Hey guys, I am not sure whether there has been a fix found for creating your own mp3 ringtone sound louder with your XPERIA X1 without messing with your phone settings.
So what I thought was why not mess with the mp3 itself and see if it makes any difference. Again, I don't know if this has been suggested before but I was wondering if anyone would like an mp3 file they have that I can test and post back here just to see if it works.
Any volunteers?
*ps*: forgive me if this method has been proposed before

i tried increasing the sound in audacity but it gets to a point where it just gets really distorted if you keep increasing it but if you can strike a good balance then it works well!

Yes, this is what I meant. You can emphasize certain frequencies and minimize certain frequencies in Audacity and you can get a pretty fine ringtone.
You specifically play with the equalizer option to get your ringtone to sound according to your preference.
At any rate, it's all about balance like you said.

rudem0e, I am having difficulty finding anyone mentioning in that thread how to increase the ringtone sound without having to modify the phone registry settings or installing any cabs. Can you please tell me what page on thread 490391 you are referring to?
Thanks

I was looking for a true silent ringtone that I could add to certain contacts that I still wanted to know were calling but didn't want to hear. So I thought I could easily search for a "silent" ringtone. Sounded easy enough.
I saw several posts, here and on other forums, where people were looking for a silent ringtone, but the only ones I could find were the ringtone that "only kids could hear, not adults". You know the one where it is at such a high frequency that "anyone over 30ish". Well, what I was looking for was a truly silent ringtone. So I downloaded Audacity and decided to create one for myself.
I created a 30 second silent mp3 ringtone (in stereo, ). Now, I can add that custom ringtone to any contacts that I want. Since I had seen many requests for something like this on here and while googling, I decided to share with all.
And since I know how most people dislike RapidShare, I have attached the file to this post. Maybe others will find this as useful as I have.
Enjoy.

Very good, good solution.
tnx m8..
No problem, glad I could help.
I just found it weird that I was unable to find where anyone had done this before. I'm sure it has been but I just couldn't find any silent ringtones to download.
Great idea jwbrint!
I have recorded silence in the past on old phones BUT it always makes SOME noise.
Will download this now - GREAT
This is a great forum. I just found it. I am retired (old) so bear with me if I am a little slow on some things. I just got a Samsung M520 with Sprint and I want to setup a genuine silent ringer. I downloaded the attached silent ringer from this thread but the format has to be changed to something I have never heard of. I will paste in a copy of a post that describes the way the ringer has to be saved/formatted.
Would any of you younger more tech savy users be willing to convert this ringer to the proper format and attach it here for me? I am going to copy it to my SD card and then move it to the Samsung so that I can assign it. On this Samsung the ringer needs to appear as a video and then the phone will allow assigning and moving it. I know it works that way because I created a "video ringer" using my camcorder feature and this phone will allow ringers if they are "cloaked" as video. Go figure!
Paste:
Change the profile at the bottom of your program window to 3GPP2 - 3rd Generation Partnership Project (*.3g2). Change the "Destination" textbox to the place where you want your ringtone to save to. If you wish to save the property settings and destination, you can click on "Save As..." to save the profile. Now press the "encode" button. Once it finishes, goto your destination and find the file you just converted. Make sure your file is under 512kb. If it is not, lower the duration, bit rate, or sample rate. You're almost finished.
Now you'll need to transfer the converted file onto your phone memory using one of the three ways mentioned in the beginning. It MUST be in the following folder: \DCIM\100SSMED\. Look familiar? It's the same place where you store all of your pictures and videos.
End of paste.
My computer is old -- 500 meghz with 200 meg of Ram so some of this video stuff is beyond its capabilities. I am on XP. I don't know of a software for doing these conversions that runs well on under 150 meg of Ram. Open to suggestions.
Sorry to beg but if you can attach this here I'ld be appreciative. The file size has to be under 500 K so feel free to shorten the ringer time if you need to. Thanks in advance.
I am going to reading around here alot for the next couple of days. This place is cool.
it's interesting how 30 seconds of nothing can be almost half a meg!!!

320k silence .
Hello Fellas, I happen to come across this thread. Okay, help me with this. A silent ringtone? Are you trying to avoid a call? I mean do you set a ringtone for everyone else? Not trying to make fun just trying to understand the rational.
It comes in handy if you have a particular person (or persons) who call you on a regular basis, but your phone cannot ring... like when you're in a meeting.
it also helps if you want to have an sms notification but not a phone call notification
Thanks!
Great help for wrong numbers.
I get calls from an old lady who cant figure out how to reprogram her speed dail.
thanks!~!******
Thanks
I just downloaded the silence...ahhh...and applied it to a friend who calls WAY too much each day. Now if I could just stop this person from leaving me 10 messages a day on voice mail, arg!
Thank you so much!! I've been looking for this forever!! It works so well ^^
Thanks for nothing!! LOL
This is a very useful alternative of using commercial programs that can auto silent the blacklisted people, etc.

Some call filtering applications are slow, so that phone still rings once before being silenced. SPB Phone Suite 1.3.1 is like this. If you know of one that does not have this problem, please share
And thanks to OP for the silent ringtone!
thx for sharing
awesome. thanks
The best ringer ever!
hey have or now of a ring tone changer for the touch pro one that you can give it folder with ringtone in it or audio and it will give you the option to change at random your ring tone and you can tell it to change like everyday or something like that

If you're going to make a smart comment about someone's English how about you don't mess up your own comment. I think you meant simply.
lol , damn missed that. But see I have no problem laughing about a simple mistake of missing an e for a y . My sentence was still understandable.
Now I do understand that there are people from all over the world coming here for info and to share what they have found. I can usually still make out what most poeple are looking for. I understand that most countries don't structure sentences like here in the US so somethings are understandable.
Here being nice......to OP
He is looking for a program that will change the ring tone randomly from files in a particular folder.
Wouldn't that really SUCK as an application? I mean imagine you've got specific ringtones for people set for when they call and bam all of a sudden this is completely undone. Would be pretty bad if you were picking up the phone thinking by ringtone it was your girlfriend and it instead turns out to be your boss?

Does anyone have the single chirp cricket notification sound? It's in some roms and not in others. I d/l all the audio zips I found here and none of them have the cricket sound. If no one has it, does anyone know how I can find the different sounds in a particular rom so I can grab it myself. Thanks.

What roms have the sound. I'll download the rom, extract the sound and post it for you if you don't know how to do it yourself.
Ughh. Of course you would offer to do it for me...problem is, I'm not sure which roms had the sound in it. Thank you so much for the offer. Do you know where in the zip file the notification sounds usually are, then I can do all the leg work myself, searching the roms. Or does it differ from developer to developer how the sounds are filed in the folders? I've searched around in a couple roms, and haven't seen any sound files.
I'm looking for this sound now
I finally found the sound...here it is.

Sorry, had to put it in a zip to be valid for the forum...
Last question. Do you know where I put it so that it shows up as an available sound to choose?

Sure, just put it in where ever you have music or make a new folder named sounds, then use an app called "rings extended", that will let you choose any sound for ringers and notifications.
hey guys, I really don't like the keyclick sound that is Default for the Captivate. I don't want to turn it off, I would like to find/use a replacement.
Can anyone tell me how to replace this sound file? Also were is a good place to find replacements?
I can tell you how, but not where to find a replacement.
1) Grab a terminal emulator or Root Explorer (I prefer Root Explorer myself for this one).
2) Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
3) If I'm correct in assuming that you mean the keyclick sound from browsing around menus and such in the phone then the file you want is "Effect_Tick.ogg"
4) Copy it to your sd card, and then to your computer and edit/replace it as you see fit. Just make sure it's the same audio length as the old one. Save it as an .ogg file or it won't work on the phone.
5) When putting it back onto the phone, make sure you make a BACKUP of the old one. Just rename the one that's already there with a ".bak" at the end. Then paste in your editing file.
6) Reboot and test it out.
Hope that works. I made that up off the top of my head cause I'm not about to try it out myself cause I turned the sound off in the settings. But it should work as that's the usual method of replacing any file on the phone. Good luck, let me know how it works out for you.
You are the man!!! That worked fantastic! I wasn't actually looking for the Effect_Tick, it was the TW_Touch sound that I wanted to replace, I found it in the folder by listening to them and figuring out which one it was.
THank you again, at least I know how to change something next time if needed
Wow, thank both of you. Never thought of changing the sound, but that would be hilarious to have a pew or pow sound. Think ofbeing a kid with two army men. Thanks guys.

Glad I could help. Also, FWIW, TW_Touch.ogg and Effect_Tick.ogg are the same sound. The only difference is the name, which actually makes TW_Touch a few bytes bigger.

Still trying to find some good ones. I am currently using the SIP.ogg sound found in the same folder as the others. Its more of a soft click sound. I am still looking for a really nice replacement though, so if anyone of you find one please share, as I will do the same.
You know the keyboard isn't making a click sound with Cog Rom. I wonder if its turned off somewhere in the ROM because I have keyboard clicks turned on but hear nothing.
I like to have regular dial tone for the dial key pad. Know how to fix this?
They are regular. The sound the same as every other phone I've used.
What do you really mean?
I used to have iphone 4 and the tone for each dial keypad little different sound

I would try and get them for you, but I haven't the slightest clue on how to convert the .caf file the iPhone uses to .ogg for Android. But looking around, there are some cool mods for dial tones out there. I found this one and now I want to do it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J4RfiTi08Q

I FOUND A WAY!!!!
If anyone can provide with me a copy of the iPhones dial tone sounds, I can format them for our Captivates. Based off of what I'm seeing from my iTouch, the directory layout should be /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. I need all the files that start with dtmf. There should be 12 files in total.
Edit: I did the Daft Punk mod to my phone and it works great! I'm attaching the zip with the .ogg files inside and already renamed so you can just drop them on the phone. Remember to back up the original!

HA. Wrong. These are in iPhone format and not for our phones. My zipfile is for our phones.
I was just linking to the sounds you were looking for.
Anyhoo for some reason my keys don't make any sounds when i press them, any idea why? Would love to replace the stock sounds with the daft punk ones.
edit: n/m fixed that, now to load those daft punk sounds
Beat me to the answer, it's a seperate setting in the Sounds Menu. But now you know that yourself. I'm probably going to make a tutorial thread for this elsewhere in the forums in case anybody else is interested
The sounds seem to be mixed up, they don't match the keys in the video, seems like he rearranged them after posting that zip file. Trying to sort them now but its a pita since mpc barely plays them.
I know what you mean. I didn't bother trying to put them in the right order. It's just fun trying to play the song.
And smeltn, I'm writing up my tutorial on how to change the dial tone sounds and whatnot now and I'm giving you credit for the idea. Cause if not for you, I wouldn't have even bothered to do any of this.

HAHA thanks. Its fun playing around with them now that we know what to do. I just can't wait to see other peoples sounds.
Recorded file of the ringtone I asked is attached.
It's in Messaging / Gmail / Email -Settings-Notification settings-Select ringtone-scroll up2top
u will probably see a "Default Ringtone". -- which is not listed in system settings-sounds-notifications.
A friend of mine asked me to send this ringtone to him, but rookie like me cannot find where the ringtone file actually is. ..... already tried /system/media/
well it may be stupid but can someone help me find it?
Seems that both froyo & gb roms contain this ringtone. Searched several pages for it but still got no answer.
From your home screen:
Press the Menu Button
Select Settings
Select Sound
Select Notification Ringtone
This is your Default Notification Sound. If you want your messages to make a different sound than the default notification that it uses for everything else (email, updates, etc.) you would change it in the menu you listed. The "Default Ringtone" is simply a pointer.
Thanks for reply but afraid it's not what I need. I know I can change it to everything else .
My point is to get this exact ringtone file --which sounds a little boring . /_\

Dude you are completely missing the question.
OP
I just looked in /system/media/sounds/ringtones
And notifications, I didn't find it either, but I don't have a "default ringtone" option at the top either...
But why do you need to extract it? You have the sound right there in your first post? Just convert it to .ogg format and drop it in your friend's phone where it should go...

sounds silly but I also like to find out.
I tried Serendipity_6.4 & continuum 5.41 they both have this default ringtone (difference is S has it as phone Ringtones, C has it as notification sound.
).
There are some posts here about people had set to another ringtone but sometime still heard this default one ringing , in lately builds of roms.
I notice the /system/build.prop does specify ro.config.ringtone and ro.config.notification_sound. Perhaps this would be the file name you're looking for.

Here is another twist for you. On Cog 4.4.2 my default notification is NOTHING. It doesn't make any sound at all.
All I can say at this point is to play every notification/ringtone file on your phone and see if you can find it.
