back for 2 reasons, both having to do with my exchange email. As much playing around as I do with my phone, first and foremost it is for business and ICS doesn't play nice with exchange. First, by going back to Sense 3.5, I can get my html email back. Second, the push function works solid with GB. I can't seem to get ICS, regardless of ROM, to hold my exchange settings such as email frequency and amount of days to download, etc. At the end of the day, this phone is used to make me money and it's important that I get emails as they arrive and not 15-30 minutes after the fact.

I'm not sure why you'd be having those issues on ICS without knowing what your Exchange environment looks like but I have none of those issues with ICS and Exchange 2007/2010. I have HTML email, push works as it should, and syncs back a week. In fact it works exactly as it did on GB. That's strange.
When you switch ROMs, you're not restoring System data through Titanium Backup are you?
Sent from an HTC Vivid via XDA Premium
I don't use any backup actually. I reinstall all apps and settings manually everytime. I assume its ICS because Ive had these problems even when I was stock Rom. Care to share a copy of your exchange.apk? Or is it mail.apk.

Rom Wish List / Idea

Now that I have root, and can at least flash zips through OpenRecoveryScript, I have been thinking about what I want out this rom, but got me thinking about an idea. While we have kitchens in the past, I do not think anyone has ever done a web-based kitchen. i.e. select the options you want on a web-page and it compiles the zip in the background and then lets you download.
This has been done for years in the programming industry for frameworks (jquery, etc)..
Anyways... Here are some ideas of my dream rom
Options
carousel mode
Screen on with text
Remove HTC apps (Blink Feed, Kid Mode, etc)
Remove stock apps (Mail, browser, etc)
Remove all languages except one you use
Move Google apps outside of /system/ that way they can be added and deleted as needed.
Remove live wall papers
Add common community apps such as Wi-F Tether, etc
Basically build a base rom with the stand rom featuers, zip-aligned, de-odexed, tweaks, etc...
I know alot of this is an option with AROMA installer, but by doing it this way, it makes the download that much smaller.....
Thoughts??
I vote we go for kernel source and get CM, omni, carbon, cfxperiment ect going Personal opinion
I'll add to the list
Alternative (or combine) LTE/Spark icons
Alternative battery icon with %
Remove NFC icon
Xposed Installer
Exchange Security Bypass
I would love a Bad Boyz rom for the m8,it was great on the m7.

I just want something to flash lol. Insert coin was my dd on the m7.
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
Well, for stock, I'd love everything removed that you could get from the play store, and a folder separate with removed apps if you wanted them.
Aroma is cool and all, but takes longer than this method.
Configurable buttons and long press options.
Oh, and an amazing kernel!
I made a stripped down rom for the gs3 called BareBones and I'll probably make a similar rom for this phone as well.
Beanstalk, my dd from the jewel. But it is CM based so we need that first.
Delete (wrong thread)
auto hide soft keys - like when you launch the camera app.
I'd love cm11

Dude, I remember you from the Evo 3D days. I see you're still trolling around....
For what its worth Myn now has a HTC one M8 and may start developing again. For those that remember Warm rom will know his work quality. He is on VZW now but I will try to help as much as I can with mine. Him coming back to HTC is what motivated me to loose the Nexus 5 and return to HTC.
I would like to see the app drawer smooth scroll instead of by pages....I hate haveing to stretch for a icon at the top of screen when I could have had it in middle or more accessible
Sprint M8
