ReLock Bootloader - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How come you can't just find the .img of the unlock sign and just DELETE it?

really? if it were that way, don't you think it would have been done already?
if i remember right, the lock is not a separate image. i think its additional data that is attached to the four colored cross image and the extra data is only read and displayed after you unlock.

Yes I know its not that easy, I just wanted an explanation

The explanation is - this lock is nothing and meaningless, getting rid of it gets you nowhere - still, when booted into recovery, the phone reads "UNLOCKED" in capital pink letters. And you can't do a thing about it, since it looks to be in HW (might be a fuse, for example).
How come you didn't search before posting?

Android File Manager

Its out now, anyone seen it yet?
This should help out a lot...hopefully next we can move apps to the mem. card.
just found that you can view the app data by going to system and then to apps.
you think if we were to make a app folder on the mem. card they would run? im going to play around and see what happens
well the manager at the moment only lets you view the files. I have tired multiple times to cut and paste program files onto the mem. card but with no luck. possibly the second file manager program will have all of the bugs out of it.
but....
do you think if we had a system/app file on our mem. card the phone would pull the apps off of our card? just trying to get things rolling here so we can get everything FINALLY on our cards and stop wasting all of our phone memory.
THANKS
I don't think so... but could be wrong. I noticed the card only has "media" folders nothing yet is stored on the card really.
ya i noticed that as well....hopefully this is a step in the right direction. once we can actually view ALL files and are able to move things around then things should start to get interesting.
what if we were to somehow make a shortcut to tell the phone where the app is? so only the command to the app on the memory car would be on the phone. it would be a VERY small size file on the phone compared to the entire app...think this may work?
I doubt we can ever be able to move or view all files. Google set it up so our version is locked down and no one can get root access.

True words. Sometimes I think that openness and mobile operators are two incompatible things. You should be watching the presentation of G1 organized by T-Mobile. All was going good until the audience was able to ask questions. The questions were about operator restrictions on the device and locking. The general mood of the presentation went down after it...
With the source code available, can't the developers just compile a new version of the software to run on the G1 which is not locked by the operator/carrier?
Don't know much about developing but just wondering what it is that really stands in the way?

A good developer that knows what he/she is doing is what is standing in our way. This is all new so it will take time for developers to first look at the code and start building. And more time to perfect their talents on this new device and OS.
I'll give props to this program for it's functionality that should have been native.
At work I had a customer who had a bad version of a ringtone he made with Ringdoid and needed to delete. Aside from refer him to edit the SD via USB (which I cannot even do yet w/o swapping devices).
I had him d/l the Android File Manager and use that to locate and delete. Made it easy and only took 2 mins d/l time included.
Based on the good start, this might become the default file manager I use once more options become available within it. (especially the open ability - and a select all would be nice).

Selling a G1 - how to remove personal settings w/o ...

wiping everything? It was a lot of effort to unlock it, flash a custom rom and get everything working so if I put it up for sale locally I'd like to be able to demo some cool programs and features and possibly pull my sim chip and hand it over.
I realize that my purchased apps are probably not transferable but is it just a matter of entering a new Gmail account to sync with? I don't actually sync my mail, only contacts but I'd like to know how to clear things like the call log, etc.
Thanks,
Terry
p.s. the phone is lovely and I'll probably never use even half the features but it doesn't make a very good e-book reader. Unless there is a way to remap the keys? In portrait mode I find pushing the screen up very annoying - it hides the text and in open keyboard mode the key substitutes for page down don't work in the reader programs I've tried.

Wiping the phone will not remove the rooted ROM. It will just delete the apps/settings, which whoever get's it can download from the marketplace anyways.
the easiest way would be to wipe it, but you can always go to manage applications and clear the cache of each app(might take a while but should work). and then you can go to your call log and hit menu to clear the log out, and the same with SMS. should work but since i would just wipe it myself idk.
p.s. wiping wouldn't get rid of the custom ROM you installed, and it shouldn't get rid of the SIM unlock
I didn't think wiping would mess up the custom rom or the unlock - I was mainly thinking about how much work it was to get everything to this point, including the installed apps. I paid for them, I may as well use them until I sell it and that they would make a good sales prop doesn't hurt. But if they disappear when the unit is wiped, that wouldn't be my first choice of how to go about it.

[Q] Halp! Screen Completely Broken, Need advice on unrooting

Hello all,
so I was living the life with my new rooted nook color, when suddenly i pulled it out of my pack and found the entire screen was dead. There is a black blotch at the bottom so i am quite certain the LCD is cracked and not coming back.
SO now I THINK I desperately need to unroot. I am VERY scared of doing this with NO screen though. Do you think I even need to unroot, as you can only really see splotches of color when the NC is turned on? Can anyone give me some advice as to a good SAFE way to get my nook back to a state that i can send it into barnes and noble (i have the extended warranty so they will cover ONE damage replacement)?
I wouldn't worry about it. Somebodies going to pull it out of the package, see the screen and toss it on the pile. *If* it is refurbed it'll be wiped and reloaded as a matter of course.
Thanks for your reply. Yeah its pretty hard ro tell that anything has been done to it. When it boots up a solid flickery green bar (which would have been the cynogen logo) goes across the whole screen. Other than that its basically just dark. I don't know, if I knew what cynogen mod looked like I would think it might be fishy, as the nook boot screen is all white.
I'm really not sure what to do. I suppose I could break it more so the screen is completely incomprehensible, but id really rather just unroot it, I'm just really not sure how to navigate clockwork without a screen
see if you can adb into it when its booted... if you can then there are options to install stock back.... let me know if you can adb... i'll give you links to images to dd back to eMMC.
Ok, after a good googling and an hour of tinkering with device manager got the usb drivers working and adb can see my nook color. What exactly did you have in mind to test the functionality of adb? should i try pushing files or something?

You can download 7zipped images of /dev/block/mmcblk1,4,5,6,7 and 8 from my depositfiles...
There is a md5mmcblk_md5's.txt to verify the downloads against.
There is also a partitions.txt files that describes how to image them to your device... the commands are available for you to copy and paste into a command window or terminal screen. It might work as a dos batch file if renamed .cmd... but I don't recall if the commands will run in the adb shell when executed that way.
extract them with 7zip or winrar... copy the .img files to the root of sd card... preferably one and 8 GB or larger... so you can put them all on at once... perform the commands you will find in the partitions.txt file.
Ok so,
not to be ungrateful, but is there anyway you could put these up on maybe mediafire or some other service where there isnt a free download limit? I'd really like to avoid paying 12 bucks just to get six files in under a day (it's probably just going to shut me out after a couple anyway)
If you can see the display well enough to see when it starts to boot up.......then you can always do the 8 interruped boots. This will take it back all the way back to 1.0.1 stock.

Will setup account and upload to mediafire for you...
EDIT: I have to create a pro account to upload the files... since free mediafire has 200 MB size limit... and 8 of the partition files are MUCH larger than that.
EDIT2: Uploading to mediafire now... You will see the .7z files and files named mmcblk0p5-8.partX.rar... after you have all the rar's... they will extract to the .7z files for each partition... sorry... was just easier for me to split the .7z's I already created this way.

That may or may not work... depending on recovery.img on the eMMC...depending on the condition of /dev/block/mmcblk0p3... these are a couple of reasons I made the recovery files available.
Just a Tip for DizzyDen:
I recommend a site called FileTrip for future uploads. It's owned by the guys that run GBATemp. For Personal Uploads you get 100gb of Storage and 4gb per file, all for Free!, No Upload Limits, No Download Limits, very few Ads(no Annoying ones), Viewing of Documents Online, Streaming of Web Browser(HTML5) compatible Media files, and more. Only Con I find with it is that You can't resume Uploads and it lacks Batch Uploading(Although you can open Multiple Tabs of the Uploader) but nothing that would annoy Downloaders.
@DizzyDan
you are a boss man. Thank you so much for throwing these on mediafire, and the fact that you split them up actually means that with my weak wifi signal i can still dl the whole thing without having to constantly start over.
you're a cool guy man :cyclops:

[APP][WINDOWS]ZOE Repair Tool

So maybe it's just me, but I've been taken off guard by the wipe features on the HTC One clearing /sdcard along with the usual user data a few times. It's a bit of a struggle to find your "happy place" after remembering a couple minutes too late that the bootloader unlock actually erases the media storage too...so much for that nandroid backup you made just in case
Luckily, these phones come with all sorts of backup options right out of the box - but these (DropBox image backup specifically) have a few "quirks" that don't really work in our favor. One that especially ground my gears was the fact that dropbox doesn't play nice with the ZOE's filename-based groupings. So now those 12 ZOE shots you had now show up as 252 individual files. Neat.
So, since I'm overall a very lazy person it's safe to assume I had little to no interest in manually renaming each and every one of these files to make my Zoe collections work again. Ain't nobody got time for that. That's exactly what I made this tool to do for me, because hastily writing a few lines of code sounded way more appealing than fixing all those files just hitting the delete key.
Now, I can't reiterate enough that I'm really lazy. That being said, this tool is poorly written. I even decided that it was easier to simply disable the ability to minimize it rather than bother messing with a crash bug related to that option. Don't worry though, there's still plenty of ways to make this program crash horribly.
So without further ado: I made a thingy, and I'm sharing this thingy that I made with you. In case you're stupid about backing up your media storage, like me.
DISCLAIMER: I AM AN AWFUL PROGRAMMER AND I PUT VERY LITTLE TIME OR EFFORT INTO THIS. I ALSO MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE COAUTHORED THIS WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A BOTTLE OF VODKA. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, MAKE BACKUPS, AND GENERALLY JUST BE READY FOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THIS APPLICATION MAY OR MAY NOT DO.
Using this app is pretty simple.
1) Copy your defiled Zoe images to a new folder (I can't promise you that this thing won't screw up, so make sure to work with COPIES of the files!). I didn't trust this with my original backups and neither should you!
2) Open the application and choose the directory that you copied the files to.
3) All the JPG files in that folder will be listed in the upper list, these may or may not be in correct order because the backup function doesn't even name them in a way that always sorts correctly. Focus on one Zoe at a time and use the arrows to put the files from that set in the correct order.
4) Use Ctrl/Shift+Click to select all 20 images from that Zoe's set.
5) Once you've selected 20, the app will try to guess which MP4 file to choose in the box below. This feature is super basic, make sure to double check that it has selected the correct file, correct this selection as necessary.
6) Look in your phone's /DCIM/100media folder to see how high the file numbering goes for the images on your phone. There's a box on the application bottom-right to fill in a number. Type in a number that is NOT already associated with another image on your phone.
7) If everything is selected correctly, the "Rebuild my ZOE" button should become usable. Click it. It should (hopefully) tell you that it has finished working on the selected files.
8) Move the newly renamed IMAGXXXX_ZOEXXX files back onto your phone's internal storage.
9) Rinse and repeat until all your files are renamed appropriately to be recognized as ZOEs.
PS - This application was was written in VB2012 using the .net framework 4.5, if you get errors starting it, make sure you have this framework installed. Source code is available upon request if anyone actually wants to put time into making this suck less, but for me it's "good enough".
Looks very handy.. Thanks

Sorry... That little section made me choke! lol You're a funny guy. I can see this being a useful tool though.
Finding this made my day. Thanks man.
Thanks for this, huge time saver! The little preview is a plus to help weed out any accidental inclusions.
I'm glad you guys found this useful
I'm twice as glad that HTC changed the way the Zoes are saved in the new software release :good:

How to change picture of lockscreen?

ROM 5.1.1I removed ads of lockscreen without root. Now i want to customize picture of screensaver. Can you help me? Pls!
You will need root. The non-ad lock screen images are contained in /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk in its res/raw-hdpi-v4 folder.
Now, somebody please prove me wrong. There must be an easier way than unzipping the apk, replacing the files with others of same name and size, rezipping, and replacing the apk. Maybe a lock screen app?
Wondered this too gonna make the switch to a room soon since I don't use stock video players anyway

Thanks you very much.
And i removed ads on lockscreen last night but today, it come back :v. Rom 5.1.1 seem unstable
I had the same experience, as have others. I can't remember if I found a solution or not before I rooted, but ever since I rooted I haven't seen the ads come back. You might get away with temporarily rooting, killing the ads, and then not making root permanent if you don't want it.
Try the SuperTool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool-root-t3272695
I've just had a look at the latest version's code and it looks like it automatically does the temp-root thing as part of its 5.1.1 ad removal.
Also note that using something like link2sd or Titanium Backup to disable the app "Special Offers" will stop it, but it's not clear to me if root is required...I would assume so.
So, before I put all that together I went looking through my bookmarks to try to find out if there was a more permanent way to remove the ads without root and instead I found this more detailed post about changing the wallpapers (for a different Amazon device):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898198
You'll notice that it says a different .apk filename than I did; that's because of the different device. Procedure should be the same for us but I haven't tried it. Anyway, the second post says something that's very relevant for me: If you merely delete all the wallpapers you get a plain black background. I like a plain black background, and that's a lot less mucking about than replacing files and making sure their permissions are correct. I might try it and see if it works on the KFFOWI.
