Help with Pushing apps - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I am trying to get friend stream to work in the new fresh rom. I got the apk from damages rom along with the widget. In cmd I successfully push the apps /system/app/ after typing in adb remount. However after I reboot the app is not there. How do I get this to work? Also was wondering how to port a system app from a darchlegend rom to work on any other rom. Any advice is welcome.

Wont work, period. It needs an .odex for both the widget and the normal .apk for it to work in the latest release.

Ok I can pull the odex file but where does that go? Or is that something created when the apk is compiled if so any good tuts for editing and recompiling?

I was kind of hoping TitaniumBackup would give me this one...
I can't find the odex...
But I read from the other Hero forum that Friendstream may require an update package.

Original Apps from Stock (Not A Request)

Mods, please sticky.
I'm getting tired of asking for APKs of stock files, so I have ripped apart the original system.img, and uploaded it to my MediaFire. This should contain all of the APKs from /system/app. Upon request, I'll rip some other ROMs apart and upload the apps from them onto MediaFire.
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=...0a80bbfd46652c42972c62268198c95645c60d3adceb4
You can also just download the slidemeroot.zip rom, which is everything stock and copy the apk's right out of the zip file.
But now you don't have to download the entire ROM for a single APK.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I also have all of the stock apk's uploaded on my web server, but it's probably not a good idea to be redistributing them for anyone to download. Something about distribution of copyrighted works... etc...

Are you using an odex'ed rom? (are there .odex files in your /system/app/ folder other than the ones you just copied over there?)

It's the ROM. I believe I either unyaffs'd or flashed, and pulled before booting the first time. I just re-unyaffs'd again to make sure, and yes, most, if not all, apps go have an odex.

We'll see what happens, but, like I said, I doubt the mods would ask everyone to remove their cooked ROMs containing any APKs.

Download one of the stock/ota roms. They're in the system/media/audio folder.
How do I unpack the IMG file inside the zipfile?

Fixed - Call Log Mod **FIXED for EB13** Thanks K0nane

Modded the LogProvider to exclude Mms and SMS.

thank you...
DUDE!
That is very nice!!!
Will this work witht he DK17 release? If not, could you post up what you edited in the file orjust do it for us? Thanks!
Would like this change, didn't work on Quantum 1.5 sadly.
Doesn't seem like anything is wrong, anything I need to worry about from the install?
Thanks in advance.
Actually, it sort of worked. It hid sms/mms from all logged days except today (which is when I installed 1.5).
So presumably something in Quantum 1.5's modifications throws this off.
Well I had to wait for a few texts to come in and when they did they weren't in the call log. Another pet peeve erased for me, thanx ;-)

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you flash an apk file? Clockwork only sees zips and it fails with App Installer.

I assumed it was supposed to be named .zip (apks are renamed zips), flashed usin Viper rom v2.4 and still have sms in my logs. Bummer too, since this mod would be sweet
My friend's been really b*tching about this on his AT&T Captivate. Any chance this would work on his phone? Also, it's an .apk file? Do you install or rename .zip and flash via Recovery?
To the people talking about the file extension, it is .apk for a reason because it is a system app. You need to either insert it into a signed .zip with the proper structure (system/app) or use adb to push it to the system/app directory and then reboot.

This rocks! Thanks Mammon88! I used Root Explorer from the market and renamed the original .apk with .apk.bak, pasted yours in, and rebooted. Using DK17.
Just curious - what change did you make to the original .apk? I'm thinking of trying to tweak it some more but have not done any programming for, oh, many years. I'd like to retain the functionality of the View By Received/Sent messages without forcing people to see them (maybe by adding a "View by: All Calls" option). Right now your .apk doesn't seem to display messages at all, which is a relief! But, y'know, android is all about choice!
Thanks again! Great work on your ROMs, too.
Using a Captivate
I used Root Explorer to push the new apk into my system/app dir, it looked like everything worked but upon reboot the text message logs were still there. Any idea? I followed the process here: http://simply-android.com/discussion/159/howto-replace-or-restore-apps-using-root-explorer/p1
Thanks!

can you extract it for me from your stock, and upload here?

If you read the cyanogenmod wiki about building cm7 for your device specifically there's a script called extract_files.sh that will get the files you need.

i do know about it, but i m getting error in these few files when try to extract, and then checked its not there in CM7 nightliy 17, so as you running stock, i think it would be in yours, but its ok, got it from proprietary link
I have a problem in connection with setting udev. I dont know how to do it. A few line instruction would be useful. All I know is that I have to customize udev.d to lge code right? But I dont find the that file.
Edit: I logged in as root and made 51-android.rules in etc/udec/rules chmoded but it doesn't work. cannot adb pull

Sorry for my late reply, I was sleeping, as i was compiling my rom at already 4 am germany. Just woke up, and here is link to koush's files, thank him.

just use download button, and download as zip and then extract in your folder, but if your rules have problem it would be first thing to fix it.
Sure but I downloaded the same and got the error that I had posted. BTW have you succeeded in compiling the rom?

Some people dont like their Call History and Text History combined into 1 big history log. This removes that so that each have their own logs.

Does anyone have the original logs provider apk cause this one ****s up the phone and makes it force close when you hang up a call and when you go into the logs then resets the radio.

Sorry but this did not work for me.
I got a bunch of FC and then I rebooted and everything was back to the way it was.
UPDATE: got it working now.. See below.
It did work for me. I placed it on my SD card then used Root Explorer to move it to my system/app folder (you have to have it set to read/write, thus you need root access), then let it overwrite the current version, rebooted, cleared my logs, and tested it, and it works for me. I'm on Deodexed, Rooted EF02 with busybox (no idea wtf busybox is). The op was updated and the download fixed at some point, not sure when, maybe you have the older version. I would suggest giving it another try.

Seems to be working great now! The only thing I did different was delete that odex file. I read some where that that's what worked for them.

PS All the old logs were still there until I deleted them, so at first it didn't look like it worked.
