Goldcard - Am I doing it wrong? - Legend Android Development

Hi there, For the past few hours I've been trying to create a goldcard with no succes. So far I tried 3 different SD cards (2gb sandisk, 8gb sandisk that came with the phone and a 1gb noname one) and none of them works so I'm kinda wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
First things first. Syncing doesnt work. I got it to finally recognize the sync but thats about it. However I do get the Device ID and everything.
When I format the disk using the phone, there is actually still data on it. Is it supposed to be this way? Can't I format it from within windows?
Second is the unlockr guide. Now English is not my native language but at some point the guide is rather unclear. Once you get the CID code, you have to reverse it the site will automatically add 2 0's. However the next step tells you to change the first 2 digets into 0's. But they already are 0's right? So what do I do? Leave it? change the first 2 digets after the 0's to 0's? (actually I tried both and it didn't work).
Also the guide is just wrong at the point where it tells you to retry the hex thing. If it didn't work the sdcard is damaged and there is no point in trying again because it wont show the correct data anymore. And there isn't actually a point 19 while the writer suggests there is
Sooo is it me doing something wrong or is it a sd card problem? I tried doing it on both win7 x64 and XP.
If it is a sd card problem, what card should I buy? If 3 different cards don't work I get the feeling its more of a lottery than anything else to get a working card but I really don't feel like buying a dozen of sd cards and hope I get lucky. Is there a certain brand/size that will work for sure?

ive been having issues with a 64bit os to but under 32 bit it seems to be going well so far (win7)

I think I now managed to make one using this app: http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
But now I got the goldcard, what do I do next? I got the RUU but do I just run it from my pc with the phone in sync mode? Or do I need to go in some other mode?
edit: btw what is this talk on some sites that your sd card can only be a goldcard? You can just format it right?

MiniSD will not run programs..or anything else!

Hey all, i know there are many miniSD problem threads, but i wasnt able to find this particular one...
I just got a PQI 2GB miniSD, i formated it with SKTools, and started installing some programs...installs go fine, but when i try to run the programs, it says that its not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. i get that msg with all the programs i install...and nothing works on it!!!
Use file explorer to see if you can browse the card. The error you have seen usually mean that the device is unable to read the card. You will need to reformat the card again. I usually do it in my laptop using a card reader.
i can browse it...it gets detected with the right amount of size and everything...my preveious card was a 256 MB and it was always good...
Copy everything in the card to your computer. Reformat the card but using your computer this time. Copy everything back to the card.
ive tried that too!! still nothing...
In that case I am running out of idea I am using the same PQI and have no problem with my Wizard. You probably get a defective card. Maybe it's time to page the vendor for a replacement card.
Usually if you just format it in via the computer, it should work. Try formatting it twice in succession and if it still does not work, you might have a defective card like imisim said above.
Guys, stop confusing...
It has nothing to do with a memory card.
And you Malik use search next time!
Here's the solution -

It has everything to do with the memory card because the solution you have posted won't work and doesn't apply to the OP. The solution only apply to a few applications which doesn't have the "sign-code/certificate". After you have signed the code and it will work for those apps.
The OP problem is that none of the installed programs will work, not just one or two none signing certificate (BTW, most of the none signing apps are usually warez/cracked ) The OP problems are mostly due to the memory card itself.

SD CARD won't FORMAT

Okay well this is my first time on this forum better yet my second day having the G1 and I've already seemed to get in trouble with this phone. Okay well I was attempting to jailbreak a G1 with no data plan. After I had put the Dreaimg file in my F drive I had to go to that rainbow screen and all. After that the phone was locked again so I activated my phone VIA WIFI using Jesus Freaks thread. Then after I got back in the phone I continued to attempt to jailbreak/root my phone so I tried to put the recovery.img and upload zip file in my F drive but it said something about an I/O error. I kept messing with it trying to think of solutions now when I try to click the F drive it says, "The disk in drive F is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" when I press yes and check "Quick Format" it crashes my computer. I am on an XP computer. PLEASE HELP! ):
Well your first problem is that you are using windows.
Just playing, you could always try a card reader. Your card needs to be fat32. If your phone still reads the card, try going into sd in settings and format it through your phone, then retry it on your computer
Its in FAT32 thus I was trying to jailbreak it. Although my phone can't read it, as it seems. When I go to SD in settings all I see is "Total Space", "Available Space", "Unmount/eject SD card". And they are all dark so that I can not press it. And I'm sure I have an SD card in there.
Ok your card is possibely corrupted, since you do not have a recovery image we can't go that way to reformat, hmmmm, card reader, I know reboot your phone, it will pull up a notice that your card is not formatted and it will ask you to format it now right there on the phone
I just rebooted it nothing happened. Also another piece of info, the problem was happening yesterday as I woke up today my phone popped up a message saying Upload now? or something like that and I pressed yes and it fixed but I did the same thing, and tried to jailbreak it, and now I'm back to the same problem. ): Got AIM to help me faster?
Don't got aim. So nothing popped up, you updated by what the ota update if so you are back to your previous build, if you are having serious problems with formating, my best suggestion is a card reader, you can get one for like $15 at walmart. Or try a different sdcard
If you are feeling froggy and are broke, you can try downloading a linux distro and burn a live cd or use unetbootin to make it on a thumb drive. Ubuntu linux has a partion editor that would be able to read it no problem and format it and even partion it for you since you will prob want apps2sd and a linux swap
Ugh I'm a big noob at G1's as I've only had it for one day now. Do you have MSN? Yahoo? something please. I need live help I don't want to brick my phone.
I don't use any of the messaginers, sorry, but the only way you can really brick you phone is to mess up installing the danger spl, anything else you can come back from, the most I can offer is my # and walk you through that way but your easiest option would be the card reader
Eh, can you message me your number?
I'll pm it to you in a sec

[Q] Blank SD card or has Unsupported File System Error

The AMOLED screen on my Nexus One broke, so, I sent it for repair to a dealer cause there is no official HTC support for Nexus One in India. Before I sent the phone I took a backup of my SD card and also removed it from the phone.
After I got the phone back with the new screen installed, I put in my SD card and it says Blank SD card or unsupported file system. So, I tried different SD card and the same thing popped up with every card I put in. It would ask me to format the card and even if I formatted, it would not mount the SD card. The SD cards work in all other phones and SD card readers.
So, I sent the phone back to the repair guy and he said that its most probably a software bug because if it was a hardware bug then the error message would not pop up at all. He said that it would be best to reflash the ROM but then he tried and the ROM could not be reflashed.
Now the Phone is with me and everything works except for the SD card. Plugging the phone in the computer also doesn't help as the card is not being mounted by the phone at all.
The phone I am using is a Nexus One with stock ROM Android 2.3.4 (never rooted or hacked).
Please help me find a solution to this. I'm even ready to install a custom ROM but can't do so without an SD card.
Please help!!!
Ok well android can't find the SD card but lets see if your bootloader can if not then send it in for repairs again because it's not software. Check my sig there is a link that says passimg try those instructions and tell me what you get.
Hey,
Thank you for the response but most of the instructions require the SD Card. However, in my case as you know the SD Card itself is not functioning. So even if I download the Passimg file, I can't place it on the SD card.
Is there a way to use ADB to wipe the phone completely and then reinstall the original factory stock ROMS?
I did go back to the vendor and asked him to repair the device but after a heated argument he just said that the device's SD card is working but it is not recognizing the cards in it which he said is because of a software bug and for that you need to re-flash the device completely but he didn't have the means to do it, so now I'm left with an unusable phone.
So, in shot can I do the whole reflash thing without the SD card working?
Thank you for responding, you're the only one so far whose come to the rescue. Waiting to hear from you.
Thanks
Hey,
So I just understood the full extent of your recommendation. You wanted me to check if the bootloader detects the Passimg file or not given that booting into Android is not doing that.
As per the instructions on the passimg page I need to download the FRG83 ROM and apply the update. But I'm just wondering if I do this and if the bootloader actually detects the update on the SD card, won't I also need to downgrade the HBOOT version or is it jut safe to apply the downgraded FRG83 over the GRJ22 build that I currently have on the phone?
The details of my phone are as follows:
Nexusone pvt Ship S-ON
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0103
RADIO-5.08.00.04
Oct 12 2010, 14:33:16
Please guide as per your convenience,
Thank you.
I'm not 100% sure but I'd assume that if you do as what you're planning to do.. the HBOOT should also be flashed automatically with the rom. double check incase!
Hi Again,
So, I took the risk and downloaded the FRG83 ROm loaded it into my SD card using a different phone and then put that card into the SD card slot of the Nexus One.
I went into the boot loaded and it automatically detected the PASSIMG.zip file and asked me whether I want to install the Update - I chose YES.
The update installed successfully and I booted into Android. After finishing the Wizard, I checked the Android Version and it says FRG83 but when I look at the notification bar it still shows me the same error "Blank SD card or has Unsupported File System".
So, we can conclude that the SD card and the SD slot work fine.. Any thoughts on what could be done next?
Well that's weird ok well lets see what the computer says. Put the card back in that other phone and connect it to the computer then on the computer go to computer then right click the card (probably E: maybe F: ) then go to properties and check file system make sure it's FAT32.
Not sure if it's wort posting on this thread still, but lots of people come searching for a solution to this problem so I figured I'd post at least another thing to try.
I've had this happen several time on various Android phones. I've been able to bring the card back every time. I throw the card into my micro usb reader, pop it in my computer, and run disk utility (I don't know what equivalent would be for Windows). You should see your SD card come up and see your main data partition there below it. Click on the partition and click repair in the bottom right.
It will run through some stuff and you'll be able to see if it's found anything in need of repair and if it repaired it.
The few times this has happened to me Disk Utility said it was an empty block at beginning of some data or something...
YMMV

When I had this exact problem, I had to replace the SIM/Micro SD flex board to fix it. They were $15 shipped on eBay at the time.

New Nook rotting issues

Hi guys,
This is my first time posting but I have lurked on the forum for a long time so I first want to thank all of you for all the great information that has helped me root my phones, my first nook, customs roms and all. You guys are amazingly smart and makes me wish I played a little less sports in school and studied a little more. So again, thank you for all the sharing of knowledge on this forum.
So to my problem. I have had a Nook for months, was running Cm7 and life was grand. It was on my dresser and my dog knocked it off and split the screen right down the middle. I went 2 days ago and purchased a new one. With the issues of the locked bootloader on the Nook Tablet I decided to stay with the Color that I had already grown to love.
I have been trying to root it but keep running in to problem after problem. I downloaded win32 and half the time when I try to put the CWR image on the SD I get error 8. I have found many ways on here to fix that but it still happens HALF the time. I am running it as admin and running the oldest version. The other half of the time it will look like it is burning to image and says it is done. But after it finishes my computer will not let me open the SD device to put the zip files on it. When I try it says that it must format the SD card to open it. Every time.
Also, just to check if everything is working right, after it says it has finished burning the image on the SD I have put it in the nook to make sure it boots in to CWR, it does not. It boots normal.
My nook is version 1.2.0, I use the correct file for my SD card size, I format it using Panasonic SD Formatter and I cross my fingers, click my heels 3 times and wish upon a star. Nothing is working.
I believe the issue is my computer. I am running 32bit Vista on an older computer. I believe last time I rooted my first nook I used the laptop, but that computer has since exploded in a ball of fire and is no longer available to me.
I'm stressed. I am at the point where I would be willing to pay for somebody to mail me a boot ready SD card.
Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance.
I assume
+ you have 2 NC, one that been knocked off by your dog and one is new, v1.2.
+ you want to run CM7 off the uSD
am I right?
Correct. I have the broke one with a non working screen and the new one which is 1.2.0
I do not want to run Cm7 off the SD but install it to internal memory. I want to flash CM7 on it and for it to never know it used to be a nook.
Have you considered the possibility you have a bad sdcard on your hands? Thats what it sounds like to me, either that or a bad card reader.
Also try redownloading the image file and maybe pointing us to the link your using so we can verify its correct. I actually just mounted the usb once I was in CWM and transferred the zip files I needed over then.
I have considered that. I have used multiple SD cards, I am trying a different new one at this moment as well. It very well could be the card reader, if that is the case then I am in trouble because there is not much I can do about it.
Here is the version of Win32 I was using.
Trying that one now. Thank you.
Edit.
I downloaded the different win32 and it wrote the image right away. I then went to open the card to pull the zip files on it but again when I try to open it I am told that I need to format it before I can use the disk.
This is frustrating.
Once again though I want to say I am very appreciative of all the help.
Edit Edit:
I put the SDcard in to the nook just to see if it would load CWR from the SD and again it did not and simply booted as normal.
Are you running Win32 as Admin?
---------------------------------
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
I am running it as admin. I learned that lesson the first time I rooted. I am pretty sure the issue is my computer. I've updated my drivers but I am nit sure why there is such an issue. The computer is more than 5 years old so there could be a number of issues.
At this point, I would be more than happy to pay somebody to send me an sd card and return it to them. I travel often for work and it is such a geeat tool for my business and I did not realize how hard my every day work would be without it.
Once I write the image file my computer will not let me open the disk to place the zip files. If I could get past that it would be ok, I just can not figure out why it keeps wanting to format the disk before it will let me open it after writing the CWR image file.
Yep the issue is the burning if the image. Make sure you use one of the USB ports on the back of your machine when burning the image. I've found that the ones in the front can cause issues depending on the machine used.
It sounds crazy, but try formatting the card in your Nook first. I think it might solve your problem.
Alright we got everything working now!
So I tried a few different sd cards. I would use the size of image for the size of SD card. 2gb and 8gb. I formatted the 8gb and used only the 1gb image and it worked no problems.
I had followed some instructions that ended up giving me the black screen of death when it would start to boot up. I reformatted and flashed 1.0.1 stock nook, then re-flashed CM7 and all is well now.
Thanks guys!

SD Card issues...

Please forgive me if this has been posted, my searches have not turned up anything helpful...
I am having an issue with my external SD card since root, I can not write to it or format it. I have tried various different apps on my windows and mac machines to try and format it. It keeps saying that its "write protected". Its a 64 gig PNY card that is only about 2 months old. In a fit of rage and frustration I ran down to the local walmart and picked up an 8 gig card, formatted it in the phone, it worked for about 20 minutes and has now done the same thing. I have even tried doing a factory restore on my phone to no avail. I can read the files from the windows computer and copy them OFF the SD card, but it will not allow me to delete any nor format it. In my phone it shows there is no files on the card, yet shows 15 gigs are being used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again sorry if this has been posted before.
Thanks from a long time lurker
Don't tell me root alone broke your sdcard.
Try this guide, and choose one of the steps with the factory reset.

Please dont get me wrong, I dont think root had anything to do with it. I am not sure what it was. After root I noticed my phone being really laggy (which I now know was the whole xposed s-health ordeal), and assumed that may have played a role in my issue. Since a factory restore though everything else has been great, except for the sd card seems to be write protected somehow.

I was waiting for you to say something about xposed, since that seems to be the most common factor in all of the issues after root.
