fix permissions not working in terminal emu - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok this my issue when i try to gin root acces in the terminal emulator and i enter su < enter >
and it say denied.
but when i goto console it does it fine with no problems. why is this ?
i dont thonk its cause of cm5 stable. ill keep toying with it and ill see wut happens. thanks in advance.

I've been having a similar problem on my rooted HTC Aria. I also tried to to gain SU access in Terminal Emulator, but it says it's denied. I recently noticed how ignorant I was (speaking for myself). To get SuperUser access in Terminal Emulator, you have to put in "su" instead of the default capitalized "SU". So just put in the lowercase one (su) and you have SuperUser rights!

Super user and Shell

has any one tried these two apps i think it ****ed up my phone, i had root before i installed them now i dont. any help or suggestions would be nice, i tried unistalling and reseting my phone but it doesnt work.
i found the description on both apps kinda confusing and overlapping..so i stayed off it..
Shell description says "If you have a rooted version of Android, download the Superuser application..Shell can use Superuser to get a root prompt."
Superuser description says "If you are using a modified/rooted version of RC30, Superuser will close the setuid su security hole...Download the Shell application to get root prompt"
so i am assuming if you have a root-unlocked RC30 then you only need Shell which is a terminal app. you probably did not need to install Superuser..
as for your problem, hope koushik will see your sos and help you fix it.

Shell is just a test/demonstration. Superuser is what is required. If you don't know what they do or how they do it, it's best not to install them for now. Just rm the su command.
I am updated to Jesusfreke's newest modified version 1.2 but I still get the same error when i request superuser off of shell ( i also remembered to run superuser before requesting access in shell too). I just re-flashed ( i think that's what its called) JF's modified and now I can run root on terminal emulator again if haitiankis4lyfe is still trying to figure out how to get it back.

Trying to learn ADB functions! Need some help!

I am trying to learn how to use ADB, so I can find the cause of a problem I am having on every 2.xx Rom I have tried, and I have tried them all!
So take a look at the screen shot, and you can see it finds my phone. For some reason thats as far as I have gotten, been screwing with it for 2 days but alas I have to ask!
Thanks for any help you can be!
Roman
OK, at a quick glance....
Instead of just typing "logcat", try "adb logcat". I think you'll have better luck.
Still looking through the rest, will edit in a few minutes.
EDIT 1: Don't actually put the "#" or the "$" on your command line. Those are prompts that the shell presents to you, not something you're supposed to type.
EDIT 2: Add the sdk\tools directory to your path. It will make your life much easier. You can get away with just doing a "cd" to that directory, but in the long run things will be much easier if you just put it in your path.
EDIT 3: "Operation not permitted"????? That command should have worked. Have you rooted your phone yet?
do adb "insert command here" logcat push pull install etc...
Cool thanks for the help subliminalurge, I think I got it now!
Now to start my bluetooth headphones with 1.5 and grab a log, then load up 2.1 and grab a log and see what the HELL is wrong!
Thanks again!
One last question, is it possible to save a whole string from CMD!
Also how do you do a dalvik wipe?
These are the 2 commands I have! Not sure if either one work or not!
DALVIK WIPE:
adb remount
adb shell
# cd /system/sd/dalvik-cache
# rm *
adb reboot recovery
adb shell mount /data
adb shell rm -r /data/dalvik-cache
I havent used adb since rooting my g1, since the release of the flashrec method.
Heres my noob question
Can terminal emulator do the same things as adb?
The only thing id ever use adb for is to push/pull, and i just use root explorer for that.
Jesus, youd think i became a senior just by spamming...
Terminal Emulator can not do the same thing as ADB. ADB is Android Developer Bridge (bridge as in computer to phone connection). Terminal Emulator, if you know Linux terms, emulates a Linux terminal on the phone... so, if you do "adb shell", you'll have the same commands as you would in terminal emulator... sorry I'm confusing

Lol i see what you mean.
You need adb to theme, dont you?
Windows man, through and through
(oh the irony, of being such an android patron...)

Terminal Emulator??? Access "adb shell"???

how do i use the terminal emulator app to access adb shell?
adb shell is only used when you're on a computer, like when using android sdk tools. When you use the terminal emulator you use different commands try This Link for some help using the terminal emulator, they're basically the same as linux commands.
also this should be in the Q&A section
lol the terminal is the 'shell'
if you're running a terminal right on the phone, then consider yourself already @root when you're typing in commands.

Sort of. You are a user, but not "root". To become superuser you have to use the SU command.
/ $ su

I'm sorry if I'm nitpicking here. Your original point remains true. You don't have to use ADB at that point to run commands. You run the command without ADB right in the terminal.

No, you're fine. I was just assuming that he was already rooted, but you're right - it's a regular user account unless you change to superuser.
in order to do what you probably want you will have to type su. It should then ask for SU permission and then you should gey
Code:
#
.
hello everyone, idk if im in the wrong place, but im trying to connect my non rooted phone to my rooted tablet with terminal emulator. Is there a way for me to use adb because it worked with my previous phone...its not working and isn't showing any device when i input "adb devices"...Can anyone help me please, help would be greatly appreciated ?(btw usb debugging is enabled on my phone)

tatoo M7 root completed but applications say it is not rooted

I have completed my Tattoo M7 root however applications say it is not rooted.
basically if i do ADB SHELL and then SU i get the root console but can not write to /system folder via adb push since i get permisison denied which means i always have to adb shell and su.
I believe this is somehow creating problems also to applications (i am testing Titanium Backup) which require root permissions and say i am not.
Anyone can help understanding why i can su only in console or terminal emultor but cannot use apps requiring root permissions.
Dude, you have to remount EVERY TIME /system and /data if you reboot, otherwise it says permission denied because system is read only...
Get RootExplorer, there is a little button which lets you remount partitions with one tap...

[Q] Problem flashing custom recovery

edit---
solved. close please. had to allow su access on my phone when i typed su in the cmd prompt LOL i feel stupid. i watched the video on theunlockr website but it was blocked by my adblocker and i didnt know it was there until i read a comment saying something about a video ._.
edit--
sorry
Hi, so im new to this stuff. i followed theunlockr guide to rooting the g1 with androot and got that done fine.
Now I've moved to flashing a custom recovery and I placed the flash_image and the recovery.img on the root of my sdcard and went to terminal typed su and all that good stuff. and it just says flash_image not found or something. so i tried the adb method and all is good, i type su and when as im typing the "mount -o,exec...." all of a sudden it just says Permission denied when I haven't even pressed enter.
And now I'm stuck...what could I do to solve this problem? Do I not have su access in adb?
