Hey, I have an AT&T Tilt with the latest official ROM installed on it, and when I used to type using the on screen keyboard and the slide out keyboard it used to give me suggestions of word to complete after one or two letters. Now all of a sudden it doesn't, the option is still selected in the input settings, but it still doesn't do it. It's really bothering me because I'm so used to using it. Please Help. Thanks.
No one? Is there a fix for this at the moment?
I've read a lot about the HTC_IME keyboard on this forum and really want to install it on the G1, but I've read conflicting reports about it causing conflicts with the G1's physical keyboard. Is that true, or can some G1 owners confirm that the HTC virtual keyboard works without conflict?
NO i use it on cyanogen rom, first get the files needed onto your sd.Turn off android input in local, then use astro to install ime then the clicker.apk, finally goto settings->locale turn on new input setting, reboot.
I use it sometimes can be tricky to get in but it is some much better than stock.
it CAN cause conflicts, but they do work together well. i have an unthemed version of HTC_IME and i have them both turned on so that when the keyboard pops up, you see the android VK instead of the HTC_IME keyboard, and it still uses all the functions of the HTC_IME. (honestly i dont like the way the HTC_IME's keys look so cluttered with numbers and symbols, but i love the user-dictionary functions and such. )
Anyway right when i made the switch to donut i had a problem with it when i tried to calibrate the HTC_IME keyboard without having the clicker.apk installed, continuous loop of FC's of the HTC_IME and i had to go all the way back to cm-4.1.11.1 and then flash back to 4.1.99 THEN back to the latest to get everything back to normal again. but since then i havent had a single problem with it, and they both work perfectly together...

the only "conflict" i've had with HTC_IME and the physical keyboard was when i was typing on the physical keyboard, it made the sound it makes when i type on the VK. not sure that's really a conflict though.
The only problem I've encountered with the HTC IME on my G1 is that when I touch the screen with the keyboard open, the soft keyboard's suggestion thing comes up when I start typing again. It goes away once you close & open the physical keyboard, though.

Yup this and the one above is the "conflict" that is widely known. its more of an annoyance
Thanks all for the input. I've searched and read through a lot of threads on this forum about installing the HTC VK, but there seem to be a lot of different installation procedures out there.
What would be considered the safest/easiest procedure for someone who is a novice with modding Android?
I've modded phones before, but that was only flashing feature phones with generic unbranded firmware...I've never done anything with Android. In fact, I've never even plugged in my phone's USB cable. If someone could post or link to the best installation procedure for the HTC VK I'd appreciate it.
EDIT: I'm running the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM if that matters.
Download the files from this thread and use AppInstaller from the Market. I'm just going by what other ppl have said in that thread so I cant guarantee anything w/ that app, I used adb to install the IME on my phone.
*EDIT* Also, just found this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/How_to_install_HTC_Keyboard.

That does sound annoying. Does the conflict go away if you go to Settings and switch back to the Android keyboard? Or is the issue there whenever the HTC VK is installed?
Yes it can be annoying when suggestions pop up when using the physical keyboard w/ HTC IME, just don't tap text entry fields when using HTC IME, use the trackball instead. Probablem solved. Just install it. You can go to settings > Locale and switch to the google IME whenever you want.

Only when HTC IME is enabled.
I got it installed and it's working beautifully!
Thanks to HTC for creating it, and to Cyanogen for making it available!

ya this is what i do. i like having this vk over any other vk because its accurate.... i dont always wanna open my phone lol.
I'm actually not having that problem. My issue is a little different.
Even though I have auto spelling correction enabled for the device keyboard, auto correction isn't actually working. This has been the case ever since I installed and switched to the HTC virtual keyboard.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or is this one of those things I'll have to live with?
what rom are you using it on?
This is the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM.
I have a 1.5 Dream & no prob with HTC_IME! Just looking to go up to 1.6 now!
hi, i have the icedhoneybun rom . i still have issues with the slow texting response. i will text a wrod as "hello" and i will hit the "hel" and then the phone will begin to type the words. it is annoying and get confusing when i am trying to type because the phone will assume i am holding down a word to get the other input like the number 1 . will overclocking fix this problem ? does anyone know which ROM has the fewest problems? i do not use twitter or face book or finger prints or any social apps
thank you for any help you guys can give.
I just switched from dc2.8 to darch's newest ROM. So far not a single problem, except for accessing a wap site but I doubt that's the ROM's fault. What text program are you using? Also what keyboard? Swype beta is open to everyone now I think, look into that also.

i have the stock htc verrrry lagggy keyboard
Hi I have the iced hunybun Rom and have the hero HTC stock keyboard. I have tried swype but I don't like it. It give misspellings a lot of the time.
Turn off vibration?
I prefer regaw mod... the best one out of all I have tried. Stable, everything works, and good on battery.

darch droid is the best bet. FAST!!!
hi regawmod and darkdroid?
Hi what forums can I find the links for these. Roms? I have tried the blue eco. And still very slow in texting and web page input in the URL or this forum
Right now Ian using buffed with the overclocking and removed haptic response and vibration. And still a lagging keyboard. I don't like swype and yes swype lags as well
I have the AOSP Voice keyboard. It looks like the swipe keyboard with a voice input button. It has been the best keyboard I have used so far. This should be the link:

Try blue echo again. I just released a new build and will have one final update tonight. Just remember to change the keyboard out to the android keyboard and its extremely fast
The android keyboard is significantly faster than the HTC keyboard. If you're looking for less lag, ditch the HTC keyboard. Darchdroid types very well from my experience.
Hiho, i've searched already if i can find a thread like this, but i didn't.
So for my and maybe your interest, which Keyboard do you use?
Samsung, Gingerbread, Swype?
Thanks
p.s. the version depends on the choseable keyboards, because on below 2.3 you dont have Gingerbread Keyboard...
SlideIT on 2.3.3
Since getting my SGS, always used Swype. Tried using the GB keyboard but just keep going back to Swype.
I don't use any of the above mentioned keyboards. I use Better Keyboard 8.
I use the Samsung keyboard that's enough for me
Gingerbread keyboard is available for 2.2

I also vote for swype.
I like the suggestions from the gingerbread keyboard though, the swype suggestions dialog is really obstrusive, that's the only thing I've got against it.
But I keep going back to swype since it predicts what I want to write with great accuracy and I end up writing a lot faster with it.
BTW my main language is spanish, and it works like a charm with it.
Swype all the way. Haven't even tried any other keyboard yet.
It's so convinient
Swype 2.3+ , i get annoyed when i flash roms and the samsung kb is there.
can't beat swype i reckon, using a normal touch keyboard to press every single button is so tedious now and swype is way faster once u get used to it
Smart Keyboard Pro with personnal skin
I'm in love with swype, it's the best keyboard I've ever used. One thing I didn't like with it, it saves every entry I tap, other than this I'm so happy with it

i thought samsung keyboard is really fast but ill test swype now too... this popup often bothered me in typing very quick, but maybe after learning many words it'll be quick
thx to all =)
I use swype. Nothing quite as satisfying as swyping out your whole email address in less than a second
It's also great for making sure nosy people can't peak at your passwords when you have trail off.
I've used HTC IME for ages on my phones and haven't found a keyboard I like better. But I can't get it to work properly on my Nook Color. I tried both the high and low resolution version, but both are too small and don't fill up the side to side when you use it in portrait mode.
Anybody that knows how to get HTC IME to work properly on the nook?

I too liked the HTC IME until I tried, well, several different keyboards.... It's really not that good, just better than stock 2.1.
Each keyboard I tried was incrementally better. Swiftkey X is my current favourite keyboard, been using it for about 6 months now.
For tap type keyboards I can't really grow to like any but the HTC keyboard on my EVO, but I'm a Swype person. For my Nook I chose to use Thumb Keyboard because I can choose how best to use all this screen real estate.
Sorry I don't have an actual solution to your issue.
edit: I just happened to discover the HTC keyboard that comes with 3.5 has a Swype like function I am perfectly ok with this.

I'm actually using swiftkey now, and I was surprised how similar it is to to HTC IME. But I still miss how you could customize HTC IME however you wanted. On swiftkey for example, it annoys me to no end that you can't use landscape without ending up in a fullscreen window(you don't see the UI of the browser of whatever app you're in, but just a white screen). In HTC IME you could change that setting.

I never had a HTC phone, but if the keyboards are as good as HTC IME(I guess it's based on some HTC keyboard...) then they must be good. Thumb keyboard looked interesting.
Although there is a similar setting in swiftkey if you have the tablet version.
