1. Type in terminal
Code:
busybox df -h
and look in your /system/sd, if any of it used - then you're doing it right.
2. Tethering, apps2sd, Ram swap, overclocking, different roms, etc,
3. Search before asking, google is your friend, post in the right forum (which you did). You can figure out everything else else.
Good luck.

Allow it (and check the mark to always to it, you'll get sick of allowing it every time).
See if works
Code:
su
busybox df-h
This is weird though....this does not modify anything else... just gives you the output of your partitions.... works for me without su prompt.

Which rom did you flash once you rooted your phone? This will determine if you have busybox utility (which is helpfull)
OK.... here's another one
Code:
ls /system/sd/app
ls /data/app
That will give you a list of apps installed in each partition (/data/app is internal, /system/sd/app is external)
Doesn't quite give you the size or free space in each but gives you at least some idea of where your apps are going.
Good luck.

i flashed the generic rom from unlockr
So it may not have that utility... sorry I'm not about to look through that whole website just to find out. And it's not a big deal for most people anyway. I'm sure you will not be on that rom too long anyway .

I thought since the cm5b4 thread is getting hard to navigate through that i would pull some helpful info out of it and make it in a seperate thread
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THE INFO BELOW, jerbarton should get credit for the procedure
As usual I'm not responsible for any problems you may encounter or broken phone, i also cant confirm if this works on any other rom's but cyans and there is no gurantee it will always work but here you go
EDIT:When updating to a new CM rom you WILL encounter a boot loop, simply run the steps below AGAIN during the loop cycle and then reboot the phone and it should work.
ALWAYS NANDROID!!
you will need to have an ext2 partition before this will work, i believe you can make one with the "partition" option in recovery
Code:
adb remount
adb push 04apps2sd /system/etc/init.d/
adb push e2fsck /system/xbin
adb shell
chmod 755 /system/xbin/e2fsck
chmod 755 /system/etc/init.d/04apps2sd

Attempted this, and I've never once tried doing apps2sd. I dl'ed the files to the root of my SD card after partitioning the SD card to ext2. After this was done, I went to my terminal emulator, but all I get from the commands are "adb: not found"
What am I doing wrong?

You have to get the android sdk kit on your computer and type in those commands from tools. Make sure those files are placed in your tools folder so it can find them(adb). Also need to hold down shift and right key to open up command in folder.

Yeah cyanogen (especially) and dhanj should be credited more than me. I didn't really do anything but add on how I got it working for me.
One thing to mention, if cyanogen doesn't implement this officially in his ROM (and for most people it's probably not needed) you'll have to redo this procedure each time you flash/update so I'd suggest keeping the 2 files saved.
@nonmindo...thanks for posting this, I've been meaning to put something together but had a handful of things going on.
In any case, I was also hesitant on starting a new thread about this because of the apps2sd, need or not to need discussion that's been going on. Anyway, I'm glad you did post this and glad that there are others asides from myself(kamasi, jerbarton, t0pgun & dscottjr81 that I know of!) who chose to get this up and running on their nexus one.
As for who get's credit, I certainly cannot take any credit for this because all I did was share information. The real credit goes to cyanogen and the great devs we have here on xda that made our toys even more enjoyable that it was stock.
Edit:
Regarding the second(ext) partition that's created when you partition your sd card using RA-nexus-v1.5.3 recovery, there isn't a menu option to upgrade your partition to ext3, unlike other versions of Amon_Ra's custom recovery for the HTC Dream: G1.
Regardless, of this you can always go back into the recovery, hook up your phone to your pc, open up command prompt and type in the following commands:
Code:
adb shell
sdparted -ufs ext3

I apologize for not looking deeper into who deserves credit here, thanks for those of you that do know!! I was simply just trying to make it easier to get the information to people that might want it...
as for the debate of needing a2sd or not, i was out of space right from the get-go because of all the apps i had on my mt3g...so to me i definitely need it out of the 1gb partition i made on my sd card i have .82 free now lol...

ext3 is essentially a ext2 file system with journaling.
Click Here to read about ext3 and it's benefits over an ext2 fs. As to why ext2 over ext3 for apps2sd, since journaling improves reliability of the fs, that makes it more ideal than ext2.
it works great thanks!

something weird happened on my phone when I installed the SuperD 1.9.3 rom. I've never had this problem before, so see if you can help me. I installed Chompsms and Acontacts amongst a variety of other apps. Well, I was texting earlier, when my phone froze. No biggy, I popped the battery out, placed it back in, and turned it on. Well I got the green boxes in place of the the logos for Chomp and Acontacts. I clicked on them and it said that the apps weren't installed? um, ok. I have aps2sd with ext3, so I figure something must have corrupted the file, no biggy, I'll just redownload it. So I go to the market, and it says the program is installed. I click on the program to try to reinstall, and the bottom where it says "open, uninstall" are greyed out. So the app isn't installed, but it is, so I can't uninstall and re-install. Anyone, help please? I really use these 2 apps!
Delete the apk's from /system/sd/
It also sounds like your marketdb file is still there too. I've had this problem with Backup for root users. It'll import the marketdb but sometimes it won't import the APK's. So that leaves you with no apps and the market seeing that you already have it. I'm trying to find where the program is pulling that file, and i'll let you know. If anyone else knows where it's at feel free to jump in.

While Im still looking for that file, you could also do the following:
Code:
Use switchrom and save your rom
flash a new rom
download the apks that are giving you problems (if its not too many)
use linda to save the apks to your SD card
switchrom back to the old rom
download and use linda to install the apks you saved.
It's not pretty but it'll get the job done.
Had a little time to look at the phone, did you try to delete the folder in /data/data/com.android.vending/?
Goto terminal emulator.
Type - mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system (enter)
Type - rm /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/* (enter)
Type - reboot (enter)
Words in bracket are instructions and not to be typed.

Hello everyone.
First off all i hope this post is in the right section.
Let me get this out off the way first:
Im not good at english, and im not good at cmd files and so on.
But! i can succecsfully root my phone and get the # in cmd.
The reason im rooting is becouse i want the market patch so i can see all apps.
Here is my questions:
1. Whenever i try to adb push vending......
It says "the file is read-only" i cheked its not read only
So how do i fix that?
2. In the guide to root the phone he says:
"You can do anything then! Look at /system, /data, etc etc. You're broken free, my friend"
Where can i see the /system and so on? he says look at, but where can i look at it? how can i like acces the folders?.
So on the easy way, i search a way to install the market patch.
Thank you everyone
Bump, i really hope someone will help
Anyone? please?
When you have root, you need to mount r/w partition:
- adb push tattoo-hack.ko ./data/local/bin/tattoo-hack.ko (if you haven't did it before)
- adb shell
$
- su
#
- # insmod /data/local/bin/tattoo-hack.ko
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock5 /data
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
And now you have mounted in r/w, so:
- adb push Vending-Tattoo-patched.apk /system/app/Vending.apk
p.s. ah...you can access system folders with Root Explore (it needs root)
I never had to mount anything. I did the latest root hack in the sticky at top of forum and then i installed the full market apk. Worked a treat.

You don't have to close the first cmd.
Try. If it doesn't work, probably there are some problems with the root procedure, in that case try that solution: Root in 1 click. It contains: root, boot.img, market (also recovery if you choose it).
Yea, i have tryed root in 1 click, but does it really include market?
Root in 1 click gives me the same error ?
Okay maybe this is alot to ask for but is there anyone out there that can make a video of it all from rooting to push market. i would be so thankfull.

- adb shell

- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock5 /data
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

(one time)

I have busybox 1.6 on my captivate i see on www.busybox.net 1.17.3 is out. I have downloaded it from the site and its a tar file with a folder with a whole bunch of folders and files. How do you install this?
Are you familiar with the phrase, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it?"
I advise you to heed its warning.
But if you must proceed, a quick google search for "how to install busybox manually" brings up this very good result: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/82573-busybox-manual-install-how-guide.html
Edit: By the way, love the avatar. Great album.
Yes i understand if its not broke don't try to fix it but i'm a OCD updater! Would there be any advantages of updating it? P.S. I saw Megadeth and Slayer a month ago they rocked!
Only advantages I can see are having a couple more bug fixes and maybe 4-5 new commands built in.
Download Busybox-1.17.2 HERE
Extract busybox to your SD Card
Make sure you are in PC Mode and Debugging is enabled in Applications options
adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/busybox /system/xbin/
cd system/xbin
busybox --install /system/xbin/
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
sync
reboot
You can also use Root Explorer or whatever file browser you may use to copy busybox to your system/xbin folder. Some people use system/bin but I prefer xbin...just a habbit.

I think you're seriously confused. The Captivate isn't a NAND locked phone. Generally when you root, busybox is installed. (I think. At least it always was for me.) You could also try installing Titanium Backup and have that install busybox for you.
I'm rooted and am trying to mount the system to remove bloatware apps... However everytime Titanium Backup removes it and I reboot it's still there...
Anyone have any ideas?
System is protected: you can't modify it while the phone is booted. You'll have to make a zip or whatever to delete it in recovery.
You have to be kidding me...
I've spent all day long trying to root this bastard phone and that didn't work then I managed it and now I can't disable, remove any apps ?
So much for HTC being dev friendly

The recovery flashed but wouldnt boot , managed to get round it when i discovered POB with his superboot Thank god for the desire C
Then i realised that i couldnt flash anything because I manged to install 6.0.2.8 as a boot img, and 6.0.3.0 as a proper recovery.
Then i didnt have any files on the device to flash boohoo so i managed to get ADB sideload working through the AIO One Toolkit... And managed to flash AHRD finally getting a working device,
As you see Im a seasoned vet at these things but the HTC One has been the first device that has stumped me....
----------------------
The apps issue is not unkwown for HTC however they havent done this for a while.... Back with the G2 they did exactly the same thing and yes ive frozen them but there should be away to remove system apps for us through root.... But i cant remember how, Throwing it into ADB Shell and requesting SU along with a Remount works fine but still would like to remove the apps.
Im also looking for someone with a locked phone... (Sim Locked) i have a theory and it worked on the Desire C Anyone wanna help?

Delete the apps with titanium and power off the phone. Don't do a restart.
Already tried that ^_^
You need to flash a custom kernel with a modified ramdisk to disable system protection Without doing that you're like deleting an app on windows with deepfreeze on it
Is that the only solution?
There are so many bloated useless and intrusive (cr)apps on this phone it's unbelievable.
Other solution is boot in recovery and delete it there. Either thru adb while in recovery mode, flashable zip or through file manager(if you're using TWRP). Other than that nope
Hmmm I'm thinking adb through recovery here but how do I got about doing this?

the joys of a s-on devices
read up on adb commands...
or use the zip I attached and edit line 18 in this format with the apps you want to get rid of, use a file explorer to get the proper names.
make a backup first in case you mess up something
Code:
delete("/system/app/xxxxx.apk", "/system/app/xxxx.odex", "/data/app/xxxxx.apk");
The best way to remove apps in recovery is through adb:
Code:
adb shell
sysrw
rm /system/app/abc.apk
the simple way is ROM CLEANER, but isn't available yet for the One.
cheers

I dont have a One, and dont plan on having one (ever, thanks to this thread! I think I'll stick to Sony, they have instructions to unlocking bootloader on their official website)
BUT, if the system is locked, it should be locked trough ADB too, so I guess what I'd try is install busybox, custom recovery, go into recovery, connected it to the PC (or a mac, but since we're on no-apple forum, I'll assume PC), mounting system there and doing your thing.
You can install busybox and custom recovery right?
Edit: never mind, I should really learn to read. Sometimes I think I'm dyslexic a little, just for words, not letters.
I did not see the 'recovery' part mentioned.
Anywho, mounting system is what you forgot, so at least I said something helpful
