What's Today Widget v1.3 - G1 Apps and Games

The widget, which can be found on the market, is called "What's Today Calendar Widget" and "What's Today Cal Widget Donate." Like the name implies, it tells about today. The day of the week is displayed, along with the calendar date.
Never forget the day of the week or the day of the month again! And best of all, it has an Eclair theme to it to match Google's "News and Weather" widget.
If you like the way it looks (shown in attached screenshots), please check it out in the market and considering purchasing "What's Today Widget" from the market. Thanks!!
Changelog:
1.0
– Released
1.1
– 2×1 Widget Added
1.3
- Re-coded the widget from the ground up
- Press widget to open calendar agenda
- Fixed a bug with updating the correct date (still buggy, it’s being worked on)
- Updated widget images to better match Google’s “News and Weather” widgets

You're seriously charging money for this..? It takes 1 line of code and a layout xml to make this in Android.
I'm not trying to be a **** or put you off learning the sdk, but maybe you should come up with some more creative ideas before trying to charge people for them.. After all, you can just pull down the notification bar to see the date.

Point noted. To be honest, I wasn't sure how things like this are usually received.
I've made it free on the market now. Thanks for your feedback.

I still think you should make a donate version...maybe just $0.25. I tried to do exactly what goldenarmZ said and ran out of time and patience, so there may be a market out there for this.

Sadly the market does not let me charge less than 99 cents, otherwise I would.
I have uploaded a Donate version of the Widget for 99 cents. Thanks for the suggestion.

Tried it for a bit, but it seems to have the formatting of the Nexus News widget which is a different size and shape than the Power Control widget. Maybe I'm just picky, but having two nearly similar widgets on the screen that aren't exactly the same size looks a bit off...

Wow I love the simplicity of it. I would def. donate

Nice work OP.

Keep it installed to see what the dev will do with updates, but I keep finding it running a process, even though I don't have any widgets on the screen? Going to have to uninstall for this reason...

There will be an update soon that will attempt to address the problem with the process running, but I'm not sure exactly why this is.
To keep updated on this widget, the changelog is at http://naterad.com/android/category/widgets/whats-today-calendar-widget/

Where Are The Widgets?

I see new apps pop up everyday, but how come there haven't been any new widgets yet?
I had a great idea for an alternative to the Google search widget, but I can't find the code for it to work off of. Does anyone have any insight they can share on how or where I can get it?
I liked the idea of the widgets, but after a few days I removed both of them. It just took up to much room on my display. there is already a digital clock, why is a analog one needed too. And my home page is google, so why do I need it on my home screen. Once they come out with useful ones I may try again. But now they just are not needed for me.
Sorry its a bit off topic, but thats always bugged me.

That's the gist of what I was getting at. I hate the analog clock too, and the Google one is almost just as useless. There is a lot of potential, but I'd hate to see a rash of useless ones like some of the apps currently in the market.
You know what would be nice, if you can download a widget that is used on igoogle. there are a lot of cool/useful ones there.
They havent released the SDK for widgets yet. Soon as they do im sure you will see many tip calculator widgets.
I want a weather widget! I would love to see the weather for today and 2 days into the future just like my old Hermes did.
the week before the G1 came out, Android Community was teeming with app and widget ideas. I roposed a weather widget similar to the weather tab on TouchFLO 3D. Instead of having the 3D weather overlay on a blank black screen, the weather would overlay on top of the desktop, making it look liek the weather is happening inside your phone. Imagine your screen getting frost on it from the inside, rain drops dripping down your screen, blurring out your icons, snow blowing across stick to the screen and making snow drifts when it hits your icons.
ok back on topic.
Once the SDK is released there will be a swarm of widgets popping up on the market, but there's definitely going to be some rel crappy things out there, just like apps and games..
I never use one of my screens I would love a weather on to utilize that full window.

You forgot crappy themes lol
might be awhile for widgets, the widget SDK required root access, so they have to pretty much redo the majority of it before they can release it since they don't want anyone to have root access...dunno if that's Google's decision or T-Mobile's.
That's gotta be tmobile doing that. Google's all about open source right?

can we please put that from fiction into reality????!!!! That would be amazing. Another strike against these cocky iphone owners... (only envy from me )
Maybe an own thread - wishlist- app???
there is an app on the market called steamy window. Maybe a good start to combine with a weather app?
I could (for the most part) care less about cupcake's offerings. I want some of the "behind the scenes" stuff to help smooth out the OS, but the flashy stuff I could care less about. Widgets, in my opinion, are the only eye candy I could use or want....
I wonder if it will even be possible to create without root access since it needs to push/pull info from the main application.
My first thought when having the G1, was if they plan to include widgets at some point (which I bet they do), then will they allow us more than 3 homescreens? I mean, the google widgets themselves take up valuable realestate!
I don't get it, why do you say "when the sdk will be released", you mean a total new version of the sdk ?
And why can't we now, develop widget, we just have to look how the google search widget was done and realise some widget.
And yes, the htc meteo interface is really amazing, if someone realise something like that for android, it will be awesome

[THEME] Lordsmiff III (CM 4.2.5) 17th Nov

Call me picky but, I just couldn't seem to find a theme that I really liked. Android 2.0 comes close but I liked the red of the blur ROM - so, wanting a red-ish theme and a smaller app drawer at the bottom, I decided to make my own theme.
I also seem to be a bit of a rarity in that in the main, I actually like the default status bar icons so I don't feel it necessary to make the battery round or android shaped or anything. So, on mine, the battery looks like a battery...I dunno, seemed kinda logical to me ;-) I added a little touch of colour to some of them but nothing OTT I don't think (I really like my 3G activity icon now - reminds me of an old modem with status LED's
There are a couple of things that I pinched out of other people's ROMs (gmail icon from djengiz), widget background from ZilverZurfarn's melange theme but most of it has either been replaced or re-coloured by me
Thanks to everyone I've nicked stuff from and anyone else I haven't "credited".
And, of course, a big thanks to Cyanogen for his awesome ROMs
It runs OK for me - I've only got a G1 so use it on anything else at your own risk.
Guarantees :
1) I will mysteriously disappear should this break everyone's phones.
2) I probably can't fix it if it doesn't work (mention it anyway though)
3) That it will not work on your Nokia N95
4) Or your Sony Ericsson C905
5) That I've not finished tweaking it
Todo list:
=======
*** Status bar background - re-thinking the brushed metal look - let me know what you think about this
*** Power widget background (still using ZilverZurfarn's but want to get my own there ASAP)
* Browser link shortcut icon needs re-colouring (forgot for this one)
** Analogue Clock Widget
* App drawer handle needs "tidying" - I'm not as happy as i could be with it
Hope you like it - let me know how it works out for you.

Update to 4.2.5
============
I've re-done most, if not all of the icons that I just pinched from the blur ROM and I've been a bit more selective of the stuff that I've recoloured as I thought it was looking a little too dark previously. I've also taken out a lot of the un-used png's that have been hanging around as the ROMs have developed.
I initially used the Android 2.0 theme as a template for mine and there were a few files in there that could come out and some from the blur ROM that I'd copied over and weren't used on the G1. Oh, and I've also deleted all thumbs.db files in all my drawables folders - so it should be a little smaller now and putting less un-needed crap on your phones.
I've been using this myself for a couple of days now and not had any FCs at all so I think you're good to go
Theme-porn follows:
I do love the design of the power widget, I may have to steal that for my alienaqua theme, it has similar colors.
Really nice choice of colors, great job on this and reading the post made me laugh. Thanks for sharing, keep up the great work.
This looks real stylish.
A lot of nice details and as prash said: the power widget is beautiful.
that lock screen is sick. one of the best i have seen !
Edit: just realised it was from the 2.0 theme lol. but nice the anyways
hey what lockscreen is that?
I just downloaded this theme, and the app drawer tab for me is still the same as cyanogen's stock one that he had and not like the android 2.0 type tab you have in the screenshots. any thoughts on how to get it to look like that?
It includes both the Advanced Launcher and the standard one - if when you press the home key, it doesn't give you the choice, use the application manager to remove the default setting (you can switch back if you don't like it).
I originally wasn't going to used the advanced launcher but it is much more stable these days and I haven't had any problems or slow down with it.
It's the only one of the two that I have skinned so far - I will update it in the next day or two so that they are both skinned
Thanks for the positive comments everyone This was only something I was doing for myself but like someone mentioned above, it's in the details and I wasn't happy with only doing a few bits and pieces so I went further and reached a point where I was happy to share it with others.
There's still a few things I want to do yet but I'm having the weekend off and will get back to it on Monday
If it i can leave it alone for that long... ;-)
Cheers,
Smiffy.
great looking theme!
lockscreen looks good but dont function nicely
I am not too crazy about the red but otherwise this is a really good looking theme. It's very fast and stable.. no force closes or other crashes yet. Great work!
I just installed this theme over CyanMod 4.2.4. It works well with no issues so far.
Well, there's a few new icons in 4.2.4 so I've updated my theme and played with a lot of the new stuff.
It's working OK for me with no FCs but caveat emptor and all that...
Thanks for all the positive comments. I've also gone back to the standard lock screen for the time being - as much as I didn't care about the stretching issue in landscape, I wasn't overly happy about nicking someone else's work so I may do my own in the near future.
Might not though so don't hold your breath or anything - in fact, I actually like this standard one...we'll see.
Oh, and about the analogue clock - I'm going to make it slightly darker but not do much more than that to it - do people even use it?
Cheers,
Smiffy.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb version 2 [preview]

A partner and i have been working on a simple clock widget themed off the one in android 3.0.....there is a lite version for free and a paid version for $0.99 that allows you to choose from 16 different colors...please support us and download it
I am hoping that we update soon. I know that currently this app has rather poor ratings and is being trumped by a similar one like it, due to the other one being more functional. However, the new update will include completely redesigned graphics, which I must note will be an exact replica of what is currently on Honeycomb (i.e all, not some, of the rings will rotate, and all will rotate with the correct increment of time corresponding)...the only issue right now is getting the clock to open the alarm app, I have the correct code if only i knew how to implement it correctly, and I dont really want to ask my partner due to the fact that usually he is busy.
Anyway, check out the attached pics of the preview for version 2 at the bottom....just a note, the graphics do look as bad as the pictures, obviously the quality on the pics ahas been compressed in the attatchements
https://market.android.com/details?id=honeycomb.clocks.lite&feature=search_result
https://market.android.com/details?id=honeycomb.clocks&feature=search_result
-just a side note, for those that love tron, you will love out widget
Update Pending
Thanks for the info. Looks great.
Hey I just bought the pro version
Question - where can I find the slanted dockbar you show in the demo pics?
Cheers.

He just placed a few app shortcuts to the homescreen and lined them up like that.
Clever; I must have put in every imaginable search term for slanted dockbar - thanks for the feedback - I'll have to play with it later..
Is there anything else you guys would like to see in the app?...i want to do an update with transparent backgrounds, but my partner and i are hesitant to, as it would be an overload of widgets, it would just be a long list of Honeycomb Clock, Honeycomb Clock transparent (no black) and so on
It would help alot to do an update if someone would please tell us how to package them together like the HTC clocks or the beautiful widgets
also can somebody please tell us how to get this to work with other alarm clock apps when you click on it, besides the stock android alarm clock app
thank u very much
can u please post the wallpaper u used in the demo pics?

[Android 2.1+] WMD-Weather & Clock

Available in Google Market...
End December 2010 I released WMD-Weather Lite in the Android Market. This widget is based on the WMD-Weather widget I created earlier for the Windows Mobile UI Androkkid. Since then, I've been working on the full version of this weather app & widget, hoping to release it soon as a paid version. This one will extend the lite version, and combine ideas from two other Androkkid widgets I created: WMD-Clock and WMD-WorldClock.
The application features a weather application, showing the current conditions (weather icon, temp, short text, status icons), a 6-day forecast and details when a weather icon is clicked (see images below), including a radar image. Where available (US), the UV index and pollen information/air quality are available as well for today's details.
Multiple locations are supported, as well as 'My location' which is modified when you move, and just about any location on the planet can be added. By swiping left or right, the next location's info is displayed. When the current location is known (via GPS or network), it will be proposed when adding a location.
The application can be set to update automatically.
Please see my site to get the latest information on features (this post is not updated frequently).
Lanuages supported: English, Dutch, German, French, Norwegian, Hungarian
Currently, the application comes with 3 widgets:
Simple weather widget (2x1)
- shows the location,
- the current weather icon
- current temperature and real feel temperature
- next day forecast icon, min/max temperature
- optional background (choice of backgrounds)
- time last updated
- clicking on the widget will launch the app with the widget's location
Weather/Clock widget (4x1)
- the simple weather widget, combined with
- a clock, optionally showing the location's local time
- optionally, the next alarm
- optionally, the current date
- optional backgrounds (choice of backgrounds)
- choice of 5 clock digit styles
- optionally display the hour leading 0 (e.g. 01:00 instead of 1:00)
- optionally select an application to launch when the clock's digits are clicked
Advanced Weather/Clock widget (4x2)
- the Weather/Clock widget, combined with
- an additional row with forecasts for the main widget location and/or current weather info for other locations (including the location's time)
By using the location's time, the clock widget can be used to create a weather/world clock by adding multiple locations with their time to your Android home app (see the images below for an example).
Currently in development for the next version:
- downloadable digit styles and backgrounds
- reworked internals
- more languages: Spanish & Portuguese
Wish list:
- widgets functioning on all devices
- additional weather widget(s)
- screen to screen animation
- slide from day to day in the details screen
All resolutions should be supported, allthough for 320x200 devices, scrolling is required to see all information. And, depending on the screen's density and the launcher used, the widgets may not display correctly. Try out the lite version to verify everything is displayed correctly.
PS: the application is tested on small screen/low dpi resolutions via the emulator, for which the results are correct. However, on the HTC Wildfire the widgets are not rendered fully...
WMD-Weather contains more information, screenshots, version info and the barcode to install the application. The link and barcode for WMD-Weather Lite can be found there as well.
Any feedback - good or bad, bugs, ... - is appreciated!

Thanks Excepter!
Please let me know if you notice any incorrect behavior (clock stops updating, service no longer running, ...).
I'm also looking for feedback on HTC Sense based devices. The widget size may be incorrect on HTC Sense, but I'm unable to test this (on ADWLauncher, my favorite, it looks good on all resolutions).
If you have other ideas to improve the application's functionalilty, I'll be happy to hear this as well...
Good work! I installed this on a htc hero running aosp 2.2 (no sense). I'll report back in a few days if I have any issues/ideas.
Edit: I just got an "error configuring widget" after I changed some of the preferences. Hmph I should have left it alone. Anyway I have to go to sleep, I'll play with it more tomorrow. I wish I had the skills to put together something like this; time is so hard to come by anymore...
Got it tested today on a HTC Desire with Sense (thanks Wim). No issues there.
However, the widgets on the HTC Wildfire (thanks Kurt) don't show all info and the background doesn't cover the entire widget. Something to work on...
Looking good, Ima try it later.
These look really clean!

Sorry for my somewhat late response.
I've had no issues with connectivity. However, in the lite version's comments there are 2 comments (out of 72) regarding update issues.
The app verifies if there's an internet connection available before launching an update. I've been able to test wifi, edge, hdspa, but not 3G myself.
Hopefully other users can share their experience here, to find out if it's 3G or device related. I'll do some research on this as well.
Nice work! Using this on my HTC Hero, no issues whatsoever.

Nope... not yet. Small screen devices will be one of the things I'll be focussing on next, cause it's really bugging me. I've already put in quite some time and tried some alternative layouts, but without success. If anyone else has a solution, please let me know.
It's hard to emulate. One thing I noticed lately is, that my widgets actually overlap in the small screen emulator. Which is a first (small) step ahead...
So I ended up buying a htc wildfire to do development work on for small screens.
The htc doesn't handle the small screen in the same way that others (such as the xperia x10 and the samsung galaxy 550) do. And what I found was that whilst the bounding box on my widget looked fone on the xperia and 550, it was stopping short on the wildfire.
Within my layout I had a android:layout_marginBottom="15dip" for the bounding box. Duplicating the layout and putting it in layout-small and removing the marginBottom fixed the problem for the widget on the wildfire, but also left a large space on the other small screens. As I have fewer wildfire users than x10 users this wasn't an option. Yesterday I tested a dirty fix; in the settings/preferences menu I have added in a widget layout option with default and small screen (wildfire) options.
When the user selects the wildfire option the widget will load with a layout that doesn't use marginBottom for the bounding box. And this seems to work. Would be good if I could detect what device the user was using so that this could be done automatically.
Thanks. It seems to be the same issue I'm having with the Wildfire. The emulator did not show the issue, but it does partly overlap 2 (of my) widgets when putting one above the other. I was planning on experimenting with relative layouts. Did you try something like that?

[Android 1.6+] Timed - typographic clock and advanced alarm

MOD EDIT: links removed
Timed
typographic clock widget and advanced alarm
Fahrbot Mobile are happy to present Timed, a minimalistic text clock and advanced alarm clock with many useful features not found in other alarm applications.
Have you ever wished you could choose the length of snooze on the fly without actually waking up? Timed is for you!
- Totally configurable widget (scale, alignment, element and shadow colors)
- Widget shows time remaining till next alarm
- Extra configurable snooze buttons (snooze, snooze more, snooze less)
- Gentle alarm which slowly raises volume instead of jarring you awake
- Complete hardware button configuration
New features are coming in the next few weeks, including dock mode, dynamic widget element realignment and more.
Timed is an expanded tribute to the great TypoClock, so a big shout out to Semicuda for the original idea!

You should post a free version for us developers? That would be nice of you I would probably donate if you did!
Just like Screenshot ER? its been downloaded 10000 times from the forum and is all over the andro-web but the donate version has sold 200 copies on the market.
Sorry, not this time!
Yeah well its a little different wouldnt you say your screenshot utility is a necessity versus the clock you could probably remove certain things from it for a free version...No? Its cool man its a business I understand I'm gonna buy your app this weekend anyways saw that theres a sale on em so Im gonna grab timed and screenshotER.... maybe thatll buy ya a beer or somethin!
Actually its not all that different. You use the screenshot er every now and again, but Timed is always on your home screen, always visible, always working.

Hi!
I really like this app! I've been searching for an alarm widget, that shows the remaining time to alarm, and this app does!
worth the price
Thanks
Love the widget, but not as much as I love this wallpaper
:
Lol its a marketing ploy on my part.
The wallpaper is from CM6.
Looks interesting..too bad there's no hands on preview available
By the way, the root call blocker works fine..
Oh please, its a clock widget. Out could test it 10 times in the 15 grace period...
You're assuming that everyone has access to google checkout and credit cards..
I for one can buy only those apps whose devs allow paypal purchase..
offering a limited version is always a good marketing policy.
Swyped with my Starburst based Desire. Please ignore any typos or grammos.
If I do make this "preview", you would never be able to buy the full app. You would have to go to another country!
Or were you referring to a free version?
I really like this widget -- simple and to the point. The ability to size the widget and change the colors is a nice touch, too.
If I may make some requests/suggestions:
1) Add the ability to change the font
2) The "drop shadow" as it is implemented isn't really a drop shadow -- it's more of an outline. Typically a drop shadow is offset by 2 pixels to the right and below.
Originally i just made this for myself, but i have been thinking of adding more fonts too. I will look into it. In the next update you will certainly get a customisable offset, as i have already written the code for it in Balanced.
Guys, we could use some suggestions about now as we will be working on the app this week...
Nice widget. You have to add font option,
another idea I have in mind is to add the ability to cjoose the wake up
sound from your media folder.
The font option is on the todo, and i dont see any difficulties adding files from a folder too. Ill look into it!
Ive updated the app with new icons.
Any issues to report? Suggestions?
