Use Calendar without Data Plan - Touch CDMA Android Development

I'm too cheap to buy a data plan, and I know I'm a minority here, but I was wondering if anybody else in my boat has found a way to use the calendar?
It won't let me into the program without a google account and I can't find an alternative calendar anywhere. The closest I found was AnCal and it gives me an unexpectedly quit error or whatever.

Bumping this thread. I'd like to know also.

Are you after a calendar widget, or a fully functional one that you can add events, etc to?

A fully functional one that doesn't make you login to your gmail account would be awesome. Trying to persuade my wife that android is the better mobile OS (over WinMo), but having a hard time since she has to give up her camera and calendar (without a data plan).

I hear multiful calendar can do that, but like you I don't have a data plan, maybe someone can download (its free) it from the market and post the apk here.
And why give up the camera, elcair?

I found that one too, but I have not been able to find an APK for it.
If somebody could do that, that would be amazing.

I don't think a separate calendar is what we want.
what we need is an "import/export to sdcard" feature added to the main calendar. (similar to what we got with the eclair contacts)
preferably with csv.

Could anybody grab the APK for multiful calendar?
EDIT:
found it, its attached.
I'd still like to be able to use the android one, but this will do.

Vilord's Tattoo has a calender that doesn't require data so if you could find someone to pull the apk and get it to work you wouldn't need an extra calender app after you pull out to original one.

I can go into androidinstall.tar/data/app_s and I see calendar.apk and calendar.odex.
Would I just install calendar.apk and be done with it?

I would also appreciate it if someone could procure this.
My thanks.

bump.
Can anybody rip out the calendar from Vilord's tattoo?

I might even go as far as to pay anyone to get this apk too.

the calendar apk from tattoo is for rosie. So its for sense only. You need to google "pure grid calendar widget.apk"

yep, that seems to do it.
I still can't launch the actual app, but I can see the calendar, add items etc.
Thanks incubus

scottter so you can add new items from the pure grid calendar widget?

dangit.
I thought I could, I get the dialog box, but when I actually try to hit OK, I get a force close message...
So in actuality, no.

I found another calendar, Jorte, that doesn't need data.

HTC Sense Hero Exchange Sync

Has or can anyone extract the exchange sync (contacts, mail, calendar) that is available on hero or sense?
Maybe in apk format so that we could load it on a 1.6, or 2.x (non hero or sense) ROM?
Thanks for any help, I did a search, but didn't find this request specifically, I apologize in advance if this has already been asked and answered.

The one from the hero rom is restricted to the htc sense ui.
I was hoping it could be extracted the way cyanogen has the HTC keyboard available separately (HTC_IME.apk).
The Sense UI widgets utilize a different framework.....so you will most likely never see these on a "standard" android device....although HTC is currently porting widgets and adding them to the Android Market....so keep your eyes open.
PS....wrong section.
But is exchange sync really a widget? It's intgrated into the data sync preferences. . Kind of like how the keyboard is integrated into the text & local settings.

The exchange is part of the mail widget in hero.

A better Contacts app?

Anyone using an app for their contacts that's better than the stock Captivate app?
My problem with the app is likely due to how I use it, but it's driving me crazy. I have 3 accounts syncing their contacts to it. 90% of each account is a dupe of the other accounts, but I need to have all 3 for that 10%. If I don't, then I have to pick one and constantly take the time to manually make sure it's up to date. Instead I think the spool should just work.
My problems are so far it only lets you combine 4 contacts. I *could* go through all 3 accounts and clean them up, but again, I think the app should be more flexible and let me combine as many as I want. Also, it doesn't let me choose a group of contacts within gmail. WHY does it think I need the contact info of EVERY person I've ever communicated with?! Let me just limit which groups within the account I want synced, especially to limit it to "my contacts" within gmail.
Anyone with similar frustrations find something better?
Thanks!

the one included in the Cognition ROM is pretty awesome. i just noticed it today (i don't use that app too often). it looks the same but you can swipe left to text a contact or swipe right to call. i found this very slick!

I would try dialer one. It's free and an amazing app. I'm not sure it will do what you want but there are tons of options. My favorite is the swiping to go to contacts, favorites, and call log. I started using it because I wanted my favorites to come up first thing without a dial pad when I hit the phone. Hope it helps.
all the contact apps are half done as is e mail
How can you take Android seriously without a decent contacts manger or e mail client?
I have tried them all the contact apps and they are all difficult if not impossible to use. Some do not enable all the fields you need and on others the search is incorrect. None of them mesh with or incorporate the phone & text function well. Right now I'm working with the 2.2 contacts manager, 2.2 messaging and Touchdown. It takes all three to marginally achieve what I need. This is an opportunity for someone.
I just installed the CyanogenMod e mail to try and find a decent e mail client. It is not much better then the 2.2 e mail (it does include your message when you reply), Touchdown or any of the others. Touchdown would be good if it would handle multiple accounts of each and every variety. There is another opportunity here.

If you are syncing 3 contact sources and there are some dupes, then those are linked - you can see all 3 individually, but picking the contact source you want to view, or you can unlink those 10%.
As for groups, 2.2 appears to fix this, but for now, one solution is to export all your contacts to your SD card then import them all to your "phone". The phone address book allows you to create and manage groups.
Maybe the stock Android contact manager is better. I am holding out for 2.2 as what i have seen, looks like they fixed most issues involving groups and google groups.

Can't create calendar items

Can't create calendar items
Since the update for Froyo and fct reset I have been unable to create a new Calendar item. Every time I try (using both the stock calendar and Android Agenda widget) the Edit Event screen pops up along with the keyboard only to quickly disappear before I can enter any data.
Anyone else seeing this or have any suggestions for me?
I have rooted my phone, and did remove some bloatware by renaming files. However, I restored all of the files and am still having the issue.
it also will not sync with my google calendar at this time, but it seems like that might be a separate issue as I'm not able to log into my calendar on the google site at this tmie either.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Is there a way to install just Google Calendar or Google Contacts

I've got my g-Tablet set up just about the way I want it. I like the stock ROM. I have Market working.
My problem is that I don't have any use for the stock Calendar or Contacts apps. I'd like to get the proper Google ones installed without messing up anything else. Some of the replacement ROMs do a good job of this (Google apps run and connect and sync properly to my Google account), so I know it must be possible.
I did try the cyanogenmod update file, but doing this caused several problems and I had to restore from a backup. These problems included causing Market to crash any time it was run as well as Contact and Calendar apps that wouldn't connect or sync to my Google account.
Is there anyone who can walk me through the process of adding a single Google app such as Calendar or Contacts and get it up and connected to my Google account?

I finally figured out that "Tom" possibly means "ROM."
So, can anyone point those of us who are interested in adding just Google's Calendar or Contacts apps, rather than a replacement ROM or all-in-one "Google Apps" add-on, in the right direction?

[Q] Please Help Me Fix Calendar

I have an ATT Active running 4.4.2 and I uninstalled my stock calendar thinking I would stop the duplicate notifications. Unfortunately I learned that now my google calendar won't open and I can't sync it. I used TI backup to uninstall and then I restored calendar storage but I can't find my calendar apk to restore (don't know what happened to it). I have searched and downloaded Splanner apk and calendar provider apk's but I can't get the calendar's to open. I'm guessing the apk's I am finding aren't compatible with my phone? Can someone please help me and let me know what I need to reinstall just to get google calendar up and running so it can sync? I really depend on it for work and I'm struggling to keep track of my schedule without it.
Anyone? Really could use some help.

What about the Google Calendar app? I always install Google Calendar from the Play Store, and then use TiBu to uninstall the stock calendar app, I've never had any trouble doing this on several devices
Thank you for the reply. I installed the Google calendar but it won't open and I'll get calendar error messages at random while using the phone. I must have unistalled something else that doesn't allow Google calendar to work. Do you have any suggestions on what I should look for?
Little help please. I'm still stuck with no working calendar.
standalone calendar that works?
Somewhat off topic but is at least a basic calender that might work, but may not sync with google calendar.
Calender is one of the things that is not well defined as to what you need for it to work. I'm attempting to get some basic calender functionality without installing gapps framework. I have a TB Cyanogenmod account that may allow Android or Google Calender to work without a Google account?
After trying several calendar apps at f-droid without success, Jorte Calendar seems to work good as a standalone app for a sans gapps system.
Thanks for the reply. Is this calendar my last option? Is there no way, without wiping my phone and starting from scratch, to replace whatever apk's are missing? I would really like to just install what is missing and continue using the phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to get calendar working by replacing the apk's you deleted, we just need to know what apk's you deleted so we can send you the replacements.
Thanks for the quick response. As far as I can tell the apk that I am missing is the calendar apk. Is there a way to compare the apk's that I have compared to what I should have? Thanks again.

Google Calender 5.0 .apk:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxnEA1OTspCUTWRJQ2lIRkpIaEE/view?usp=sharing
Thanks for the apk. Unfortunately I keep having the same problem as before when I downloaded Google calendar. When I try to open calendar I get "Unfortunately calendar has stopped" and I also get the same error message for Exchange services simultaneously. Does this give any clues as to what might be missing?
I had similar issue as well when I was uninstalling stuff. After a couple months of not having a properly functioning calender I tried out Today Calender Pro when it was on sale. It works great. Might be worth a shot.

You could try opening the app details and deleting it's data. That may fix Exchange services at least, but didn't fix google calendar for me. I'm in the same boat as you, just not dependent on syncing with google.
If you have a good recovery option, you can make a backup and try flashing gapps again:
