Did you place it back into the update.zip file, resign and flash that or did you push framework-res.apk to /system/framework directory?
Also... your edits in framework-res.apk, did they consist of changes to any 9.png files? Editing those files (the 9.png) can cause problems. The best way to edit those files are from source and then either export the edited files using Eclipse or make the apk file using Ubuntu from the source.

How would I strip just the battery icon(s) used in a particular theme? I haven't been successful with my research on how to do so. Thanks in adavnce.
Just extract framework-res.apk in framework folder.
Then look in /res/drawable

I just tried to do this and replaced the battery icons in the ROM.zip file I had, then tried to use a autosign.bat to resign the ROM.zip file, tried to reflash, and ended up hanging my phone at the boot screen + having to do a nandroid restore.
Would you happen to know the correct process for replacing JUST the battery icons on the phone itself using the framework-res.apk?
something like adb push /system/framework-res.apk?

I would make a metamorph, there simple to do and will get what you want done
I ended up just changing the apk to zip, replacing the .png files, changing the extension back to apk, and just using adb to copy the framework-res.apk back to the phone.
If you want i make it for you send me framework-res.apk and battery icons.
Where would you find the keyboards so I can get a different one. The one I have is very hard on my eyes...
Wasssup fellas! Ok so I'm no themer but I've started to delve into your world a little bit. I'm looking to draw on the experience of any of you that have successfully modified the Rosie. So here's my set up
I've got Apktool set up in Ubuntu before you ask I downloaded 1.3.1 not 1.3.2
I have all the dependencies in place
I've installed the framework (apktool if com.htc.resources.apk)
Rosie.apk decompiles with no errors (apktool d Rosie.apk out)
I've modified /res/values/colors.xml to add transparency to the app drawer? (This may be my issue)
Compiled (cd out/ .......apktool b) compiles with no errors
I've tried this signing Rosie.apk, Not signing it, Copying out the "Res" and "Resource" file and going into the original Rosie.apk with Ark Manager without extracting the archive and dropped in the "Res and "Resource" files.
Same result each time when I push the file via ADB or put it in a flashable zip the phone boots goes through the animation capacitive keys light up then the phone gets stuck on the last frame of the boot animation and just hangs there forever no boot loops just hangs there?
Any help would be more than appreciated, thanks guys!
Lou
(Bumping this)
After you've pushed the .apk - Type "adb logcat" and post it here.
I have been struggling with her too but I think I cracked her Just compile it again then use WinRAR (or whatever you're using) and take classes.dex from the newly compiled Rosie.apk and put the new classes.dex in the old Rosie.apk and then you should be fine. Ofc if you had modified some PNGs you would just take the res folder too
BTW could you tell me what to edit to get the transparent app drawer?
Bump. Did you ever get this working. I have been missing with Rosie.apk for about a week now. I am able to decompile, recompile and push without any errors. But non of my changes seem to take place.

I read somewhere that you also have to apply some changes to fusion.apk
If I can find the guide for this, I'll link it.
Searched and couldn't find just this...a black notification pull down. I think I am one of the few that likes the stock look just want a black/ transparent pulldown and don't want a whole new theme to get it. I am running dl30 BTW. I KNOW THAERE ALOT OF REQUEST BUT HOPEFULLY MINE IS EASY TO FULL FILL WITH A COUPLE OF OPTIONS TO ADD AS A ZIP FOR THOSE THAT LIKE A SEMI-STOCK LOOK. HOPE TO SEE A COUPLE SOON.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
A little FYI...I really like the midnight pulldown and buttons....many others are nice as well..
This can be done by modifying the png images in the framework i believe. If you use 7zip to extract it and then edit with photoshop or gimp and save the png and put back into the framework file.
If i am wrong somebody can correct me though.
bump....seems easy but I am an idiot with this phone?!?
I want it also
I pulled out the files and changed everything and put it back into the apk file. When I put it back on my phone I didnt get any changes. I thought I read that if your only changeing pics, this is all that was needed.
I posted asking if there was something I was missing but no answer.
I have the changes if I could get the phone to take them.
Yeah i tried ti compile it too just now....fail.

Attach your framework-res.apk & twframework-res.apk and let me look at it. It will be hard to give an accurate explanation without first doing this.
EDIT: Or do what nitsuj said below and it should work. Your probably having problems with .9 pngs

to do what you are trying to do.......grab the twframework-res.apk from your phone by pulling it with adb...or simple version just grab it out the rom you are currently using by moving the og rom file to your desktop and use 7zip to extract it.
now use 7zip again to extract the drawable-hdpi folder from the apk.
swap out status_bar_background.9 for a transparent one you grabbed from another theme...or you can make one by yourself...but its a .9 image so you ll have to patch it in 9 patch.
if you want to avoid that heres a transparent one for you http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15331201/rom/transparentbackground.zip (just extract it and swap it)
open up the twframework with 7zip again and copy this drawabl-hdpi folder over the old one....then you can push this framework back to your phone...or just take one of our theme update.zips and open it up with 7zip...go into the system folder, delete the app and font folders...go into the framework folder and delete whats theres and place the twframework-res.apk in it....put the zip file on ur sdcard...boot to recovery and flash it
Thanks
Thanks for the tips guys. I will work on this today and have something later.
as soon as I get back to my comp I am going to try and fix it...
Running stock DL30 rooted. No changes.
I pulled my stock framework-res.apk and made some changes to pic files only. I got everything back into the apk file and put it back into the System/framework folder. I guess I am missing something because none of the changes are showing. I changed the notification drop down to clear black. I pulled out what I liked from one file and put it in mine. It did ask to replace everything I did and I said yes. Do I need to maybe put it in a zip and install it from CW or install some other way?
I was hopeing I could pick up some of these little changes people are wanting so the big boys can focus on what is important.
Thanks
Mike
Hi guys,
im currently using netdrg`s sense theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048792
Now i changed all the green elements of the framework-res.apk to blue. Ive done everything so far, but i have no clue how to edit the color of the progress bar. (the bar when u change the volume, download something and so on...)
Ive heard that u have to edit an xml file, but as i have no clue about editing these files, i want to ask for a little favour.
Ive attached the xml file, and the color which i will use is 1761ab (hex).
So ill thank the guy who will do this for me a thousand times and i can share the theme with you afterwards!
lg l
In order to edit this xml file you need to decompile framework-res.apk. You can use apk_manager. Once the framework has been decompiled you can easily change the hex color for the progress bar (remember that the first 2 digit are for alpha channel). After that you need to recompile the framework. Actually there is another way to do that, but it‘s a bit triky as you need to modify the xmls file by using an hex editor..
If you want i can modify and compile the xml attached for you! Let me know m8
hey, thanks for your answer.
I put the framework-res.apk in the "place here for modding" folder, opened the script and hit 9 to decompile.
Then i edited all the values in the xml file in the "projects" folder and saved it.
Now i compile it, delete the file i edited in the "keep" folder and that other file mentioned.
Now i tried to apply the compiled framework_res.apk back to the system which results in a bootloop, what am i doin wrong?

Ok, you are getting close to the solution
Once you got the unsignedframework.zip inside the place-apk-here-for-modding folder, you have to do a little trick in order to get it working...
Unzip all the content of the "unsignedframework-res.apk". You should have 5 objects (3 folders, 2 files).
Zip these files with Winrar/Winzip (whatever) but you must choose "No compression (store)" method to zip it.
Rename this zip into "framework-res.apk".
Put it into an update.zip and it should be OK to flash trough the recovery mode.
keep me updated
