Blue Arrow Navigation APK - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

I didn't know what to call this apk. I jumped around different roms and noticed the additional navigation program that was used with Google Navigator. I think it had to do with the car docking. It's a blue arrow. Is there a apk? Could someone extract this and make a universal update.zip?
thanks,
BDB

Found it. Google is my friend.

It comes with Google Maps v4.2(? I think)

Issues with programs that use Google Maps

For reference, I have a Sprint Touch Pro with the original ROM.
On my phone, Google Maps works fine, but it seems that programs that use the map from google maps don't. For these programs, instead of showing a map, they just show grey. So, with GL Maps, I see grey with a boarder that I can move around by tilting my phone. On PockeTwit, the feature which lets me map by friend's tweets shows the thumbtacks or flags for my friends post, but they are placed on a grey background.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

Google Maps - adding markers

Is there no way at all to add markers on a map in Google Maps ?
My Nokia's and SE's could do this and considering Google write the OS, you'd think that any Android handset would have the best version of its most popular app.
Their Map editor app is rubbish. Can't even position you on the map, you have to do this manually.
Are there any apps that will do this with Google Maps as I'd like to mark a hotel location in Amsterdam and then be able to get routing info back to it... I always get lost in Amsterdam for some reason
It seems Google Maps on Hero doesn't support this feature, which is a shame I think...
I used to have a Windows Mobile device, on which I can save a map location (or search result) as Favorite in Google Maps.
My maps editor from google does this job. Since they are saved in your account, you can access them from pc using google maps as well. In windows mobile, you can see your maps as a layer but as far as I remember it is read only. The android app lets you add/modify existing ones. The points you can save in WM were stored locally in the device and not available online.

Problem is, you cannot display those markers in Google Maps and then select one to navigate to.
Surely marking your position is pretty basic stuff and has been possible for years on non Google OS handsets.
Bloody silly in my book.
A simple way to add markers surely can't be that hard for those at the Googleplex ?
You'd think Maps was the same on any platform, but appears to be knobbled on some and full featured on others.
You can use the My Maps editor to mark you stop or add points. You will need to open your map in My Maps and from there you can choose to get directions to the location. Also, HTC has put the Footprints app which solves this problem. Simply create a new footprint with the widget or app (add picture, description if you want) and then just select which footprint you want directions to.
both pretty much do the same thing, but you need to use those apps (My Maps or Footprints) instead of Google Maps. As you mentioned, google maps for nokia supports adding markers. the Wm version does the same as well. I'm not sure why Google chose to include it in a seperate app instead of all in one.
If you have not used footprints, it's a whole lot of fun. I've used it to mark my friends houses, work, and some great restaurants. directions are always just one click away.
Ah, cool tips thx. Bit of a faffy implementation, but will give this a go.
Never bothered with Footprints TBH, always used to using one app (Google Maps).
Mind you, with no way to back up data with any of the HTC apps, updating firmware will be a royal pain once Footprints has been used a number of times.
I got round it by adding a location as a contact and then using the Find Work feature.
Again a pain and no where near as useful as Google Maps should be on Google's own platform.
I am using Google Maps.. My Maps and Google Tracks..
They are pretty cool and the tracks app is great for cycling.
You have to wonder why this isnt all in one app though.
I have found that just using My Maps is fine tho.. and as stated above you can add markers and stuff to your hearts content
A simple marker in Google Maps so you can request navigation by foot is all I need... a pain to use multiple applications for something that already in Maps on other platforms.

Google Maps 3.2.1 now in the market...

I've notived I'm running 3.2.0 which has voice nav, is 3.2.1 basically this the same thing or does the .1 mean voice nav is disabled? A few of the comments in the market state it doesn't have vn but you know how the marketeers go..
Any one try the one from the market yet?
Yes the comments in the Market indicate the update include GPS Navigation however the installation is unsuccessful when trying to update.
Working for me...
I'm coming from CM4.25 on a G1
Had 3.2.0 installed and working fine for voice nav (using the only change to build.trout.prop: ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.0/ESD20/17572:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys)
Voice nav works for me no issues on the upgrade to 3.2.1. No issues doing the upgrade through market - maybe just market general flakiness.
Did you guys install 3.2.0 or force the APK to the system directories?
I forced mine. Maybe thats the issue.
Mine came stock in dwangs 1.13 rom. Guess I'll give updating a whirl and see how it goes..

Remove all presence of the existing maps (e.g. like how you uninstall pre-3.2.0) then market should allow an ok install then... You can lookup in the forums how to do that.
Basically mount system as rw and removes any traces of Maps.apk or com.google.android.apps.maps.apk
Not working in Cyanogen 4.2.5
I'm running the CyanogenMod 4.2.5 on a myTouch and I keep the installation keeps ending up "unsuccessful". My error says "Installation Error - Package file was not signed correctly".
The market install worked for me, too; though I'm currently indoors and thus unable to get a GPS signal.
A few questions about Google Nav in general:
In the official Google video (http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/index.html#p=default), there seems to be a Street View option, particularly around turns (visible around 5:40). Yet, when using Nav (at least before the Market version), The best I could come up with is a zoomed-in satelite view. Has anyone been able to mimic what the video shows? I would imagine a layer for Street View, but I don't see one.
Also, when I first started using the app, the arrow would stay at the bottom the screen, and the map would rotate if the car turned (like an ordinary GPS). Now, the arrow moves around and the map stays stationary, pointed north. How does one fix this?
Can some upload the apk?

If you see the button with the blue arrow in it in the lower left corner of your screen, tap it. Mine does that when I scroll around on the map to look ahead or something.
Installed fine on Emother's AOSP. Nav working too.
i have a mt3g and the update works for me..
does anyone know how to get this widget??

Same here with a myTouch. Worked fine on a G1.
Can someone share the apk... I can't find it in the market...
Found it easily enough on the Market but the installation fails with the same message others have mentioned earlier
Breaks Google Talk for me when it's installed. Uninstalling the update fixes it.
Edit - Ugh. It's just so large that it pushed my adp1 into a low space situation. Apparently Google Talk won't start if your phone is too low on space.
i reinstalled cyans latest over my current build so that it could change back my prop file to say g1 instead of droid. Then went to the market and updated the maps program and it downloaded and installed just fine. Works just as good as before except this version is legit via the marketplace.
Has someone tested navigation outside the US? it works for me with the newest fix from the forum, but I'd like to know if it still works after updating?
works with dwangs 1.13
So I took the plunge and updated. First download failed to install, second download installed ok. Got a couple f/c,waits for the voicedialer (when opening maps and market) but they seem to have stopped. Nav is working cool.
I am running into issue getting this to install on my rooted G1. I get the good ol Package file was not signed correctly.
Tried to do the following:
adb shell
#mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#exit
adb uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps
Failure
Any help would be great
Rom = Cyanogen 4.2.4

Google Navigator - have you ???

Anyone in the UK got this running yet ??????
yes I have used it before. As have many others.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
ok, now I am confused. I have this installed,,, but just can not get it to work, Whenever I set a route, all I get is an overhead view, not the 3D Driving route like you see in the below image..... any ideas anyone ? how do I access the 3D map of a route ?
You need to install the modified google maps file for use outside of the USA.
The best way of doing this is to install "nav launcher" from the market.
When you open it up it will run through a set up, select "brut maps" and it will prompt you to download.
Then once its all installed your good to go.
From memory you tap the screen twice or something to get it to use street view for nav. Just have to play around with it, try pressing things and see what happens
ok, thanks. I have seen this BRUT maps before, but it just seems like another version of google maps. What do I have to do to use it as a SatNav system then ? PS Thanks for taking the time to educate me,, I am learning though...

use the app nav launcher, it lets you input an address then it launches google nav in brut maps for you automatically.
thanks Lennyuk...

Android Auto V2.1.7 has a selection menu for...alternative navigation app

Yesterday the Android Auto app V2.1.7 was released. So far there was a selection menu only for the streaming and music apps available. This pull down menue is now available at the navigation button as well. Pressing it pushes Google maps to a menu bar. Probably Waze is the alternative navigation app which will be selectable there. Hopefully other navigation apps will be available soon. I would like to use here, Navmii and so on.
Regards
Tom
It would be nice to have Tomtom, as it's the only one with decent traffic info where I live.
But on my play store I still see the old version. I guess 2.1.7 hasn't made it everywhere?

My phone just got it a few minutes ago.
Let be honest though, the only options will be Google Maps and Waze (which Google also owns).
They've been talking about adding Waze for almost a year and I'll bet it turns out to be too hard to let other developers add their own apps.
Google really doesn't want developers doing their own UI's in the car because they believe they are the only ones that can make them safe.
Let's see. To have this jump shortcut means Google provides further API's fo other navigation apps. As an alternative to Waze I would like to see here and Navmii o AA. If this should become successful, Google must open it for other non Google apps as well.
Noticed the little arrow as well. Let's see what will come. I doubt that there will alternative apps.

Make them safe... oh yes by ridiculous bad UIs (instead of having simple tiles to hear let's say a podcast I am forced to click multiple hierarchies of menus instead of a single click)
Make them safe by forcing me to scroll many time to get a traffic overview because Maps occupies with half of the screen with idiotic turn instructions even if next 50km there are no turns.
Make them safe by forcing me to replug USB every 5 mins after crash
I noticed the arrow too and got excited, then clicked on it to find google maps as the only option.
I hope soundcloud isnt far away either
