Radio question.. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys..
First of, im sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, i searched both forum, and google but couldnt get a clear answer.
I've been trying out different roms over the past few weeks.. a couple of days ago i tried flashing Cyano's 5.0.7.1 update.. but i think i might have gotten the wrong version.. at one point it started flashing radio, wich, i really don't have much experience with and therefore try to stear clear off.. after the radio update my n1 launched with an image of an android, and an arrow out of a box.. and it wouldnt do anything else.. efter 15 minutes with me sweating like a pig.. i booted.. i did nothing.. but was happy that i hadn't bricked my phone.. did a nand restore and decided to give the flashing a rest..
Yesterday however i wanted to view some mp4 video but no. apparently no player out there works for me.. sometimes it says cannot play this video (no matter which player i use) other times it starts playing but the screen is black, and only audio works.. i tried playing files that have previous been working for me with no luck.
So while googling i found this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687704
Wich explains that "the new" radio does stuff to mp4 playback... but i am unsure which radio version is "the new" if i am on the new radio, i guess that would be a fix for me right?
Details:
Current radio version: 4.06.00.12_7
Current rom: CyanogenMod-5.0.7_N1 -test2
Build number: EPE54B
Players ive tried: Meridian (all three versions)
mvideoplayer
Build in player
some other players i cant remember now.

if you have installed froyo at all in the past then your radio was updated to the newest one, which breaks video when you go back to old 2.1 ROMs. so roll back your radio to the previous version.

I havent.
Wich radio v. does froyo upgrade to?

Yes the radio version 4.06 you have is a Froyo version, you have to downgrade to 4.03/4.04. Then you're video will work OK again.

Radio version field blank

Hey,
I'm kinda new around here, and after a whole lot of reading, searching and browsing through the forums, trinityguides and personal blogs, i was able to flash my p3600 into a new rom (tnyynt's one).
However, I must have done something wrong. When I first updated the radio (to version 1.56.xx), although everything went by the book and the flash was successful, the version that the rom announced afterwards (at the time still the original wm5) was the old one (1.38.xx). Thinking it might be a rom issue, I flashed my p3600 with tnyynt's rom hoping that it would be fixed. It wasn't, it seemed still in the old version.
Then I tried again to upgrade the radio, only this time to 1.50.xx. Now the fields that should display the radio version appear blank, with nothing on it, though the phone and wi-fi capabilities work (haven't tested the rest yet).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for all the work being done here. I've discovered this forum only days ago and I'm absolutely dazzled by what's been doing here!
Cheers!
PS. An aside: can I use SDHC cards now? Is tnyynt's rom ready? :x Sorry for the long post...
Oh, I noticed now that the IMEI field is also shown as blank. Any ideas on what's happening? Should I reflash the radio again?
Cheers!

at&t tilt sound problem after incoming call

hi forum. i have been looking around to solve this problem but i wasn't able to find a solution yet so i am asking here.
i had a tilt working great, i had an accident and the phone is destroyed so i get another one.
it is the same phone but it just don't have the camera, this one came with a new version of windows mobile(6.1).
i am now having this issue, when i get an incoming call and i answer i can't hear anything from the other side and the other side can't hear me either.
after that, the phone gets totally muted, it don't make any more sound when sliding or whatever.
the only way to fix it is reboot the phone, that way i get sound again but after i get an incoming call the problem happens again.
the problem wasn't happening if i made the call but today i made a long call and after a while talking i got a constant buzz, the buzz only stopped after i turned off the phone.
any help will be apreciated as i am totally lost here.
thanks.
Have you tried flashing a different radio or a different ROM?
talking with my vendor it seems that he flashed the rom and maybe the porblem can be the radio.
i am reading here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182 but i dont have idea wich radio should i download and either how to make the installation.
my device information is:
ROM version: 3.57.502.2 WWE
Rom date: 07/17/2008
Radio Version: 1.70.OliNex
Protocol Version: 25.65.30.04H
so maybe the radio is not compatible with the rom and that is why i am having issues with the sound ?
That is a possibility. The nice part about flashing radios is that they are completely independent from the ROM. When you flash a radio it won't flash or reset your device. Therefore, you can flash and test as many radios as you want without any real negative side-effects Just stick with the one that ends up working the best for you!
Digital Outcast, thank you for your help.
do you think you or someone can point me to a tutorial to flash the radio only ?
i am finding how to update the rom but not the radio only.
thank you again.
To flash the radio follow the same steps as flashing the ROM. You need only the radio (.nbh file) and the Kaiser Custom RUU. Just don't do a hard-reset or anything after it completes!
cool, i installed a new radio and it fixed that problem, i am checking other common features of the phone, for now everything seems to be fine.
thank you very much for your help
Problem with incoming call
I have exactly the same problem and the same versions of software and firmware. Which version of the radio firmware did you install? Where did you get it? This is my first use of a smart phone and don't know much at all about where to get this.
Thanks!!

Start by reading the stickies. Always best place to start. Or if you are lazy and wish to just jump to radios use this >link<. But I definitely recommend you read all the stickies before flashing a device for the first time. Just start with the newest radio and work backwards til you find a good one for your device.

notification light

I searched around the forums (LOVE THEM!) and couldnt find the answer so I figured it was okay to ask the question
The notification light on my G1 never turns off, it's always set to show the battery status instead of blinking with a missed call/txt/whatever
ideas?
please post your current ROM, Recovery, SPL, Radio, whether or not you use apps2sd...and anything else that we may need to know to diagnose your problem. Thanks...

This happened even on the stock rom, after I wiped everything clean and rooted... and when I flashed the newest Cyanogen
I've looked around and found no mention of this issue anywhere on any forum that I saw
T-Mobile G1
ROM: Cyanogen 4.1.999
SPL: Hard SPL
Radio: ... I havent touched this? Im not evne too sure what it is, so im assuming default/stock ota? how do I check
Recovery: RA-dream-v1.2.3

if you dont know... you should update to the 26I radio
it can be found in the bootloader (cam+power)
for the us g1, last two digits are usually 29 or 26. (26 is the latest)
you can also find this info in the about phone section in settings under baseband
if its happening on the stock rom too, its probably a hardware issue. you wouldnt happen to have any apps that would mess with this setting, would you?

yup I had the 26... what exactly is the radio?
but yea, It happens all the time when im flashing, when im in the spl... whenever
the radio manages all the wireless stuff in the phone such as the phone itself, bluetooth, wifi..etc
it also calls the spl, which loads the whole phone up
if its happening all the time, its a hardware issue and you should contact tmobile and see if they replace it. if so, unroot your phone before sending it in
im thinking this has to be some sort of software issue because it works for battery/charging/whatever... and apps can have their notification pop up over the steady green light
well then its an app. go back to complete stock and see if the problem persists. remove all your applications, and go to the stock RC29 image, update to 1.6 OTA and see if it still happens.....
does the light stay on in the recovery (Home+power) or bootloader mode (cam+power) when your phone is not charging? if it does.....its a hardware problem

How to Update Radio

First of all I would like to say sorry for the pretty noob question, but I can't seem to find complete information about this. I am using Cyan 5.0.6-N1 ROM and am having problems with my BT connection to my headset. I have checked the headset against other phone and it seems the problem is with my N1. I was considering updating my radio version, since I know from winmo experience that the radio part is responsible for BT, WiFi, 3G signal etc.
The question is how to upgrade the radio ROM, since I couldn't find a pretty clear procedure (yes, i looked on xda, as well as google) and some compatibility list. As far as I understood, the worst one can do about N1 is to upgrade the ROM to an incorrect version against the SPL installed. This can brick your phone, according to this thread.
When looking in my N1 at settings, I can see:
baseband version: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
kernel: 2.6.33.2-cyanogenmod
mod version: CyanogenMod-5.0.6-N1.
I assume the baseband version contains the radio version, at least this is my understanding. How do I know what other radio version I can install in order not to brick my N1 and, hopefully, solve my BT problem?
thanks,
ionutz6
PS. If you think this has been answered already, a simple link to the solution is enough for me.
Download this RADIO
Place it on your SDCARD
Reboot into recovery and flash the zip file... reboot phone and you're done.
I saw that newer radio and I decided to flash after reading this thread and when the phone rebooted it went to an screen that showed a box with an arrow and a little android, the phone then rebooted and went straight the recovery menu.
Then I wipe cache, dalvik and battery starts and rebooted the phone one more time after that and the phone started normally. (Got scared at first when I caw the box and the Android)
Thanks a lot!!

[Q] an idiot newbie desperately in need of help

can anyone advise if there is a stable froyo rom on here in 'zip' format
that does not need any radio/hardspl/ or recovery tweaks beforehand ? (hopefully with GPS, BT, Wifi, Camera etc working)
I genuinely have sweated blood over the last 3 days trying my best.
I have read all the guides, tried using ADB, Fastboot, Terminal Emulators etc
and for various reasons have always managed to crash and burn.
I really was after Lazlo's Froyo, but could not even get the Radio and Hardspl he advised on to the phone !
in desperation. I tried it anyway, and was very close to bricking the phone.
(thankfully though the help on here got me out of being stuck in fastboot)
I failed, even with the guide below ... as it said no room on device !
http://www.webnetta.com/2009/01/02/t-mobile-g1-rc30-to-jfv13/
I plead for a simple zip that I can apply via clockwork as I can manage that method ok.
I have found loads of zip files here:
http://www.filecrop.com/android-2.2-froyo-G1.html
would any of these be of help
anyone ?
thanks in advance
First of all what is your current state on the G1? (IE: SPL, radio, etc...)
And do you really want the froyo ROM to be loaded on your G1 only, or any would do to get your G1 up and running?
thanks for the response ...
the phone is currently running ok on the original 1.6 rom, but I had managed an spl update on it.
fastboot shows:
Dream 110 PVT 32B
HSPL.95.3000 (was hboot 0.95.000)
CPLD -4
Radio 2.22.19.261
Oct 20 (28?) 2008
in settings:
Firmware version 1.6
Baseband version 62.505.20.17U_2.22.19.261
Kernal version
2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37
[email protected] #19
Build number
DRC92
I don't know if all this is original as the Lazlo rom seemed to go on via clockwork,
but then hung, and somehow I got back booting to 1.6
ideally I would like to get Froyo on it
Have you look at [ROM] Froyo 2.2.1 for T-Mobile G1 " Froyo for Trout! " F4T1.8.2 (01/19/2011). You will have to load the SPL and radio that is related to the ROM. And it's Froyo.
sadly that was the one I previously went for.
I did the sdcard ok, but could not get the radio & spl images flashed to phone with either adb or emulator whatever I tried.
usb drivers are on ok, I have the sdk, and despite showing up in windows device manager, and connecting fine when mounted,
adb will not connect to device.
if this Radio and the SPL were available in zip, rather than .img format I could succeed.
I have really browsed all the roms in the Rom Bible link, but cannot find one that does not require these type of fixes.
I was having the same problem with mine the other week. I could not use the img file so I had to mannually search for those zip files.
Afterward this is what I found. See if that helps.

the links unfortunately give me a 404 !
John Denver once sang
'Some days are Diamonds, some days are Stone'
with my luck lately I suspect I was born in a quarry !
@beandroidized
maybe it was a diamond quarry after all !
I got the filenames (radio-2_22_27_08-signed.zip & hboot0013d-signed.zip)
from those dead links, put them into google and got them both via Mediafire !
so thanks a lot there my friend,
I'll have a go at flashing both, and the Laslo rom, tomorrow afternoon and will let you know how I get on.
regards,
Kevin
Good for you. And you are welcome. Good luck.
