Car/Bike Mount Kit Recommendations For TMOUSA HD2 - HD2 Accessories

I've read the thread over on the Euro HD2 part of the site, but there's little said about car & bike mounts that fit the TMOUSA HD2's. I'm especially interested in mounts that can charge while using GPS/Sat Nav (evidently some charges don't provide enough output). Any recommendations?

Well it's not any use for bikes, but brodit makes the best car mounts I've ever used, and you can order them with or without a power connection built-in. The one I used with my wizard charged it even faster than a wall charger. They also will let you flip the phone from portrait to landscape (and back) as needed.

sirphunkee - thanks for the info on the Brodit adapters. I was looking at both the Brodit adapters and the Herbert Richter mounts (not a fan of the vent mounts) from http://www.pdahut.com/store/home.php?cat=2717 . The one nice thing I can see from their stuff is that you could have a Herbert Richter car mount and bike mount and use the same Brodit adapter for both. Anyone using any others with success?

Actually Brodit/ProClip does make a mount for bikes... Brodit Bike Mount. I don't own the bike mount myself but I can definitely vouch for their car mounts, I've used them for my last two devices and now presently for my HD2.

Nice! I just ordered my ProClip Auto Mount for the HD2 (USA). This is more money than I wanted to spend, but it looks like a great solution and I really like where it will mount to my dash.
Again, Great forums, and great site.

Two thumbs up for ProClip
I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but wow, the ProClip is a spectacular car mounting system. Good quality mount, that works very well. It was more money than I wanted to part with, but I am satisfied.
I didn't think about the fact that I will have to ditch the rubber glove the HD2 comes with. I suppose I better invest in a clear shield solution and a belt clip case like the RIMs used to come in.

If you're referring to using a clear shield while it's in the proclip car mount then it wont work. The clear shield will make it to big and not fit properly in the mount...I tried the same thing a couple devices ago.

try www.bracketron.com. They have just about everything I could think of, and decent prices. I love my universal usb charger.
Also, if you wish to get the bike mount, looks like all of the brackets, waterproof cases, etc have universal slots on the back to fit any type of mount.

Good tip. Darn! Well I guess I will have to just use it bare. I really wish the HD2 had a finish like the original HTC Dash for T-Mobile. It was a slight rubbery texture that didn't slide at all. These slick finishes lead to drops and falls.

Bicycle Mount
I just bought this from Amazon and used it today. Did 15 miles and it was awesome. I use a GPS app and listen to my music via bluetooth headphones and it was nice not to have to put my phone in my pouch.

Here's an interesting and inexepnsive alternative that I just ordered. Will let you know how it is when I receive it.

The best car mount?
Anybody use this from Brodit? I am just about to buy one...

I have used Brodit stuff in the past and I am crazy about their products. Every now and then they have one that does not fit exactly properly, however I believe this one should work well - for the US T-Moboe version.... anybody have this?

On the first page of this thread there are many posts of users (including myself) who've made this purchase and love it. You can't go wrong with this mount, the best I've used to date.

is there a way i can use the pro clip and still maintain use of the micro usb slot? I have a carputer and i tether the hd2 to my PC, so I would need to be able to access the micro USB port to connect a usb cable to the pc

Yes, the usb slot is always accessable with pro clip mounts. The need to be able to charge the device while in the mount is crucial.

Actually, the proclips are available with and without a built-in charger...so if you want to keep the port free, just be sure to order the one that doesn't have the charger cord/plug attached.

i would go with the brodit holders. i have had them for my last 4 phones and they are great . The fit is great, however they arn't as cheap as some... but you do pay for what you get.
a good company to get them from is dsl developments. mine should be here in a min so i will post a few pics if your interested

Came today with charger, holder identical with the one provided by O2 UK with Orbit 2. It's holding HD2 very nicely.

Same here. I've already got the Brodit active mount installed it's the 4th one now. It's one of the first things I buy when I get a new phone. I use a RAM suction mount instead of the vent clip option. It's so easy to use just slide the phone in and out.
Ditto. I've just fitted a Brodit active mount for my HD2. Good quality mount that holds the HD2 firmly vertically or horizontally and the power connector lines up perfectly. I never regretted buying Brodit mounts for my past two phones and this one looks to be no exception.
same as above Brodit holder every time, good quality, good fit, not cheap but with a £500 phone its well worth getting something thats not going to drop it eh?
Brodit all the way! btw, there is a active thread already on this with many posts

Why not having a look on www.brodit.com.
I already installed the active one but removed the cig-plug (whole cable) and replaced it by a USB cable. So I'm also able to listen music while charging.
Works like a charm.

Hi Joerg,
How did you do this, my car stereo has a USB input and I'm also hoping this maybe a partial workaround to the Bluetooth issue.
Is there a line out in the micro-usb-plug, too? Like in the older HTC-devices or can i only get sound over the 3.5mm-headphone-plug?
On my polaris i used a htc adapter, where i pluged in a 3.5mm-sound-cable.

The Audio line out on the HD (mini USB) was not available so I can't imagine it being reinstated for the the HD2.
That´s bad. So i allways have to plug in two cables.
it looks nice. Thanks!
However, having a look at it, it seems like it's not possible to keep the HD2 horizontally (I mean the support holding the HD2 seems to be only for vertical use). Is this correct?

Hmm, Pre-order and the pictures are faked (charging lead plugging in the left hand side?). Best wait till after their September due date and check again, it looks like it will be a nice solution if it arrives.
I bought a universal car dock from ebay and whilst the phone fits (kind of) the streak is just so damn heavy it shakes about A LOT. It's usable, but very irritating.
Not sure what these 2 will be like though, but watch out for shaking

Sure... aside from the over-inflated price. I bought mine from a local Wireless Wave here in Toronto and it works just as well for $20 taxes in.
Dell car kit far from perfect
I bought the car kit from Dell, and no matter whether the device is hanging from the windshield or off the dash, the Streak bounces around like mad when I am driving. My car is nowhere NEAR that bad - it is a heavy device and an awkward mount.
I just ordered a GPS t-mount from ProClip that might work well. I will take the sleeve the Streak sits in on the gooseneck and mount that on the ProClip mount, then attach that to the vehicle mount made for my car. That should lock the device down.
It's an expensive solution, but I spend about an hour each way commuting daily, so it is really a necessity for me. My mount should be here on Wednesday, and if anyone is interested I will write it up and post a picture or two if it works.
pictures would be awesome.
Do you see anyway to have the adapter attached (jerry-rigged) to the mount so that it plugs in when you insert the Streak?
I am looking for a way, as plugging the cable in is extremely tempermental, and a pain, to be honest!!
I suppose you could do something on the bottom of the Dell sleeve to hold the cable. I will have my cable secured on the console and the mount, so it is no problem for me to plug it in the bottom of the phone when I put it in the stand.
The mount comes in tomorrow. Can't wait. Had to slam on the brakes on the way home today and it looked like my phone was on the business end of a trebuchet...

In the US it is only 39.99.... not too expensive if you ask me. Plus this car docking kit really is perfect for the Streak. The sides are flexible rubber that hold the Streak and on the back there are rubber pads so absolutely no plastic is touching the Streak resulting in no scratches. Plus you get a a cable with it.
Perfection is worth the 40 bucks. Although I would love to see images of the one you purchased and seem pleased with.
I have the Dell car kit and I like it. It seems reasonably priced at $40 since it comes with a cigar lighter-USB adapter and USB cable as separate items. One can never have too many charging cables or options. The mount does jiggle a bit however this can be cured by positioning the mount so the cradle rests on top of the dash rather than suspended in mid-air.

I'm looking to use the dell case inners for a car holder. I have some garmin mounts that will allow me to fix to the dash.
The issue with the ones from ebay (original post) the holding part is covering the power pdmi connector.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Anyone thinking of making their own car mount should make clearance for the camera lens so it can be used as a dash-cam. Dell did not do this and it would require some cutting on their kit.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I acutally brought one of these:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/clingo-universal-in-car-holder-p25398.htm
The arm is solid but since it still sticks out a fair bit and the phone is kinda heavy, it does bounce a little (nothing compared to the flexi arms you find on most other phone holders). And since the Dell has a flat back, it sticks pretty well too (though I have had it drop once but I think that was cos my brother didn't put it on properly and due to the weight, it slowly peeled itself off). The pad only covers a small area of the back of the phone so you can use the camera, and there's also no clamps that would obscure the charging port or the buttons on top.
If the docking station was cheaper, I'd seriously consider getting another one for the car, that way I can easily put it on and take it off with super easy and I can leave the cable plugged in and just tuck it away (saves so much time when I do multiple deliveries and stuff).

Car Mount

Anybody know if there is a car mount available that is either specific to the Holiday, or one that is universal but works just as well? I want to try iOnRoad:
Not that I need it, because I'm a good driver.. lol just curious as to how well it works. Plus, I use navigation on occasion and it would be nice to have a real mount rather than propping the phone up on the dash or holding it.
Here you are.
Awesome. But, you know, I can't really Google any car mounts Vivid users have already tried out and experienced for themselves. Because even though I have, I haven't found any. So that's really why I asked. Nice try, though.

next time, maybe you should check the google links before trying to be funny... you know... the ones that don't actually have mounts for the vivid...
thanks.
While they don't have one for the Vivid/Raider yet, I've always used ProClip mounts (Brodit outside of North America). They come in two pieces, one custom fit to the vehicle and one custom fit to the phone, and I like it very much. I've emailed them to see if they'll make a Vivid mount, but they gave the standard "We don't know what our plans are" answer. If people are interested, email them, maybe if they get enough questions, they'll actually make one!
The ProClips are ok. I've used them before. However, I've really grown to like the Scosche universal that you can find at Walmart. It uses two small bottom feet and has sticky gel on the back to hold the phone.
It comes with a windshield mount. When the gel loses its stick, just clean it with a damp rag. Mine has lasted through three cellphones and going.
Kensigton Universal Car Mount
I just bought this a few weeks ago and it work excellent with the Vivid, it holds the phone securely and has very minimalist design. To remove the phone from the holder is just a press of a button. I used the vent clip mounting option, as I prefer not to obstruct the windshield with anything. Below is the link to the product page on Amazon, which is where I bought it from.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SE6LD0
I picked up a thunderbolt dock last night at Verizon (only $10) cut off the left side (farthest from plug) and it fits and world really well, im ganna add some foam to the back so it fits in better and more securely.
I am actually using a Kensington iPhone car mount (can't post a link yet) granted my Vivid isn't in a case but its only about $10 on Amazon and it holds the phone snugly while given access to the charging port and can rotate from lanscape to portrait easily.
The only issue I have is that the mic on this phone is so weak that I can't be heard on the phone if I answer on speakerphone while driving. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Anyone know if htc makes different cradles for their car docks? I recently looked at an htc car mount/ dock for an evo 3d and it looks like an amazing mount with superior quality. I found a way to take off the evo 3d specific "cradle" and was wondering why they designed it that way if I couldn't find any other cradles online. It would totally make sense if I could go to a parts website and just buy the cheap cradle part. The mount is clearance at Best Buy so this would be the best inexpensive option I think.

Ive actually been in the market for a vent mount myself. I dont like window mounts mainly because they put your phone where it's sitting right in the sun the entire time its in the mount. Vent mounts help some to keep it out of the sun. I haven't bought one yet, but I plan to in the near future. However, before I do, I think I'm going to try this first. Found it in another thread, thought I'd share it here too.
http://lifehacker.com/5747897/how-to-build-a-car-mount-for-your-cellphone-from-office-supplies
My personal favorite is still the Mountek.
My first mount for my Inspire was a mountek. It worked great for what it is. I read somewhere that:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052G6IRG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
can be modified to fit the phone. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow and found this thread looking for the other thread lol. IIRC you have to modify (or cut off for the less handy) the portion of the mount that curves around the top of the phone (mic jack area). No worried as the USB port with firm top/bottom clamping should hold the phone from lateral movement in landscape modes. I definately would not try to have it hold the phone upside down when modified.
Try a type similar to the Rocketfish Universal mount...
Hi guys,
Just recently got the Vivid. Best Buy sells the Rocketfish Universal mount for about $25 or so. I'm sure there's something similar out on the web...I like this mount because I can move the arms/feet around the buttons and still secure the phone in mount. Useful if you have a GPS (like google navigate doesn't do a fair job) or another phone that you swap in and out with...
Would love to find a mount suitable for a '95 Honda VT1100 (though with some velcro strapping the Rocketfish would work. Any suggestions there?

Does yours allow the phone to actually charge properly? Mine it just slowly drains, figured I would see what your results were before dropping even more money on yet another cig lighter to usb port. My current one is spec'd to 500mA so if its functioning its provides the juice.
EDIT: Tested in car mode attached directly to the charger and it still slowly drained. must not be the dock then :/

Car Mount for the LG G2 - Any recommendations?

I want something that can adjust both up and down and left to right. I saw the SCS-270 for Verizon but I have the Sprint version of the LG G2. I know the Verizon size is a bit bigger because of the wireless charging so will the SCS-270 work on Sprint?

I use this one, it is very easy to put the phone in the mount but be aware if you have a bigger case it may not fit well.
I had to cut the spring down a little and stretch it because it was too tight for my liking and I use a thin Nillkin case (very nice btw).
I do really like it though because it is so easy to put in the mount. :good:
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I found some on eBay that are custom fit for only $10 shipped. I'll post the results when it arrives.

Check out this seller. I will have mine on Saturday so I can't speak for the quality till then but these are exact fits, cheap and shipped from the US.

Keep watch on slickdeals.net for the iOttie. It's meant for iPhones, but my phone fits fine. ~$10 is a good price for it.
Like other mounts, it secures the phone confidently, but I chose the iOttie because it has a very sticky suction cup. I've got a leather dash, with tons of little ridges and bumps, and my mount has adhered without dislodging for the last month. It's doesn't use a glue-like adhesive. You can reuse it if you run the cup under warm water, and it sticks like new.
They make the iOttie in XL, but it's a few bucks more.
Just hit up Amazon for reviews and pics.
Just my 2 cents... If you have a case on the phone... The best thing I've found is the imagnet mount on amazon.

Wich was useless when I switched to Verizon and got a Bionic with the custom car mount. All so I could put the phone into car mode. When I got the G2 I said screw a custom car mount. Bought the iOttie flex 2 and and Damn happy with it. The iOttie flex 3 is even better. No it doesn't put my G2 into car mode. But I'm over it. Just got a lumia 1520 and it fits my flex 2 just fine. That's just my opinion after 15+ phones over 15 years

I'm confused. Why wouldn't you use this one? I have it and it's great, plus it puts the phone into car mode.

Does this mount fit non-Verizon variants?
No idea if none VZW G2's fit in the VZW Car mount. I guess you could always go to your local VZW store and ask to try out the car mount.
I orded this Mountek nGroove CD slot mount off Amazon and I love it. My dashboard mounts always fall off, especially harrowing on a long road trip (not to mention, potentially damaging my phone). But I'm very happy with this slot mount. You put it in your CD slot (and yes, you can have a CD in there), tighten the wing so it keeps the slot inserted tightly, place the phone in the mount, and close the arms. It's secure and easy for me to see. It blocks my Sonata's clock, so if I need the time, I have to look at the tiny print on my phone.
This is the link to the mount on their official site: http://www.mountek.com/shop/cell-ph...al-cd-slot-mount-cell-phones-and-gps-devices/
Virus Vice Car Cradle
I ordered such holder in the machine. The cover shouldn't be removed (any thickness).
Virus Vice Car Cradle Mount Holder Stand Kit for Smart Phone iPhone 4/4S/5

The Arkon mount is quite durable and fits the G2...

I purchased the Mountek Snap so I could mount any device. The magnet is thin enough to fit inside the case when you snap off the back.
I use the LG wireless charging car dock. Verizon though, I guess it would be useless if you don't have wireless charger.

Can anyone recommend a car dock?

Anyone have any recommendations for a car dock that will hold an M8 in it's case?

Not really. There are the generic ones, but those suck. I just take the case off when I drive farther than a few minutes.

and use the HTC one for this device?
I've used the Mountek nGroove MT5000 for years. It's a universal CD slot mount, fully adjustable for any phone really...
I drive around for work every day for hours and hours.
Downsides... not an actual "Dock" for the M8, rather a holder for the phone. But I plug in with USB anyway to ciglighter
Upsides... Not mounted in Window, so it's in less sunlight than a windshield mount. If you're lucky, you may have a vent near the CD slot so air can flow directly to the phone if you drive for more than an hour.

I use Brodit myself, but I'm sure there are tons of other good ones.
Just ordered this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0086YLJGQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i07?ie=UTF8&psc=1
iBolt docks are pretty good. I've used the one for GalaxyS3 from them and it was pretty solid.
Just got the iBOLT xProDock for HTC Phones and it's just what I wanted - sturdy, can be used with a case, integrated charging cable, which triggers car mode automatically. It's a bit more expensive than no-name car docks, but it's worth it.

How easy is it to put in the dock? I used to have a Droid X car dock, and it literally just slid right in, though from the pictures the iBOLT doesn't look quite that simple. I just don't want something I'll have to fiddle with for a couple minutes every time I put it in.
Pretty easy, you push the spring-loaded upper part up with the right side of the phone and it kinda clicks in.
Go for brodit, they are very good :

Will run you about $70, but by far the best choice. I got a universal medium sized holder since I am always switching phones.

+1 for the Mountek nGroove. It works amazingly well, very simple yet well made.
True, its not a "dock" if the OP is looking for something that will connect the phone for charging or connect to head unit.
Only downsides I will add, one should look at the photos of the product before buying, and determine if this holder will interfere or block any controls or displays. For instance, on a few cars, the CD slot is located low on the dash. So it might not be an ideal location for viewing the phone for navigation, etc.; or even interfere with your gearshift knob. But I travel for work a good amount, used this holder on a number of different rental car models, and it works much more often than it doesn't. And it takes about 10 seconds to install on just about any car.
Other downside, if is you actually use your CD player. Mine hasn't had a CD inserted in it for years.
The nGroove is so ridiculously simple and effective that my wife wanted one for herself immediately (so I got her one); and numerous coworkers and friends have commented how great an idea it as, and that they wanted one, too.
