[IDEA] Re-sizable icons - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had the idea to have an option to re-size the size of an icon. Sort of like a pinch to zoom, but scaled. 1x1,2x2,4x4.
Would this be easy to write, or would it require widget type of coding?

Would need to be a custom widget per "icon", or a massive UI rewrite. I wouldn't hold your breath.

maybe a quick widget creator could be made? Like when you're choosing an icon from your app drawer, you get prompted to choose a size. I think this would look pretty good, anyone agree?

You can download the More Icons Widget from the market which lets you put 4 shortcuts in the space of 1.
Not as convenient, but it works.

This is more of an astheics thing and not a convienence things. I think it would looks really cool, and somewhat windows mobile 7 like to have a 2x2 message icon, or market icon, etc.

[Q]Formatting Widgets

For some widgets, Astrid for example, I can't seem to stretch the widget. For example, when I long press and get the option as to how many pixels I want I enter 4x2. When the Astrid box is placed on my screen it's still the same size (2x2) as it would be if I hadn't entered 4x2. The only difference is I can long click around the widget to move it as if it was occupying that space. Is there anyway I can actually make it (and other widgets) to actually occupy the 4x2 space?
Also, I can't seem to move widgets into corner spaces on my screen or exactly where I would like them to be on the screen.
I'm running CM6 stable, Froyo, ADW Launcher, on a rooted N1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ADW resizes the spaces used by widgets (as does LauncherPro) but it can not force the widget to resize the graphics within that space. If the widget is designed with resizable elements it will "grow" or "shrink" accordingly. If it has not been designed for this then you will get the experience you have. There's nothing you can do about this.
The (standard) screen has a 4x4 grid, widget and icon placement must conform to this, you can not place widgets or shortcuts in the "gaps".

What widgets does everyone have on their NC homescreen???

Like me, everyone probably saves their prettiest and most useful widgets for their homescreen. Since I'm so finicky, I like to see everyone else's homescreens to get ideas for new homescreen widgets/setup.
This is what mine looks like. What does yours look like?
If you're wondering what the widgets are...
Beautiful widgets weather widget
Moine-Garde S-01 timepiece widget
Pulse reader widgets

Hey dude. What reader wid do you use to list their previews in those large boxes? I use Zeam launcher. Fancy weather and time [2] wid's. I cannot figure how to transfer my png screenshot to a jpg tho. My menus don't carry any options to save it.

It's just the Pulse News Reader widget, it's not a custom widget.
Your widgets look great! I only have the agenda widget from launcherpro. I might set up pulse that way too, depends if I ever get around to adding feeds.

[Q] LauncherPro Homescreen

hi,
i don't know how to set a different wallpaper for each homescreen in launcherpro
thanks
P.S. im not allowed to post a direct link so i cant give you an example
Press the Menu button on your device
Now press Wallpaper
Choose one
Win.
EDIT: Just realized it was multiple wallpapers.
Wallpaper Plus also does the job.
Search for multipicture wallpaper in the market,is free and is awesome.
I recommend Wallpaper Plus, it's better
Dose any one know how to customize home screen icons in the launcherpro.

Depends on what icons you are talking about. In terms of the dock, just long press on a dock item, and click the change icon option when the menu opens.
As for icons on the homescreen itself, you can change an applications shortcut icon whenever you create it. Just long press on the homescreen, Select Shortcuts, then Applications, Pick an App, then click its icon to change it.
You can also use Desktop Visualizer - http://www.appbrain.com/app/desktop-visualizer/jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr
This will let you set make custom widgets in many sizes and set the image for them to what you want. This will allow you to use oversized icons, or even custom designs such as the WP7 designs you might see around here.
Hope that answers your question

well thats in widget state, Just have to live with it for now........
Thanks all for the comments........
PS, I couldn't click thanks4 papertreeprophet. cause its limited for each day..
when creating the shortcut, at the screen where you can rename the shortcut, click the icon, and it will allow you to choose whatever you'd like.
Instead of placing icons on your homescreen from the app drawer, long-press on the homescreen and go to shortcut, that will let you choose the icon and name. This only works for apps, not folders.

Make icons bigger

I'm trying to make my desktop icons bigger. They are around 40x40 dunno. The default android size. I want them to look bigger, like the iphone's or, at least, to the max it can hold... Any help please?
I've tried different apps and widgets, but none worked...

Like that!! (
Use desktop visualizer to make your short cuts. Use higher res icons though.
Nope, doesn't work. Still the same resolution. =(
use desktop visualizer as a widget..
Adjust your icon images with your favorite photo editor to something like 72x72 and use Desktop Visualizer like the others just posted as a widget. You'll get options for size, action, text, etc. Keep at it and have fun!
Woaaaaaah. *amazed* :O I didn't know it was in the widgets catalog. Thanks guys! ^_^ It worked to perfection.
...kinda, because I get FCs on LauncherPro on CM7 port for Magic.

Get third party icons from icon packs on OneUI Home!

Fair warning: I'm extremely anal about icons, so yeah.
I can't stand ugly icons on my home screen and in general. One my biggest gripes about any non-OxygenOS UI's is the fact that you can't customise your icons. Third party launchers don't play well with Android's native gestures (though using Good Lock's Task Changer fixes it) and doesn't allow for two different displays on our phones. And since FNG doesn't work well at all with the Z Fold 2 - I was forced to use OneUI with native gestures.
Hex_ theming allows for different icons, but you're stuck with the specific theme's icons which doesn't allow for diversity at all. Not to mention, certain icons (such as Chase Bank's, and Dunkin Donuts') are blurry and look dreadful. Hex is perfect to change the quick setting colour and status bar icons, so I highly recommend everyone look into it if you're looking to theme your quick settings/status bar. However, for those that are extremely picky about icons - it may not be the best.
However, I came across this app that looked interesting, it's called Shortcut Maker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rk.android.app.shortcutmaker&hl=en_US&gl=US
It's a free app so feel free to play with it. But what it allows for is creating a 1x1 widget that when you click on, you can launch an app, do a specific command, etc., and it looks like the creator is adding more functionality. You can add these 1x1 widgets into folders and the dock too. You can also choose the size of the icon, the shape, and you can even select your desired icon from icon packs from the Play Store! Watch it action in the video below.
One thing that I absolutely love about OneUI is the beautiful animations when you swipe up to go home. The animation, fluidity, and the way the icon actually wiggles a little bit looks amazing. When I first created a widget with Shortcut Maker, I saw that the swipe home didn't do the animation, much to my dismay. I thought that it's fine, and a smaller price to pay to not look at ugly icons. But then I decided to add the default icon in one of my folders and try to swipe - 'lo and behold, the animation is there. When you do swipe home, it does go into the folder with the app, but it still looks great. I highly recommend it for those that enjoy custom icons and don't mind spending quite a bit of time perhaps redoing their apps.

would be good to be able to create an icon for launcher folder (not the file folder!) where you can put apps icons. That would be an ultimate customizer.

Not a bad idea at all! I think you can leave it as a comment on the Play Store and the developer may look into it. The app isn't crazy popular and being flooded with comments so the developer can actually read them and respond.
