It's not the best but it's ok to use for a few hours. Try ADW Launcher... now that's a nice piece of work!
LauncherPRO... if only it were more like Home++ - in SOME ways!
Greetings.
I, too, enjoy the SPEED of this app, over and above most else. Over the past 6 months, I have sampled most of the major app launcher programs on the market - both free ans well as paid, and this is hands down the fastest/smoothest around.
Now, if only it had the FEATURES that Home++ has, as THAT program/app ALREADY HAS such great features as a task bar icons that can not only be slid back and forth - horizontally, but you can pick and choose which ones you want to use/show. Furthermore,if you are in the "app library", and decide to remove one, when you hold down the icon - you get a prompt to remove it. A similar option is featured, when you are running an app, and just want to close it/turn it off, you simply hold down the lower left "return" button... and it closes, freeing up system memory. There are MANY more features in this home launcher, too.
I know, you're saying, "Well - if Home++ is 'all that' - why not just use it?" I would - if it wasn't so dang slow - for example, when I select to use the dial pad, it takes nearly 15 to 22 seconds to appear on the screen; really. After all, this IS a PHONE...! What's more, Home++ seems to be FC'ing nearly ALL the time, forcing home launch restarting... on my outta-the-box, non-rooted Motorola DROID... running version 2.1.1 I truly like Home++, but the developer of same hasn't done anything with it for well over a month, nor has he or she been receptive to any emails. So, it looks like our LauncherPRO may be the next Holy Grail of apps - if it can incorporate the features that made Home++ so popular!
I'll be MOST eager to see what is next...!
cant find it in the market
I was getting annoyed with being in an app and pressing home and constantly getting the "sense" previews. So i disabled pressing home-button to bring up previews in the app. If any of u share my issues, heres the fixed launcher.

Wait... a 'fixed' launcher..? There's a setting to change the home button action to navigate to the default home screen instead of opening sense.
Pretty nifty, but I must mention Zeam
I actually spotted it after being left unsatisfied with launcher pro.
It's pretty unique compared to most, very slick and speedy. Give it a shot, it's free

Yea even with tht option, anytime id press home, it would take me to my homescreen but the previews would still popup. A couple of other ppl had the same issues so i just removed the binding of home button to bring up sense previews from his code.
ADW is the bomb
You can choose what you want the home key to do in ADW. I've only donated to a few developers. Anderweb is definitely high on my list.
Also, I couldn't resist
There is no place like home...

Yea i know, i just cant get over that zoom in animation of launcherpro. Sucker for tht

Neat scroll bar at the bottom with access to everything and more space on the screen. Check out the website.
Update: Download now available from the site.
http://hpp.intuitit.mobi/home
So I installed it........now what?
use it as your home replacement its in beta stage so things can only get better
umm i like it. im still not willing to use any home besides the default just because i like the speed, but this one is very nice. seems a little better in some ways than GDE thats for sure. but GDE isnt free... this is! best part cant wait to see how this develops
this is easily the most responsive and intuitive home replacement app i've used. sweeter home preview 1 was a previous favourite, but the lack of widget support has seen it lag behind and as GDE costs money, i've never used it, even though it looks good.
the bar at the bottom is extremely useful and well thought out, as is the integrated task manager. the fact it can display widgets is great and the option to hide the notification bar is another brilliant idea. i would love to see klaxon support alongside alarm clock support, but that's just me being ridiculous.
all in all, i am looking forward to seeing this home replacement app taking off in a big way.
Looks awesome but could someone post the apk its not warez cause its free I just want to pull the clock out of it I'm on blur which is 1.5 this is complied for 1.6 and 2.0 so it does not show up in my market or if your worried about a mod just PM me with a link please and thanks
I like it, it'll be interesting to see how it develops from here and how the animated widgets turn out.
EDIT: I don't know if the dev's ever visit here but I think it would be nice if the items on the power strip were configurable. As an example I never use the google search or favorites icon, so if they could be disabled that would be awesome. Also the ability that the advanced launcher has to hide apps from the app drawer is awesome, if that could be incorporated as well?
I'm still on 1.5 so this isn't available in my market, but I switched for fun to 1.6 last night and caught this application, I like it. Someone finally hid the notification bar which I think is a nice change.
And apparently you can have semi animated widgets with this HR which is pretty cool
It's really very nice. We only need real replacement for root users.
There shoud be possibility to customize bottom icons - I don't use voice search and I'd replace the icon with something else.
searched for it in the market and realised im on android 1.5. gonna have to switch to 1.6. its worth reflashing just for getting rtid of the notification bar
I like it. I don't know if it will be my replacement home screen, but I might try it for a while.
Well i will try and get the apk or link to it for everyone but the app is in beta so we can make suggestions and make it into the must have home app becuase all the others are just missing that something but this looks promising.
this home screen replacement is the fastest, most responsive and has the best functionality out of all home screens, its almost as fast as stock home screen.
I cant wait to see what they will add or improve over the next weeks since its still beta. Its so fast I cannot think of anything that they could do to improve speed.
I just love the little scroll bar on the bottom, I love the way you can close all apps with function button on bottom.
Hi, it looks promising, i like it.
Very promising !
First of all, let me thank you a lot for this innovative home replacement app.
Thanks !
I really like the features of the bottom bar. Scroll it to see even more elements is great and I was really surprised to see that I could click on the battery, the sound indicator, the network icon, etc. Long press on some icons to access to the related settings menu is another good idea.
To hide the notifiation bar makes my home to seem bigger, really nice
Workspace in a loop is comfortable too.
I noticed two bugs (edit) :
- Sometimes (like 50% of the time), when the phone goes of its "standby" mode (menu to unlock...), the hidden notification bar left a black and empty area on top of the screen. All the home content is displaced down (of the height of the notification bar). If you press the physical home button, everything goes in the right place again. I couldn't find a regular cause to this...
- When you press the notification icon in the bar, the panel appears but there's an empty (and transparent) space on top of the screen. It's not that bad but it's graphically stange and it doesn't occur with other panels (tasks, applications,...).
.:EDIT:.
Ok, I don't know how but I managed to add the Pure Calendar widget. It didn't worked the first times... and now it's ok.
If I'm allowed, I'd like to make some suggestions :
- settings to manage the scrolling bar content (applications, statuts,...)
- BetterCut support (please)
- Add a % indicator for the battery status in the bar
- support for the font packs
I'm trying it right now and I like it, however, I have gotten 4 FC/Wait messages so far when closing out of an application (ie. GMail). Other than that, very nice home replacement. This is the first time I've ever used a home replacement too.

I didn't get a chance to play with it last night much, but I have had the same problem this morning. I added the power, audio, music and pandora widgets and it really slowed it down. I have those same widgets running Cy 4.2.5 with no issues.
I really hope they get this right, it looks really nice.
Download app from website
App can now be downloaded from the site if you cant access market. See first post. Ive got it working fine with pure calender ill upload picture when i get home from work.
App in action
Here you go my homescreen and pure calendar running great.
Its ok.
For BETA I guess thats good.
Needs to be faster and more customizability.
Placing the power strip at top or bottom would be nice , ability to change whats in the power strip.
Do love that you can keep scrolling and get back to main screen.
This is a simple Sense UI homescreen look/theme for launcher pro (NOT a port of sense or any widgets)

how to use :
1. set sensedock.png as your launcherpro dock
2. set your leftmost icon to go to the app drawer, then select custom icon and use the clearsquare.png as the icon
3. same as step two, but set the middle three icons to be the phone app. again, set the icon to be the clear square
4.set the rightmost icon to be whatever you want, i used messaging. again, use the clear icon
thats it! just tap one of the three sections and it will take you there
now your homescreen dock will look just about the same as senseUI.

yes i should, and will
@linuxnewb install launcher pro (Free in app market) then go into preferences>apperance settings>dock background> pick custom and select the dock
then hold down each icon on the dock and set it individually
@clown_lov: yes, you just need to go into launcherpro settings and enable it
love it

ok, I have installed via metamorph and have launcher +beta as my launcher...I must be tired, so where do I go to do as your 4 steps tell me to?
ok, yup I am tired...any more questions will wait when I am fully awake - later on today...lol
Works great!!! Thanks - I needed launcher pro, as you said, and at first all I found was the other one...it would be nice to port the HTC SENSE UI in its entirety to the phone. But, until that day happens, this is a great alternative and the UI is still quick, too, on the captivate. Now, could you point me in the general direction of where I could change the sound and image files of this awesome phone? Thank!!

its not likely that an entire sense ui port will ever happen, basically because senseui is for and by HTC phones, which bare a total of almost no hardware similarities with the sgs. (check this out though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737526)
you can look to the android general theme section for some bootscreens and sounds.
Do I have to root my captivate to do this?
All you need is Launcher Pro. Hit up the preferences menu after pressing the menu key on the homescreen and go to Appearance settings to change the dock skin.

the first two ways that come to mind are like a shortcut or something and an app that just opens that menu
personally i dont find that to be a really useful button so i assigned it to messaging
What's the all the ado about Sense?
So in a nutshell, is the appeal of SenseUI:
Customized dock
Useful widgets
Expose-like homescreen management
Am I missing something or does all that seem do-able in LauncherPro + (minus some of the widgets of course)?

Just wanted to let everyone know ADW EX is available for download from the market place. So far looks pretty nice.

How do I get rid of the launcher icon on the top left of the screen? It is messing up my clean desktop.
Works faster than the stock launcher, and the adw drawer is faster too. Good work by the dev. Best launcher for honeycomb so far.
wow, it is alot smoother....IMO this just shows how much they need to improve honeycomb. I'm sticking with the default launcher because I just like it's feel better, but ADW is smoother.
I bought their ADW Ex. but can any guru help me here how to change settings of ADW?
I used it before in Dell Streak 7 where I can click option and then it has System settings as well as ADW Preference, but here I found it no where...
Also, is there a way to remove that button/icon at top left corner?...
Thanks~
It works great except it has some issues with widgets appearing blurry.

Its works nice, fast with cool features. I've had about 10 force closes on me using it today and some issues where most of my icons and Widgets dissapear on me and I have to manually restart adw.
As for the adw settings you have to click the drop down menu on the top right of the screen and select adw settings.
I sent an error report to the Dev team so hopefully they get working on a fix.

BRD - Mind sharing your screen set up with us? BTW...love all your other work too!
I think I'm going back to 1.2.2 I don't like this new version. I don't like the icon at the top and the fact that you loose a half inch form the top and the sides if you have the hidden dock enabled.
BRD...never mind, figured it out finally from another posting. Thanks!
The new adw is great and fast but a couple of things bug me:
I don't like the adw icon sitting in the top left corner, nor the big lock/unlock button in the top right. I wish that button could be situated under the top right menu. It's not a majorly used function (once your home screen is set up anyway).
3.1 makes the xoom way smoother. I'm back to the default launcher now.

Ditto on all accounts. Using a bar at the top to house the icon, lock/unlock, etc is a waste of space. Having a full screen to use was what drew me to ADW with Tiamat -- now I'm back to the smooth running stock launcher
1.3.2 has more bugs than..., well, a place with a lot of bugs. Couldn't resize any Widgets. Kept FCing and forcing stock launcher. The 4D app drawer would label every app the name of the last app on the screen. I can't believe they even released it. But man the icon cache got fixed and screen scrolling was smooth as butter.
agreed, 1.3.2 works great on my phone but buggy on honeycomb. I went back to the previous version.
adwex 1.3.3 is now out with 3.1 support
Been playing around with the free version of Big Launcher a bit before I decide if it s worth making the $5 plunge for the Full Version,.. It just might have some potential on the Rooted Nook..

Looks nice and clean enough for the home screen. However the added functionalities (phone, contacts, sms) might make it a bit too bloated. At the moment I'm quite happy with launcher7 with minimalistic icons and visual effects stripped off.
Can you please post some screenshots or photographs on how it looks on the nook screen?

I'm trying to minimize memory footprint and keep things simple on my NST. I've gone for a "Launcherless" approach, trying to avoid ever seeing the Launcher as much as possible. I don't like to spend a lot of time playing with the device. I try to focus on USING it for reading and productive things. The last thing I want to do is make my nice little Android device look like a poor wannabe imitation of a Microsoft product!
1. Most of the time, I use my reader for ... reading. I use the Mantano Reader to completely replace the B&N Home, Library and Reader apps:
2. When I'm doing something else, I usually only use a handful of apps (4) bound to the B&N QuickMenu using Nook Touch Tools:
3. If I need any other apps, I go to my ADW Launcher EX home screen. Very rarely do I get this far, and anything else is in the app drawer:
I could use ADW Launcher to save a bit more memory, but ADW EX lets me get those big icons. It's a pain to configure since some of the menus don't show (white text on white background), but I've figured it out with a bit of poking around. Once I've done the basic setup, changing things around is simple and quick.
I've previously used FolderOrganizer to get quick menus on the Notification screen, but I didn't like having yet-another launcher running in the background.

As for Launchers, I go back and for between ebooklauncher, and ReLaunch. There are features of both I really like, just wish I was experienced enough to try and combine them, lol

Yes, you should definitely try Mantano - best pdf handling i found so far.
Ah, thanx for the launchet - it looks nice and tidy!
Ok , this may be too simple and silly idea. you may have already done this . but just sharing which might come handy if you haven't figured out how to manage lots of app on the Mihome ..
workaround for the app drawer :
Just put all apps in one folder and place the folder on the dock in the middle , name the folder Apps , and there is a plus symbol where you can pre select apps to add in the folder (you dont have to move every single app to the folder) , just select all the apps and .. Ta -Da ..
Here is the MIhome with app
drawer

I think this may not worth a new thread or i think this should be on the apps and themes section but i am not sure what will be better so just posted in the general section ..
Hehe, I personally did something alike on my MIUI. Similar that is.
The fact that MIUI launcher lacks drawer is an interesting concept for some and a pain for others that are used having a drawer for everything and using home screen just for a few things. I think there was a launcher based on MIUI launcher that offered a drawer, but a little different. Far as I remember the items showed up "listed" instead of grid, but I think that was pretty much it.
I don't think they will ever implement a drawer since its one of their visual trademarks

miui is like ios but with the functionality and customizations of android .. But the incomplete translation is just too much irritating..
Somewhat agree. Not as far as iOS because we can't distinguish an OS by the lack of drawer, but yeah, I always had a feeling MIUI and iOS shared a similar user experience on the home screen level. Perhaps goes a little further like settings (allowing customizing app options on the settings that is). MIUI is unique in a way, but very "this is pretty much it" on the other hand. The themes are a big plus otherwise I wouldn't see anything special. I hope they add some more features or customization options, but I get the feeling they are marching slowly implementing new things.
To be honest, the concept of an app drawer was always something I never quite understood ever since I stated using android.
Pressing that app drawer button is just one step more to access my apps. It just slows me down. Sure, I have my favourite apps, but putting then on the home screen leaves a duplicate in the app drawer. Now I have them twice. Makes no sense.
MIUI just simplifies that and at the same time gives me the ultimate freedom how I want to organise my apps.
The home screen in MIUI is a real "home" screen as I can put my most used apps there. Lesser used apps I put 1 screen right, or left, or in a folder. Heck, folders to categorise apps makes sense in MIUI, making folders on a regular android home screen? Nope. When these apps are not important, why even pull them out of the drawer?
Actually, can anybody give one reasonable argument why having an app drawer is better/easier/faster compared to the MIUI launcher?

When you have 150 apps and dont feel like putting all of them in folders or looking at a sea of apps on your main screen.

I actually feel it's the other way around. When you have less than 50 apps it's easier to navigate thru a single app drawer; but when you have more than 150 it's easier to navigate when apps are separated by folders and you categorize them intuitively.

Which is why we're both using android and have a choice in what we prefer and what works best for each of us.
