I just used the 2.2 ROM but now I'm trying to go back to ZenROM and I'm stuck on the HTC screen on boot. All I'm doing is restoring a nandroid backup. Thanks
Wipe EXT.

are you sure you're stuck? are you watching logcat?
I know some people in that thread were reformatting SD cards, did you do that and not re-partition by any chance?

attach USB when phone is off, get to CMD and type adb logcat
should say waiting for devices
then reboot phone and you'll watch the log of system operations, etc. and you can see if it is stopping somewhere or not or just taking a long time for some reason.
ill do that if this doesn't work.. that seems like a pain in the ass lol
*EDIT* I got off the HTC screen by flashing. You think my phone made a bad backup?
100% booted up now. I'm all good to go. Thanks

i am currently in the middle of a nandroid backup that has been going for about an hour should i pull the battery? i really dont want to corrupt my card because most of my music is on it and i just bought a new computer hard drive because my old one f*cked itself. Any suggestions?
Ive had the same problem. I dont think you need to pull the battery, I just press call (green) menu and end (red). Then delete the nandroid folder on your sd card and reboot into recovery and try backing up again.
i tried what you said, cause i had the same problem just now, and its still taking long. the only difference is the little dots a coming up a little faster. help?
help? anybody? im trying it a third time right now.. hopefully its works
should not take more than 2 minutes I have had this happen once pulled battery deleted nandroid file and started again and it worked.
ive tried everything and its just not working

no they do not.
tried those things and it didnt work
i just found out that the reason the nandroid backup wasnt ending for me was because there wasnt enough space on my sdcard. I feel soo stupid now, thanks guys
how much space did you need?
Hi!
Yesterday my msging app wouldn't open so I rebooted the phone, something I do at least once every 2 days, and it booted into recovery without me touching anything.
This error would also show up:
E:Can't read MISC:
(No space left on device)
I can't do ANYTHING. It ALWAYS goes to recovery mode. reboot bootloader goes into recovery. power + camera button goes into recovery. letting it boot goes into recovery.
--all with the same error in recovery, the can't read misc thing.
Did anyone have this problem? I didn't even flash anything, i was just rebooting the phone like I always do and it just appeared. Any ideas? Is this bricked? I don't want to get a new phone until I know I've tried everything. I've already scoured the net for this error with no results.
Thanks!
What recovery do u have? Do u know your phone info? Running a custom Rom? What have u done to the phone before now?
Not bricked btw if u can get into recovery it's fixable

Hey, thanks for replying!
I'm using RA 1.7 recovery, not sure what phone info you want, its a G1, I'm using CM 6.0 RC1 and have been using for a month now, and before that I've just been using CM, keeping my phone up to date with the stable releases (I don't flash the nightlies)
I'm glad that its not bricked. The problem is that it ONLY boots into recovery, even if I don't press anything...
Thanks!

Ok. I'm looking for spl and radio. Do u have danger spl? Or firerat mtd patch? Sounds like u ran out of internal memory somehow and now won't boot into os is why I ask
Sent from my HTC Magic SparksMod using XDA App
Oh Gotcha - yeah I followed the guide on the CM wiki, so I have danger SPL i believe, and yes, I used firerat's MTD patch
If i remember correctly I used the "all" thing so it went through everything in that patch.
I did that maybe around the time I got CM 6 - so I've been using CM6 and firerat's patch for maybe a month before this happened.
thanks!

Interesting. U don't need danger and mtd patch they do the same thing. I'm confused but maybe u have conflicting internal memory partitioning and that's causing it. Do u have a nandroid backup u can go back to that will boot into the os?

I do but it gives me the same error:
"Can't read MISC: etc etc etc"
This happens when I try to do anything, data wiping, wiping the cache, anything!
I don't even know if it acutally restored the image or not or if the wipe actually happened, because the progress bar is always present for whatever I'm trying to do, its just at the end the error comes up.
In terms of wiping I've tried wiping everything and installing CM6, to no avail. I can't re-reroot the device or downgrade it because recovery always comes up instead of fastboot... I'm stuck!!
Thanks for your insight!
If u plug your phone into the computer and select USB toggle does your sdcard show up on your computer?
Sent from my HTC Magic SparksMod using XDA App
Yep! I can select that MOUNT SD thing and I can transfer files over. Thats what I did to try and flash the rom again, but like always it just gives me that error after its done.
Well i hope you have a spare phone for the time being. I will try to figure something out and keep you informed. Or someone smarter than me will come along and give you the answer. It seems several people have had this prob. but i have not found the solution. Has to be something you can do from a shell in recovery mode to create some space or something to get back into the os. Ill get back with you hopefully with some good news.

It would appear that you can run adb commands while in recovery using a shell. Maybe you can do that and use df to see what has low space. When you find that out you can cd to that directory and type ls and get a list of what is in that directory. Maybe delete a few things to clear some space? Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah I found that thread already... but like me they didn't find a solution either. Plus I do not have a backup misc image so me deleting it would be rather disasterous.
Any other ideas or things I could try?
I'm just about ready to wait for the desire Z or the galaxy S instead of trying to tinker with this old phone...
Decided for fun I would call this a rom, Adeo (A deodexed rom).
This is the full retail system dump, deodexed. Nothing more, nothing less.
What is the point of this?
So you can modify the APK's in a deodexed environment or apply some of my mods
taken down for now
In the mean time I will be working on a better script that executes on the phone rather then thru three bat files so you only have one SU request.
Disclaimer: break your ****? Don't ***** to me about it, you know the risks.
Downloading Now! Thankyou Designgears
Awesome job making it super accessible for everyone! Now we can all have deodexed systems.
Looking forward to the battery mod as well as the shut down options one.

working on a shell script so I can push everything to the phone, and launcher script, accept one SU request, reboots, and done.

Seriously, while you wait for the fn thing to reboot, it seems like it's forever. But trying to type everything in a command prompt, the time speeds up to reboot. FML

I actually work down in WVC, so I am not too far away.
Ok, I want to unroot my phone so I can get it fixed, but the problem is I just seem to can not find a successful way of doing this.
I've tried using different Hero CDMA RUUs from searching around here on XDA and on the Sprint site to keep getting the 140 error [bootloader error]. I even tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657086&highlight=ruu+in+zip+format along with others with a similar method using the HERCIMG.zip and loading it into the bootloader/recovery either flashing it or pushing it through adb. Ive spent countless hours trying to unroot this thing and I'm becoming discouraged, can anyone help me please?
I am rooted with Cyanogenmod 7 w/clockworkmod recovery

My friend recently gave me her old HTC One, and I've been trying to fix it, but I can't quite figure it out.
She said it started bootlooping randomly after she plugged it in to charge. When I first received it I plugged it in and mashed the power button until it turned on. Booted up just fine. But now it's in a stupid bootloop that takes me to a blank desktop with no dock or wallpaper, and then reboots after a few minutes.
Can a battery issue cause this? A complete factory reset from recovery is not an option because I'm trying to save her photos. I don't know how I can get 11gb worth of them off when it's not booting properly.. Any ideas for fixing this or getting the photos off?
Have you tried to wipe data factory reset from recovery ?
That doesn't erase photos
Oh really? I thought it did. This is a stock recovery btw. No root or anything. And it's on 4.1.
