Phone Won't Boot In Overclock Mode - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello --
I have come across an issue that, as far as I have looked, doesn't have a dedicated thread. I've seen a few people with similar issues, but wanted to post a dedicated thread so that all of us can try to get some help. Thanks in advance to those that are willing to help
Down to business...
For the life of me, I cannot get my phone to boot an overclocked ROM. I've been mostly running DC roms, so, naturally, when the the .29 OC'd kernel was released, I flashed it. It threw my phone into a wicked loop where it wouldn't boot past the black-and-silver HTC screen.
Out of pure curiosity to see how an OC ROM would perform, I tried a number of other ROMs that advertised that they were OC'd. Every single one of them puts my phone into the same boot loop.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how I might be able to approach getting this fixed? I am at a total loss. Could it be a possible hardware issue?

I and others have had the same issue. I subscribe to the thread for the kernel in hopes that the issues will be solved.

I also had the same issue,
But then I flashed the recovery image from the darchdroid thread and
it booted right up, I'm wondering if it was an issue with godspeed or something.

Interesting. I think I tried that recovery image yesterday before I flashed and rooted the official 2.1. I wonder if that recovery image will still work...?

I dunno, the penultimate update worked in 1.6.2 (And I was like "HOLY CRAP I HAVE AN OC/AOSP ROM??? DDDDDDDDD"), and then the most recent worked in godspeed. I don't think it's a recovery issue. :/

Well if you want a thread like this then in order to try to find the culprit I would list all available info.
----------------------------
Hero Hardware version: 0002

CYAN 3.6.2, trouble with scrolling?

First off, let me apologize, if this is the wrong place to ask, I checked for a dedicated thread for cyanogen 3.6.2, but didn't see anything, at least not in the recent pages.
Be that as it may, here's my problem: I'm running an imported US G1, on the orange Siwtzerland network. I recently rooted my phone and flashed the cyan 3.6.2 rom to it. While I'm very much impressed at the added functionality, I'm having trouble with vertical scrolling (mainly in long list-like pages, in the browser, market or twidroid). The screen seems to 'hesitate' and 'catch' when I try to flick it with my finger. Sometimes it then starts moving, sometimes it flashes down to the bottom of the page at very high speeds.
I never had this trouble with the stock 1.5 f/w, and I'm wondering if this is a known drawback of cyanogen 3.6.2, and if so, which other release the experts would recommend.
For sake of completeness, here's the exact version numbers off my phone:
Model number: Android Dev Phone 1
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-cm [email protected]
Mod version: CyanogenMod-3.6.2
Build Number: dream_devphone-userdebug 1.5 CRB43 148830 test-keys
dude...why the hell are u still wit 3.6.2? where have u been...3.8 and 3.9.5 are rolling along...
So which would you recommend? I was under the impression that the 3.9 releases were still pretty unstable, maybe I'm mistaken.
I have no use for A2DP, so that's a non-issue. What I need mainly is a smoothly working UI (no hangs or freezes).

And where is it?
Looks like they unstuck the thread in the Development section that had the link in it since the OP was no longer updating it.
But, here it is:

Is that official radio for the nexus one? How do I install it? No instructions anywhere.
i too would like to know how to install the froyo radio. ive had froyo installed since the end of may and getting tired of not having the video codecs. ive tried flashing the radio from the custom recovery and it "verifies" the file then immediately says that it has been installed. when i restart the phone via recovery. it comes up with the droid "hoping" out of the box, not falling out. and then goes back to the recovery menu, i power off then back on and android loads, when i check to see if it has updated, it still says i have 32.19.00.16U_4.02.02.14
trying to update to 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
What am i doing wrong?
according to RoDrIgUeZsTyLe i should install the radio first then the rom i have. im really trying to not have to wipe and start over again.
Please make a Nandroid backup of your current System before install !!!

lagtest.apk 30-60-60 fps is there a fix????

Hi I´m sure most of you are aware of this problem, the unstable fps after 2.1 update I installed the dexter froyo rom hoping i would finally be able to fix this issue but to my surprise the problem remains.
I´m aware that changing the governor on set cpu from on demand to performance it helps a bit but i still see the stuttering playing mostly emulators !
I´m running at 800 mhz and I still have drops from 60 to 40 fps constantly.
Is there a fix for this that i´m not aware of ?
Pls help !
Motorola is aware of the problem. I think, it's a kernel related thing, but i don't know exactly. The fact, that the framerate dropped, is known so far:
There's also a thread at motorola discussion boards:
http://community.developer.motorola...-Milestone-2-1BUG-major-2D-slowdown/td-p/5719
So, the thing is known. And it was promised to be fixed with froyo. but it seems not to be fixed i don't get any solution for now. i'm searching a few days also now.
yeah i was aware of that post and the being investigated situation by motorola ..... motorola europe does a lot of research but real work not really ...
the new update of 2.1 that is currently rolling out fixes this problem??????

Thats because we can only use the 2.1 Kernel at the moment.
I´d rather use the 2.01 since i could play most emulators perfect ....
Is there any way to downgrade it using open recovery ?

you may downgrade your phone to 2.0.1 flashing a full sbf file from here (e.g.)
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone
remember to use a FULL sbf not a service sbf.
I tried it yesterday and my 2.0.1 milestone gives me at stock 60 FPS with fps2d!!! dexter's frenzy is not fixing this problem

bad link? (10 chars)
The link is not broken, works fine for me
Another link to Google Code: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7520 i've bumped the thread. perhaps, someone can tell us, what has been changed to fix the 30 FPS issue and i HOPE this is not a motorola kernel fix (some module changes) - cause 2.0.1 and 2.1 use both 2.6.29 kernel.
EDIT: @silico: no, it should not pend on the kernel. i just flashed my milestone with 2.0.1 and after flashing that fresh full sbf (with 2.0.1 kernel) i restored nandroid frenzy v 0.5 (which is not changing the kernel at all) and ran into the same problem: after restoring dexter's frenzy, the framerate dropped again to 30 FPS on stock clock!
here is a patch library which might work fine on regular stock firmwares too, but its not tested much..but results are 60fps+ now even on 550mhz
update-script fixed

They use the same kernel ? Where did you saw that?
I´m using the GOt´s modified sbf for uk and the problem remains !
If I downgrade the sbf to 2.01 i gain the stability for the 60 fps but what are the disavantages of using 2.01 ?
And you also say after using 2.01 sbf and recovering moto frenzy image you went back to 30 fps, so where is the problem in the kernel or in the image ?????
If you are using motofrenzy image now if you downgrade to 2.01 after the image is already in use the problem remains???
Thanks dexter for the reply ! Are u gonna include that on your image soon?
How do I apply it? to a stock image can anyone help me?

just use "apply update" or you copy the lib yourself directly into the /system/lib/hw folder manually.. (gralloc.omap3.so is the name of the file)
the first update-nosign.zip was messed up, please make sure you have the last one i uploaded now..

I´ve just applied it it didnt´t worked.
the problem persists and it messed up my graphics !
I´ve just loaded your image and applied this update it messed up my graphics exactly the same way !!!
Its like i´m seeing artifacts.
I copied it manually to my phone with 2.1u1 and it fixed the 2d slowdown problem but it does mess up the main GUI, the emulated games run perfect though, only emulator menus have the same problems the main GUI has, ingame they are perfect!
Super smooth like in 2.0.1 but able to overclock
okay. the lib from dexter is from droid 2 and it seems, there are some sync problems. this causes the glitches on the screen. yes, 60FPS are back, but which price?
so i started a thread in cyanogen forum, asking for the libs from CM 6 RC3 to be used to crack that 30 FPS cap.
I tried the libs from the CM6RC3 and that does not solve the issue
Anyway lets wait and see what happens.
We are a bit closer already, I can play my emulators at full speed

which libs did you try? i already tried only changing gralloc.omap3.so, but same result, as yours. i wonder, how cyanogen fixed that cap ...
I tried gralloc.omap3.so and gralloc.default.so but that got me the low fp/s again...
Strange that they fixed it in another way then...
Would it be possible to use gralloc.omap3.so from a milestone 2.01 rom. The bug was also pressent in 2.0. But they fixed it in 2,01. Maybe they just accidently used the bad libs again in 2.1.
If i use the files from my 2.0.1 release it wont boot anymore...

same here. also tried other libs together (from 2.0.1), as all under /system/libs/hw and
- libpixelflinger.so
- libpvrANDROID_WSEGL.so
- libskia.so
- libskiagl.so
- libsurfaceflinger.so
and from egl:
- libGLES_android.so
same: stuck at motorola bootlogo
done for today ... too much nandroid restores

[Q] Rooting a G1 running Android 1.0?

A while back I rooted my G1 which was running 1.6 and I successfully rooted and installed cyanogenmod. I wasn't impressed with the battery life so I decided to switch roms. I did something wrong and my phone pretty much reverted back to unrooted Android stock 1.0. That was a while back and I have been pretty much hanging with it since. I could do generic things such as send and receive calls, send text messages, play music off sd, etc., but I'm tempted to find a way to root my phone again and with a diff rom. Is there a way to do this with android version 1.0? Can I also do this without a data plan and just wifi?
Here are the specs for my G1 if anything:
Firmware Version: 1.0
Baseband Version: 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
Kernel Version: 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #6
Build number: kila-user 1.0 TC4-RC29 115247 ota-rel-keys, release keys
forget it. I got cyanogenmod up and running. Close thread.
Before this is closed, try out the Froyo for Trout rom. Its stable, and faster than CM. Really recommend this.
Anything will be better off than CM (that from my experieces) But the new CM (XDA Mod) is promissing.
@ TheIneffable - I would suggest (if you still wants to use CM) to look at [ROM] NameLessFroyo (CyanogenMod variant) by NLJ or [ROM][2.3.7 GB][18.10.11] BananaBread v1.2 DS +cMTD(Based on CM 7.1) by banana4444.
But if you would like to try other ROM, I suggest [Rom][2.2.2 AOSP] DREAMteam Froyo v1.9 "I'm hungry...." by DreamTeam (AKA:Green ROM Projects) or FroyoMelt (see my sig for link) also by DreamTeam (with Customization by ldrifta).

I9000M Bell Vibrant Cyanogenmod

This noob successfully rooted his Vibrant thanks to some key members here. Now I need your help for another matter. I installed Cyanogenmod 7 nightly and it worked! I did it this way: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/cyanogenmod-7-cm7-samsung-galaxy-s/
The only problems that I'm having now is:
1)ClockWorkModRecovery does not want to reboot so I can't install anything else to it, which brings me to
2)I can't install Google apps like the Market. I went through this procedure:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHgZNnHdrSA and it only took me so far. It came to the home screen and it said that the widget had a problem loading. I couldn't get it to reboot and install after that. Please help - once again.
3)Should I flash another base band version? I know you guys were telling me to get the UGKG3
Latest info on the phone:
Android version: 2.3.7
Baseband version: I9000XXJVK
Kernel version: 2.6.35.14-g7a2264a [email protected]#1
Mod version: Cyanogenmod-7-11162011-NIGHTLY-Galaxy S
Build number: GWK74
Please and thank you guys.
Update:
So I switched to the Stable version. I'm not sure if this was the right move, but help me out here. the only thing that's changed is:
Kernel version: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1
mod version: Cyanogenmod-7.1.0-Galaxy S
The only problem now is that the market app is there, but whenever I search and am about to download an app it has to force close because of unstable behaviour. So now I can't get any apps even though the market app is there...
So I tried Cyanogenmod 7 and even though it was blazingly fast and fun to play around with, I decided to go back to Stock gingerbread. Why mess with something that ain't broke, right? Regardless, it was a great learning experience and I encourage any wannabe enthusiast to try it out. I found out it wasn't for me and that's ok. Thanks to the guys here for your help. I'll try other things. Later.
