Hi, I've changed black housing on my magic for a white cover, I've got some problems with GPS and Bluetooth.
The first (GPS) doesn't work nothing, and the second (Bluetooth) sound very bad, I can't comprehend nothing about the conversation.
I don't know what is the problem maybe the antennas? somebody can help me please.
Greetings

it could be that the new one is from different matherials that somehow block the signal (iron threads , ferite threads...) , if you have the old cover you should check if the signal is better with the old one. If it is possible use the one from a friend ... just for tests ... its strange because the other ones sold should be tested to work with the phone....but it's all mass produced in China , so .... anything is possible
one more thing, do you use HTC stock ROM (vanilla) or did you flash some other ROM from this or any other forum ??
did you change the middle housing also? because you do know the gps antenna is a sticker stuck onto the middle housing you might have forgotten to take it off and put it on the new housing.

or in full
oscilators, condensators , ICs ... not likely to fit in a sticker
but as I said , maybe the new cover is from thicker matherial or some ferite-like one that chops the signals and they give bad reception (sending also).
Thank you for your answers.
I changed the front cover, the middle and back cover, also the leds, speaker and all keys.
The new housing is by TIM (Telecom Italia) could be the material as markojan says but I don't think so. I will try to change back all, and will tell you what happen.
Where is exactly the GPS antenna?
Thanks and see you
Both the GPS and Bluetooth antennas are in the sticker. Somtimes if you are not carefull peeling off the sticker from the old cover it could've damaged the copper etching which is in sticker which acts as antenna.
Try if you can get replacements (I didnt find any on a search). Alternatively try checking again and try replacing the copper with some aluminium foils used for packing foods. It should work fine.
Based on what you tell its certainly the antenna is damaged or not in 'contact' with board behind.
Good luck!
Problem solved, the gps and the bluetooth are working again. The problem was with the medium housing, the new one (white) has not got the two golden contacts, I supose this two contacts must be the antennas.
I've replaced the medium housing for the old black, and covered with front and back white covers.
Thanks

I was browsing screen protectors for my X1 on the BodyGuardz website, and stumbled upon this image of a "hole" over the camera button:

I automatically thought this would be another speaker, because the first speaker is on the bottom left, and the camera button is the bottom right.
Would this be one of the older/newer X1's, or a model from a different country? Or is it maybe an external microSD slot?

Hmm.. ok thats odd
Maybe its a prototype?
I inspected my x1 and see that up the camera button is a small plastic line that goes all the way as where that speaker is so maybe it was planned first but cancelled later?
I noticed that on my X1 as well.
And I agree -- it might have been previously planned. But I don't see why they would remove something as convenient as dual speakers. Even worse than not having an accelerometer in a device like this.
Very true
When I opened my X1 I noticed there was room for a second speaker. It does look like it was planned and then dropped. I'm not sure but I think the prototypes had an extra button and two speaker holes.

Great find, but my X1 (Singapore) set does not come with the Hole! It's a solid plastic with camera icon.

1. Why don't you just email THEM and ask ???
2. Why would anybody selling SCREEN protectors (in the front!) show the BACKSIDE of a phone???
Something smells 'fake' here!

Aha, so the only other option left is: write to them(!) and ask what phone, where to get and if that is a speaker, or 'Chinese Fake'

If you look at the image, you'd see the skin/protector already applied.
Maybe it's a dummy phone. So they don't need to buy a whole X1 just for advertising their skins.
Alright, so I have been fairly certain that I caused this problem but I wanted to make sure.
My gf dropped her HTC Vivid and broke the LCD and digitizer. I ordered new ones on ebay, both an LCD and digitizer, and installed them. The only problem is that after the installation the wifi and GPS on the phone were extremely weak. The wifi only works about 10 feet from a router, any further and it just doesn't show up. The GPS just says locking on target forever. I'm pretty sure the damage was caused by me and not by her dropping it, but I can't be sure. Wifi seemed to be working fine even with half the LCD and glass obscuring the view of android.
Even though I was pretty sure it was a hardware thing caused by me, I was scared to take the phone apart again after getting it all nice and put together so I tried unlocking, rooting, and installing CM 10.
CM10 works great, but the Wifi and GPS issues remain.
So I guess I need to take it apart again and put it back together very slowly and hope that this time any loose components or what not are put back into place properly....
Does anyone know where I can find any schematics online so that I can be sure to be EXTRA careful with the Wifi and GPS antenna? This way I can also inspect them to make sure they aren't damaged.

Tearing down the phone isn't the problem. I need to know exactly what is related to wifi and GPS to make sure I pay extra attention to those parts. I can't seem to find it yet.
edit:
I took the whole thing apart again, I put it together piece by piece very carefully following every breakdown and the Wifi and GPS are still incredibly weak and not working properly. Ideas?

Looks like BT+wifi share an antennae and GPS has it's own. Both towards the top. My guess is it's just a metal tab that makes contact by the pressure from the case, but I haven't had mine apart to confirm that.

Today, I saw this under the touchscreen. It looks like some dust or air bubbles, which are under the touch area, situated directly above the Tegra 3 CPU so can it have something to do with the heat, which come from the cpu? The phone is 1 month old (bought 21/3/2013). I'm sending the phone to reclamation (and want new piece), but I'm afraid that this can happen again.
Have anyone same problem?

I don't think they would have noticed if I had been a bit more careful. They use Philips head screws and no "VOID" stickers.
I actually kinda scratched the glass on the inside

Wow thats sucks guys, if any has or is gonna send it in with an unlocked bootloader i wonder if they will fix it. If any of these manufacturers would honor their warranties for non-software related issues with unlocked bootloaders id stick with them regardless.
I have the same problem, I am do not have official support from LG in my country

Hello I bought my one 2 weeks ago, and had been noticing some defects.
They are minor, and I really don't care that much... but it's funny how everyone said that the quality is better then the iphones...not mine.
Bougth mine in the store... here are some pics:
The sim slot looks like someone raped it, even if I was the first one to use it...

The top plate of the speaker is put on so clumsy... there is a bum in the middle of the white field and the right part behind the front plate is sharp and has a gap...
The phone is rocking when put face down... seen on the pic... If I force bend it the other way its ok for a hour and then back to this... (This is probably the most wtf thing since this is my most expensive phone and has this defect)
What do you think?
Overall its a great phone cant say that... just the quality is not impressive as it was said...

I only see 2 options:
1- That phone wasn't new when you bought it, even if it was in a sealed box. Pretty easy to seal a box and make it looks like it never had been opened.
2- You have damaged the phone yourself. (I do not think this is the case)
What I know is that it does not look like a new htc one at all. Maybe you got scammed??

Progress report:
The phone was sent to service the 2nd time...
First time the vibration motor died ( not my fault.. it overheated somehow)
Now the camera stopped focusing...blurry pics
Examle:
What im trying to say is that my phone has some serius quality problems becase i think that's not gonna be the last thing that will die on this phone...
in this thread i will explain how to make external GPS antenna for our OP without epensice costs (it costs me less than a dollar :fingers-crossed
im not responsible for damaging your phone if u try to follow this !!!
Materials:
*screwdriver (i used 3mm but 1.5 mm is optimum) (i bought 2 screws flat and crossed for 0.5 $)
*a piece of copper wire about 10 - 12 cm and thin diameter (i used a wire of my old damaged mouse) (cost nothing)
Procedures:
1-take of the 7 screws at the back.
2-with a flat screw ..... at the top right sider (at mp3 jack) enter the screw and rotate slowly and carefully and the plastic back will open clip by clip. (try to be careful cuz of weak materials). (after taking off the back cover take care of volume rocker button and lock button as the may fall and lost!!!!!) (take the battery off to avoid short circuits)
3-locate the GPS antenna terminal at the plastic back and at the motherboard (ignor the ground terminal)
{

}
4-at the plastic cover ...... put a piece of adhesive tape on antenna to be sure of its isolation
5-on the motherboard ....... put a piece of plastic adhesive tape on the marked area and pass the copper wire from the rubber piece as in the pic and make th wire get out at the area directly near the antenna (cuz it's opened at the back over)
6-reture the buttons in place and the back cover and tight the screws
7-cover the metallic areas over the SIM card and SD card and screw median to the camera by plastic tape to prevent touching of wires.
8-Now ............ u got the antenna :victory: :victory: :victory: :victory: :victory: >>>>>>>>>>>>u can bend it behind the battery cover but it won't make reception better as u thought >>>>>>>> OR >>>>>>>>>>>>> when u need it just take off the battery cover and get it out !!!!
