So, why phone is currently with HTC. My PC was not recognizing the phone now was I able to charge via the wall charger. The phone itself worked fine. Recently I had flashed Froyo and Cyan's Kernel. I rebooted, wiped and reflashed the Froyo update, still no luck on USB recognizing. I attempted to restore a NAND backup, but for some reason I was receiving a error message. Then, the battery died. With no way to charge it, I returned it to HTC stating it wouldn't charge. Today I received an email stating it would be $196 for them to fix.
Does anyone think if I bought a desktop charger and charged to boot up I can fix this problem by using one of the many Nandroid Backups I have? I will not pay HTC to fix it as I have insurance. I've replied to them asking what the problem is, and will attempt to fight the charge.
Spoke with HTC Today. They will be sending it back. I'll give the desktop charger a shot. The rep dis tell me that it does boot, which means the phone isn't bricked, but the the USB connection is shot. Could they be lying? I'm willing o give it a shot, although the USB-MS option didn't work in recorery. Could it be the Kernel? It'll be a bit before the desktop charger shows up, but I'll keep everyone posted. I kinda feel like I should have pushed harder as if the problem is the usb connection, what would the phone being unlocked have to do with fixing it?

After owning my Hero for my 14 months, my Hero suddenly stopped recognizing when it was plugged into my computer through USB. The phone charged but did not give the option of mounting the phone.
I have tried connecting with recovery (both clockwork & Amon- Ra), through stock rom, Cm6 and Cm7. I wiped, flashed, removed the battery, removed the SD card, tried multiple computers and multiple USB cables.
One other symptom I noticed is that the battery started burning down very quickly. I eliminated any app that was causing this by wiping and flashing to stock with no apps, but the battery kept burning down.
I finally gave up and brought the phone back to a Sprint store and got an insurance replacement.
Now I have had my replacement phone for all of 10 days, and the same thing just happened to me again?
Is this a hardware problem and I have such bad luck that it happened to me again? Or is this something I might have messed up and could fix?
You could try a new sd card.
Yea its me again with the
Modified Hero
Is it doing this with all computers you connect into? and have you used the same USB cord each time?
Mine did the same thing after about 10 months. Mine also lost hboot or any ability to get to recovery. It did still charge though. Sprint swapped it out under the insurance plan

I have used multiple computers and multiple USB cables. The Sprint store tested it too and saw the same results.
I just got a new phone under the insurance from Sprint and I want to figure out what could be causing this so it doesn't hurt the new phone.
This might be a little late.
Iw as having the same problem with my Optimus V. When I plugged it into the computer it wasn't reading that it was in a computer, only that it was charging, my computer wasn't event picking up the phones usb connection either. I restored my phone, reinstalled all the LG drivers..still nothing. So I went into my device manager on my computer. Next to one usb port there was a little yellow exclamation point. it said that windows had stopped using that device because there was a problem. So i right clicked, hit disable, right clicked again, hit enable and it worked! Hope this helped.

I have the same problem. It was preceded by my phone going into Car Mode for no reason and also thinking I was USB connected when I was connected to a charger.
I have sent the phone to HTC who want me to pay for a new motherboard as the bootloader is unlocked. They sent me a picture of the phone showing the bootloader was unlocked but for some reason they sent me a photo of someone elses phone (mine is black and the photo is of a silver one). I now have an escalated ticket to sort this out - has been open since Monday. I am losing patience with HTC.........
Same here... I don't have HTC Warranty, what can i do?

Mine was having the same trouble. Car mode, not charging and usb host mode warning. I made some alterations suggested in another thread as: Turn off fast boot, and choose no screen lock and reboot. The phone charged at night, but it was turned off. I'll get home and see what's up. The worst thing for me is that I'm in Brazil and we get no support here. I'll have to send it to the US, to a friend so he can send to htc. Didn't get to see if it connects to the pc. I'll be pissed if it doesn't.
Oh, mine is completely stock. Didn't unlock bootloarder or S-OFF
Phone is working just fine now. Recharging when on, no more car app going crazy. I only turned off fast boot and lock screen, rebooted and problems solved.

I already fixed this charging issue...it has nothing to do with HW.
Just replaced this parts shown in the attached image below
I don't know what is happend but the phone is charging now.I buy an LG G2 and let the phone off one week and after that when I plugged in charger everything is normal. The problem now is with the microphone now because when I call somebody he can't hear me,but I can hear the other person. If I activate the speaker everything is good and I can use my phone for calls. Now the phone is in service and I will reply with results when I will get it back.
I have the same problem, there are many topics about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332046&highlight=charge&page=3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417377&highlight=charge&page=3
And I have read many theories about the causes of this problem:
1) damaged usb port
2) virtual sd-card corrupted
3) damaged proximity sensor
But apparently the only solution is send it to warranty...
I am kinda having the same problem...
I can charge when its on but it has to be with certain chargers...
like a usb wall charger but not certain standard ones
charges in the car no problem and when off..
But this only recently happened when I flashed a new Rom...
I restored back to another rom and it charges no problem...
So now I think it has something to do with the freq of how the phone is clocked at...
Im testing right now to see if I clock it to something different over or under it might fix the problem...
Will post results
Solved

Yeah i just solved. Thanks god.
I had the same problem after totally discharge the phone and try to charge it with a generic charger.
The device didnt charge when ON and didnt connect to USB neither.
It starts putting itself in car mode and USB host mode.
I was going to try a defferent kernel when i re-unlocked the phone and rooted it (i install TWRP2 v2.6.3.3)
in my way to install the kernell (and change the ROM) i did a factory wipe with the TWRP2 tool and then
i noticed that the phone starts charging again.
It is like kew again.
I hope this help a bunch of people out there, i made a hugh investigation and no one have any idea, they
keep telling you that is a hardware problem. If the phone dont charge it all than is a hardware problem if
it charges when is OFF or in Fasboot mode than is a software problem.
Sorry for my english. Spread the word.

Mine stopped charging, battery is now empty and it's completely unresponsive. It doesn't charge, LED doesn't blink, I can't boot it(not even in bootloader). What can I do? It's still under warranty, but the bootloader is unlocked and I have installed a custom ROM. Do you think they will notice that because it doesn't boot at all and they don't open the phones in Croatia(where I live) as far as I know because they don't have the right equipment so they just exchange them. Should I just try sending it?
My friend have same problem His phone will charge when its turned off. But wont charge when its turned on. and wont charge either until the battery is 0%. any help guys

he tried that. But that option is not working
Twice now since updating to official .199 UK unbranded i've been hit by a bug where my phone won't recognise charger unless its turned off. It's fine for a couple of days then gets very random about whether it will charge when turned on. Usually this followed by the next day it won't charge at all. This time i've noticed my laptop won't recognise Xperia T internal storage either and ADB/USB debugging don't work either.
I've hard rebooted, booted in safe mode and factory reset from within the phone and it makes no difference. Sony no doubt would tell me charger or port is broken and use returns process but when turned off phone will always charge... It also has no problems with the laptop flashing it or fastboot mode from turned off so this is no hardware fault with my lead, ports or charger. I've reflashed kernel on its own with flashtool, also fully without wiping and fully with wiping NO DIFFERENCE.
So the only thing that will fix this is SUS repair function, every couple of days? Very stupid bug worse than the 100% charge with .295. You can no longer rely on the Xperia as a main phone in my opinion unless your prepared to carry a laptop and internet connection with you everywhere. What a disappointment.
Further to this I have just repaired and even that hasn't done anything. Just used flashtool to revert back to ICS software and my charger is immediately recognised on first boot. I will now update using SUS again to .199 and I bet it will still work for a couple of days and then start to trip out again. Where the hell can this bug be lingering though if it can avoid factory resets and full SUS software repair?? What can downgrading reset that nothing else can... Very confused and disgruntled now. I suspect you could also revert to 4.1 with same effect but I just had ICS firmware handy so used that. I will test 4.1 next time
ICS only works. It gave me a update to 9.1.A.1.141 over the air so I did it and it broke my port again. I flashed 9.1.A.1.141 manually and its still broke - that was the software I was using before 4.3 and it worked fine. Is it seriously possible that these 4.3 updates have done something so bad to my phone that only the software it originally came with will work properly because thats how it appears to me now. I can't charge while turned on or have my laptop recognise the Xperia T internal storage unless using 7.0.A.1.303. Phone about to get thrown against a wall I think.
Maybe your battery power control is ruined.
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688272
Thanks for suggestion but i'm not so sure. I mean it charges fine turned off, it charges fine on 7.1.A.303. And another symptom is not being able to connect my PC to phone. Surely if it was just battery/power control it wouldn't charge from PC but would still connect and allow me to transfer files. I also don't have any of the random reboots the OP had. I'm so worried to send this in for repair. Last time they did a software update and sent it back with original problem. Then they fixed 2nd attempt but caused some cosmetic damage and it didn't last long. Then my operator replaced it as I said I lost trust in the repair centre. I only got this one Nov last year and already it's having problems... I'm either unluckyist T owner going or they have some serious issues.

Very unlucky... my T is one year old, I installed every kind of rom/upgrade/downgrade and still works flawlessly.
Could they have replaced your old phone with a regenerated unit?
Your USB port is ok, that's for sure.
Like any other electronic component, a fried power control could behave in many different ways.
Yours could have problem when it has to work with a firmware that manage the power in a certain way.
Even when you connect to your PC, the power control of the battery is called to manage the power coming from the computer: in fact the phone usually charges during any operation with the PC.
And this explains why the phone charges fine when turned off.
Now the question is: which is the power control ruined? The one of the battery or are there other power controls?
Let's make it clear: this is just my hypothesis
If you don't trust in reparing service, why don't you try to repair by yourself?
You need a screwdriver (for only one screw) and a guitar plectrum to open up the back cover.
That's all, it's very easy... on internet there are some video guides... but remember that this way you loose your warranty!
Hello,
I am getting a big problem with my HTC one here, it won't charge. It's been a problem I had for like two weeks, when I messed up the installation of a kernel. I don't know if it's related or if it's just a coincidence, but it has never happened before.
So here is what happened. I make a backup of my rom ( pranoid 4.6 BETA-2) and then install the kernel. I install it and it fails ( can't boot ) because I messed up the choice of the kernel. So I restore my backup and then boot.
Later that day I put my phone to charge, one my computer, and notice that it doesn't really charge. Like I plug the USB cable in, it charges for a few seconds, like maybe 5 but can be up to 30, it's random) and then just stop charging. And if I plug the USB cable out of my phone and put it again, it will charge again, but if I plug in and out of my comp it won't.
I tried charging it with wall adapter, same deal. But the major thing that make me almost sure that it's not hardware, if I plug it on my comp, even when the phone stops to charge, it will continue to detect and be able to access USB storage.
I wiped and flash everything I could and it stopped, just like that and started working normally again. Happened an other time, during the whole afternoon, and then worked again.
But happened to me yesterday and still haven't been able to charge it.
So I came here for help, hope some of you can help me fix this.
Thanks
if you think that this is not the hardware problem, you can try to flash RUU.
Find RUU for your CID and flash it via fastboot.
I assume, that your PC sees your phone in fastboot, right?
If you will have any questions, PM to me, coz I'm not all the time at Q&A here
Sprint HTC one M7 running Bad Boyz 4.4.2 Sense 6 ROM.
Tonight, I plugged in my phone to charge it and the charging LED did not turn on nor did the battery icon indicate it was charging.
After trying a few USB cables and different chargers I found the the phone will only charge when either turned off or in recovery mode (I use TWRP).
I tried a full wipe and Nandroid restore back to 12/23 but no joy. I did not want to try a factory reset since the phone has been flashed to Pageplus cellular and I wasn't sure if I could bork the flash..
The phone is also not recognized by my PC when I plug it in.
Overnight it did charge to 100% while turned off even though it kept telling me that it would charge faster if I used the original HTC charger (Which I was, and which I have been using for the last year)
The phone is now fully charged and functional. I will see how the battery holds the charge, but I can't help but feel that this condition may get worse.
Any thoughts?

Yup, HTC usb port sucks on this phone, I'm on my second one in a year that is taking a crap. Doing same thing you described again. Sucks cuz first time it happened sprint told me my usb port on phone is broken, and that i should have only used the stock cord that came with it, i told them i did. Look at device, charger/usb cord only goes in half way....... WTF HTC?
