Hi all,
This is my first time posting...i need some help over here...currently i'm using HTC touch diamond 2 and i cant set mp3 tones as my sms tone(new text message)..
i tried the making 'media' folder and create a sub folder called 'audio' and another sub folder in audio called 'notifications', 'ringtones', 'alarms'...but this method is not working...
is there any way to solve this problem???
any softwares??
SMS Tones
Drop the tones you want for SMS directly in the windows folder. they will then be available.
EDIT. You can also drop them into \Storage Card\My Documents and they will work, but only directly in that folder, not in a sub-folder.
You have to convert the file to .wav format and dump into Windows directory.
codhunter..do u means the windows folder in my original storage or the windows folder in my memory card???
Windows directory on your device.
@ codhunter,
Did they make you change the funny Avatar you had?
Yes, Bruce. i was kindly requested to change it by site admin after complaints...
krishvind
respect to bruce but i don't think you need to convert to .wav format. i have an .mp3 sms tone set on my device right now. just drop in windows folder on your device.
bruce..i searched song format converted n i found none so far...is there any as far as u know??
Unless....
Unless there is some kind of size limit or something, .mp3 is o.k. for sms tone. just double checked and i definately have a small .mp3 file as my sms tone!!!
Nicholas Cage as Cameron Poe in Con Air, "I said, PUT. THE. BUNNY, BACK. IN. THE. BOX".
thx bruce and codhunter...i got it...now i can set mp3 tone as my sms tone...thx...

Thanks and you are correct. I just have some .mp3's that don't work.
Thanks for clarifying.
Reg edit?
does anyone know if there's a reg edit to change the path that points to sms tones. i mean so a folder for sms tones could be created to drop tones into, instead of \Windows or \Storage Card\My Documents? been looking through the registry, but cannot find anything.

Under HKCU\Control Panel\Notifications, there is a key for each type of assignable sound, so you would have to find the key for "New Message" and set the path under "Wave:", but there is not one universal path for all sounds.
WM only checks in \Windows: and in \Windows\Rings
Works well if you put sounds in \Application Data\Sounds\

So it's easy enough to set your own ringtone.
But what folder do I drop sounds into so I can select them as a new txt msg tone?
Thanks,
Roy.
just put the wav or mp3 in the 'windows' folder...
then you will be able to chose it among the sms sounds...

or, better (in my opinion) into the internal storage/my documents. this way after a hard reset or flashing a new ROM you will not have to copy them again and as a bonus you'll have more memory in the "device".

Aha .. I did not know that .... much better
Right i have searched and searched and cannot get the answer i am looking for. I have the mp3 i want as an SMS tone in \storage\my docs, \my device\windows, plus all the other places people suggest and still it will not allow me to select the tone for SMS. Some one please help its driving me mad!
Easiest way if you are stuggling is to open the mp3 trimmer application, browse for the file where the mp3 is, select the mp3, then edit it to your liking. The phone will then ask you if you want it set as default ringtone!!
Hope this helps
Matt
Have you tried putting the files in /Application Data/Sounds/ ? Works for me..
I have never been able to use an MP3 file as an SMS, Mail, MMS, Alarm etc tone. Using it for a ringtone however works fine.
It seems that it only want WAV files if you want it for an SMS, Mail etc tone. So convert the file to WAV using you PC / MAC and drop it in /Windows. Then you can select it.
try putting it on the root of phone memory.
mine never works on internal storage but on phone
memory is fine.
Yep had it in route and still wont work. tried in app data\sounds still no joy. Ill try the convert to a wav file see if i get anywhere with that
nope still no joy with the WAV file
Try not only to save it as .wav but as a wavefile in PCM format
I spend some time back on the earlier QTEK's to get this part working, best shot is that it's still like this.
Kindly
you should copy them to your windows folder on the phone
thats where te other sms tones are stored, worked for me even with mp3 files

lol thanks - as i said above it doesnt work
I've got my worms sms notification located in File explorer>My device>Internal storage.
Then go to sounds/notifications and it should appear in the available sounds list.
Works fine... however I did try it with another mp3 file in exactly the same way and although it appears in the list it won't actually play the sound.

Available patch for mp3 SMS tones was:

Tried still will not work
I'm running HTC Home on my tilt...Today I changed my default ringtone from a mp3 file to another mp3, but it didn't change.... I can play the files, so I know the files are good, but it will not change in HTC Home or under the system>sounds & notifications....
Anyone know what I need to do?
Firstly, make sure that your mp3 files are associated with wmplayer otherwise you cannot play mp3's as ringtones, secondly make sure that your mp3's for ringtones are placed in the device/rings folder. That should sort it out.
I moved the file to the rings folder, but it still changes back after I close the sounds window. The ringtone that it is currently using is a mp3 file in the My documents folder. How do I check to verify the program mp3s are associated with?

Can you go into the file explorer i nthe programs folder, then browse to the mp3 you want to use as a ring tone, hold the stylus down on the file and select "set as Ringtone" from the drop down list.
What does that do?

That's easy. What file explorer app do you use? If you use Total Commander (Freeware), then you can associate all mp3's with WMPlayer The WMPlayer icon should show on those files, then you know what app it's associated with. You go File>Properties, select the Associate tab and then select WMPlayer from the Device\Windows directory.
In Resco Explorer, you Tap and Hold file for a pop-up menu and then Open>Open with, and then select WMPLayer.
mskip... It's says "the file has been set as your current ring tone."... but it doesn't do it.
MACkjam.... I use just the file explorer from WM 6.1... the ringtone it's set on is a mp3 file so I would assume it has the proper assoc..
I deleted the mp3 file that was set as the ringtone... it moved down the list to the next mp3 file and now I can't change it......
I have tried changing the ringtone via:
1. File Explorer
2. HTC Home tab
3. System>sounds
In system>sounds, every time I try to change it, it looks like it's changed and then I can go back to see, it's just like before.
In HTC Home, it allows me to select another, but it never changes......
Is there a place in the registry I can make the change?

Does it allow you to set non mp3 RingTones? eg. the ones that came on the rom.
no, it is currently set as Ring-WindowsMobile.....I can't change it to anything else.... HTC Home still has the ringtone as mrbeannokia, but the system settings has the Ring-WindowsMobile....
It seems that I can change other sounds, like email and MMS sent...
Could this be a problem with HTC Home?

I have had the similar problem...haven't found the solution to this day.....but there's a workaround delete or move the ringtone which you're using now(ring-windowsmobile - [if it's in rom then you might have a problem deleting it...in that case backup your files...hardreset your phone and check if you can change ringtone on clean rom]) and then you should be able to assign a new ringtone. I've notice that the problem doesn't occur on "clean" roms so most likely some application is screwing up your "Feng shui"
Thanks Arturo... The ringtone is on the ROM, so I can't delete it.....I was hoping I could avoid a hard reset.....

Well in that case you could try to search for a program which allows deleting or renaming files in rom.(I'm not sure if such a program exists at all but it's worth trying if you don't want to hardreset your phone)

Yes; here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0 - edit sound
ie:
Code:
*vibrate*
is equal to vibrate.
Code:
\My Documents\My Ringtones\*put song/ringtone file name here*
" is the default file location.
Thank you zeezee...but I had hard reset my phone before I read you message....
after the hard reset, I installed all the programs I had before and tried changing my ringtones after each...every thing worked fine, until...
This morning, I could change the ringtone, but it would change back after a phone call, so I looked at everything that could set my ringtone and decided that Phone Alarm was the problem... I removed it and now everything works correctly....
I appreciate all the help y'all gave me....
Andy

lol yeah that is a bugger
What Rom are you using? Is it a stock rom or a cooked one? If it really bothers you that much then it might be worth just flashing a new Rom rather than spending your time trying to figure it out.
go in the registry and change the HKEY_Current User> ControlPanel > Sounds and deleted the key of FileSizeLimit.

I am having a problem even getting WM Player to update the Library with the songs from the storage card. It only shows my device as an option and not the storage card. I have taken out and re-inserted the memory card, but still nothing.
Same problem here, but different device.
i can not figure out how to get a mp3 ringtone that i downloaded to work when i get a text. the tone shows up in the new text thing to select which tone u want but it doesnt ring when i get a text? my ringotne from a incoming call works. but not the text
thanks chris
I got the same problem. anyone can help?
are you sure the text tone does not work at all? I am running WM6.1 stock on AT&T Tilt which I purchased a couple of days ago. Today, I did not notice when I received the text. I thought I was probably away from the phone. But when I read your post, I doubt that the same thing is happening here as well?
hmm.. experts?
maybe not an expert, but afaik You cannot use mp3 as a message tone. it's got to be .wav
br
bro
[EDIT]
...and I believe You need to drop it in windows folder
You can use a mp3...you just have to copy it to the windows folder.
do u put it in windows folder in sync or on the phone?
i use resco file explorer to transfer it. You can use the default file explorer. Just do it on your phone. I keep them saved on my card because I flash so often that i just copy them from my card to the windows folder.
mp3's will work as message alert tones. Just make sure you drop it in the windows root directory.
If your particular mp3 file doesn't work try another one.
Also, check this thread out:

You can check this app too.

Easiest way is to use MP3Trimmer.
"Assigning Ringtones" problem for TILT phone...
I'm having the same trouble with assigning ringtones/mp3 files as text alerts, alarm clock tones. I installed the .cab file (ringtone manager) mentioned earlier in the thread, and I have all ringtone files in my WINDOWS folder. Howerver, when I use the installed "Ringtone Manager" program and explore my files...my mp3 files do not show up w/in the "Ringtone Manager" program. Any suggestions? I'm relatively new to all of this...please dumb it down for me.

I don't know from where you got the ringtone manager app. I don't see it anywhere in this thread. Maybe that application doesn't support mp3 files as text msg alerts or something.
I always place my mp3 files in the first screen after you've clicked 'Explore' in ActiveSync. I believe it's called "Mobile Device Center". Afterwards, it should allow you to select the file for texts. Try that. It should work.
I put all tones that i plan on using in the root of my storage card... no problems.
OK i have searched and i didn't find anything that helped me
i want to change my*new text message* tone to custom tone i added
i placed in the ringtones folder, but i cant find it in the drop down menu, under my notifications
basically theres no option for it to be set as a sms tone
i tryed to place it in the tones under windows > rings..that didnt work also..it didnt show
i dont get why it is so difficult to change add your own sms tone..like wow cmon
can some one please tell me in step by step guide how to do accomplish this

YOu can also use MP3. No problem. Put it in /Windows/Rings/ Folder and then you can select it.
Or in your \My Documents or \Storage Card\My Documents
Not true....i can't find the tones anywere:S i did what you guys said...nothing.
just drop it in the /windows folder and it will work, I just figured how to do this yesterday, dont put it in a 'rings' folder
yeah it works great..thanks man!
it has to be WAV and copy paste to windows folder on the phone not the card.
>and not in ringtones.
Ringtones can be mp3 on any location just tabhold and choose use as ringtone.<
Then go to settings<sounds and notification(or so)<tab notifications(bottom tab)<in dropdownmenu action choose messages new text message<then it should be in the dropdown menu.
Carefull WAV is big on Kb.

I had to refresh this info because it was very useful to me and this solution was simpliest I found.
No need to convert Mp3 to WMA and it works. I use storage card method.
i cannot find my window folder so where can i put...
All my ringtones are in "Application Data\Sounds" and it works flawlessly. I can assign any tone to any type of notification.
