some help for a quick learning noob' ish - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrading

i have the whole updateing the .ROM sorted using HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe.
but can anyone please give me some idea or links or uploads on how to use the great kitchens posted around this site.
i would love to start modding my own .ROM for the himalaya. i have some experiance modding operating systems like xp win 7 and would like to start on windows mobile for our beloved himalayas.
any help would be gratefull!

Ive been here for about 1 year now and i still havent got the hang of making roms. Seems a bit confusing to me. Try to PM aeroflyluby, he might give you a guide to one of his kitchens
And welcome to XDA!

Yay Okay, You really should PM me, and describe whole problem.
Also I think I will release new kitchen today or tommorow. I was expecting that I could do XIP porting in this release, but I was in a mistake, because many people here needs new tools.
Okay so I will try to release aerokitchen as fast as possible, so be patient.
And you should PM me.

Happy day 4 me, and somewhat 4 u

Got my kaiser/tytn2 today
So I am leaving herald community and venturing over to kaiser.
What do that mean for herald? Well, Im gonna finish my 3 latest projects. The rom for p4350 wwe, and the norwegian rom. And ofcourse I will finish the tutorial.
But thats not all I am gonna do, I am gonna upload the sys, oem and rom folders for both wing and p4350. And I am also gonna upload a section of oem packages, some I have made, but mostly stuff I have found all over the forum. I will make it easy and add the oem packages into the OEM kitchen folder. This means that when you choose to build your rom, you will get a list of whats inside the oem folder, and then you can check or uncheck w/e you want to include in your rom.
The files and folders are no longer limited to personal use, if you wanna share your rom, please do so. But the condition will be that all roms released using the kitchen files (oem, rom and sys) a note with credits to the one spending alot of hours building for you
Im not leaving completly, incase some few are gonna miss me Im gonna check in once in a while and help out, and follow some up on the tutorial.
I cant promise this will be done this weekend, but I can promise that it will be all finished sometime before next weekend. That include the tutorial.
Now Im gonna dump my norwegain kaiser, and see what can be done with it
cheers
We'll miss you... unless you buy me a Kaiser, and then I'll just be happy along with you. lol
Anyhoo, I think my kitchen is finally done, (I've yet to try out the last ROM I've made) and it's all thanks to your base ROM (Minus some tweaking...)
I'll also be using Hyperkitchen to make some more tweaked ROMs. Hopefully, I'll become the next itje... without a kaiser...
Congrats my friend and excellent that you received your kaiser. Is it the Kaiser 120 (with 3meg pixel camera and and video calling capabilities)? This is definitely a step up for you (and your phone, lol). This is a step I look forward to making in a month. Although you're going to be relocating to the Kaiser forum and your new home will be there, your frequent presence and guidance here will be missed for sure .. and I will go out on a limb to say that's on the behalf of everyone here, lol. I'm sure that forum will treasure your insight and expertise. I'm also happy to hear you're not just leaving us, you're still going to make guest appearances here, LOL, and remain a consultant (sort of speak) for us amateur and experienced rom cookers.
Remember, you can always come back HOME (here, lol), if thing don't work out over there, LOL.
As for me, I'm using your latest beta version now, but I think I'm going to downgrade and use version 2 for my herald instead due to it's stability, until you have the final versions posted. I'm struggling with the keyboard issue, lol. Itje, Thank you for everything. PS .. The kaiser forum will be my new home in a month anyway, lol. So look forward to picking your brain, lol.
Congrats on the new handset. I know Ive been eyeballing the kaiser for a while but I need T-Mobile to carry it so I can get the employee discount.
I think I can speak for the rest of the herald and wing users when I say that we appreciate all the work you've put into the wing and herald. And of course, I cant wait for the finished tutorial!

nice one itje will miss you too when you are not often around here in the herald forums ....
but the best thing is that you will upload the oem packages, sys and oem folder and that you will finish the tutorial. THIS IS F****NG GREAT
You will be missed.
Have fun with your new phone, I'm not quite ready to upgrade. I think I am going to see what HTC has up its sleeve next. Thanks for everything.
ITJE, I heard the Kaiser is a piece of crap. I suggest you get rid of it and stay with the Herald.
Seriously, I really appreciate all the work that you've done and given me much inspiration on cooking my own ROM for the Wing. You were like my Faria from the MDA forum when I used to carry that around.
I hope you enjoy your shiny new toy.
Lets have a farewell party and get drunk!!! haha
Oh, I am going to buy the kaiser whenver T-mobile USA releases it...
Its way too rich for my blood! Wing will do for now.
i don't mean to be a butt, but (lol) didn't you say that if we recooked and released one of your roms, you would stop cooking for herald? So now, can we do so without your permission? Or would you like to set another policy.

Nice that you are finishing the new Norwegian rom for the P4350 I just wanna thank you for all your hard work and i'm happy that there are people like tou oute there .. hehe..
We will all miss you
Reading this thread seems that Itje had bigger problems. Luckily his bigger problem by now is getting used to his new device.
Thank you for all your efforts and nice work. All of your "betatesters" come to this thread to say goodbye. That's quite nice. Maybe the forum masters should consider creating a hall-of-fame for all of those who made it worth visiting daily. You have my vote.
Good luck and, who knows, maybe be meet again at the kaiser's forum.
P.S. Again, I'll be connecting daily hoping to find your (last) releases...
so itje when do you think you will release all your stuff here? cant wait to grab it off and take your position in the herald forums maybe i will be the next rom cooker. until now i have read much hours instuctions to build an own rom and i had no problem using your excellent instruction you posted here .....
miss ya maybe i will catch up a kaiser to and follow you *smile*
Just wanted to say thanks to itje, if it wasnt for your ROMS i would have jumped ship to the Kaiser along time ago! I guess I was spoilt as a Wizard user with all the roms available, but it was nice to have at least one chef for the herald. Thanks again.
Thanks Man,
If you didn't help with the roms... a piec of this phone would have ended up in a tmo reps A$$..
Thanks again
enjoy the incresed power!
please do not resurrect month old threads. sorry if i sound like a butt (no reference to past posts intended, but it IS convenient)
I will miss you man.

How to extract XIP from Blue Angel

Extracting XIP from Blue Angel...
There's no tutorial for this... any one got inputs?
Some time ago....
Some time ago a Hermes chef told me that there is an option to XIP port manually but he doesnt have enough time to xplain me the process cause it is extensive and exhausting
BTW i ask him how to make a rom if in BA the kitchens cant! do that... maybe the tool XIPport can do the thingy but How da heck! jajajaja lol.
Is a process that maaaaaany Tutorials for cook may have...
there is a post for how to do it , you just have to search a bit more, it is here in BA section
Well i will try it... Jejeje
Thanks for the info men!
@mnemonique

Hey xplode
After read almost all the thread... and laugh a lot with that useless guy i feel like him... jajajaja lol
Well the first part of the WM6 porting in 2007 was a real God damn headache! and seems to be the Vietnameese guys that could get wm6 to boot... but how!? on page 18 or 19 somebody cames with this pics and you with your new WM6 rom! and your new kitchen! ... what happend that days! i saw to january till July all that efforts! dislike fights and noobness with that guy... jajaj but the Xip port seems to be older than one I have... i will show you later... whats going on with that tool...
i have read 2 hours that thread i need to go home. bye bye... oh thanks really apreciated but I think that i need to be a programmer to understand HEX terms and many other things jejeje.
Ahhh the good old days
Kinda funny...
I saw you, Helmi_C, BEPE, and many more trying to boot WM6 jejeje was great to see nice efforts that we cant saw now a days here... I mean many people is working now on new devices... and PV has more solutions it seems to help this device to be alive supporting you and all here to develops new roms.
I have read every single post on this thread and man you can see how they really want it, how eager they are to have wm6 on our BA. Thanks to all who lend their time for our BA.
And something that you do not understand from the thread, the trick was in simple HEX edit the nk.exe to make WM6 boot on BA
i didnt understand that guy.. saying i cant help here cooking but i know well how to search on the web jajajajaja....
well is sarcasm...

Thank you chefs!!!!

Guys,
As a total and utter novice to all this PDA lark, I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your hard work. Just changed my WM6.1 ROM to 6.5 and works so much better!
Tried out a few different ROMs and eventually decided on WC6x's Fully Loaded! Keep up the good work...I'd love to lend a hand but it would be like trying to play pool with a piece of rope!
The Diggler
Your welcome and thanks for trying my work, but I'm just learning the trade, not a chef yet....lol....more like a kitchen hand....lol

How to cook your own rom, an initiative by moderators

Dear folks:
How many us are really looking for cooking our own rom. Information are scattered here and there and the process is not straight forward. It can be as simple as adding cabs and as complicated as perhaps changing hardware, porting roms to other devices, etc...
I think the reason why there is no tutorial for cooking the rom is because well it's difficult for one to develop that kind of tutorial, let alone his/her experience and best practices in various areas.
Ok so how to solve it? I suggest that all great cooking people out there, share to build that tutorial led by the moderator.
For example, one person could be in charge of explaining how to add CAB, another person in doing sys, another in porting, another in compiling, etc..
Clearly there will be multiple sections in that thread and it would be owesome and well organized. Even better, some topics can be jointly developed by more then one person sharing the experience and the best tricks and tips between them.
Somebody has to start this initiative, at least in defining the blocks, who is going to take the first shot and entice others to cooperate?
Samer.
sounds like a good idea i'd definitely like to know!!! im always looking for ways to build up my skills.
There's plenty of tutorials floating around... But if you want one done JUST for the TP2, I can help with that...
Im down...if not make my own, maybe help someone else. I personally think there are too many to choose from, and there needs to be a streamlined process to ensure that the ones that work, continue to get the support to make them better.
As NRG said, there are already a lot of threads and tutorials. Making a ROM is not just a Rhodium thing, it is very generic to start. Then making it Rhodium compliant might take some extra work. In any case, I am also looking to start my own kitchen so any efforts in this direction are apprciated.
I would greatly appreciate this. I am currently trying to cook my own ROM. I got the Visual Kitchen, dumped the HTC WWE 6.5 ROM and downloaded the 23518 rollup from Da_G.
I used Dump Sorter to sort the rollup and put it in the SYS folder. I moved the MSXIPKernel into ROM\Shared\23518. I selected 23518 for XIP and SYS build and left ETX at 21854. The ROM won't build. I try to make it but the file in RHODIUM_Release is only 8MB.
In the build log it says
"Executing: platformrebuilder.exe.....
platformrebuilder.exe Executed successfull!!!"
Platformrebuilder does not do anything where as if I left everything at 21854 there is a LOT of stuff that platformrebuilder.exe does.
Also in ROM\Shared\21854 there is a file xip.bin that I don't have in 23518.
Help cooking sense2.5
My problem is when trying to cook Leo sense2.5(EXT package). ( I could produce sense2.1 without any problem) . BUT ran into issues like: (see photo) or if the ROM is complete. I can't get past the installation screen, just hung there and not giving me the Today Screen. So any help would be greatly appreciative.
ps.. I did check Real WM 6.5, but ROM still won't boot.

Well first of all, it's an honor to see a great person like yourself answering my post, so my warm regards for your kindness.
Yes, I am interested obviously in TP2, although from the moment I got my hands on it, I never tried anything but EnergyRom (do you know who does them?) but it's just that I wish I can combine the latest official WM6.5 with arabic keyboard and Sense 2.5 and perhaps some cool stuff.
Indeed there are plenty of tutorials out there but maybe they are not clear enough to me, or maybe I didnt' search very well or maybe I dont know how and where to start. so yes ur input are highly welcome just like your presence.

I'd love to see one! Not that I'm not grateful to the cooks for their ROMs, I'd like to know how it's done and maybe add a few programs of my own to a ROM.
Oh, and I think it'd be best to start right at the beginning so that everyone is at the same level eventually.
Thanks!
I started cockin roms a couple years ago and said the exact same thing how the information is scattered.. i'm in, just let me know what you need and i'll help with what i can.
I also see some tutorials in many sub-forums, but having to look at 4 different pages just to do one step in cooking a ROM is a little troublesome and confusing. So here's what I think should happen:
I think there should be a sticky thread that has clear steps (a guide) on how to cook ROMs.
Then there should also be a sticky thread that has all kitchens from chefs that want to release them. (Similar to the Radio Collection Thread.)
That would help a lot of people! I want to cook ROMs when I have the time (over summer) and if (hopefully when) this happens, it would be easier for many people like me to cook ROMs.
BesFen made a solid tutorial for using Visual kitchen in the Opal forum, and I helped with that one. I think this is an excellent idea and I'd love to help with it in whatever capacity I can.
Link: Installing & Using Ervius Visual Kitchen V1.8.1 For OPAL
edit: Just read the poll results. Whoever said no is obviously not XDA material.
i dont mind helping with this
Thanks for starting this thread.. Been using excellent ROMs from NRGZ & b16b, but want to do my own thing for my Rhodium. Hopefully, this will get me to appreciate the efforts of these 2 fine cooks and use the facilities provided by XDA better..
I've been trying to wrap my head around the info provided by Da_G in this super thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445
It is taking a while for a newbie like me..
When I had my XV6800(AKA Titan) after a while of modding I started cooking my own roms. I usually removed the garbage I would never use to shrink the Rom size. I then left for a BB in Nov. 2008. Well my senses have come around and I will be back to WinMo with a TP2 on Wed. So I would like to see a kitchen to cooking rom Tutorial assuming it is different. I know that of course CDMA vs GSM will be with because of the carrier CAB. This go around I am leaving VZW to T-Mobile.
So, what's happened with this and this thread? Has it all turned out to be a p**s take?
I would love to see a cohesive tutorial on how to cook a ROM.
I've poked around in the kitchen threads but have gotten kind of lost and overwhelmed. It seems like information is so scattered around.
I've been looking for a project to do for awhile and have thought that ROM cooking might be kinda fun. Initially, I'd just like to make something with the features I want but who knows where it might go. I think I've tried every TP2 ROM on XDA-Developers now and, while I've found some excellent ones, nothing that quite screams "this is EXACTLY what I want".
So...yeah...a good "how-to" would be excellent and I'd be forever grateful.
FWIW, I'd be happy to do some trade-work in exchange for this. I've got a pretty decent technical skill set...just not one involving ROM cooking.
Same here.. I'm stuck on getting a build to use.. Looking for a good NAM build : Tilt2 stock or something for Tilt2 will be a good start..
My first attempt is with the Eruvius Visual kitchen. I think I got all the required files. There were multiple download links in the original thread. I'm guessing that I get the older version and replace the latest kitchen .exe on top.
I'd love to try to cook my own ROM. I agree that the information seems sparse and kinda scattered. My cursory browsing very much gives the vibe that information for Touch Pro 2 ROM Development has an unspoken understanding that you've made ROMs before. Not me.
I'd love a simple step-by-step tutorial (for rhodium), cause I'd like to build a simple ROM based on the latest 5.5.3/5, without manila...

how to use please?

can someone please write up a guide on how to use "HTC_Himalaya_WM6.5.3_28230_v2_WWE_Kitchen" by sundream or aeroflyluby's aerokitchen as being a bit of a noob all the stuff that comes to old hands that know how to use them with out thinking is quite a bit harder for us.
and i think it would get a lot of thanks from other noobs that want to start using kitchens but dont know where to start.
up untill recently i have modded a lot of OS like xp,vista and win 7 and now i own a himalaya i want to do the same for that.
any help thankfull.
