Manual Market Fix - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to manually fix the market issue with not being able to see protected apps. I have a friend who is running DamageControl v2.05 and he does not want to have to wipe his device to fix the market because the rom is running perfectly as it is now (other then the above issue).
I am pretty savvy with adb and linux shell. I just don't know where to start to address this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

moved this to q&a as its a question

why doesnt he just update to 2.08? i dont really think you have to wipe in order to update it. last i checked there wasnt any problems with the market.

No, it will not wipe it I have done it many times, it will retain all info & settings

China is blocking Market Downloads.. please help

Since I have upgraded to cyanogens 4.19 and later builds using the new market, It seems that 95% of my downloads are unsuccessfull. I am living in China and love my phone but can only deduce that China is blocking downloads. This occurs over both wifi and edge connections.
Any ideas how to get around this??????
If you have Amons recovery image just boot into the recovery image, click fix permissions and whatever else that says fix.
I think that has helped with some US people having similar problems with the market, not so much country.
Greetings ! I have tried running fix_permissions , with the stock fix permissions and the updated fix_permissions script with no success..
Thanks for your reply all help is greatly appreciated!

Hmm.. Well I know people have had that Cyan problem before with the market and I know there is a terminal script to fix it, but I'm sure it's pages deep buried in bull****.
So I'd suggest making a nandroid backup, then wiping and flashing to another build, I personally use a Soulife build and I love it, enjoy it more than a Cyan build. I'm still on 1.5 though and I don't really care. But yea.

Gmail Force Closes...HELP!!!!

Hi,
I have been reading on several forums that this seems to be a widespread problem and that the remedy is to go to Manage Applications in settings and delete the cache under Gmail and Gmail Storage. This sounds great in theory but guess what? My Gmail storage app has seemed to disappear. I have searched thouroughly and can only find the Gmail listed in Manage Applications. Is there an apk that I can download? Any thoughts on what I might have done to make my Gmail unusable? If it helps, I am using a rooted G1 with Cyanogenmod 4.2.3.1 installed. I had updated to his most recent rom but downgraded to the rom that last had working Gmail hoping that it would sort itself out but it hasn't unfortunately. This kinda sucks since I have changed most of my important addresses to Gmail and have no push through my phone. Thanks for any help.
Chris
I'm not sure as to why this happens becuase I never had the problem. I can tell you that downgrading your cyanogen build won't modify your broken gmail app because his builds don't include that particular app. That's one of the apps that get's pulled from the ADP image. So a quick fix would be to reflash the ADP image, and then apply the new cyan update. Just incase your not familiar with those steps, I'll include a link to his wiki with the steps outlined on how to do this.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
If you're familiar with using adb you might just be able to pull Gmail.apk & GmailProvider.apk from the ADP download or any other donut build that has those files and "adb push" them over to overwrite the ones on your phone that you're having problems with
That makes so much sense, that the solution went right over my head. Sounds like a solid plan and I will try it out as soon as I get home. Thanks soooo much for the suggestion, my G1 was only useful to play SNES games and watch South Park the last few days...lol.
Thanks again,
Chris
Worked like a charm after figuring out that in order to flash the image I needed to go back to the cm 1.4 revcovery in order to do so. Still don't know how the file got deleted but again thanks for the suggestion. I was about to chuck my G1 in the recycle bin...lol.

Market App

Hi guys,
I updated my g1 to CM5.0.7-ds and my market app is gone. So i figured out that I need to flash gapps and I did it. But after flash i get Gmail, Maps and New and Weather apps but again there is no Market. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Tnx in advance for helping me to solve this issue.
Try to wipe and reinstall.. wipe everything.

Yeeeesssss, I did it. I don't understand, I wiped everything and first time. Repeated procedure again and now it's working. Why that? Anyway, 5.0.7 is great. It speed up my G1. Thanks again for helping me...
If this will happen again, just reinstall GAPPS...i will search the link for you
*just a second*
...edit...
here it is
GAPPS Download
I try that, but with no luck. Only help was to reinstall whole CM and GAPPS... After that everything works like a charm...
well sometimes you can´t explain why things happen. it´s just because android ;D its wiping is the allround solution.
"It's just because Android". good point Good to know for that great solution

ATTN (cricket): READ BEFORE TETHERED UPGRADE to 2.2!!!

I've been seeing tonnes of people experiencing odd little problems/issues with their phones after upgrading to 2.2.
Im almost positive most of these issues are the result of trying to import data (whether system, or apk) from 1.6 to 2.2
This is exactly how I upgraded, and I have experienced ZERO issues!
PLEASE READ!!!
Before you Upgrade!
DO NOT USE EMULATORS OF ANY KIND (wine, boot camp, etc...) FOR TETHERED UPGRADE. THEY WILL NOT WORK!
Use a native windows system (32bit if you can)!
BACKUP AND FORMAT
--Use Titanium Backup to backup all your contacts, SMS, and apps (DO NOT back up apps DATA).
--BACKUP everything you wish to keep on your SDCard (titanium backup folder, music, pictures, BUT NO SPECIFIC PROGRAM DATA) to your PC.
--FORMAT YOUR SDCARD THROUGH ANDROID (menu->settings->SD card and phone storage-> format card)!! Be sure to UNMOUNT your card before doing so!!
PERFORM FACTORY RESET
--Perform a factory reset on your 1.6 phone!!
UPGRADE
--Once reset, THEN perform upgrade to 2.2 on your phone.
>> Link to upgrade instructions
A good summary on how to safely upgrade to v2.2. Thumbs up!
I had already updated the other day and have had several bugs/quirks and formatting the SD card really helped. Thanks again.
I was paranoid about this myself. Even though I had a full TI backup, I skipped it, cleared root on my sdcard, and installed everything from scratch after 2.2.
Worked well at the beginning, but after adding all the widgets I wanted, it's a little slow again, but better than before.
Just wanted to say I found the ZIO Update 2.2.1 here: h t t p : / / my cricket droid [dot] c o m/ " Seemed like all other links were dead.
Happy Hunting.
Sorry wouldn't let me post a URL
Unfortunately,
I failed to see this message beforehand.
I updated my phone without doing any prep work--
Now it's freezing up, I can't view my calls, messages.. all kinds of problems.
Do I need to go back and root it?
How do I do that?
Won't let me register on the site you posted Mysticwolf59

Mysticwolf59, WTF, that site won't let me sign up. Everytime I click that i'm older then 13 and hit continue it takes me to a all white page with (Access Denied) at the top left of the page.
Why is it doing that??? Also wanted to know if the download for the 2.2 rom upgrade is the Official one from Cricket?
Thank you,
TC

sorry Mattix724 for that, I have been all over this forum and didn't see anything yet on it. My other problem is I'm still having trouble with the touch screen being sluggish and on occasion not responding or missing or skipping letters when i type them.
I have also been looking all over this forum to find out if the upgrade has already been done on the phone if you can start from scratch by factory resetting the phone, formatting the SD card and re-installing the 2.2 upgrade over top the already upgraded Rom?
thank you in advanced and I appoligize if I post in wrong thread or something i'm new to forums and haven't quite figured this one out yet. I am slowly learning as I go though.
TC
I currently have the same update on my phone. If you encounter any trouble I can provide you with the updater I used since I do realize the link has been broken a few times already. Make sure your phone has USB debugging enabled and root removed before updating. Run the update on a 32 bit windows machine, in my opinion its better than trying with my brand new 64bit win7 laptop.

I un rooted my phone and turned it off and did the update. Now my phone just flashes a bright screen. It doesn't load anything but Fastboot. I could use some help with fixing this if anyone would love to explain what files I need and how flash 2.2 to my Bricked Zio on Cricket. For the record I am able to use the command prompt in Fastboot through my computer and do fastboot -w but that doesnt fix anything. I tried to update but am confused because it posts that txt files are missing. This is a nightmare and cricket wouldn't help me when I went into the store.

So I am replying to my own post as I dont wish to waste anyones time in trying to help me as I seem to have corrected it. What I did was boot into recovery using anreboot and cleared all caches including cache partition. Now I dont know if that was such a great idea, but it does not reboot on its own anymore. If this was windows I would not have any concerns but sadly it is not, and I have trouble grasping linux as I have been spoon fed windows my whole life. Not that particularly like windows, I actually hate it. I have no time to learn a new O/S as I have too much to do as it is.
Try to install GApps with CWM.
GApps from here.

I would reflash the rom completely again. Follow my tutorial fully and when done, wipe cache, and dalvik cache (which is under advanced). If installing apps still doesnt work, flash GApps using CWM. Hope this helps

If nothing works, try installing the Unofficial GAPPS Signed.
By example, CICI Rom have the same issues whit the apps related to google, such earth, viber, etc. And the only way to fix it, its installing the unofficial gapps, i cant post links because im new in xda, but try searching whit words "unofficial gapps" here in P970 forum.
PS: Sorry for my english....
