On your sd card make sure you have a folder named "audio"
Then inside that folder make these 3 folders "alarms", "notifications", "ringtones"
Place your alert sounds in the folders.
New ringtone? "ringtones" folder
New message? "notifications" folder
New Alarm? "alarms" folder.
Obviously don't have the " " s when naming the folders.
Rings Extended
Mark you might also try the app called "Rings Extended". It's free and will let you pick any audio file for ringtones/notifications/etc.
Link to Cyrket page for the app:

I'm new to the Wizard 8125 and i'm trying to figure out how to use ringers besides the ones that come on the phone. Can i upload songs or download of the internet?
any song. mp3 or wma
if you have a sd card . just tap and hold the mp3 or wma file song you want . and tap ( set as ringtone ) in the window
this will automatically add the song to your ringtones Folder in the main memory of your phone
good luck.
yes, but that only works for ringtones
not for notices such as incomming messages, or missed call notifications....etc
on a fluke however, i have a wav file (of homer simpson screaming woohoo) that DID end up in the menu for incomming messages notifications and such... so my question is, is there a certain criteria for custom soundfiles to work as something other than a ringtone?
anyone? anyone at all?
I use PhoneAlarm to do this. I am not sure how to do this through registry or know of a freeware app but I do know phoneAlarm does a very good job of this.
SoBBie

The way i do is copy the sound from you mc card use file explorer then go into windows on your phone scroll to the bottom of the folder then press with the styles then paste then it will be there when you set the alarm hope that helps

Just copy the mp3 or wav file to "My Device\Windows\" folder.
Go to setting\sound and notifications...you should be able to find the sound file that you just copied in the pull down menu.
hope it helps
Yes the file is there, I can select it pre-view it but when I get a new txt it does not work I tried other files as well and they also do not work either mp3 or wav.
thanks anyways
HELLO
you can create a folder "my document" in your sd then you can put in there your ringtones.
Thats it . When you want to change your ringtone (incoming call) or your msg ringtone you can go to the settings -> sounds -> and search for the ringtone...
I hope that you understand what i said because me english is to bad
Thanks for all the replies but still no good , I have tried everything I can and still no go it just wont play anything but the default sound that came with the phone
I'm trying to set custom notification sounds like when I get an SMS etc. I see a list of sounds I can choose from but I am unable to find these files when I search the contents of my htc (?)
Therefore I can't find where to put my own custom files to add them to the pulldown list.
Any help?

For SMS or MMS notification. Drop them into your \Windows Directory. I think there are type size restrictions but I don't remember them. Just drop them in And See.
Oh and By the way, you should search before you ask a question. The Natives get crappy when they see redundant questions.
Just put them in My Documents folder, preferrably on storage card, no size restrictions; you can even apply mpeg 4's as notifications
i can not figure out how to get a mp3 ringtone that i downloaded to work when i get a text. the tone shows up in the new text thing to select which tone u want but it doesnt ring when i get a text? my ringotne from a incoming call works. but not the text
thanks chris
I got the same problem. anyone can help?
are you sure the text tone does not work at all? I am running WM6.1 stock on AT&T Tilt which I purchased a couple of days ago. Today, I did not notice when I received the text. I thought I was probably away from the phone. But when I read your post, I doubt that the same thing is happening here as well?
hmm.. experts?
maybe not an expert, but afaik You cannot use mp3 as a message tone. it's got to be .wav
br
bro
[EDIT]
...and I believe You need to drop it in windows folder
You can use a mp3...you just have to copy it to the windows folder.
do u put it in windows folder in sync or on the phone?
i use resco file explorer to transfer it. You can use the default file explorer. Just do it on your phone. I keep them saved on my card because I flash so often that i just copy them from my card to the windows folder.
mp3's will work as message alert tones. Just make sure you drop it in the windows root directory.
If your particular mp3 file doesn't work try another one.

Easiest way is to use MP3Trimmer.
"Assigning Ringtones" problem for TILT phone...
I'm having the same trouble with assigning ringtones/mp3 files as text alerts, alarm clock tones. I installed the .cab file (ringtone manager) mentioned earlier in the thread, and I have all ringtone files in my WINDOWS folder. Howerver, when I use the installed "Ringtone Manager" program and explore my files...my mp3 files do not show up w/in the "Ringtone Manager" program. Any suggestions? I'm relatively new to all of this...please dumb it down for me.

I don't know from where you got the ringtone manager app. I don't see it anywhere in this thread. Maybe that application doesn't support mp3 files as text msg alerts or something.
I always place my mp3 files in the first screen after you've clicked 'Explore' in ActiveSync. I believe it's called "Mobile Device Center". Afterwards, it should allow you to select the file for texts. Try that. It should work.
I put all tones that i plan on using in the root of my storage card... no problems.

1.
To change the sms tone simply put a *.mp3 or *.wav file under My Documents -> Ringtones! Then go to settings -> ringer & alarm. Choose sms from the drop-down field and than associate it with the file you want.
Same thing for regular ringtones.
2.
That is because you save your numbers to the SIM. Open your contacts and look for the setting to disable SIM contacts. Then just use the phone memory.
Internal memory/device? under windows or what? Please give me a specific path

What device are you running?
Do you use ActiveSync to sync your documents with your device?
Just put the *.mp3 in MainMemory/My Documents/Ringtones if there is such folder. Otherwise put it in MainMemory/Windows.
Just a advice. Name the file with a leading 0 - ....mp3, so it is not to difficult to find it again.
Still doesn't show up
Do you have a video guide?

What device do you have?
Which WinMo version are you running?
Regular htc diamond 1... last original rom from htc 2.03 WWE
Try this please:
Open your built-in file-explorer. Browse to the folder where your *.mp3 is in.
Long-press the file you want for ringtone. In the popup menu choose the last entry "set as ringtone".

No need to be a *.wav file. I'm running an original o2 diamond and it supports *.mp3 by default. Only alarm has to be *.wav on mine.
Or *.wma still fine.
Then copy it to the "Window" folder (must tick the "Show system folder..." and "Show hidden folder..." in Folder Options)
Well iv'e sold my diamond today. Iv'e bought it for 168.70 (second hand) and sold it for 233.58. i will add like 25$ and buy mygirlfriend HD1 (like my father has)
I hope changing ringtone there will be much easier
mp3 as sms tone
can u try putting it in "My Device" memory >> My Documents
u may not create the "Ringtone" folder... you can just paste it in "My Documents" under your Device's memory... [not the internal storage]
then go to .. Sound & Notification settings and the select Message: text ...
select the mp3 if you can see it there.. then click OK..
Im not sure if this will work on you.. but this is what I just did right now with my HTC Diamond ^_^
