I recently installed the Official Sprint RUU 2.1 Eclair and when I goto use the Speech-to-Text feature on the keyboard it was no where to be found. The programs installed but i cant find the microphone button.
Also, was FriendStream included with the Sprint RUU cause i dont have that showing up either.
Doesn't belong in dev.
The official release is out for sprint today via htc website. But note that no one has been able to root their phone with the leaked ruu release or the official release as of yet!!!!

Damage took the leaked (now Released) RUU and basically ripped out the pieces that would cause your phone to be unrooted and then packaged it back together so users could flash it without losing their root access. (Thank you Damage!)
There are no true complete "rooted RUU" or "rooted ROMs" based on the leaked (now Released) RUU. The hboot in the new RUU is newer and an expoit has not been built yet. There are ROMs using pieces (framework, apps, etc.) from the leaked RUU.

Speach-to-Text keyboard feature was not included with the release. "Problem" by design.
How did this turn into a root discussion? The speech to text button is not on the stock htc kb gotta get the modded hda kb
edit: xda kb sorry, was on phone
that sucks! the speech to text is awesome. can that be installed on a non-rooted 2.1 hero?

K, thought so. could also just buy smart keyboard. i know that has voice input for 2.0 or higher
dumb ?, where do i get the hda .apk? i searched this site & coudln't find it.
So where is damages version?
This is the version that was released a few days ago, but now its officially released and we were having issues being rooted on it, right? But damage got it to root, so we can flash this over 2.1 roms now, right?
Damage didn't root anything. What he did was extract the update.zip for flashing and made sure superuser worked.
When you flash damage's or any other zip file based ROM for that matter, you aren't doing anything to modify your phone's hboot or recovery partitions.
the 2.1 RUU is a whole package. When you execute it it wipes all of your partitions. Recovery and HBoot included. This removes Root and the ability to use a custom recovery. 2.1 hasn't been exploited yet. PERIOD.

Can't Flash Another ROM
I threw on the Sprint official ROM and now I can't flash back to another ROM. I can't get into recovery mode (pretty picture of a Hero with a red "!").
Any help?
Doesn't mean we have the same exploits.
Good example. Hero and Eris ran very similar code (Cupcake version 1.5). We had ours rooted in about a month after release. The Eris had the vulnerability that allowed the Hero to root patched...their root is based on a completely different exploit and took much longer to root.

Lets starts with a few Question about this unofficial Sprint Release...
I download the RUU Update, but....
Wallpaper Live are not working...
Bluetooth cannot send or recibe...
Any suggetions?
There are no live wallpapers in the release. It's unlikely that Sprint will ever include them.
The BT problem has been discussed in the dev forum but there isn't a fix as of yet. I certainly hope this isn't the official release.

Actually about that I ran the ruu to on one of my heros and you can flash an update.zip in recovery on the new recovery just has to be signed with release keys (by the way not trying to be a **** I read my statement and that's how I sound). The only thing is it has to be htc release keys as of my little knowledge
Just wondering if the new leaked sprint 2.1 update will work on the normal HTC Heros? Because mine doesnt have a set provider.....
Has anyone tried the new update on a none sprint HTC Hero?

bad idea if you run the new ruu you could lose the ability to use internet and mms if it doesn't have your apn settings in it. And since there is no way to root 2.1 unless you know how to make an exe and an hboot file. You could be screwed till the official release.

Your probably right and I'll tell you why sprint makes money if we don't have those things. Also if you look at the samsungs update (which the samsung has a better processor than ours) it doesn't have them.

Official is 1.6. There should be an OTA update from your service provider. Any custom installs require root.
Do providers have the same method of supplying OTA or will I have to ask my provider?
Just download the official 1.6 rom and install it on your phone by renaming to "update.zip" and flashing it.
I can't post a link cuz I'm new, but google "official 1.6 g1" and you'll find it.

Yes, 1.6 is the highest like everyone else has said. You will notice on this forum we have ROM's going all the way up to 2.1 or so.
Just my opinion and my advice, stick to 1.6. The G1 in my opinion just doesn't have the hardware to run 2.1 as well as a reliable every-day use phone should, especially as you have more and more applications and widgets, etc.

If you have robbers and have all the latest OTA's (1.5), then you've been screwed -- need JTAG to get root.
The latest HTC build (the word "official" doesn't apply to android at all) is 1.6, which you can get from developer.htc.com/adp.html -- flashing procedures includes, however, they won't work if you don't have root.
The OTA updates for each provider differ in their security keys, so an update for one provider WILL NOT work on a phone sold by someone else.
so i have to root the phone to run 1.6?

Easiest way to do it all is going to be to do the official RUU from HTC, but not the one mentioned above because you wont be able to use unrevoked one click root. Follow this guide shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 There is a link to the RUU you will need. Its the easiest method to get this done, make sure after you gain root access you download ROMmanager from the market and flash clockworkmod recovery to be able to start flashing custom roms. Hope this helps!
If you need a cable I can send you one. They are not expensive and readily available from the truck stop, corner store, wal mart, best buy..... Let me know though, if you need one.
When I first rooted 1.5 I used a app called "flash rec" its a old way of flashing a recovery. It might work for you. If you want a copy just pm me with your email and I'll send you a copy. You'll have to google how to use it correctly though. Its been a while since I rooted. Not a 100% sure it will work for you but I think it should since your running 1.5

i just got gingerbread on mine its awesome fast and faster with setcpu.
I just clicked on the link on the HTC web site. (don't use the http version) and it did the rest. Then rooted my phone using the super one click root that is in this forum. worked for me. I also like the ClockworkMod, you can only get 2.5 free from the market, but can get 3.0 from their website. Alway remember before you root, or flash you phone to back it up. You will thank me for that advice later. You can use ClockworkMod to back up.

Is there a way to upgrade 1.5 to 2.1 without erasing eveything?
Rooted and running CM 6.1.0, have backed up 1.21 firmware, what is the easiest way to unroot and return to stock? (remove CWM also). Need to send the phone in for button repair. If I apply OTA update on the 1.21 firmware (updating to 2.2) will it wipe everything clean?

uhh im not too sure anymore but i think the best way to do it would be to apply an older stock rooted rom and then plug your phone into a comp with htc sync, and then do the update thing thats it got on there.. thats the way i was told a while back but im not sure if theres an easier/better way to do it. probably should wait till someone else comments before you go do anything but yeah youre meant to do something like that ^ i believe..
From my own experience, the technicians doesn't know if its stock, cm or what. They fix the problem and that's it.
I've sent my device twice with cm on it and there was no problem

Thanks for the replies although I would be happy to send it in with CM and whatnot, as it is not mine I do not even want to take the risk. Can anyone confirm that installing the latest vodafone firmware will restore phone to stock?
basically run a htc update on it (if you haven't S-OFFed then 2.1 is fine)
Search isn't working now so I can't link you, but either way find an offical RUU and it will do everything for you. Remember if you do update it to froyo (official) it is a difference process to root again (but still possible)
Or else.. search the forum.. I made a thread called "easiest way to unroot".. or something like that.. Always use the SEARCH feature before asking questions..

It's time for the younglings my friend
method 1 (preferred)
you can leave the LEGEIMG.zip to the root of your goldcard and go to boot loader and let it load and you confirm the update. i suggest using the same one that you use for the downgrade.
if, you don't have it download Legend rooting tools, extract the zip. locate testimage.zip... copy it to your goldcard and rename it to LEGEIMG.zip. (make sure you dont ended up renaming it to LEGEIMG.zip.zip if you know what i mean lol)
method 2 (goldcard not needed)
For the past few days i've been playing around with official RUU. and heres what i've done so far on testing the official RUUs from HTC (link from stickies)... it'll turn your Legend to stock.... even if your on CM7 or any other roms....
But... if you have an HBOOT of less than 1.00... be warn. RUU with Froyo will update it and there's no known method to downgrade. unless you dont care about it and thinks its about time you update it and you have intention on doing the S-OFF...
Hello people, I hope I'm not being a 'bloody annoying bastard '- I really have searched the internet forums thoroughly for a solution to my predicament.
I recently bought a Bell network branded HTC Raider with stock GB (2.3.4) rom. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone. In my haste to get rid of the bloatware, I stupidly used Root Explorer to delete files instead using Titanium Backup - ergo, no chance to restore deleted stuff. Anyway, now when I press 'Personalize' on the launcher bar, and then try to choose any of the sound options,(ringtones, notifications or alarms), I get a message saying 'The linked program is no longer installed on your phone'. And if I try to change the notification sound from within, say, the messages app, the app 'has to close'. The only 'program' that I can think of that is even remotely connected with sound is Soundhound, which I deleted, but I don't believe that would be the cause. I can still set a ringtone using the ringtone widget, but I can't change the notification or alarm sounds, even though I can still see and play them in System/Media/Audio. Has anyone any idea what I have inadvertently deleted? Something from HTC Sense, I'm guessing. Is it possible to download the Sense 3.0 files and pick them apart to perhaps find what I'm missing?
Sorry if this is a dumb question - my first post and all. Cheers.

I was able to find a link to the stock ICS update RUU for Bell Raiders
(this will upgrade your phone to Ice Cream Sandwich and wipe everything)
If you want to stick with the BellMobility stock Gingerbread, I think I have it archived at home. I can upload it this evening if you want it.
Thanks to the ICS BellMobility RUU post by kennethpenn

(there are 2 mirror links available for this download)
and... here is the upload of the GB BellMobility RUU!

Thank you, I'll try for the Gingerbread first, just to try to find out what I deleted. Upgrade to ICS I believe I can get from HTC OTA if I return the phone to stock first. I'm still new at this flashing business, so I'm grateful for any help.

When you run an HTC RUU exe, it takes a little time to extract whatever files it needs. Once you get to the very first step of the RUU (where you get to click buttons), I believe you can go to C:\Users\whoever\AppData\Local\Temp (for Win7 users) and then sort by modified date. You should see a folder that was very recently created. If you poke around in there, you may find a file called "rom.zip". That should be the stock rom from the RUU. But what you do with it is at your own risk!
mg2 is right - just relock the bootloader and the RUU will bring your phone back to glorious stock. It's so much easier than messing around. Then you can decide what your next step is.

Yes, I realise now that reflashing the stock rom was the easiest way. You do not need to be S-OFF to install custom roms: just need to flash boot.img using fastboot and flash rom thru recovery
With S_OFF you flash kernel (boot.img) thru recovery instead of using fastboot

If you're a ROM-a-Holic like me (and maybe a few others around here) and want to try many different roms and kernels to find out what you like the most, you'll want to do the S-OFF procedure. It's not that bad, and it's definitely convenient to be able to download a stack of roms and kernels, put them on your SD card, and then sit out on the lawn enjoying some sun and flashing your phone silly directly from recovery without needing fastboot! I highly recommend it.

I agree! If you follow the instructions from the SuperGuide (stickied in the development forum I believe) exactly, you shouldn't have any problems with the S-OFF procedure.
